Constantly unable to find my time zone? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Anyone else constantly getting spammed by a notice saying it's unable to fine my current time zone? Rather annoying..

I just had problems with that as well. I had to power cycle my phone and it fixed the problem but it thought I was in Columbus, Ohio and right now I'm in Houston, TX
Sent from my EVO using xda premium

It happens to me when I am driving through an area that drops to no bars or loses service. Not every time, just some. The weird thing is that both OG EVO's that I had lost there time zone about 4 or 5 times total within the last six months or so. I wonder if it is something with the network vision setup that triggered it. Of course the OG EVO wouldnt give a notification but I am in CST -6:00 time zone and my phone time would change by 6 hours randomly. It threw off all my alarms and alerts. I had to switch the time zone from network provided to manual to make sure it didn't happen again.

I have the same problem. There is another thread about this....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1691903

I unchecked the auto time zone option in Date and Time, manually set my time zone , haven't seen it since

Yup. But about 4 days ago I also manually set it, and haven't been bothered by it since.

I have/had the same problem. I tried something and I'm not sure if it worked yet because its only been a day.
Go to Calendar>Menu>Settings and scroll down to "Select 2nd Time Zone" Then select "None"
Try that and see if it works. I havent gotten the annoying notification ever since but like I said, I havent given it enough time yet to be sure. I really dont even know what that option is for to be honest with you.

Alright, I'll try to manually set it and see what happens. Those of you that updated PRL, what PRL did you update to? I updated once, but I think there is another out too..just checking before I do it.
Thanks guys

SOLVED [Q] 3G/Mobile Data Not Working

So after rebooting about a week ago on BAMF Remix 1.7 (I think the ROM is irrelevant but just putting it in for information's sake), my 3g/mobile data stopped working. When I go into network settings, the Mobile network option is checked to connect to the internet and under APNs, there is a vzwinternet profile with a green (I'm guessing turned on?) marker.
I've tried various ROMS: BAMF, BAMF Remix, CM7, and even the Gingerbread variations of BAMF as well.
Also I've experimented with all of the radios (every one listed under the obligatory radio thread) and different kernels.
And lastly, I've wiped multiple times every time I've flashed a new ROM and have even formatted my SD card hoping it was some rogue application that disabled it.
So what can I do to bring back 3g/mobile data?
Note: Wifi, calls, and sms will works for me. MMS does not however.
I have the same problem but mine shows after rebooting, than say error when I try browser or anything that has to do with data, But works at times.
*WALK in the WORD*
Mine isn't working at all. Not even after rebooting.

How you checked with your Carrier? I'm with Orange UK and my 3g was down for 4 days once due to cell tower maintenance...
Might be worth a call to check!?

I suppose that would be the logical thing to do next before I start torching my Thunderbolt.
Thanks!

This happened to me, exactly as you've stated. I posted here but got no remedy. I tried all the things you've mentioned, reflashing the ROM, raeflashing the radio, etc. Nothing helped.
Finally, I had the idea to restore a recent backup from before I had the problem. THAT worked. I hope it helps you too.
I didn't have a chance to call during the day but I did head over to my friend's house who lives in a different area. She has VZW just as me and she was getting 3G on her blackberry but 3G/mobile data was still unavailable for me.
It's not a coverage issue but on my end.
While lurking around the mobile data settings, there was a profile for VZW under APN settings. Could someone post theirs so I could see if they match with mine? Maybe that's the solution to my problem?
I don't think it's rom dependent. I lost 4g the other day and I have yet to get it back. I have my own theories but the jerk at the VZW store wouldn't let me try my theory. I'm waiting for my usual rep to comeback, she lets me try just about anything I want. The rest are just dicks. I have tried swapping roms, radios, and all but going back stock to fix it. And nothing has brought it back. BTW, have you tried CDMA prl to see if you can get data at all? I can get 3g that way, but when I go into evdo/lte or lte only I lost all data. Also, do you have it in rev A mode under your modem settings?
I had this exact same problem with BAMF remix 1.6.3, to make this story short this is how it eventually got fixed:
Go into settings and do a check for new software.
This will force 3g to cut on. (Note: it may take a few times for the 3g to come on and STAY ON. It took me almost a day doing it about every hour.
Enjoy
Holy crap, that worked. Of all the things I tried and I couldn't get anything. Now LTE is back. You're awesome.

I have to go to work right now but yes it is turning on 3G at the moment but it's only using the up arrow (eg. uploading data but not downloading data). I"m guessing with a couple of more tries it'll eventually lock in.
If this doesn't work on gingerbread, I'll try reverting back to froyo and try it then as well.

Glad I could help.. I spent nearly two hours on the phone with Tier II support and they guy said.. well this is a long shot but try this. Didnt work the first time I tried it so he sent me a new phone but in the time it took to get the new phone, I kept trying and it finally locked in.
Ok, well I thought it worked. Every time I try it, it will give me the 4gLTE indicator, but if I open up anything that uses data it just says no mobile conectivity then after about 5-6 min it stops showing any data. Also, I can still go back to CDMA(PRL) and get 3g. It's just under 4GLTE/evdo and lte only.
BTW, for any other future reference, I started experiencing these issues right after I debloated (uninstalled) the blockbuster app.

It's alright, I have a replacement coming tuesday. I just have to return to stock before then.
When you guys went to the software update option, during that duration when it was enabled were both 3G arrows animated? I'm only getting an up arrow (uploading).
I've been trying now for hours on the PRL setting and also cdma+lte/evdo auto
Well, I haven't been able to get this to work. Is there anything else I should try besides the software update trick before returning my phone to stock and returning it to VZ?
i had the same problem as you OP, but after pressing check new enough times and jumping straight into the browser, i got it to stick. took at least 12 tries, however and i'll see if it lasts.
love the franklin avatar btw!
also, is anyone using juice defender? idk if its coincidence or not, but i d/l the program last night and this is the first data connectivity problem i've had with the tbolt.
Yes, I had both arrows. But, for some reason when I would open the browser to google it wouldn't work. I tried about 4 times, each time it would show data, but I wouldn't have a connection. Also, it would show data being up and down stream, but I couldn't manage to get it to work when I tried it.

[Q] have you gotten random restarts?

I've had the phone for 5 days, and I've gotten about 5 restarts.
It happens when I'm doing something. Playing with ring tones, playing a poker game app...
Just wondering if it's happened to anyone else, and if it's hardware or software related.
EDIT: 9/29/2011
I've had the phone for about 2 weeks now. The past week, I've not had any restarts. Don't know what's changed. I think there was an OTA update about last week. I"ve been using it as much as I had been - web browser, angry birds, email, etc...
Oh, about last week I also re-seated the battery. Don't know if that does anything, since the battery seem like it was seated fine. But someone recommended it. Could just be a fluke.
So, one way or another, the random restarts seem to have solved itself.
Me also
Had mine for about a week and has rebooted at least 5 times. Phone seems to hang and then rebooted.
I am coming from an EVO which never had these problems. Thought about trying a Samsung or another Photon
Yea, just yesterday when I was using my flashlight app for a few minutes. It has mostly happened when I used the led flash as a flashlight. It doesn't matter which app I use, it just restarts sometimes.
And also when I was playing a game today.

None for me after 3 weeks.
My EVO 3D used to do it once in a while when it would lose a signal.
Those who don't have random restarts hardly at all...are you installing apps and using the phone fairly heavily?
I'm wondering if this is a hardware of software issue.
Try re-seating your battery and make sure the back is on good.I was having the restart issue and it ended up being that the rep that initially started the phone up didn't put the battery door on correctly.

Exactly. I've only had one random restart, after the OTA, but I chalk it up to the heat wave where I was working. Poor Mo-Pho got up to 119 degrees.
I would also suggest a factory reset and wipe of the internal SD, a lot of times the testing of each phone before they're put in the box can cause issues.

no problems here. love this phone!
Me I am facing this issue since I got the phone I am at that point of replace the unit or order other phone!
What do you think?
I am really so pissed how is that you see only good comments on this phone and no body mention this known issue on thos youtubbie crappy videos...
I cant believe that I paid good money for this phone and I am not the only one with the issue. Sad thing no body know if this is HW or Sorftware!
I have no problem fixing the software... we really need the hackers spending some time debugging this issue.

Ive had my phone for about a month, probably had 7 or 8 restarts total since I got it, two in one day during the first week but it seems better after the second OTA update. For the past two weeks I've only had two restarts. Each time it restarted I was playing angry birds and had let the phone got to sleep while in the middle of playing. When I woke it up it restarted. Sounds software related to me. Im rooted but not unlocked. I love this phone!
I get over 1 a day. Its sad. Def gonna get a replacement when I get the time

I get atleast one a day. I don't notice because at home I set my phone down a lot. It gets worse when im on the phone surfing the web. Then it seems to do it more often. Yesterday it rebooted three times in one hour. It gets annoying but im past my 30 days to return plus Sprint doesn't have any other phone that interests me.
Sent from my Photon.
I have the reboot issue, but I have narrowed it down. DEVS TAKE A LOOK!!
So far I can get a 100% repro of this issue if
1. I am on WIFI for DATA and make or receive a call.
2. then leave WIFI area and attempt to call out, TXT or use 3G data.
3. phone will reboot every time when that occurs.
60% repro of reboot issue with the fallowing.
1. make or receive call with WIFI on but not attached to network.
2. go into WIFI range of a known(not new!) WIFI hotspot and phone attaches to WIFI on it's own.(this will sometimes cause the WIFI, 3G, and phone signal to all appear in the task bar at the same time)
3. make a phone call, txt or turn off WIFI then attempt to use 3G data and phone will reboot.
Also this is VERY IMPORTANT!! The conditions above will not cause the reboot on it's own. If you have data updates off or leave WIFI off all day then you might never see this. Also VERY important if you receive a call when attached to WIFI and then use your phone for data only you will not get the reboot right away it may take upto 30-40 min. Also important, if you attempt to do either repro above via making a phone call you will see the dialer get stuck at "connecting" in the upper left hand side, but it will never go to "connected" and hitting anything on the dialer or the back button will not help only home, but you will notice nothing on the phone will work anymore. This will ultimately lead to a reboot!
Here is the problem as I have trouble shot the living crap out of this and it seem that either the voice/3G radio is locking up or the dialer is crapping out.
Also on a side note that when the dialer is stuck on "connecting" if you force stop the dialer it does nothing, but if you force stop the "dialer storage" it will kill the dialer, but you will still get a reboot at some point after that.
So now we know where to look at for this issue. Can any of the devs look into this as I am not sure where to go from here, but this IS the problem everyone is seeing and can be hardware or software.

[Q] Incorrect Time

Ok, so I am on my second rezound. I returned the first one because it was boot looping. Now this one seems to mark the time incorrectly. Every time I just leave it there for a while it rolls back one hour. Like if its 6 it will say it's 5. Is this a network issue or is it the phone?

Are you in one of the locations that has issues with Time Zones like Arizona or Indiana? Try unchecking automatic time. If all else fails, return this phone too.
Mine also did this at first but I wasn't worried much because I wear a watch. Few days later and it works fine. Maybe I messd with something but I dont really know.

[Q] Setting the time zone

Anyone else being asked to set the time zone on your evolte?
It asks me at least once a day. I'm wondering if it is the airave
tha'ts making it happen? When it asks me to pick the current
I am stock, rooted with unlocked bootloader.
I've seen this happen on mine.. It's not as annoying now though.. I am not sure what the fix is just yet. If that is the minor bug I have to deal with then I ain't complaining about it. Especially after all the rebooting the phone was doing.
It started happening for me. I'm stock and not rooted. I started disabling a few built-in HTC and Sprint apps and this started popping up in my notifications. Sometimes I'll see it a few times a day and others it will go away for a few days.
I do have location services turned on.
it asks me like 4-5 times a day! so annoying!!
Having the same issue with my EVO..very frustrating. I have noticed that the issue seems to happen when the phone is going in or out of roaming mode.
Sent from my EVO LTE using xda premium - without the LTE
According to Sprint, its a known issue, and seems to stem from phones coming off a Wifi connection. I don't know about roaming, thought that could be causing it too. It doesn't affect every phone, but they said it should be corrected in the next maintenance release.

Sweet! It's annoying, but as pointed out earlier in this thread, there are many more issues that are bigger problems than this one. I am thankful that this is all I'm experiencing!
I had this problem on my 3D while running a Sense 4.0 ROM. That leads me to believe it's more of a Sense 4.0 problem than anything else. My phone usually asks me to set my time zone when I'm leaving work.
yep, couple other threads on it as well, basically the fix is set the time zone manual, you won't see it again, hopefully they'll fix it in an update.
Now that you guys say that it does seem to happen when coming off WiFi or Roaming...
I get it about 5 times a day, on my old EVO LTE and the replacement EVO LTE. Bad luck!
Settings > Date & Time > (uncheck Automatic Time Zone)
Problem Solved!
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I maybe get it once a day on average, I just hit clear it's annoying. I'm sure they will fix it next OTA.
I tend to notice it more when leaving work or home and losing my WiFi connection. One important note also is that I keep GPS disabled 99% of the time so that might have something to do with it also.
Edit:
Yesterday it came on as soon as I left work and I ignored it in my status bar. As soon as I got home wi-fi connected and it went away on its own. This is certainly related to the phone having a solid known location. I am going to follow the above suggestion and disable automatic time zone setting because I only leave my time zone like once a year anyway.
I get this about once a week. I'm updating to the newest version of MeanROM today. I"m hoping that will fix it. Other people are saying it does.

[Q] Won't update apps unless on wifi

Here's the deal. I have recently been forced into getting this note 3 through insurance claim, have been nexus user forever and I must say I was peeved. Though I will admit that this phone does have its benefits as well. Anyways, when I first started using this phone I was pleased with the speeds in my new area (i have moved) on 4G. I have been more than dissatisfied with the internet here as it is appallingly slower than anything I can remember from the past of my life. Anywhoo, deal is that I have an unlimited plan and don't care if i run 4G all the time on my phone. For the first while I didn't get onto WiFi till one day at work, suddenly updates happened all over the place. I tested this a few times, and sure enough I am unable to update or even download certain apps from the play store without being on WIFI. I know this is hilarious, but my Clash of Clan mates sure were unimpressed when I couldn't join a war. So I have been researching all over and trying hard to figure out what I can do. Google Play is set up to download over both data and WiFi connections. My Samsung settings? Well I can't seem to find any settings that would make a difference on that. I have spent countless hours trying to figure this out without avail. I have been coming to this forum without posting forever it seems because you guys cover everything so well that usually I can search and find the answer without too many problems. Thank you in advance for your time and knowledge!

Well lets try the easy one first go to settings/general/system update make sure Wi-Fi only is not checked. If it is uncheck and restart device for change to take effect.
It was already set. Have restarted many times. Seems like it corrected it self the other day though. Seems strange. Random glitch maybe truly looking forward to rooting. Thanks for your help!

Ok, you said sometimes it corrected it's self. Here's what I would try, when it is running on 4g Lte and the WiFi is off, go to settings/general/update device click on update PRL and Profile. Then restart device, this should set your preference to 4g Lte. I assume you want the be in 4g Lte most of the time. Two more things to check go to settings/connections/more networks/mobile networks/network mode make sure LTE/CDMA is checked not Automatic. While you are there right below Network mode click on Connections optimizer then more information make sure that box in the upper right hand corner is NOT checked it will throw you in WiFi all the time.
Do you have power saving turned on? I think there is a setting in there that restricts updating of apps.
I have been fighting this issue on a Sprint Galaxy S6. I followed Jimzweb1's instructions and found that my network mode was set to automatic and not LTE/CDMA. Changed settings and rebooted and playstore updates on LTE now. Thanks Jimzweb1!
