Hi everyone.
I searched it as much as I could but had no luck. Is there a battery cover that hides the camera lens? To put simply, I need a back cover with no holes at all. I need to have a phone without a camera lens and just hiding it would really help me out. I searched everywhere but found nothing. Even here in the accessories session nothing is mentioned.
If anyone finds omething please reply here, I am desperate!

I have never seen such a thing! why you wanna hide it?!?!?!?
i really don't think you will find such a thing!!!
that is what I am afraid of... I need to have a phone that has no camera with me, and I do not want to leave the HD at the house and wonder around with a simple nokia without the camera. I can pass it as a no camera phone if I could be able to find something like that.
I believe I am not the only one with this problem. There are places that security does not allow camera phones. I found a forum of iPhone users that have exactly the same problem, and I thought that if nobody here in the xda-developers knows or has seen something like this, then probably I have no choice but to leave the phone back
Sorry I have no answer for you. My hunch is that it cannot exist as the use of such cover in places where cameras are prohibited would presume that the security there are also a bunch of idiots to not to be able to see that Touch HD has also a front camera. So it would be a very narrow use possibility to make sense for large scale manufacturing...

You are absolutely right....in areas where it is prohibited to use a camera phone you shouldn't do that. But I think there's one possible solution for that: right here
Sorry for that little joke , but I have been to places where it's not allowed and you should respect that, too. If people realize that you've hidden the cam...oh oh ooooh
I see your point Maniac
I got the same here at work. We're not allowed to use or even have a camera phone with us in the development department.
But thats easily solved: We just deposit it in a lockbox before entering that area. So isn't there a possibility to do that?
Or do you need the phone at work? Then there should be an possibility to get an permission or something like that (I got that at work).

Furthermore you could easily take off the back cover and take your pictures without it. So that won't work.
Mate, since my first nokia wirh pixels camera I have just forgot about covering the lens...sony ericsson and its "k" series has lens cover...but it isn't necessary at all...
Well I was just reading a thread about someone buying a Vibrant from someone who "found" it and this person was looking for a way to bypass WaveSecure.
We all know that with a little know how that it is possible with Recovery Mode.
The question I have is there a way to prevent even a Recovery Mode reflash? To absolutely stop someone from touching the ROM at all?
I know the Security Apps out right now can track you from GPS, wipe the phone remotely, etc... But can it stop someone from reflashing a ROM?
If there is a app out there like that please let me know, but if not, what would it take to create such a app.
What are YOUR thoughts??
What if this happens and then you brick for some reason need to reflash and it's locked. I would just bank on the fact that most people think that it's a "Droid" phone and don't know ****.
I was hoping for a question like that.
Either there is a security measure which at some point of using Recovery that it asks for a password or pin. Something that will allow you to access it securely and nobody else.
Yes, it is a droid, very true, but how many droids are out there now, are going to be out there, and with the new laws that allow you to unlock your device and pretty much do anything with it, more and more people are going to start playing around. Not only that, there is always somebody who knows someone, you know.
Personally myself, I would feel secure with having an implementation like this, everything else is pointless.
It's sort of like having a anti virus on your computer but not scanning for rootkits, only viruses.
The idea of that app sounds nice and all that but I seriously doubt that the average Android user would know about flashing ROMs and all that. But if it does get into the hands of somebody that does know how to do it then it can be a problem.

First of all these are android devices / android phones. I was mocking the people who call these phones "droid" phones.
Now on topic: All it takes to break this security is for one person to say, "I forgot my password on for the ==sUPERlOCKER== what do I do to get access?" Then all your worry is for nothing again.
What has been done can always be undone.
Sure, unlike me, I never forget my passwords. Especially for something this serious.
Second, of course something can be undo, but to what extent, after hearing your lack of concern makes me think you don't even have a lock on your phone
Again, would you rather have a password like "1234" that is easily guessed, or would you rather have something like "00LowJK54889$3%#". It's really a matter of personal security.
You sound like one of those people who would have Security Cameras, but never has the DVR on to record anything.
I'm saying your idea is bad. I have illustrated why. You have no counterpoint other than that I am 'relaxed' about my phone security.
How about this, keep your phone in your pocket or hand? 100% security.
This should be in general and not development
Sent from my Vibrant using xda app
This has been discussed a few times, you could compile your own recovery image and program in a password while at it, or you can accept that 90% of theives(or people who would find your phone) cannot get to recovery. If I found a phone then yeah I would go straight to recovery but I'm not your average user.

First, my idea is not bad, give it time, you will see.
Second, I do not have a counterpoint because my main point is stated in the first post. Read again.
Third, I don't care if you are relaxed about your security or not. This post obviously is not for you, another negative person who stunts development if they do not see a logical use for themselves.
I wish you the best and hope that you do not need to ever use such a tool or measure. Take it easy.

On the Vibrant forums? Haven't seen anything yet.
Also, I am not betting on a thief or someone who found the phone to be able to get to recovery, I'm worried about who these people might know. It's surprising to see how many people out here think that they are the only person in a 20 mile radius who knows how to do such mods... Maybe it's just the people I know but I know quite a few people who can easily google and find a way, easily.
I can bet that 90% of people here do not know anything except following directions, no pun intended to those who do. I definitely do not know half of what I should know, but again, is it really that hard?
Your own logic defeats what you are saying here. Don't you understand OP?
If there is a security measure, there will be a work around it? So why have more than ONE thing for the uneducated masses and stop there?
If the person who steals your phone knows someone who could get around WaveSecure, or any other security application. Then that same person can get around ANY AND ALL other types and forms of theft deterrent. If not, they will know someone, ask on forums, etc. UNTIL they gain access.
zaduma
Then why have any security on anything at all?
You my friend make no sense, good day!

Ok, I will lay it out as simply as I can man. I do not want to argue, but you are missing why this is impossible to accomplish.
The existing security layers can be compromised by lets say... 10% of the population, seeing as most people who are thieves do not talk about it, most people dislike thieves.
So effectively 90% of people will be stopped dead in their tracks by having WaveSecure, etc.
The 10% who are not stopped however, can not be stopped by any means. None. They are the people who read these forums, have technical ability, etc.
Therefore having one layer of security means 90% of people are stopped from using your device. But it has ridiculously diminishing returns. With two layers, say stopping access to recovery, 10% are now stopped. Just boot into download mode and flash with odin. Stop download mode? First of all how? Second of all, there has to be a workaround for people who forget their passwords and stuff. And guess what, those 10% will know about that as well.
So please, address these issues and resolve them somehow, and your idea has merit. Without doing so you are wasting your time.
Also, much to your liking I will assume, I will no longer be posting in this thread due to your constant elevation of flaming.
Any security pro will tell you, if you have physical access to a computer, you can make it usable for you. The only real security you can hope for its to prevent access to your data by the thief. That's what full disk encryption and such is about. For our phones, we could achieve this much with a custom kernel perhaps, but how would you enter the password? No keyboard at that level.
The cellular providers can prevent the stolen phone from getting on their networks, and some do, but that's about as far as it goes.
Its like having a lock on your front door.. Its only going to keep out the honest people... Thats what they are made for, honest people, because dishonest people will just kick the door in.. And the good thieves can pick a dead bolt...

I agree, never did I not. This thread wasn't to debate whether a security measure could be hacked or not, the thread was created to see what we could do to implement such a measure.
I am totally aware of that. I know that if there is a will there is a way.
PERSONALLY, that is something I wouldn't mind having. Though some of you disagree and have a right to your own opinion, that is beyond the point. I am trying to see if a) is it possible. and b) what it would take to do so, and possibly c) if anyone was interested in trying or helping out.
So feel free to express your opinion. Mine is that you can never have enough protection cuz I would never bring a knife to a gun fight. But that's just me...
BTW, those who hacked the unhackable phone I would consider being part of the .01%.

If you mean people that know how things work, I suppose. It's the same problem as drm. When you understand why that's not possible, you will understand this. Read up on jtag as well, you can't protect against that. 90% is about as good as it gets.

I can see a few reasons where it would make sense.
0.) Maybe they can't officially. I'm not sure where TF101's nvflash stuff comes from but I could see nVidia making it an issue not to just throw it around willy nilly. Who knows, they could be held liable or risk damaging their contracts with suppliers (like nVidia).
1.) If it could "Undo" the unlocker, well d'uh we're not gonna get it in any legit way.
2.) Maybe they're fed up with enough leaks and general issues that they don't care, after all two new models coming on line soon. And I do expect even if ASUS isn't replacing the Prime, stores will replace it with the new budget model and the Infinity.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
IF unlocking the boot loader was for rooting(which this could be the case IF fastboot was working), they are basically contradicting themselves. They're saying since the boot loader is unlocked we can now root. The way you root when you unlock the boot loader is by changing ro-secure= from 1 to 0 in default.prop in the boot.img(unsecure boot.img), then flash the unsecure boot.img with fastboot. This gives you a root terminal and adb remount to mount system r/w. This is the proper way to do it.
The guy in that email is full of ****, or has no clue what he's talking about. Most likely both
It makes absolutely NO sense for them to cripple fastboot. Nvflash, I can somewhat see in the eyes of some paper pushing pu$$y, but not fastboot.
maybe someone else should try to email... ;/
Hi,
OK, so i finally got my TS yesterday, big surprise, was not expecting it.
Now, please forgive me, I am sure you are sick of users like me, but I don't know where to start.
I wanted to know how to get the play store, so I visited the Omate website > community > that led me here.
I have read many posts in these forums and now I am confused. I have no clue about this stuff and I need some clear clarifications and advice. Please pretend you are explaining to a 5 year old child.
1. I get the impression after reading posts here that the TS with stock everything is very unsafe. I have the non-dev edition. Is this true?
2. If so, I understand I have to install a patch. Is there a clear simple guide how to do this?
3. You then recommend I install a custom ROM.
3a. What do I gain by doing this?
3b. Which ROM do you recommended?
3c. Is there a clear simple guide on how to do this?
4. I also read that the BT is broken! Is this true? Does this mean I will not be able to connect a headset?
5. Icing on the cake, it is not water resistant and I cannot swim with it. How about heavy rainfall? If I am out on my bike, do I need to worry about rain?
Once again, please forgive me, this is way out of my comfort zone, I have never done anything like this before. I just wanted a watch that I could use as a phone and check my emails at times when my normal phone was not an option and "way back when" I had no idea it was going to be such a long, complicated and disaster plagued process.
Thank you in advance for sharing your time, it is appreciated.

My watch is still on custom but I'll try to help you...
As I said I don't have it yet and all I know is from my Android experience on phones.
First, you'll need to root your device
* I'll post a link in a min *
Then find on Google "play store", download and open it.
Download all apps you need...
I would definitely recommend to flash custom ROM or patch developed by Loki.
Go to Omate section on XDA and ready first few threads by Loki, you'll get all when you read that...
Here are the links...
You have all instructions in OP (opening post - first post)

it's only custom ROM that'll work on 2100 version.

I never had a problem with rain with my Motoactv, so I figure this should be fine as well. I've worn it in the rain a few times with no issues. Granted I haven't worn it in the rain with rain pelting on it for like a 45 minute period or anything, but I don't let things like rain or washing my hands get in the way. That being said, I can't say for sure if you could have it exposed to heavy rain while riding your bike for extended periods of time. Rain can come down pretty hard sometimes, and that with the speed that you're traveling at could cause water ingress. I kind of take the safe approach for mine though. It took a long time to get and I do like how it functions, so I really don't want to break it.
Thanks
Thank you both for your swift response.
funky0308 thank you for your guidance, I will walk through your steps and give it a go. So does this mean that it is unsafe at stock and I don't really have an option but to root it? If I want it secure that is.
speedyink, glad to know it can at least handle splashes
Examining and playing with it today, I came to pretty much the conclusion you described, so I am not going to worry too much about it, but I will not take the p*ss.
Thank you both again.

And yeah...you have to install/flash recovery (TWRP) to flash ROM or patch.
Usually that means you have to root it first to flash/install recovery.
You need recovery because you can't flash zip files without it...
Maybe it's different on TS, maybe you can flash only TWRP without rooting device first - I'm not sure...
But TWRP and Loki ROM is something you must have.
Or at least Loki patch and Dees_Troy ROM (for bluetooth tethering)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51455564
After you set everything and flash ROM and patch, check this thread and install (you also have this app on market) best companion app for TS.

Be careful even about exposing the TrueSmart to casual splashes. Many owners have reported their watches died from very light exposure to water, others have had better luck. It seems to depend of how it was assembled. There are several possible points of ingress: speaker grill, antennae ports, buttons, gaskets.
It was never really IP67 tested nor certified anyway.
Some seem to work OK for things like ocean kayaking, but you can't tell until you have tried and then it is likely it will die.
Do not expect a warranty replacement, in any case. It has happened, but don't expect it.

OK, I was planning to follow the steps and root it tonight, however I am not sure I need to.
I have the 2100 1/8 not the 1900, does that mean I do not have the same security flaws?
Here are the details from my TS:
Baseband Version
MOLY.MR8.W1315.MD.WG.MP.V4,2013/08/14 18:16
Kernel Version
3.4.5
Omate Version
OUI 2.1
Custom Build Version
Omate_TrueSmart_20140328.182336_V2.0
Is my TS safe?

You do still have all the security flaws, even with the latest version of the 2100 firmware. They did not correct t ANY of the problems that Lokifish discovered and reported to them with fixes last year. They do not seem to either care or understand, I am not sure which. Probably both. EnSec patch by Lokifish will take care of most of the problems and correctly root the phone, but I cannot help you with selecting the version or installing. You can handle it though, with info available here on xda in other threads.

Really? Wow! This company is starting to sound like a real joke. Lying in their promotional campaigns, ignoring known security flaws and practicing ignorance as a customer service model, I am really starting to wish I didn't bother.
Have they made any attempt to acknowledge Lokifish's discoveries? If so, have they give the xda community (or anyone else for that matter) any indication as to what they plan to do about it?
Yes. They officially support and encourage the installation of Lokifish's EnSec patch.
That involved no effort on their part, so, of course.

Hi guys, figured I'd dive into this thread instead of starting another.
I've also just received my watch, 1/8/2100. I've read through the thread, followed links around in circles to empty repositories and posts that link to yet more posts that I just don't understand, I'm completely lost.
Is there anywhere a simple step by step, download this [link to actual download], run this [name of app], do this [instructions].. Something that doesn't rely on prior knowledge of how to do all this stuff.
Basically I have my expensive paper weight and I'd really prefer not to turn it into an expensive broken paperweight by using the wrong tools :-/
Sorry for being so dense, I just don't get it. Thanks.
No. Your 1/8/2100 may not be compatible with the patch - or anything else here for the TS. I also have a latest batch 1/8/2100 and the firmware is different to previous batches. You can root it but I've held off on patching and ROMing.

Ah.. And seeing any further development has stalled due to lack of source code.. my expensive paperweight will likely remain an expensive paperweight. Isn't that just grand...

Next stupid question. There are about 6 clock faces to choose from, but my admittedly hasty back of a napkin math seems to indicate there should be 26 (one for every $5K above $900K)... Is this another thing that just didn't happen, or is it something we were supposed to get from the o-store or..?
I see in the forum that a root solution had been achieved but the root bounty is still unclaimed because the devs think their solution is too difficult. I do not know enough about this to understand the obstacles. Can anyone give an educated guess as to if or when an easy root solution might arise? I personally like to run a stock/rooted ROM.
My answer = tomorrow
When tomorrow comes, answer = tomorrow
Why do people keep asking for etas? It'll come out when it comes out.... Wait patiently
If you want a rootable phone, get a nexus (or the HTC unlocked bootloader phone)
Root will be released when it's released. Not trying to sound like a douche, but that is honestly the best and only answer that can be given.
The thing about root is this...
-Just because it's been achieved, does not mean it will be shared. There is a lot of time and effort that is put into this type of thing. Not to mention the shear amount of risk that is involved as well. A developer may end up going through several devices while trying to gain root access. This can be VERY costly.
-Then there are the annoyances as well... People consistently asking when it will happen or when it will be released. It's not that these people are intentionally being annoying or trying to be... But when you are one of a few who have accomplished something and then have hundreds if not thousands of people asking for it. It's like having that last slice of pizza, no more is coming, ever, and the entire party is asking you to share it. That one slice isn't gonna feed everyone. (Bad analogy, but whatever)
-The bounty hasn't been claimed for 1 main reason that was mentioned... It's not as dummy proof as it can be. (This of course was ad-libed a bit) ... If I had to speculate, I would guess on 2 other reasons as well... 1, the bounty doesn't meet the cost put in. 2, the flood of private messages to the developers just isn't worth it yet. Again, those last 2 are my own speculation.
I'm sorry for the long post, but it was to offer a bit of insight to others that may stop in here as well.
TL;DR - The devs will release it when they are ready...If they are ever ready. This phone is still BRAND NEW, so let them work out some of the kinks in the process to ensure they don't brick hundreds or thousands of devices... It only take on line of bad code to ruin the whole thing. Be patient.
Hi TAG- I am in no hurry and do not mind waiting. Just want to know that it will be done eventually! Thanks.

I did not ask for an ETA. Initially people were saying there might not be root because of ocked boot loader. Now we kinda have root. As I said I don't know the technicalities of what Id holding it back and therefore do not know how big an problem it is. Just trying to get a handle on the feasibility of it. I have another week to return the phone. Seems like a lot of folks in as a these days just live to criticize and insult. The threads are full of it. Even if you had to object to my post you could have been kinder about it. The purpose of this community is for us to help each other.

as other people have pointed out, these threads are useless...
First I apologize for the errors. I use Swype and auto complete is my worst enema. If you do not understand why I felt insulted you are not thinking very much.
