Requirements:
Your MSL code (See Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=697487)
Instructions:
Turn OFF your 4G radio if it is turned on!
1) Click on phone and dial ##DATA# (##3282#)
2) Click on "Edit Mode"
3) Type in your MSL code (see above if you don't have it yet)
4) Click on the menu entry "WiMAX"
5) Scroll down the list and click on "WiMAX_Scan_Retry(s)"
6) Enter the number 15 and click "OK" (This equals 15 seconds instead of 300 seconds)
7) Scroll down the list and click on "WiMAX_Entry_Delay(s)"
8) Enter the number 0 and click "OK" (This equals 0 seconds instead of 300 seconds)
9) Press the "Menu" key and click on "Commit Modifications"
10) Grab a cup of coffee, get a bite to eat, or sit back and wait for your EVO to restart
Result:
After modifying the settings for WiMAX, the phone will reconnect to the 4G tower in as little as 20 seconds after being disconnected!
This is a HUGE improvement over the 5+ minutes to reconnect if a loss of signal occurs (300+ seconds).
You can also have it connect with a weaker signal by lowering the Entry_RX to ~ -100-95db and the Entry CINR to 2. Lowering the Exit CNR and increasing the Delay will also make it wait longer before falling back to 3G.
Also, leaving WiMAX (4G) turned on all the time, will normally drain your battery quite fast. After making the change above, it will cause your battery usage to increase because the phone will be checking for service much more often.
Remedy: Turn 4G off when you are not using it.

I could only have entry CINR entry values at 4-10 (wouldn't take 2). Also (nit picky) Max values were 120 vs 300.
Thanks y'all for the mods. I changed everything else.

Can someone post what the factory setting are for the

"WiMAX_Entry_Delay(s)"

Can I get default settings for Wimax. Tried the changes but must have changed something unknowingly. Not sure what to change back without defaults listed.

Maybe I will give this a try since if your more than 10ft away from the wimax tower the signal dumps.
My battery won't, but I will thank you for this!
I changed a few things, thanks
Hopefully I can use 4G from 15ft away from the clearwire tower instead of 10.
These changes worked great on my EVO, hopefully its the same for the 3D

Awesome hack!
Awesome hack,
I took a video before and after and yes, this does improve 20-30% for sheezy, thanks!
How long does it take for the changes to commit? My phone has been sitting for like 10 minutes on "Please wait while committing change..."
Shouldn't take more than a few seconds... I would reboot & try again
mine has been sitting for almost an hour saying "committing change". I tried rebooting 5 times it hasn't made a difference. All my numbers are staying in the settings but it doesn't seem to make any difference and it won't stop saying committing to change
I am reflashing a friends evo right now. Same problem with that message hanging. I had it hang when doing a hard reset ##786. However I just let it sit a min, then rebooted the phone and it did reactivate itself and also saved the adjusted wimax settings. I was using mikG rom so could be an issue with that rom maybe.
Related
So after rebooting about a week ago on BAMF Remix 1.7 (I think the ROM is irrelevant but just putting it in for information's sake), my 3g/mobile data stopped working. When I go into network settings, the Mobile network option is checked to connect to the internet and under APNs, there is a vzwinternet profile with a green (I'm guessing turned on?) marker.
I've tried various ROMS: BAMF, BAMF Remix, CM7, and even the Gingerbread variations of BAMF as well.
Also I've experimented with all of the radios (every one listed under the obligatory radio thread) and different kernels.
And lastly, I've wiped multiple times every time I've flashed a new ROM and have even formatted my SD card hoping it was some rogue application that disabled it.
So what can I do to bring back 3g/mobile data?
Note: Wifi, calls, and sms will works for me. MMS does not however.
I have the same problem but mine shows after rebooting, than say error when I try browser or anything that has to do with data, But works at times.
*WALK in the WORD*
Mine isn't working at all. Not even after rebooting.

How you checked with your Carrier? I'm with Orange UK and my 3g was down for 4 days once due to cell tower maintenance...
Might be worth a call to check!?

I suppose that would be the logical thing to do next before I start torching my Thunderbolt.

This happened to me, exactly as you've stated. I posted here but got no remedy. I tried all the things you've mentioned, reflashing the ROM, raeflashing the radio, etc. Nothing helped.
Finally, I had the idea to restore a recent backup from before I had the problem. THAT worked. I hope it helps you too.
I didn't have a chance to call during the day but I did head over to my friend's house who lives in a different area. She has VZW just as me and she was getting 3G on her blackberry but 3G/mobile data was still unavailable for me.
It's not a coverage issue but on my end.
While lurking around the mobile data settings, there was a profile for VZW under APN settings. Could someone post theirs so I could see if they match with mine? Maybe that's the solution to my problem?
I don't think it's rom dependent. I lost 4g the other day and I have yet to get it back. I have my own theories but the jerk at the VZW store wouldn't let me try my theory. I'm waiting for my usual rep to comeback, she lets me try just about anything I want. The rest are just dicks. I have tried swapping roms, radios, and all but going back stock to fix it. And nothing has brought it back. BTW, have you tried CDMA prl to see if you can get data at all? I can get 3g that way, but when I go into evdo/lte or lte only I lost all data. Also, do you have it in rev A mode under your modem settings?
I had this exact same problem with BAMF remix 1.6.3, to make this story short this is how it eventually got fixed:
Go into settings and do a check for new software.
This will force 3g to cut on. (Note: it may take a few times for the 3g to come on and STAY ON. It took me almost a day doing it about every hour.
Enjoy
Holy crap, that worked. Of all the things I tried and I couldn't get anything. Now LTE is back. You're awesome.

I have to go to work right now but yes it is turning on 3G at the moment but it's only using the up arrow (eg. uploading data but not downloading data). I"m guessing with a couple of more tries it'll eventually lock in.
If this doesn't work on gingerbread, I'll try reverting back to froyo and try it then as well.

Glad I could help.. I spent nearly two hours on the phone with Tier II support and they guy said.. well this is a long shot but try this. Didnt work the first time I tried it so he sent me a new phone but in the time it took to get the new phone, I kept trying and it finally locked in.
Ok, well I thought it worked. Every time I try it, it will give me the 4gLTE indicator, but if I open up anything that uses data it just says no mobile conectivity then after about 5-6 min it stops showing any data. Also, I can still go back to CDMA(PRL) and get 3g. It's just under 4GLTE/evdo and lte only.
BTW, for any other future reference, I started experiencing these issues right after I debloated (uninstalled) the blockbuster app.

keep trying... it will stick eventually
It's alright, I have a replacement coming tuesday. I just have to return to stock before then.
When you guys went to the software update option, during that duration when it was enabled were both 3G arrows animated? I'm only getting an up arrow (uploading).
I've been trying now for hours on the PRL setting and also cdma+lte/evdo auto
Well, I haven't been able to get this to work. Is there anything else I should try besides the software update trick before returning my phone to stock and returning it to VZ?
i had the same problem as you OP, but after pressing check new enough times and jumping straight into the browser, i got it to stick. took at least 12 tries, however and i'll see if it lasts.
love the franklin avatar btw!
also, is anyone using juice defender? idk if its coincidence or not, but i d/l the program last night and this is the first data connectivity problem i've had with the tbolt.
Yes, I had both arrows. But, for some reason when I would open the browser to google it wouldn't work. I tried about 4 times, each time it would show data, but I wouldn't have a connection. Also, it would show data being up and down stream, but I couldn't manage to get it to work when I tried it.
Alright, scattered throughout the forum there are at least three (so far) threads reporting problems with phones. Headphone screeching, pink LEDs, red LEDs, light leaking, 4G drops, speaker issues, and so on. I'm curious, since the forum isn't filled with posts extolling problem-free Rezounds, how many of us actually have gotten a good phone on the first try.
There's plenty of other threads about reporting and tracking problems, returns, and problems with returns. I'd like to see a more accurate count of people with good and bad (and multiple bad) phones. If you could post, problems or not, the first bunch of #'s of your S/N too (found in Settings -> About Phone -> Phone Identity) that might help to see if there are good and bad batches. I think 6 or 7 should be enough to identify production batch runs but I'll put 8 out there, its not enough info for you to do anything bad with. Also where you got it from.
I have no problems with my phone, S/N: HT1A2S20**** Ordered directly from Verizon Customer Support on the phone, 11/22/11.
S/N HT1A2S21 No serious problems, but have had 2 instances where the phone turned off and thought the battery was dead although it was not hot and was over 50%. No exchange though, maybe you should add that poll option.

Damn, I tried to think of any special cases to add an option for, but I didn't think of that one. Can't edit polls after they're posted. I'd count yours as Option #1 though, sounds like you don't have a lot of major problems, thus a "good" phone.
I got my Rezound about 4 days ago and working perfect so far. Love it!!!
Rocking My Unbelievable Crazy Rezound
had audio issues with my 1st, the 2nd has the light bleeding problem however its not a big deal at all to me and it kinda looks cool in the dark
so im happy
I voted none since I really have not had a problem with it enough to make me exchange it.
I do have the LED bleed everyone mentions. Noticeable in the dark when the screen first comes on and when you look down at it from above.
And when I first got it the buttons when lit were red and now they are turning a little on the pink side.
Neither of these really bother me.
No issues, and now that my Incredible has been declared dead, there's no turning back.
I am not sure. I love the phone for sure but I suspect I am getting the 4g drop issue. I keep wanting to attribute it to the network but it may be my phone. It only happens once a week or so but when it goes out, it feels like it takes 3g out with it. So for the tally, I would say the first option would be my answer. I still love the phone and I have tried the razor (yuck) and the Nexus is not my cup of tea. Staying here and patiently waiting for S-Off.
I have keys that are sorta pink, but everything else is fine.

Hm... I just voted no return but I am having a 4g issue of it turning off by itself. Unless someone can tell me how I might be doing it somehow. I can turn it back on with an app but I shouldn't have to. I guess I would return if this becomes a constant event. It's happened twice in the last week, had the phone since 11/23.
I also hear the audio digital crunching but only when music is not playing so I don't think I would return for that.

I think everyone has the first issue, it's just the way the screen is attached. It's hardly noticeable. Pink buttons ... Wow, I can't believe how many people are upset about that.

I hear ya....
My issues were as follows:
1. Screeching through 3.5mm jack
2. Pink LEDs, if they lit at all. Mine were really strange, sometimes they would light up in direct sunlight, sometimes in a pitch black room I'd get nothing.
3. Poor Gmail syncing. I'd notice in my browser at times I'd have an email 30-40 minutes old and nothing on my phone, other times it would notify me right away.
4. Poor notification LED. I'd find times I'd turn on the screen to text message or email waiting for me and no blinking LED.
Those are the highlights. I'm Definitely waiting for a bit before getting another phone, let a few batches through and see if I can get some better luck.
Wait too long and you'll get a refurb.

Hm.. yes, I have seen that. And just now when I went into it after seeing your post it showed only CDMA selected. So I selected LTE/CDMA and checked the app as well and that showed 4g. And when I went into the menu you mentioned I saw my phone was on 3g but it has said 4g all day until I went into that menu. Unless it switched while I was away from the phone, I didn't actually see what it was on immediately before going into the menu.
But I most certainly did not go in there and change it myself today and have been on 4g all morning. The only network change I made was turning wifi on to download an app then turning it back off again. Maybe I'll do that again and see if it does anything.
EDIT: Turned wifi on, went into browser and poked around a bit, turned wifi off. LTE still on. Also, I'm pretty sure when this has happened before that LTE was selected within the phone, or when I selected it nothing happened. I've been going through so many setting in the last few days it's hard to remember exactly, but I know I saw that before and still had no 4g until Verizon employee downloaded LTE on/off app and turned it on. In fact, they told me the app was the only way to toggle 4g on/off when I asked them if there was anything I could have done to have turned it off. Of course the one guy who said he owned the RZD was just trying to sell me a home line.

If you are referring to me, I'm not sure why. I returned the phone, went back to my OG Droid and reinstated my upgrade. Any phone I get will be a new upgrade, don't think they could give me a refurb. If you weren't referring to me, carry on, I'll see myself out.
Ah, read my post, I never said I returned the phone. That'll do it.

So there's a special app you have installed that toggles 4G? I wonder if that's messing with things behind the scenes. Suggestion: Make sure 4G is on in the app, make sure LTE/CDMA is on in Settings, then uninstall the app. Reboot, make sure 4G is still on. Use it for a while on 4G (leave WiFi off) and see if it sticks.

Power settings maybe? Are you on economy mode? Shot in the dark.
EDIT: That's it, went and turned on economy mode just to look at the settings, there wasn't one for lte, I switched back to normal mode and noticed I went from 4g to 1x, went and looked in network settings and I was on cdma only. You are welcome
Just did it again to confirm as soon as I switch to economy 4g shuts off and does not come back on when going back to normal mode I had to go turn it back on manually in network settings, Economy mode must turn off lte which would be a good thing if you could set it to a certain battery level or something and it would come back on when you were above that, but I didnt see anything in the economy power settings for it.

It happens to me when I am driving through an area that drops to no bars or loses service. Not every time, just some. The weird thing is that both OG EVO's that I had lost there time zone about 4 or 5 times total within the last six months or so. I wonder if it is something with the network vision setup that triggered it. Of course the OG EVO wouldnt give a notification but I am in CST -6:00 time zone and my phone time would change by 6 hours randomly. It threw off all my alarms and alerts. I had to switch the time zone from network provided to manual to make sure it didn't happen again.

I have/had the same problem. I tried something and I'm not sure if it worked yet because its only been a day.
Go to Calendar>Menu>Settings and scroll down to "Select 2nd Time Zone" Then select "None"
Try that and see if it works. I havent gotten the annoying notification ever since but like I said, I havent given it enough time yet to be sure. I really dont even know what that option is for to be honest with you.
Alright, I'll try to manually set it and see what happens. Those of you that updated PRL, what PRL did you update to? I updated once, but I think there is another out too..just checking before I do it.

Ok, So I have one of the pre ordered Evo lte phones. I know there are always bugs with new phones which is why I have waited till now to even ask what others might do. I have tried a full reset and called Sprint to have the profile reset as well.
Here are some of the issues I am experiencing.
1.) Wifi is always dropping. Even after making the hidden settings changes. Rebooting my router. As well as a few other things I've seen to try.
2.) I don't get my text. There are times I will get text right away but most of the time it takes between an hour and half up to 9 hours. (Longest I've had so far) I have done some resets, had Sprint reset my profile, tried different messaging apps.
3.) Micro-SD card will not stay mounted. I have tried different cards and formatted with no luck. I finally just switched to using the internal memory.
Should I go ahead and take the phone back or just wait flash roms and see if it gets better?
This is not to complain just to get an idea of what some other might do. I still love my Evo lte and you couldn't pay me to take another phone. Especially now that Crapple is again threatening the sales.
I appreciate any insight others might be able to share.
Thank you.

I doubt a new phone will fix WIFI issues. And the WIFI issues can cause receiving text issues because it bounces back and forth between WIFI and 3G.
Did you try setting WIFI to 2.4Ghz? That helped mine a lot, but WIFI still gets errors now and then that can mess the phone up. IT IS ROUTER DEPENDENT.
My WIFI at work, works fine.
Your SD Card is not normal though, no ROM will fix that.

Yes I have set my Wifi to 2.4Ghz while the Wifi seemed a little more steady it still dropped 5+ times more than my 3D.
I also appreciate your comment on the phone switching back and forth between wifi and 3g disrupting the text messages. I would guess that could account for some of the time but I drive a lot for work and this happens all day. I think tomorrow just to test I'll turn the wifi completely off.

For sure take it back, I havent had a single issue that you speak of so I am assuming that it is a bad device you have.
my 2 cents
well after talking to a tech, csr, and going to the store I was contacted and asked if I'd be willing to come out to the Sprint Campus and talk about the issues I've had and they will do an exchange while there. I'll post later this evening about the experience.
Interesting stuff man, let us know how it goes!
Well, the title says it all. I recently had a predicament where my device wasn't receiving 4G. We came to the conclusion it was the SIM card.
My phone is pulling at least 9 MB/s usually, but when I load an app, 3 that come to mind are Facebook, Google Reader, and Google Now, it takes at least almost as long as 3G speeds to load anything... I just cleared the data on the Facebook app, tried to log in, and it took so long that it timed out and won't log in.
What the **** is going on with my phone? I got a replacement shipped to me, but I already sent it back due to the fact that I got my 4G connection back. It seems as though whenever I load anything, there's always this..... extreme delay to get everything started. If I open up Google Chrome, the phone moves insanely fast browsing. I don't understand what is holding back the other apps from pulling in a good connection.
Can anyone tell me what is going on with my device? I'm getting frustrated as hell.
Anything?

Random, not probable, and i'm just thinking out loud since no one else is... haha
But, does it act that slow all the time (in those certian apps, or all around)?
When you conduct your speedtests, are you in the same location as when you are trying to use those apps that load slow?
The reason i ask, is because i recently troubleshooted data speeds on my phone that were frequently occurring, well as it turned out the "frequently" was only when i was in my barracks room. I conducted a test inside my room, slow as hell, i stuck the phone out the window and conducted a test, and it was instantly the 4G LTE Speeds. (Note:I have ALWAYS gotten good speed in my room up until like 4 days ago) I don't know if verizon changed something, or the tower changed or what, but it was random and yeah...

I've tried speed tests in various locations, and they're all pulling good MB. I've not dipped below 3 MB at all. It's definitely not a room situation either because I've tried it in different parts of my city and different houses/buildings. It's strictly my device.
Ugh... I have to call them again to get this issue fixed now. :l

Call them so they can what, tell you to enable/disable your data connection, then power off your phone for 30 seconds and restart, put it in airplane mode and then back out, then if all else fails restart the phone from scratch? lol
Sorry i couldn't help.
When u open app for first time it is slow, bit if you close app and reopen it, is it fast on reopening or just as slow? I know when I usr cache cleaner the first time I open apps it takes an extra sec to pull them open.

The only issue ive experianced is a lag and delay. Example in xda app hitting the next button for the page just sits there and I press it again then about 10 seconds later im up 2-3 pages at once.
Its the internal. App data requests that are lagged behind at times.
