Hi There
I was using GingerBlur on my Atrix until I decided to go ahead and try out CherryBlur.
I downloaded the MEGA pack as suggested by the developer, booted into CWM recovery, "Installed zip from SD card".
After about 2-3 minutes, it said: Installation Successful.
From the menu options, I chose, Reboot.
From then on, I cant boot my phone. It just says, "Failed To Boot 4" and goes into RSD mode.
I cant get it to fastboot or anything.
Question:
Which SBF do I flash now? I heard flashing too old an SBF can hard brick my phone because apparently later versions of Android set a fuse somewhere on the phone?
Could please someone help me by telling WHICH sbf will save me here?
Go to gitbrew.org/atrix and download the 1.8.3, it should be near the top of the list as it is a popular download.

As long as you are not on Gingerbread OTA you can flash back to 1.83. Really shouldnt be trying to flash roms if your bootloader is still locked. most of the roms out now need unlocked bootloader and the unlocked CWM.
Gingerblur was a pseudo-Rom, didnt mess with anything important, Alien, cherry, and aura are for unlocked bootloaders using the CWM version for unlocked bootloaders.
Thanks a lot for your reply
I was waiting for someone to reply before trying to flash again using RSDLite..
I had 4.1.83 OTA when I installed GingerBlur..
Can I flash to the stock ROM (4.5.91) provided here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163342
Or should it be some other version, say 4.1.83, as you suggested?
And then how do I go about unlocking the bootloader? I am sorry, but I am a newbie to all this...!!
Thanks again!
I flashed the 1.8.3 sbf using rsd lite then I used kennethpenn's update to go to gingerbread. you can find it here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163342
2 things:
*be sure you unlock the bootloader before doing this update*
and
*when you click on the download link on xda it takes you to the bottom of a briefmobile page, scroll up to the download link that says "beta 4.5" under it, and download that one... otherwise you'll get a failed to boot (i did this by mistake).*
Great so almost all believe that 1.8.3 should be safe as far as I did not do an OTA for 2.3.4 (which I did not, it was only until 4.1.83)
I will try flashing the 1.8.3 on the weekend, about 24 hours from now
I have my fingers crossed!
failed to boot 4 issue happen when you flash a boot.img in your phone without unlockimg the bootloader, i know... i had it...
Got it back to life!
Thanks everyone guys...

You cannot get all the info you need in one post, search through the thread and look to see if anyone else is having your issue.
Here is another thread that offer up some links that might help too.

You will have to read a little bit. It would take a very long time for someone to compile a tutorial that would include all the variables that might be relative to this phone.

I can confirm that flashing the latest sbf from pudding will work on 2.3.4 OTA, using RSD lite. After flashing the sbf, you will get a 0x1000 cannot boot message, but don't worry, its not a real hard brick. When that message pops up, IMMEDIATELY go into fastboot and type "fastboot oem unlock" and you will not be bricked, and you will be unlocked. I performed this on my 2.3.4 OTA atrix yesterday, without any problems.
where u get latest Sbf file ? when i click start for flashing it gave error that flashing process failed
and also have u tired any custom rom ? and how was the experience
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182526
use that sbf file. it works on 2.3.4 OTA.
read through the thread - it will explain well what to expect, explain the soft brick issue and how to remedy it, and also what you need to have in advance for it to all work smoothly.
MY RSD give error. when i entered in RSd support rsdlite show it connected when i start sbf flashing it give error that flashing process failed.0x7027 phone cant retrieve any help with that ?.
try using this version of RSDLite. It worked for me with this one.

im previously on 5.3.1 is safe to use a downgraded version
yeah.
its just a different version of the pc software. downgrading is only a problem if you're downgrading phone software but this is ok.
not working
Same error? Did you check that the drivers installed correctly? Try a reboot on pc and use a different usb port
Wow I’m really drained I’ve spent a lot of hours trying to update to gingerbread (OTA) but just can’t get anything to work.
My phone Atrix 4G currently running build OLYFR_U4_1.8.3, the phone is rooted and has the webtop hack.
What I have tried so far
I have tried to flash the spf file using RSD lite with the new gingerbread update. No luck about 10 min in the program stops and says flash failed . I tried using RSD lite to flash back to an earlier version again same problem flash fails .
I have tried the over the air update and it failed; I got the yellow triangle, when I got the yellow triangle I swiped the bottom of the screen and it said DockService.apk failed, so I searched and found numerous people saying I had to revert back to the orginal files if I did the webtop hack. I reverted back to the orginal files using super manager but now my DockService.apk, PhonePortal.apk, and DockProvider.apk all say (no install); it looks like this:
DockService.apk(no install)
I tried installing the apk files using super manager and it attempts to but fails .
I’m really at a loss here I have no idea what to try anymore this is just really kicking my butt, could someone please help me or point me in the right directions. Thank you in advance.
are you trying to unlock your bootloader? or just upgrade?
Have you tried flashing the pudding SBF?
I had a problem with the update and originally flashed the Fruit Cake img files using fastboot. Maybe that will work. Look for the Fruit Cake Thread in the Dev section, or try the pudding SBF..

your best bet would be flashing back to 1.8.3 stock and then trying to upgrade

I saw the fruit cake thing last night, but I’m confused how to use it.
I know I see an option for fastboot when I turn the phone on holding the power and down volume button but that’s where my knowledge ends, can you tell me or point to a thread on how to Fastboot?
I haven’t heard of the pudding SBF I will look more into that now, thanks.

I have the spf file for 1.8.3 but when i try using RSDlite to flash back it fails??
Is there another way to flash back??
fastboot works in conjunction with the command prompt on your pc. It's much better than rsd
Anyone got any ideas on why in super manager my dockservice, portal, and dockprovider all say no install in the GUI??
Is this going to affect me in anyway?

Not true, he can flash pudding and not unlock. I hadn't unlocked for a month or so after I had pudding. It runs fine without running command line oem unlock. ^_^
I had the same problem.
I update my phone successfully only thru my PC.
Download and install automated update tool from motorola support site which will guide you through the update process. This tool will upgrade your device to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) from any previously released version.

I'm going to guess this has to do with my files that say (no install)
namely the phone portal one, I believe that controls data

The guide worked perfect for me, easy to follow and straight forward. I am now updated and running the Alien Rom
Hi,
I ordered an Atrix 4g yesterday on amazon.de and since flashing a custom rom on my previous phone was such and improvement I wanted to do the same with the atrix. But after reading some threads in the dev section I must admit i'm very confused and I have some questions.
- How do I know if my phone is unlocked? if not how to unlock?
- I think it ships with 2.2, update to 2.3.4 or just flash custom rom?
- Can anyone tell me all the steps I need to do to go from stock 2.2 to a custom rom? (CM7 Mod ICS FINAL or Neutrino ROM 1.4-S) (including unlocking, recovery etc) this part is very confusing because a lot of roms have different types of flashing and some are talking about fastboot, does my phone have this?
- How do I know what version of the phone I have? ATT? Tmobile?
- Is there any chance of bricking when doing this? With my previous phone you could ony soft brick.
I'm sorry if these things are already written somewhere but I just couldn't find em.
Thnx for all info you can tell me.
Check the noob guide in the gerenal section, its at the top of the forum,
To figure out your software version just go to settings >about phone
As for bricking you can only hard brick if you use the ota gingerbread update THEN use rsd to downgrade. So if you only use rsd to unlock then you are safe
sent from my Atrix via XDA premium
So I got my atrix a few days ago and have been looking to unlock/flash it since.
I read most posts/guides and I think I know what to do, but I'm still scared of bricking so I wanted to dubble check if I got it right
My atrix:
System: 45.31.0.MB860.Retail.en.DE
Android: 2.3.4
Build number: 4.5.2A-74_OLE-31
What I think I have to do:
1st: Flash SBF file (the IHOP file from the house of pudding) with RSDlite
2nd: Fastboot unlock
3th: Install clockworkmod with Fastboot like in:
ww w.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-motorola-atrix-4g/
(remove the space between the WWW, not enough posts to post a link)
4th: Do a backup with clockworkmod
5th: Flash a custom ROM with clockworkmod and clear cache, dalvik cache and data.
Could someone plz comfirm that all this is correct?
Greetings!
That sounds about right
Be sure to follow any specific installation instructions for the Custom ROM you choose. Some prefer you wipe via fastboot, some want you to wipe certain partitions *after* installation, etc.

OK, this all worked perfect and have been running Neutrino's since. But I wanted to try darkside now, can I just flash this in clockwork? Because I read somewhere when you flash an earlier version you get brick and neutrino's is 2.3.7 and darkside 2.3.5?
Recently I ordered Motorola 4g from US.... It was with stock Sprint Sunfire OS.
System Version : 45.4.13.MB855.Sprint.en.Us
Model MB855
Android 2.3.5
Baseband N_01.29.10R
Webtop 1.2.0-180
Kernel [email protected] #2
Build 4.5.1A-1_SUN-254_13
So what I did, I was trying to install custom rom on that. Steps I had taken
Rooted phone via installing SuperUser and various rooting methods like ClickOnce, Photon -Torpedo but no one seems successful , while executing I got errors everytime. But after day or two I came to know about that my phone is rooted. As I was getting SuperUser popups on root operations. Then I installed CWM and tried to install the ROM from there but everytime I got stucked at Yellow Triangular icon (recovery mode).
Repeated step on rooting process and unlocking the bootloader by applying pudding.rar and fastboot commands and every time i got the error and Starting RSD Screens, but anyhow my phone recovers itself to its original boot state afetr pulling out battery and manually restrating.
Finally one day I use some other Recovery Tool , i am unable to recall the name. It installed and rebooted successfully in the recovery mode. I then wipe the dalvik cache, wipe factory reset and then tried to installl the custom rom that MIUI 2.68 i think . I was happy to see some designer screens on my phone and then it said rom installed successfully.
I then reboot my phone and found it in the Failed To Start2 , Starting RSD mode
I tried various way to restore...
Installing pudding.rar using RSD lite but everytime I got sec_exception : sec_exception : b655, eddc,eb
I then tried reinstalling SBF : 1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_7-CM-release-keys-signed-Sprint-US.sbf and sunfire-2.3.5-4.5.1A-1_SUN-254_4 but while enumerating phone I got error sec_exception febe 4e 4e
I have also tried nopudding4u.sbf but the same result.
Please,, help me and my phone out .. as its going to be more than a week... i feel handicaaped...
Please guide me through the step by step , which file and when and please do provide the links of the files to download.

Thanks for your reply peetr_.. I would like to know on the basis of my exceptions , Is my phone recoverable or become as useless as a paperweight. I can see fastboot modes and RSD modes and can even swicth between them. In some other forum , I came to know that ,I can reover my phone back but for that I need a locked bootstrap for 2.3.5 and then reflash using the stock sbf.
So could you please tell me how to do that and where to find those files. I am digging XDA Forums and AndroidForum.com past two weeks for the solution...

3. Can I install , other custom roms on it, in future If I want?

This seems like a lot of work just to get a softbricked Photon 4G to work. Didn't Motorola release a soak test about two months ago? Do we have an SBF for that? If so then couldn't someone with a bricked Photon 4G (running 2.3.5 stock) just flash the soak test files and get the Photon working fine?
Also if someone does follow these instructions, will they be able to get the latest OTAs from Sprint when ICS/JB goes official?

This is the only way, there is no sbf for the latest soak. And honestly, this process doesnt take very long. If you cant spare an hour to unbrick a phone then people shouldnt be tinkering with their phone in the first place. And nope, you will remain locked, no way to unlock and install ics/jb.
"Say Apple one more MoPho'n time..."
I'm currently struggling with this process. I flashed the .sbf via rsdlite. It gets to 100% but then it says error because phone failed to re-enumerate. I installed RockoDev's ROM last night and phone was bricked all night while I naively thought it would load. Was stuck at the NOW screen when I went to bed and hadn't changed when I woke up.

I am not. It used to be an old gamer tag that I used for various games. On a side note I still can't get past step 1. Phone fails to re-enumerate after flashing .sbf file.
