Hey, I went to the EVO 3D page on HTC's website and was looking around at some How-To's. There was something very interesting under the camera link. It said that there are supposed to be advanced camera settings called "scenes" for action shots, low lighting shots, burst mode, etc. I am assuming this is the camera app that I had on my EVO 4G from one of the Kingdom Ports with the EVO 3D camera. It had things like panoramic shooting, etc.
Why don't we have that on our official EVO 3D cameras? I wanted to check on XDA and see if this was just a bug on my phone or if everybody was missing an sweet camera setting that we should have.
Below is the link for the HTC page that I am talking about. Click the How-To on the Camera and read a few.
http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo3d-sprint/help/camera
I see settings under menu and also from the magic wand icon on the left. No advanced like you mentioned nor scenes. Did you take OTA updates? I have not
...adjusting to life without the trackball
I did both updates and there are no such options
look at the picture of that Evo3D on the link..Where the hell is my Transparent Rosie? Mine is solid
I dont know what the hell is going on..Its almost like they changed camera software at the last minute..Seems like these scenes disappeared with the 1080p recording at the same time..Must have been another Typo but i think this is grounds for False advertising

Are you 100% sure? My friend didn't do the update and his is solid too

I also did not update, and my rosie is not nor ever has been transparent. None of the available skins provide a transparent rosie either. No transparency to be found. Slightly annoying that a few minor things have changed.

when I hit my wand it says effects distortion,Vignette, dots, dept of field, vintage etc.. Is this what u guys are talking about or is it something else?
I'll guess some web programmer simply copied that page of info from another phone's info.
Yeah, this is a little more than a typo. These are links and how to's about what our phone is supposed to do. Kind of annoying that a phone called the "Shooter" (camera reference) has a downgraded camera app then a phone that came out a few weeks before it. (The Sensation)

HTC has the poorest camera/video smartphone features in the industry.
I communicated with them last August about my dissapointment with my Evo 4G camera with (self-made) charts showing them (what they already knew undoubtedly) comparative smartphone features between Nokia, SonyEriccson, IPhone and Samsung.
They definitively replied (last August) that they knew this and had 'numerous options on the table to address it'.
We of course saw nothing materialize on our 3D...(although the MyTouch Slider will see the first HTC camera upgrade in a month).
So for those that really value even status quo smartphone camera quality, the only options at this point are to move to Samsung ....or the Nexus Prime this fall.
Sad...Ive been an HTC user for 10 yrs.
I contacted htc about this, and some other camera issues. They said that the "scenes" feature would come out in a future update.
This is definatly false advertising.

Yes, I did the same and they mentioned the camera things like panoramic camera, and transparent rosie shown at CTIA were not included on the production release, and they are looking to include these in a future update. Same with the flashlight app and battery widget.
I contacted HTC and was told I didnt know how to use my phone and they would walk me threw getting to these settings. When I proved that they werent there I was told it was a typo of sorts. When I said I can produce Youtube video footage of an HTC employee showing off these features on the EVO 3D my mail went unanswered.

Has the camera app been ported from the MT4G to work on other MT4G roms?
The stock Cyanogenmod camera is just absolutely terrible.
I know the answer is likely "it has sense bundled in tightly with it" but surely then there's a better camera than what comes stock with CM7?
no facial recognition, no touch to focus, etc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=652796
its been done.
i would love it if it could be done with cm7 with mt4g. This is the ONLY reason i wont use cm7 lol. because i take lots of pics with my phone. the camera app on sense is the best ive used so far.
I just have to agree... The camera and the picture viewer which auto compresses the file from the MT4g is the best!

Dude, did you look at how old that thread is? You was the first person to post in it since Aug. That camera is nothing like the the one on this phone. Thats the old desire camera. I too miss the stock mt4g camera, its better turn than any I've used, and its a little disappointing the vanilla camera hasn't seen any improvement

Yepp. i posted to see if paul still was doing it. The new desire hd/z camera is amazing.. its pretty much exactly the same as the new expresso. I didnt post to see if that camera could be ported. i was also saying it has been ported pretty much.
Enom had it ported in his rom on the n1, he's working on a release for this phone, but last I checked, his g2 rom doesn't have it yet. We'll have to wait till someone gets it

Awesome. this will make me go away from sense and back on CM. thats the only thing keeping me on sense for now ha.
O lord I hope we get this soon.... I miss my good camera... but camera 360 takes awesome pix also
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Camera 360 is good but for some reason it was accountable for 94% battery consumption on my phone. I used it to take 2 pics and backed out of it (back button not home) and it was just EATING my battery for no reason and also put hundreds of random pics in my gallery. I uninstalled it.
i 2nd this i hate the camera that comes with cm!
edit: i also hate the 3d gallery. i wish i knew how to port apps or whatever so this could of been done. or at least give people options to use include the 2 gallerys and cameras. cant complain though ive been using cm since the g1 and mytouch3g good work just wish it had the stock camera and gallery
I miss the sense camera too :[
Maybe we should start collecting for a bounty to the first dev to port it over
That's when ppl donate Money right? If so I won't be able to until I get paid Thursday

Unfortunately due to family issues, Enomther might not be back to deving for awhile :-(
I too hate the stock aosp cam and 3d gallery. And would like to see the mysense camera on CM. But Im using quickpic as a substitute gallery. Its a lot better than the 3d gallery IMO.
I feel the same way as the rest of you...I really need a better camera app and that is the only thing I dislike of CM7...I use my camera a lot and the camera on CM7 is really bad in comparison...
I solve my camera problems with Camera 360
Cm 7 is in bug fixes mode right now as soon as their done getting close to stability as possible. They will enhanced the camera. My g2 on stock to sucky pictures on froyo it took crystal clear pictures. Really the ui for the camera needs a major overhaul with a full view finder but even on the xoom Google doesn't like it.

this was my only gripe with cm7 the freagin camera...
Yeah only thing I miss from sense rom is the camera, and friendstream (better fb sync than stock fb app) :\ oh and some of the widgets lol.
Stock camera. Friendstream. All of that is reliant on sense framework. Aka they will never work on aosp roms.
If you want sense stuff and the aosp feel just change your launcher and remove the bloat.

it doesnt scale properly in portrait, its aligned to the left and so there is a huge gap on the right side
i have been waiting for this to be fixed since i went 3d...used it on my hero and 4g. the only one i really really like.
The current HTC keyboard with it's tracing feature is way nicer than the old HTC IME mod kb. Besides that, Smark Keyboard Pro is better than HTC IME mod too.

This would be amazing on our phones! I too am more excited about this mod than any other. I use my camera a lot!
If it corrects for the pops and squeaks during video recording, then that would be icing on the cake. True 30fps recording would great too. I've had pretty severe frame-rate drops during recording.
I went ahead and installed the program and it appears to work. I get larger JPG images and 1080 video at higher bitrates. A few things though. The icons at the bottom are physically lower on the screen so the text on the bottom gets cut off. The button to the gallery doesn't work from video mode but appears ok from camera mode. The effects appear to work too. This is just my preliminary findings.
I'm on CleanRom 4.1 without any of the mods.
Edit: xsnapshot, I haven't noticed the pops and squeaks since the radio update in January. I didn't notice any on the test video I took, but it was only for 10 secs so I'm not sure. I'll take a longer video later and see if I can hear the pops and squeaks.
Edit2: Not sure why you linked to an Engadget post when the original post is in XDA. Here it is so you can get the app. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1533238
I installed this yesterday and haven't had any issues with it. I have not used my Rezound camera enough to really notice a difference. I guess I should have taken a before and after pick to see if the file size changed much.
I didn't flash it. Opened the zip up and pushed each item to my phone.
I did take a picture of some clouds yesterday evening. File size was 2.62MB
Installed this tonight, my photo file sizes are huge now, though I've not seen a huge difference in 1080p video quality. I'll do some outdoor testing tomorrow, to see if there is a difference.
I'll try to post some results if I get around to it
Sent from the Speed Demon known as the Rezound
Out of curiosity... can this be undone
if you reflash a rom without it, yeah lol...
this doesn't do anything for video, btw guys..in joels rom it didn't, anyway. still recorded at around 8mbps, wouldn't ever hit above that to get even near 20...photo's seemed to work uncompressed though; they're bigger in size
I'm loving this bad boy so far. The size is absolutely perfect and fits in my hand like a glove.
Physical/ Build Quality
It actually looks and feels more like the OG Inc then the Inc2. Slightly narrower then the Inc2 but a tad longer and has the same red highlighted speaker above the screen as the OG Inc. It also feels lighter then the Inc2 and, it feels more solid than any HTC to date. The back battery cover doesn't make that annoying squeak and fits tightly . :good:
Camera
Although this doesn't have the same imaging software as the ONE series, it takes pictures amazingly fast. Click, click, click -one right after another.
Beats Audio
Gimmick or not, Music sounds noticeably better on this device than on the Inc2. I'm playing the same FLAC HD files off the same SD card.
Cons
Looks like they did away with the FriendStream widget ?! There's a Twitter HTC widget but no HTC widget for Facebook. Only the totally lame FaceBook widget that comes with the FaceBook app. I like having the Twitter and Facebook feeds combined in the FriendStream widget. Bummer . . .
Price
I paid $106.99 (including tax) for the device as a "Buddy Upgrade" on my company's business account. They applied the $50 rebate directly to the purchase.
I haven't gotten one yet but I'm pissed that, at least according to the website, the phone isn't global ready. WTF?? The DINC 2 was global ready right? And this chip supposedly has GSM capabilities built in. So why not make it global ready from day one?
Verizon is getting on my last nerve...first they pass on the One series and put out this phone with inferior specs, then they jerk everyone around waiting for the release so they can screw us on the plan, then they don't make it global ready when the hardware clearly supports it. I don't get it. I'm going the europe next month and was looking forward to using the phone over there.
Verzion already has said they will send out a software update to make it globally complient in very near future. It has the hardware to support it inside of it.
Yeah, I didn't buy one either for the above reason. They told me in the store today it wasn't gsm capable at the moment.

LOL...with Verizon the very near future could be a year from now.
And by the way, is it just a coincidence that they send out this OTA to the original DINC that is throwing everyone's phone into a constant reboot loop a week before the new DINC 4G comes out? The timing is a little suspicious. I get the stupid notification like every half hour, hoping the thing will eventually just go away.

Was a longtime user of several phones, including Dinc2, and Rezound.
Picked up the 4g lte today, and I gotta say from the limited time I have with it, I am enjoying it. The biggest plus so far is the nice sharp screen. In fact, I like it more than the rezound's 720 p screen because this one is NOT scaled, so everything looks nice and crisp, and the fonts aren't too big.
Sense 4 on this phone seems pretty snappy and smooth, minimal if any lag on certain scrolls, but they are rare. Haven't made phone calls yet. 4g (here in LA county) is variable in terms of speed... from 300 KB/sec to 1.1 MB/sec. I think that is maybe more related to network congestion.
Form factor of the phone is basically the same as the Dinc2, which is a good thing, but I find this one to be easier to hold in my hands, with softer edges. Also, buttons are easier to press than the Dinc2, which is a plus. Battery door easy to open, and doesn't have flex/creaking. Another nice feature is that the SIM tray and SD card tray are both on the side of the phone, so you don't have to remove the battery to access anything, only the back cover.
All in all, I am pleased so far. Hope to continue the enjoyment, and hopefully will see some nice interest in this phone. Only question remaining is whether the bootloader will be unlocked (either by HTCdev, or otherwise). Honestly, though, Sense 4 on this phone is pretty snappy and quick, so I can overlook this even if we don't get AOSP. But nothing wrong with more options, of course, thanks to any and all devs who know how to cook roms, because I sure don't know how to.
Thanks for reading!

I understand that you initial posters have your shiny, new phone that you paid for, so please don't flame me for offering what the OP suggested, ie: initial thoughts.
I used the phone briefly in the Verizon store today. I have lots of experience with Sense, having used and rooted both a Droid Incredible and an HTC Rezound. That said, I should state that my bias leans toward Senseless and ASOP roms.
Compared to my Rezound running ConRom, I found the Incredible 4G on Sense 4 to be laggy when it came to screen transitions, ie: opening/closing the market, updating apps, transitioning between Sense home screens, etc. I'm not one of those "The Rezound is the best Android phone out" guys either. I was honestly hoping that this phone would be a significant upgrade over the Rezound. If I still had the ability to keep unlimited data and burn my existing upgrade, my choice would still be either the Rezound or the Galaxy Nexus.
I am envious of the Incredible 4G due to it's form-factor. It's feels great in the hand, light but not too light, and has the same nice rubberized-texture that the Inc 2 and Rezound have.

I wasn't running ComRom on my Rezound but so far my experience has been the exact opposite. The Incdreble 4G has had no lag like the Rezound does. Plus, Sense 4 runs circles around the Rezounds version of Sense.
Besides, It's hardly a fair comparison to pit a custom ROM against stock anything.

Global mode is something different. What I am talking about is buying a prepaid sim overseas or using it with t-mobile/att&t. The command doesn't work because Verizon disabled it but if you download the Thunderbolt LTE on/off app in the play store you can change it to GSM only. The options are there so the phone is capable like everyone said. I just got back from receiving the phone and the app works in switching to 3G. The sim for this phone is now a micro-sim so for someone to test they would need to trim a regular sim and put it in. This settings works for voice only. To send SMS and MMS, we need a dev to fix the ROM. That's how they did it with the Rezound. Or we wait for Verizon to enable all the functionality.
So far I am liking the phone. It's more like the original incredible than the incredible 2.
Hi all, I read the notice from sprint about the new features and here are some that I dont see on my phone, yet where there in the sprint notification
- Panoramic Mode for camera
- Notice that some of the "frames" for editing photos do not work, like wood boarder
and I remember that ICS was supposed to have high resolution caller id, but I still get the low resolution caller id.
Any insite on this?
Thanks
