I am sorry if this is covered somewhere, I've honestly looked and can't find up to date info on this.
I currently have a Vibrant flashed with CM7.
Right now,
i can't even flash other ROMs for some reason, as they all come up with some sort of compatibility issue when trying to flash the .zip. I think it has something to do with recovery 4.0 being used. it won't let me flash 3.0 (which is pretty silly).
Anyway, I'd like to go back to the latest stock ROM. How exactly should I go about doing this, once I am already on CM7?
power off phone
pull out battery
GRAB THIS STUFF : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
How about just flashing another ROM? Downloaded two 2.2 ROMS and neither of them seemed to flash, complained about some sort of error with the format of the zip file. Didn't make a whole lot of sense...
I am on CM7.
Basically, I am just looking to flash (while already on CM7) a relatively stable ROM that has support for wifi calling. Any suggestions in that area would be much appreciated.
Coming from CM7 you will have to go back to stock if you want to flash a pre-Ginger rom. No way around it. Just follow the guide movieaddict posted and it will get you there.
I recommend Bi-Winning, Project-V, or ZenDroid. But there are plenty of good choices. Good luck.

CM7 uses MTD/yaffs2 file system which is different from stock Samsung roms. If you don't want to soft brick your phone, I would suggest using the link @movieaddict posted. I know Odin sucks
I must be dense or something, haven't been messing with android devices for a while now, but these directions aren't making a lot of sense to me at all. Didn't know what to do once I had Odin up to be honest. Seems really really complex.
I just need a working stable ROM (could be 2.3 or whatever) with wifi-calling. Will pay someone honestly if they can give me the steps to get there.
did u odin back to stock? or are u having trouble going back to stock? or are u having trouble working ur phone after going to stock??? wht are u having trouble understanding??
I put the phone into download mode and opened odin.exe. From there, I have no clue what to do.
i.e. on the attached screen, what do I do here to get back to a stock ROM?
ok heres wht u do! go to this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
now do not extract the pit and tar file, just download them and put them on ur desktop.
now click on pit ON ODIN and u find ur pit fle on ur desktop
Now click on pda ON ODIN and u find ur pda file on ur desktop
Now both of these should be showing these files next to them on odin
now after both the files are in there places under pda and pit
now if ur in download mode and ur phone is hooked up to a usb cable to pc and the files are in there places on odin the top left hand corner box shuld be yellow, The big white box above re-repartition should be yellow.
Now if allthat is correct press start!
just let it go through the process and it will reboot and u will be back to stock.
Just let it sit for like 15 min and will be done, just leave it alone.
ITS REALLY EASY!
NOW IF MY INSTRUCTIONS DONT HELP U! FOLLOW HIS INSTRUCTIONS ON THE LINK ABOVE I GAVE U. THERES A TUTORIAL ON THERE ALSO
I think I'm getting somewhere, currently have the process going. It has been about 10 minutes though, and still got the same "Downloading..." screen
Odin says
<ID:0/005> Added!!
<ID:0/005> Odin v.3 engine (ID:5)..
<ID:0/005> File analysis..
<ID:0/005> SetupConnection..
hasn't shown any other messages yet. Do you think everything is fine?
Nope..pull the plug and you should end up with a soft brick...your phone should turn on to a phone-!-computer screen. Odin should still recognize your phone..so try again.
Don't blame me if it doesn't soft brick..

The next time I try this, how do I know that the process is going correctly? Will its how something different on the phone's screen or in Odin?
EDIT: Ok, this time, thinks look a bit better. Have an actual status bar going. Thanks for the tip.
Well it should actually take about 2 minutes so if it finishes in about that time you should be fine.

And it may not even turn on at all. Don't freak out. Pull out the battery for 5-10 seconds and put it back in. Then hold down Volume up+down while plugging in your usb cable. That should get you back into Download Mode with the yellow triangle. Open Odin back up and you should have a yellow box that says COM and a number. Then press the PDA button and choose the stock JFD file, and then click PIT and load the PIT file. Click start and just let it do its thing until it says PASS and your phone reboots.
Also I've attached version 1.85 of Odin which I find to work the best. Good luck.
Edit: Looks like you already got it started up again while I was typing...
Thanks everyone, was able to get back to factory...now to root again and go for a stable 2.2 ROM.
Thanks for the info.

I know I'll be the millionth idiot who asked this question, but I've never come across this before. I am running Bionix 1.9 with Jac's OCUV kernal. I tried flashing a newer kernal to help battery life, but found the phone froze up alot and after playing around with some different settings, I realized I should have just been happy with what I had. Long story short, I tried flashing a stock JI6 kernal and then found myself stuck at the boot screen. I've tried to work with ODIN, but am not very familiar with it, and I think i've just found a new brick for the front of the house. I tried running ODIN and now there is a logo of a computer and a phone with a yellow triangle in between. I've tried to boot into download mode, but it just flashes once and then back to the phone and computer logo. I am seriously scared I bricked this thing and I just wish I'd left things alone. I have read various forums and most of what it sounds like I need to do is over my head. Sure I shouldn't have done this, but it really didn't sound too difficult and I've done similar things before....any help would be greatly appreciated. I wonder if there is anyone on the forums in the Syracuse or central New York region who might be able to help in person if possible. HEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPP!!!!
This is fixable. I've had this issue and fixed it before. It requires odin though. Odin interacts with the phone through download mode, so if you aren't in download mode while you are ODINing, it won't work. How are you trying to get into download mode? I usually plug it into USB as I'm holding both the volume buttons and it always works for me. Once you get it into download mode its simple, you just need to go to the Vibrant Bible and get the Stock JFD and flash that with repartition checked in Odin.
Follow this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
Also, to get into download mode I:
1. Pull, then re-insert battery (to make sure it is completely off)
2. Hold both volume up and down buttons
3. Plug into computer (while still holding the buttons down)
I'm gonna try this when I get home since alot of download sites are blocked here at work. I just tried your method to get into download mode and it at least I got the yellow triangle with the digging android. So far, so good. My next question really is more procedural. I am wondering where exactly the .pit and .tar files go and exactly what do I do with the drivers I downloaded? I apologize in advance if the thread contains this, but since I'm at work now, I can't really open more than a browser window or else the badnwidth police comiong storming into my office. Thanks in advance and I will post update later. Thanks again for your help so far, you've at least given me hope!!!!
Seems I'm able to get a few files to download. I have looked at the other forum posts, but my question is when I do get stock JFD, in what window of ODIN do I put it in? I am running ODIN3 v1.3. Also, I cannot get my phone to show up in a com window on ODIN either. I am using a USB hub, not sure if that's interfering or not.
Pit file goes in the PIT section, JFD tar file goes in PDA.
I would ditch the USB hub.
Have Odin opened before you put your phone into download mode. When it's in download mode Odin should recognize the phone. It'll recognize the COM port it's plugged into. If it doesn't you don't have the drivers installed properly or there's a problem with the USB connection. Try plugging it into other USB ports. Always remember to close Odin and pull your battery and start fresh if you are attempting to reconnect the phone to the computer.
OK i plugged into the back of the computer and ditched the hub. Got ODIN to recognize the device. Unfortunately I didn't load the .pit file as the first reply didn't mention it (not upset, not complaining, I should have known better). ODIN reads file analysis for over 10 minutes now. Not sure if I should unplug and restart the process with the .pit file or am I going to permanently brick the phone?
edit: unplugged and restarted process. Now the pit file will not come up in the ODIN screen when I search for it with the pit button.......I've tried every download I can, but it doesn't see the file. I've tried to extract it, but nothing happens. What am i doing wrong, beside being over my head?
Download the 512 pit file from here. It's compressed in RAR format so you will need to unRAR it. The pit file should end in .pit
When you click the PIT button in Odin it will allow you to browse to the *.pit file
Ok, now I'm back up to stock and it seems as though everything is working ok. Have a new problem trying to root. Will research and start a new thread if needed.
For the life of me I couldn't get the pit file to populate the ODIN box for the file. In the end I reverted to the original post and just dropped in the JFD. I did not click on repartition and left the pit file blank. Everything came back up fine without the pit file. I am trying to re-root the phone, but when I boot the update.zip file in recovery it says something about e:/sdcard/update.zip not being valid and I have to reboot..but everything comes back fine in stock. I am happy the phone is back, but I would love to re-root it and get back to where it was or maybe flash a 2.2 rom. Thanks again for all of your guys' help. Definitely saved me from being at T-Mo looking at a new phone......
You may have to put the root file back on. I have had to odin hundreds of times and sometimes the file on my cell somehow gets lost. Even of it still says it is there.

Try this update.zip file. It's from one of the early root methods for JFD.

That's because when you install ROM Manager, it replaces the root "Update.zip" with a ClockworkMod "Update.zip". So when Odin back to stock you need to replace the ClockworkMod "Update.zip" with the root "Update.zip".
Thanks again for the help. I am having a hard time even getting into recovery mode. Can't seem to get it right. Is this problem I'm having possibly related the fact that I didn't repartition the sd card? Just wondering. Also an earlier post said that I needed to replace the root update.zip instead of having the clockwork update.zip. How would I go about replacing this file? Getting closer to the end of the road.....
New to android and would appreciate some help.
My galaxy s2 powers on to 'software upgrade failed...' so I am trying to revert to stock rom.
So far I have:
installed kies and double checked drivers (killed all kies stuff from task manager)
downloaded the stock rom from here: [Heimdall][Odin][Stock][Root]UCKH7 Return/Unbrick to Stock (or Root)
entered download mode on phone (hold volume up+down and plug in usb)
launch odin and put rom in pda slot.
Hit start and it stalls at NAND Write Start!!
tried with heimdall but I keep getting an error after uploading kernel. 'Error: failed to confirm end of file transfer sequence'
been trying tons for the past few hours and am finally getting frustrated. Thanks for any help
Info: att galaxy s2
Already tried: redownloading rom file, tried all my usb ports, tried another computer
Have you killed the Kies tray agent from Task Manager before using Odin?
Also make sure that your phone is in USB debugging mode.
yes, forgot to mention killed all kies stuff.
using heimdall command line I can get the process to start, it gets to 'uploading kernel', goes to 100% and then says 'error: failed to confirm end of file transfer sequence'
kinda feels like progress
what exactly is the rom you're flashing to get back to stock?
The kernel is 100% bone stock, the system image is stock except that it is pre-rooted (su binary and Superuser.apk)
I am including the modem in a separate package since that goes in a separate modem slot, and I don't want to reupload a 200+ MB file if I don't have to.
The kernel + rooted system package is here: http://www.multiupload.com/PNQC9KOD4D

I might be colour blind but you might make sure you're trying to flash the right firmware for your phone.

yes i am sure its the right rom as my box shows version I777UCKH7

Yeah don't try and flash the I9100 firmware onto your I777.
The link you gave in your OP I think is where you should be able to get the answers and help you need.
Sorry I know nothing about the I777

Just wanted to post that my problem is solved.
Summary: My AT&T Galaxy SII showed an error on boot (software upgrade failed. connect to kies...). Kies wouldn't even recognize the device so that route was a no go. So as everyone's recommended method of last resort, I decided to flash the device back to stock via odin. I entered download mode (volume up + volume down and plug in usb) and Odin would recognize the device, I would load the stock rom in the PDA slot and hit start and it would begin normally, but it would always fail after a few seconds on 'NAND write start', or 'factoryfs.img'. So I got a 1 click download solution using odin for reverting my phone back to stock. Same thing, it would recognize the phone, but stall out and fail. I also tried flashing clockworkmod via odin but and same problem. People recommended I try heimdall. It would recognize my device, and then fail after 'kernel 100%'.
I tried both programs on 3 different computers, and must have tried 12 different USB slots amongst all of them. I'm fairly handy with this stuff and I worked for hours on it.
xtra info: I had successfully used odin on my computer to flash a kernel just a week ago so I know my stock usb cable was working etc...
Resolution: So I hung my head and drove to the ATT store. After pressing a few buttons on the device and not getting anywhere they sent me to a nearby Device Support Center. I told the girl at the counter that my phone booted to this error screen and that connecting it to Kies did nothing. She asked if it was ok that in the case that she couldn't fix it she would offer me a replacement. I said that was fine and after 10 minutes in the back room she came out with a replacement (free of charge).
Well that was the good news. For the bad news, unfortunately I still don't know how to fix the problem I had, and don't really know how to avoid it in the future. I thought phone's could only get truly bricked if you messed with PIT files and such. There didn't seem to be anything more I could do than flash with odin or heimdall as those were already last resorts. I know I had the right files, the right drivers, and working usb. No matter how crazy I got with my iphone, a full restore was only a click away by plugging in to iTunes. Somehow I messed up my phone so bad that even the device support center couldn't fix it....? Shouldn't have had to be like that.
Thank yous: Thanks to ATT for having a walk-in store and for so easily offering up a replacement. Thanks to the many people on the web who offered remedies.
tl;dr - phone broke, att replaced, still a mystery
well 1st srry for my bad english 2nd i got sgh-t959d and i tryed to install custom rom on it my old rom was 2.2 anyways finally i got the custom rom i want which is 2.3.7 miui but the problem is the internal phone speaker went off i dont i cant hear anyone calling me i have to active the speaker i tryed to bk to the 2.1 ver by odin but same problem any idea plz help
Hello, There is nothing to be worry, My english is not good eather lol
First: You want to Reset Your phone as stock, because right now is just messed up okayyy? and to do that.
You gonna need,
1.) Odin3 [Android+SLP]
2.) PIT.pit [File Name]
3.)PDA.rar [File Name]
Once you do that.
Upload the Pit file, on the Odin Pit file location.
then Upload PDA.rar file on its location in Odin.
Once you do that:
Make sure your phone is off.
Make sure you have USB cable ready to use on the computer.
4.)Take your Phone battery of,
5.)Hold Up and Down Volume Bottons
6.)While holding it, Put the Battery in.
7.)As soon as its in, Connect your USB cable on your phone.
8.)Dont release the Up and down botton, Untill you see a Downloading Screen,
9.)Once thats done, you can release the bottons,
10.)Go on Odin you should see, Something on Yellow, in (ID:COM) If you see it, that means the phone is ready to roll
11.) Just click Start, & Wait untill the phone Resets [

recently tried updating to ics via kies but it failed and phone said to eneter recovery... tried that nothing happened it won't enter recovery mode but will access download mode.
searched for a few days for answers and tried flashing with Odin ... the firmware fails then tried the kernel and this passed but still won't flash.
Used a guide on here and followed all methods and then resorted to flashing the bootloader but this also failed now I'm stuck with 2 counts on the kernel a void warranty and a USB jig that won't reset the counter!
Any help please...I just need the phone up and running ! I've rooted and flashed other phones but tried keeping this standard but kies altered that!
don't say use search button as I've been searching for days now this is last resort before paying out at service centre.
Thanks

yes zacq8 very true buddy
Don't quite understand exactly what you are asking me but I turned Kies off and all running software and run Odin 1.85 the kernel will flash but the phone won't accept any firmwares at all! it fails .
is there any way to get the phone into recovery ? I thought there may be some way using ADB or another way around to enter recovery or restart update !
dont use stock ics firmware, use the gingerbread version
step 1. download your stock firmware from here
step 2. flash using odin
How to flash.
- Open ODIN.
- Select CODE / MODEM / CSC.
- Put phone in download mode. (HOME - VOLUMN DOWN - LOCK)
- Connect phone with cable. Push start (Wait till phone reboot on Android start screen!)
step 3. download old bootloader from here,
then flash it useing odin (phone must be in download mode)
put it in PDA: and then click start
step 4. learn how to make your own jig from here
step 5. once made just shutdown phone and plug it in, wait 8 seconds
that easy

hi zacq8,
thank you for your quick reply, very appreciated.
i just realise my s2 is i9100G, while i flashed with i9100, i think this caused the problem.
i've tried the 1st step you mentioned, but it still displaying the phone---/!\----pc picture. yet i dun know where to get usb jig in my region, do you have any other remedies with this?
sorry, i'm new with the work and the forum, should i create a separate thread or just keep in?
you should get DL mod and to flash a ROM from ODIN, this is the only remidy now as far my knowledge...
I heard the "Phone!PC" also a kind of forced download mod, but (after making 100% sure) keep it for worst and last case if you fail to get DL mod for flashing a stock ROM. (please dont attempt now I am not fully sure)
Where is your location, check somebody near to you is available in these Jig owners, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495867
also it is not a big deal to make a jig, if you now how to solder, can follow this video guide : http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-hacks/how-to-make-a-usb-jig-for-your-galaxy-s2/

wonder if i can charge the battery in this situation? i'm not sure how much it is left from the last time it run.
okay, i'll try to get a jig asap, meanwhile could you please guide step by step how to use the jig and odin for s2 i9100G? does it restore to the original factory ROM or others?
Hey all,
I am in the US I bought this I9300 that won't boot thinking I could simply reflash it and use it/resell it.
It won't boot into custom recovery or the OS. Last night it was stuck on the Samsung screen but I did some reading and found this guide: widefide (dot) com/mobile/galaxy-s3-boot-problem-solution (spam filter)
I was able to use Odin to reflash the PIT that was linked there so now the phone gets to the Firmware/Kies screen.
I have tried flashing any stock ROM (I'm not even sure which 1 I should be flashing) and/or installing CMW and Odin either gets stuck on SetupConnection.. or <ID:0/003> NAND Write Start!!
Is there anything I can do to recover this phone? I'm pretty savvy so as long as the tools exist I anticipate that I can fix this.

Are you sure you've bought an INTERNATIONAL version of the SGS3?
If yes, the flash some latest firmware like XXEMB5.
If it doesn't work, and it doesn't boot up at all, read this report on the SUDDEN DEATH. It could've happened earlier itself.
Else, go to your nearest Samsung Service centre where you could get it done for about $4 (Well, i'm from India and they chagre 200 bucks of this currency to reset a god damn software).

Yeah now it doesn't turn on at all.
Is a USB Jib my only option at this point?
it won't help, probably
Go to this website and make an account. Download the Samsung OEM USB drivers (Check the Win8 help link in my description - There is a dl link for them there - and wait for them to install. While they are installing or afterwards, download the latest firmware you can find (Preferably Europe, because they usually have CSCs for all countries).
Once the drivers have installed and the ROM is downloaded, open up the .tar file and see if there are different .tar files inside. If so, unpack them. If not, leave the archive as it is.
Open up Odin (Making sure it has administrative rights) and then plug in the device in download mode (Odin mode). Once the device is connected and Odin recognizes it, choose from the options below:
Option 1 - You have only one package
In Odin, hit the 'PDA' button and select the downloaded package. Click Start and wait for the process to complete - You're done and the device is useable.
Option 2 - You have more one package
In Odin, select PDA and search for the .tar/.md5 file: "PDA-xxx-xxx.tar/.md5" hit Open.
Select Modem and search for a file called "Phone-xxx-xxx.tar/.ms5"
Select CSC and search for the CSC file (Usually CSC-xxx-xxx.tar/.md5)
Then hit Start and wait for the process to finish - You're done and the dveice is useable.
If you need any help, feel free to PM me and I'll gladly help via Team Viewer when/If I'm home
Hope I could help!

Edit; Reading the other posts; You may as well try the Jig. If that doesn't work (Whereas I hope it will), then go to the SDS thread, like supreethms already noted
