Why bother to root the 3VO or any phone?
How does Sprint update? If Sprint can update and change "stuff" in the rom like the clock or whatever, or even change the system from 2.2 to 2.3 how do they do it?
Is there some code in the front end of the install, that allows this update without root?
I suggest find this part of any update that Sprint uses; and then just run this section of code on any/every new rom that any developer wants to run...
I remember looking at some old games and programs, and being able to find the lost "code keys" that were actually on the cd's in hidden files.... type those into the program when they started, and bam.... no "key" on the box needed.
Anyway, if Sprint can do it without "root" why bother to root - just find the hidden lines!
This might seem simple, or maybe obsurd, or just outside the "box".... but seriously - what if?
The hell?
Drugs are bad mmkay?
Hmmm. Ok go ahead and get on that

Hmmmm perhaps you don't get it...
i.e. if sprint can 're-rom" our locked phones... why can't we?
Que....?
I goes something like this.
Take the firmware, zip it up, take that zip, encrypt it with a private key. Push this OTA to the device.
The device will read the OTA update, check to see if the decryption key succeeds and then flash the device.
You're confusing headers in unsigned roms with hash checks in encrypted roms.
In simplest forms this is a header
Start>Rom1
You can change Rom1 to Rom2
Start>Rom2
That's a header.
Encryption is a little bit harder.
For simplicity sake let's just say the encryption key was +5 and decryption key was -5.
If your rom contained simply this.
Hello
Your file would be
Mjqqt
Send that to the phone it'll derive that into Hello
Now unless you know the encryption/decryption key how would you know that Mjqqt was Hello? It's not gonna be as simple as -5/+5 or anything like that.
Play with PGP and you'll see that the word Hello could be something like this
390tu904ugriojwG#GvrgerfdojeGO#J)94g39141Hb9ohbrG$#!Tjodsdfobadvscnleojgireig340909g3098409riorgkenR)#dgro0gJ#$)!0rejg!#GJ!!JRGH!#$G9je10ojgreojer1
You make it sound so simple. Too bad these phones are locked with strong modern encryption... The only way to install an update like htc/sprint can is it is signed with the correct private key, which only they have.
Because we don't have the private key to sign the update. There, no more questions on this thread.

Here, let me explain... it's like this. You go to work, but you can't go beyond your department. Sprint/HTC owns the office building, so they go in and out, with their key. You on the other hand, can only go where they let you go. Now if we some how find a little crack in the wall some where, we might be able to get in and then do as we please. We might even be able to change the locks so they can't get in unless we let them.

Have some fun and think outside the BOX!
i.e. both Sprint and HTC have this code and the phones don't need to be unlocked to install a new ROM

I see what the OP is trying to say there is like a master program code that opens the door for the OTA to get pushed through.
I really would rather wait for a good program to come back such as unrevoked 3 and then AMON other then that im sure sprint has hidden there tracks really well because if they didn't this would be known world wide by now
There is no keygen for such a thing . There waiting on HTC to do a update to unlock the phone which should be soon.

ok cool
does every phone have it's specific type of encryption?
I imagine they all have different "code-keys"
But, I wonder if anyone knows how the EVO was encrypted, or any of the older phones? Would that help?
I'm really pulling for the developers to come up with a "simlpe root" for the
3VO!
Using the computer to open files and "push stuff in a shell with pc3600.exe.zip.whatever.something.newfile... wasn't easy when I got my EVO when it was released(with "s-on"). lol
Alright, honestly we just need to wait for HTC to release a update...
Its been 24 hours and already some people are thirsty to root this bad boy...
Give it time

That file is the build.prop with a different name. All it does is tell the phone that there is a smart_io.crd file, but it doesn't have the right information on it. You could name anything smart_io.crd and you'll get the same results.

I get that he was banned for stuff but linking to the "think tank forum section" where they are actually working on the s-off process and doing so for free shouldn't be an issue really. no?
Or is it the fact he provides stuff for charge on a completely different and unrelated section of his site that can be done for free?
regardless seems hes messing with the smart_io.zip thing that the devs here rattled around for a long time before we got s-off. So far doesn't look like much more than a bunch of trial going on and somewhat familiar to what it looked like here to start with too.
How does one boot the phone and then be able to get the sd card in? the battery needs to be out for the sd switch?

@ scotsman, so even if he isn't requiring money for THIS project, nor on THAT site, you're going to stifle the news of his work by deleting links to THIS project at THAT site even though the issue is with another project altogether? Seems to me you should be blocking THOSE links that lead to the specific objectionable content, as we members clearly want to share news of THIS project and THAT site. Because there is NO current hboot 1.5 root anywhere free, or otherwise. I'm all for maintaining principles, but there is nothing against your stated principles on THAT site. So please stop blocking THIS news from spreading until there's something objectionable here. Otherwise it's called censorship, not protecting principles. You're blocking links just because they are associated with him and for no other reason.

Mod, I suggest YOU ask the admin what to do, because this seems stupid. We need the info which you are suppressing.
How about Hboot.000012? please don't ignore our GSMers, really need to unlock + soff and start flashing.
In all fairness, the_scotsman is correct. Most of you that aren't familiar with the HTC EVO SHIFT rooting drama, don't know the full story behind why he was banned. It's easy to look at one side of the story then just ignore the rest, but probably not very wise. I'm sure plenty of you have read the information/stories on devnull's website, although perhaps you should trust in the moderator's decisions since there is a lot that happened that you guys don't know about.
Certain parties are making false claims, which are obvious to anyone with a detailed background. These claims extend far from just their "developments".
Picture of a hboot flashing an RUU is nothing special.
Picture of a hboot showing the CRC screen is nothing special.
These are things anyone can do, and mean squat.
Pulling a system/hboot off a s-off rezound will do nothing, all the ones that showed up had radio s-off already. The eng hboot I acquired as not signed, thus useless without radio. Same with custom patched hboots. Because without radio s-off the hboot gets signature checked, and unsigned/custom ones fail the check.
You can not flash recovery/kernel without s-off, as they will fail the secondary signature check by the hboot.
My advice is simply hold on to your money, DON'T give any donations until there is some actual work is released.
Protip: If a person spouts racial/homophobic slurs, they likely don't know squat about squat.
If you have any questions regarding any of this, or claims made by anyone just ask. (If I don't respond please give me a ping in PM, I often forget about forums).

I disagree with the majority of your post. I believe these developments are important and things are moving in the right direction. Slurs aren't a good thing, but that doesn't mean that the person saying them is ignorant. Yes, they might be ignorant in the way they present themselves, but not in other, unrelated ways. The things about stuff being signed is true, I agree with that though.

Ah alight, I just assumed since there has been too much of that lately here. In the end I just hope everyone gets S-Off with as little drama/troll as possible.
Jcase knows more about root,s-off,and h-boot than anyone else I've come across. I came from the Eris forum and have seen jcase and TeamAndIRC's work first had. Just look up some of the development stuff he has done across multiple forums. Then tell him you disagree with him(doesn't know what hes talking about)!
LOL, you all do realize who Jcase is right? You can tell him you disagree with his post, but that doesn't make him incorrect. He knows more about root than you all probably ever will. I'm hopeful for an exploit that will actually work and get it S-OFF as well, but damn if he isn't right.
Haha jcase schooled me on a friendly hacking bet on irc.
I think what jcase is saying is there is no credible evidence that the parties working on this are on to anything. I agree with him.
People have been doing this for a while now. They read a random tweet or a forum post and report here that soff will be achieved in a day or so and then massive disappointment follows. There is nothing wrong with being optimistic but i caution people starting threads announcing success with no evidence to back it up

Everyone just needs to chill the fawk out. End of story. When we get s-off, we get s-off. Until then, just deal with it or move on.
So far all the "development" I've seen on an S-off method has been a bunch of kids combing through image dumps byte by byte in a hex editor. Anyone in the world who wants to can do this if they have time, and if they know how to extract the data from the raw partitions, as we have temp root.
It honestly doesn't impress me. It's the worst sort of brute force method, it's manual, it's time consuming, and it's frankly old fashioned. I was doing this 25 years ago to crack copy protection on C64 games.
Do we have any real development going on, or is this what we're relying on to reverse engineer the signature keys?
I am guessing this is in response to a certain someone saying that he unlocked the rezound last night.

Thanks for the info jcase. Threads like the one posted earlier get me irritated.
"Hey guys we could have S-OFF soon, but don't ask me any questions, don't ask when it's gonna be released, and don't ask any other information regarding who or how. Oh, BTW don't start flaming each other."
A certain someone had stated we would have S-OFF on or shortly after thanksgiving. I'm always skeptical of claims w/o evidence, but I did grant trust tentatively. This time, I'm not gonna believe it until I see it.
Everyone needs to just relax and enjoy the phone as is. If you can't live w/o a rooted phone, I suggest returning it and buying one that already has a root method available.

Indeed.
I bought it knowing what I was getting into. Brand new phone, S-Off weeks or months off. Since I'd been running Sense 3.5 on my Incredible I knew I could deal with it un-rooted for a while.

While I can't speak to the technical aspects of your post, as I've told you before in IRC, etc., my thought is that if he does have S-Off/Root, he's 1) Not going to show/tell anyone how he did it until the Method is tested and released to the public so that no one else "steals the ball" and gets to it before him. Any Dev would not rush the release of this to the public because they don't want to be responsible for bricking 1,000's of phones
I wholeheartedly agree that no one should donate until the Root method is released and the Dev/Team responsible proves it.
Let's just let this all play out, and once S-Off is released to the public (no matter who does it), we can take assessment of the situation at that point if you want to, no need to jump the gun and assume that we have S-Off nor should we assume that certain Dev/Teams are full of bull poop.

lol I know right? They're punishing you by not giving you access to something no one uses anyway. Great way to make sure they don't get customers.

that would be okey if they denied us the access, but in trade for that they should have unlocked the entire bootloader, and not on the current state where we are screwed on both sides (and not the pleasant way)..
removed cuz of people *****ing have fun making emails yourself
Just saw this thread funny i had to rant about the same thing last night. IMO if they're gonna fully void our warranty they HAVE to fully unlock it. Anything else is bull****. Not having nvflash and fastboot is a bigger issue than all others combined for me.

its like giving away a car without an engine, nor a spot for one... ;/
and that noob @ asus... wow.. serious... i thought they had more brighter people working there...
also without being capable of using nvflash and fastboot, i won't unlock it i think..
and what if they release a new tool? would it be capable to use at the 'unlocked' devices as well? which im afraid off it won't at start of it...
post the email. We should have the whole forum send them an email. OR lets do another BBB complaint
i just used contact us @ asus.com... you won't get to see a true email adress, but at the bright hand, you don't have to fill in your serial number, just fill in like not-needed i did that as well
[update] seems like email 1 has been forwarded, since it has been changed activity to: your suggestion has been received by us and is being progressed.......etc...
email2 still no changes
removed cuz of people *****ing have fun making emails yourself
Looks good. But man if you get a real response from Asus at least proof read first. Everyone appreciates professionalism.

I can see a few reasons where it would make sense.
0.) Maybe they can't officially. I'm not sure where TF101's nvflash stuff comes from but I could see nVidia making it an issue not to just throw it around willy nilly. Who knows, they could be held liable or risk damaging their contracts with suppliers (like nVidia).
1.) If it could "Undo" the unlocker, well d'uh we're not gonna get it in any legit way.
2.) Maybe they're fed up with enough leaks and general issues that they don't care, after all two new models coming on line soon. And I do expect even if ASUS isn't replacing the Prime, stores will replace it with the new budget model and the Infinity.

IF unlocking the boot loader was for rooting(which this could be the case IF fastboot was working), they are basically contradicting themselves. They're saying since the boot loader is unlocked we can now root. The way you root when you unlock the boot loader is by changing ro-secure= from 1 to 0 in default.prop in the boot.img(unsecure boot.img), then flash the unsecure boot.img with fastboot. This gives you a root terminal and adb remount to mount system r/w. This is the proper way to do it.
The guy in that email is full of ****, or has no clue what he's talking about. Most likely both
It makes absolutely NO sense for them to cripple fastboot. Nvflash, I can somewhat see in the eyes of some paper pushing pu$$y, but not fastboot.
maybe someone else should try to email... ;/
I created this http://www.change.org/petitions/htc...unlock-the-droid-incredible-4g-lte-bootloader. to petition the unlock of the bootloader. We can't just sign a petition an pray for it to happen. We must get on their Facebook, twitter an any social media site they have pressuring them into this. Don't go post "hey assholes unlock our device", that won't help, just makes you look stupid! Post on their something like "I've been with you since 2005,long time customer, but you locking my device down in unacceptable! If this isn't fixed shortly I will leave for another company!" stuff like that over an over will get their attention. At the same time spread the word of the site an the unfairness of both the companies.
It's time to rise up an show them, without us, they are nothing!
Some extra info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32332265#post32332265
a few other notes:
if anyone has some suggestion, like change this or other stuff. bring it up here,so we can all discuss it. this is a community.even though the petition has my name on it,its all for you guys. so if their isnt something in it you dont like, well didnt i say bring it up?? lets all work together on this.
If anyone has heard back from either company, please share it here with everyone.
I might delete some comments in the future, just to showcase responses back from people or other stuff. It's not personal .

Thanks to mdmower,I added his revised version for the petition. I'll admit his looks better then mine.

Include the HTC Incredible 4G LTE in HTCdev's unlockable bootloader program
Upon release of the HTC Incredible 4G LTE, HTCdev included the phone in its unlockable bootloader program. Within a matter [of] days, the phone was removed from the program, presumably at the request of Verizon Wireless. There is no clear reason as to why this phone was removed from the program, as users of the bootloader unlock suffered no ill effects.
This petition is being put forth to both HTCdev and Verizon Wireless to request that the HTC [Droid] Incredible 4G LTE be reinstated into the unlockable bootloader program. Support of open development drives innovation and sales. HTC's software developers can learn from the developer community while Verizon Wireless can benefit from end-users upgrading/renewing their plans to take advantage of this new phone. Furthermore, this simple act would incline users to recommend both HTC products and Verizon Wireless service in the future.
Inclusion of the HTC Incredible 4G LTE into HTCdev's unlockable bootloader program is in the best interest of HTC, Verizon Wireless, and end-users. Please take action on this matter as soon as possible.

Agreed. This is similar to the letter I wrote to the regional prez for VZW covering South Carolina. Granted mine was 3 pages long and covered individual issues I've had with VZW. Of course I never got a reply.
Signed. Recived another letter from Verizon that was the exact one I recived before.

Op updating
The several posts that were deleted were on-topic and showed contribution from the community to writing/revising this petition, I don't see why they were removed. This also eliminated the possibility of thanking users for various contributions. I'm new to posting on XDA, and now I'm missing out on any opportunity to add to my thanks meter.
The OP's petition still retains the old petition letter below the description. I initially thought these would be non-editable so I created a separate petition (really, I'm surprised that a petition author can change the letter AFTER signatures have been added, but change.org seems to allow this). I now see that the OP can in fact edit all aspects of the petition (except maybe the url), and so users should sign that when it is completely updated.
signed.
but should it say "HTC and Verizon" not "an" ?
Guys please read the op over again. I currently stated that some posts would be deleted, it's in order to show who signed an has heard back from either company.
I will be adding to the op who has helped an stuff, just please bare with me on this. I have a lot going on with xda.
Here is what i Got from VZW. I talked to Scott today and he offered me a different device saying that the letter states VZW's stance on the bootloader being unlocked. He actually started the offer with a Galaxy S3 and I said Rezound if I was going to do that. It was for a certified used device with cover and battery. He said my plan and everything would stay the same. He gave me until Friday for the offer.

Did they offer you the S3 at upgrade price? Without losing unlimited data? In the letter I wrote to the regional prez for the Carolinas, I told them I'd be willing to pay for a new phone at upgrade price if I didn't lose my unlimited data, but haven't heard anything back.

I just want to make sure that you realize the petition isn't completely updated. Please take no offense, I just want people to have a petition they are comfortable signing (myself included),
1) Other users have mentioned the use of "an" in place of "and"; these are two very different words. I hope you'll reconsider this habit in the future.
2) The letter just beneath the description of the petition still contains the old petition's text: "HTC an Verizon are abusing their abilities...". I'm very uncomfortable signing the petition with this letter still in place.
3) The paragraph breaks are missing from the letter. The breaks help emphasize different points and are appropriate.
4) When introducing HTCdev, it would be best to first list the name, then follow with the web address. In the first paragraph, replace "http://www.htcdev.com" with "HTCdev (htcdev.com)".
Please realize that we are trying to petition some very large corporations. Professionalism is a must if we expect to be taken seriously. Attacks on their name or reputation are only going to guarantee non-response. Poor grammar and structure will also leave our petition ignored. HTC and Verizon Wireless will have a more difficult time combating reason and intellect, and for this I think the community should strive.
I copied everything you posted in the pm. I'm not obligated to do this for y'all, I'm trying to help out. This will be updated when I have the time. If you want to start your own be my guest. Don't get mad or something with me, when I'm busy doing stuff around xda an in my life.
Honestly you should be glad, that I'm doing this for you guys. I don't mind a little nudge here or there to fix stuff. Just don't badger me over stuff.

did someone in our community ask you to make the petition?
If not.. you did this on your on time and doing.
so we would like to be taken seriously, no on is putting you down, I've had issues with mdmower, but I have to agree with the polite way he approached you about the petition, but I found your response a bit childish in the manner you had let us know that you aren't doing this because you have to but rather YOU chose to.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate you and what you're doing.
but I don't NEED to be glad about anything that you are doing, so for you to say "Honestly you should be glad, that I'm doing this for you guys." is completely childish IMO and I don't agree with it one bit.
If you don't want to be bothered over "stuff" then why are you the OP?
I'm confused.
If it possible please ignore my actions last night. I was stressed out over my job interview I had this morning.
I'm sorry for the way I acted.
