is there an option to dim the capacitive buttons or turn them off when screen brightness is at 0%? or how about an app that could do that?
this was also a problem for me on the evo as I would read using the kindle app at night.

Yes there is way. You need an app to do so, and I believe it is available in the market. It is called Screen Filter.
very nice! thank you very much!

I wrote the dev of Screen Filter to see if he can implement a slider to adjust the capacitive buttons, rather than turning them off completely. I guess we'll see what happens...

I think the buttons on this phone are so much nicer than the track ball on the Hero. THAT was blinding in a dark room. lol

eh, I like the HTC flashlight app better for its simplicity and three step brightness. I found the apk from either the sensation or the EVO 3d, it works but you have to tap above and to the left of the button by about an inch. I don't know why that is but otherwise works fine.
its bc they are different screen resolutions i think
It's a sense 2.1 app, not completely compatable with 3.5.

Tesla has various options for different brightness and even strobe/etc.
I personally like this one.

I like that one too. And this one just as much:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.socialnmobile.hd.flashlight&feature=search_result
I like Tiny Flashlight because it has two screen lights, one white and one you can color how you like. But I like Color Flashlight HD because you can dim it but there's only one screen light so you have to change the color if you want it different. Although since it can be dimmed I might not care about color. I just want something low light that I can use to help me see menus in dark restaurants. Or else I guess I could start dating guys that aren't embarrassed to be seen with me. lol.
And I like the extras on both. Don't know when I would actually need or use them, but I like them. Especially the warning lights and the text.

I'm not sure if it's banding or light leakage but I have it. I noticed it last night after the store closed and I'm debating on exchanging it.

If what im seeing is what you are seeing then I cant really say that its noticeable at all for me (trust me im super super keen on these kinds of things) I dont see any light leakage which is good
I can definitely confirm now that when the menu bar is present with my capacitive buttons on, there's definitely light leaking over and I can see 3 areas where the light is overpowering the black.

so does anyone have any cool little DNA tricks that they found out? I just realized that you can pinch to zoom in the battery info graph built into sense now... so you can expand and see each hour or shorten it to get your full day view. pretty neat!

Me neither. Neat feature.
I have to say that I really am enjoying this latest version of Sense. It's a LOT less intrusive than past versions, and doesnt seem to have any major impacts on battery life.
It's like they took out all the crappy nonsense no one liked, allowed android to shine through where its better, and kept only the useful features of Sense. I like it.

For apps with long lists of items like music or messaging, you can scroll through by letter or date by using two fingers at once.
On the call screen before making a call. Press menu and you can open a fullscreen keypad for dialing
I know most probably know this but:
Once you fill up all 5 screens you can attempt to add another app or widget and it will populate a new blank screen for you. Also if you pinch to zoom at one of the home screens, it will give you an option at the top to add a panel (screen).
