Hey, I went to the EVO 3D page on HTC's website and was looking around at some How-To's. There was something very interesting under the camera link. It said that there are supposed to be advanced camera settings called "scenes" for action shots, low lighting shots, burst mode, etc. I am assuming this is the camera app that I had on my EVO 4G from one of the Kingdom Ports with the EVO 3D camera. It had things like panoramic shooting, etc.
Why don't we have that on our official EVO 3D cameras? I wanted to check on XDA and see if this was just a bug on my phone or if everybody was missing an sweet camera setting that we should have.

I see settings under menu and also from the magic wand icon on the left. No advanced like you mentioned nor scenes. Did you take OTA updates? I have not

I dont know what the hell is going on..Its almost like they changed camera software at the last minute..Seems like these scenes disappeared with the 1080p recording at the same time..Must have been another Typo but i think this is grounds for False advertising

My Rosie was transparent until I did the OTA updates and now its solid. I guess it broke it.
Are you 100% sure? My friend didn't do the update and his is solid too

I also did not update, and my rosie is not nor ever has been transparent. None of the available skins provide a transparent rosie either. No transparency to be found. Slightly annoying that a few minor things have changed.

Yeah, this is a little more than a typo. These are links and how to's about what our phone is supposed to do. Kind of annoying that a phone called the "Shooter" (camera reference) has a downgraded camera app then a phone that came out a few weeks before it. (The Sensation)

HTC has the poorest camera/video smartphone features in the industry.
I communicated with them last August about my dissapointment with my Evo 4G camera with (self-made) charts showing them (what they already knew undoubtedly) comparative smartphone features between Nokia, SonyEriccson, IPhone and Samsung.
They definitively replied (last August) that they knew this and had 'numerous options on the table to address it'.
We of course saw nothing materialize on our 3D...(although the MyTouch Slider will see the first HTC camera upgrade in a month).
So for those that really value even status quo smartphone camera quality, the only options at this point are to move to Samsung ....or the Nexus Prime this fall.
Sad...Ive been an HTC user for 10 yrs.

This is definatly false advertising.

Yes, I did the same and they mentioned the camera things like panoramic camera, and transparent rosie shown at CTIA were not included on the production release, and they are looking to include these in a future update. Same with the flashlight app and battery widget.
I contacted HTC and was told I didnt know how to use my phone and they would walk me threw getting to these settings. When I proved that they werent there I was told it was a typo of sorts. When I said I can produce Youtube video footage of an HTC employee showing off these features on the EVO 3D my mail went unanswered.
Is there a rom or mod out there that allows your homescreens to render in 3D at all times? he said someone at bestbuy showed him a 3vo with a fully rendered 3D homescreens... i dont believe him lol
That doesn't exist on the evo, can't you move the phone and the home screen will move with the sensor?

i know right??? i dont think he knew what he was talking about myself, but theoretically the screen can render a pic in 3d and switch straight to 2d and then back to 3d, so in theory the homescreen should be able to be rendered in 3d its just changing the second barrier screen isnt it? idk i think the kids crazy lol

there are ROMS available that offer a 3d homescreen. he is not lying. now that we have full root the sky is the limit.

which ones? ive seen a few that say they added "3d" settings in display but Viper doesnt have it listed...
does it just use the toggle switch? how does it work in portrait mode? sense does not work in landscape.

This option does not make the screen render in 3D, it simply adds a "tilt" effect when you turn your phone left or right, it just skews the look of the icons to give it a generic 3D effect while still rendering in 2D, not the actual display mode change to 3D.
i usually use launcherpro and it does horiz. home screen.... i would LOVE to play with a 3d ui that can be controlled with the switch!!!!!

SPB Shell 3D ($14.95 on Market) renders the homescreen in 3D [experimental at the moment]. I haven't yet tried it, as I have used SPB on both Windows Mobile and Android [EVO 4G] and I can't say I liked it all that much.

right, its pointless and just wasted battery
Not sure if this should be posted here, but considering it needs some development, and it is in the GSM dev forums, I figured it should go here.
Anyway, a couple of days ago I installed V2 and it worked pretty good, but had a few force closes. At that time there was .apk's to install. Now theyre up to V4, and its a flashable zip that doesnt appear to work on our devices. When flashed through recovery, the flash fails at the Model_id check. Not sure if someone here can fix this so its flashable on our phones? seems like a pretty cool camera.

Here, try this. I swapped out the model with our version of the Evo3D. I haven't flashed it, but you can test.

Thanks for fixing! I tried flashing your modified version, it flashed fine,but unfortunately it wiped my device and didnt install the new camera. Also broke the lock screen. No biggie, I got a nandroid backup, so all good! Hopefully sac23 will put up the version he tweaked....

That's what I get for not reading it all the way through, sorry about that. It was supposed to format cache, but the block devices are different so it formatted system. I'll update it and take that one down.
Edit: Fixed, it won't nuke your system now. Not sure if those libs that are included are going to work or not. YMMV.

My guess is those libs are compiled against the kernel for the GSM version and won't work. But...then again they might. Good luck, sir!
So the only thing that doesn't seem to be working is 3d pics. It takes the picture, but then immediately crashes to the desktop. Along with the issues already posted in the GSM section. So far those libs dont seem to be causing any issues. But then again its 5am, haven't really had a chance to really use anything but the camera.

I think the amaze is a 3d camera. You can actually preview the 3d perfectly. Just when you take a pic, it freezes for a few secs and then crashes.

Can anyone report on shutter lag? Only thing I find unusable about the Evo 3D camera: shutter lag is at best (with fastest settings, preview off, etc.) 0.5 seconds.

From the GSM forum......it seems we need updated kernel with ZERO SHUTTER LAG driver included. So, if HTC doesn't give even kernel src for us we have only choice to wait for new STOCK kernel with ZSL driver.
ZSL means fast speed than galaxy s 2 camera?

Yes, the. zip in the 2nd post flashes, and works pretty good, except the camera crashes when taking 3d pics. 2d works great.
Any way to use this without root? And can you install as a separate app? That would be cool.

Doesnt the MyTouch 4g slide use the same camera? that released right around the time of the E3D too. anyone know if that source got released?
I cant get hdr to work (it takes pic but no different than any other pic), burst wont select, and there were a couple others that didnt work. In 3d mode, in addition to crashing, it doesnt adjust the exposure and alignment is way off so i dont think the amaze has the 3d software programmed.

Searched the forums for this and found a bit of discussion, but not a fix.
I know some people are using swiftkey x and not having display problems, but for me it's borked, no matter what i do. I've tried clearing app data, removing and reinstalling etc - nothing seems to work. Settings pages occupy about 2/3 of the screen real estate, centered horizontally and stuck to the top of the screen vertically, and when the keyboard is in use, it takes up 80% of the screen but mostly with black empty space. For this latter reason, it's pretty much unusable.
My carrier is Orange UK, but my handset is a retail/SIM unlocked stock ROM. It is up to date with OTA updates.
Is there a fix for this? Or am i screwed?

must agree, no problems at all........
I'm using the betas and havent seen such a problem, be it on stock, cm7 or customized blur roms. Maybe try spare parts and disable that legacy app fix.

No worries The market just like you. In fact i've been a SwiftKey customer for a long long time. My old SwiftKey licence seemed to transfer over to SwiftKey X when it was formally released. I did have the X beta, and at first it was fine, then after one particular update it started with this screen problem, and has been that way ever since, even after the official first release.

This sounds hopeful! I haven't heard of spare parts but im assuming its some sort of tweaking program? I can use it to disable some sort of legacy fix for older, none qHD apps? is that right?
EDIT: I installed spare parts but just have the following options on a settings-style screen:
battery history
battery information
usage stats
window anims
transition anims
fancy input anims
fancy rotation anim
end button behavior
haptic feedback
compatibility mode
wifi sleep policy
activity/process management
brightness mode
font size
show compass in maps
Only one which looks promising is compatibility mode?

Is there any hope i can exchange it for a [refurbished] galaxy siii instead of them replacing it with another evo lte? how would i even go about asking them for this in a way they might be receptive to?

Just ask, tell them that your not happy with your phone and could they just replace it with the s3. The worse that can happen is they tell you no.

If you return the handset within 7 days, you can swap it out for another handset. Did you purchase insurance for the LTEVO? Also, call your local Sprint store, and ask what their policies are. HTH!

no, I was an evo banned-embargo waiting pre order. at the time, everyone was still saying how amazingly awesome the one-x line was and that the siii was gonna be "just an sii updated with the newest chips," and after playing with everyone's giii's, and the horrible software on this evo, I'm desperate to make the switch. I'm so sad too, as I've always been htc over Samsung's stuff, til this generation. that siii is a bad boy!
I know they will replace my evo for me, but I'd so rather find a way to switch instead of a new updated-and-boot-locked evo. I just don't want to go try, have them say no and note my account, then if I find a way to switch before my 2 years,I can't because my account already shows I was trying to switch before.
try craigslist... Im switching mine tomorrow for a gs3.. Some people still love the EvoLTE and hate the gs3.. So you might get lucky like I did..
If your are outside of the 14 days you have to return the device you cannot exchange it.

If I wanted to be honest, about the best you could do is call Sprint Retentions and say the phone hasnt lived up to expectations for you
I do somewhat know how to program it,a lot from what's on xda here... did the button re mapping, the wifi fix, rooted.. but what else do you guys mean to program it so I can use it more pleasantly? cm10 isn't done yet, at least not without working camera. the htc camera/imaging isn't extracted yet. I haven't found a fix for the non-working-right multitasking on this thing, and I've recently had the sense take forever to re start whenever I press home! if someone can point me to a complete aosp rom or fixes how to unleash the awesome sauce, PLEASE let me know! I see a lot coming on the future but when?
plus, like I said, still need the screen fixed... and I know I'll get one with the ota update and have to USSR the htc boot loader thing... I'd prefer not to.

CM10 has a working camera. No, it isn't ImageSense, but neither was your OG EVO you're longing for. CM10 is incredible for its age, and rapidly improving. It has working LTE now! This thing is only missing a few small things, and is already daily driver material. Or...
Run Viper4G man, it is incredible. Smooth as CM10 with amazing tweaks. Or the SuperLTE base collaboration project thingy. Or MeanROM. Or Stock with Goodies. Overclocking using EvilZ or Enoch does wonders for smoothness. We have Google Now working on ICS. I mean really, what does the S3 have that beats out the aforementioned?

I will read up on those roms. I know the few I was aware of weren't done yet, I know cm has nightlies, but nothing has been released final without bugs yet. a lot are like that, with something not done yet.
its not that the siii has stuff I don't have on the evo, its that it just works smoothly and I haven't seen the little bugs. and the multi tasking actually seems to work well.
I got a nexus 7 a couple weeks ago, and I think it spoiled me. ever since I got it, the little issues I had with the evo have become almost unacceptable!!

Viper4G is done in my opinion. Everything works wonderfully for most users. They did some heavy testing before releasing to work out the kinks. MeanROM and many more are as stable as it gets. CM10 is the only one with real multi-tasking, but as I said, the thing really only lacks video at this point, which I can live with.
And come on... If you had a Nexus, this phone has many things that will spoil you if you go back to your Nexus. Screen resolution and clarity, screen size, camera quality, kickstand, etc.

Currently the only phone on the replacement list is the EVO, so swapping in store is going to be unlikely. Retentions might be able to help you.
For further clarification after purchase one has 14 days to return a device or exchange it. Echangung a device carries a $35 restock unless the device is defective...not 7, not 30. 14 days.be Leary of stores willing to swap or return a device beyond that. ETFs will be charged/upgrades lost and the store will be unable to reverse

Hey rom that has really spoiled me lately is tranquility from bad seed, if that won't make you happy I'm afraid nothing will. As far as your screen goes insurance should take care of that.
