Permanent root with temp root? - HTC EVO 3D

So now that the Teamwin guys have temporary root for us, will programs like z4, gingerbreak and all those guys be able to give us permanent root? I have a feeling this is a no due to the bootloader still being locked. I am no dev expert, but I just wanted some food for thought here.

Once fre3vo has been pushed to the phone and chmodded, why couldn't you just execute fre3vo in the startup/boot process?
Mike

Since this is temporary root, it won't stick if the phone is turned off, restarted etc. Actually, after some time the system rw restarts it self so su permissions will vanish randomly, from what I've been reading.

Will this process that they are offering to unlock the phone basically "root" my phone? I'm a little confused...Will it give me the capabilities to flash roms and do the things as if I rooted my phone with the processes and tutorials here on XDA?
No it won't only the bootloader no s off

I dont see any point in it. It gets nothing done.
Coffee and Hip-Hop!!!
Awe..that sucks..so I guess to really root my phone I will have to do it the other way then here. Ok. Thought it was going to be a super simple one click fix
If it's anything like rooting the Evo4g which I did as soon as it was available when it just released...it took so long and so much reading. That's the reason I haven't gotten around to doing it for my 3d yet >_<

to help clarify, the rooting process is two steps, same as the EVO 4G.
1) unlock the write protection on the internal memory, otherwise known as bootloader unlock or s-off
2) add root access to the device (Superuser.apk or su binary, etc)
there are currently two methods to unlock the write protection on the internal memory of the EVO 3D.
1) revolutionary.io which works on all hboot versions except the most recent. they unlock the write protection on all partitions in all modes.
2) htc official bootloader unlock which unlocks the write protection on some of the partitions in some of the modes.
personally, i've done the revolutionary method as some of the members are the same as unrevoked and the other members are also very helpful and intelligent. i do trust their work and they released their method before HTC so i didn't really have a choice at the time!
hope that helps clarify!

Does this mean we are not far away from unlocking the bootloader (by down grading hboot version)?

Got nothing to do with downgrading...
As explained, this is a TEMPORARY ROOT VIA ADB using exploit by Team Revolution... works for LOCKED & S-ON Devices..
If your EVO is UNLOCKED, I think it should become full root... can someone try this?

So rooting can't help with changing some system files(maybe CID?) to downgrade?
Does rooting give you complete authority to modify the OS files? Sorry if the questions are too nooby.
Just trying to see if it is possible to unlock & S-off without breaking the warranty.

well,, with the TEMPORARY ADB ROOT, you can access and modify system files... but i'm not an expert in this area...
need a wise old developer here to do it for us...
Hi, I have tried it with a Malaysian set HTC Evo. I'm not sure what you mean by unlock. Does it mean carrier unlock? Sorry if this is a noob question. So far after reboot, apps such as titanium backup still cannot gain root access so I guess permanent root is not achieved.

Hi, I hate to be a bother but my perm root got messed up and I needed the link to the ruu restores if anyone has it. I also was wondering if anyone else is having an issue where all of a sudden all apps are denied root access after perm root randomly? even with all of the settings correct. Thanks in advance!

Football provided these and are the RUUs for our phone. This one: RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_1.00.605.3_Radio_RS_0.93.00. 0914r_3161C1_9K_NV_8k_1.12_9k_1.83_V_APT_release_2 16261_signed is the latest version that your phone should have. But you should be able to just try perm root again instead of going through all of that mess.

pretty sure 1.02 not 1.00 is the latest RUU.

How unlock and root work on the Droid DNA.

If you have unlocked and rooted your DNA you may have noticed things are a bit different that you are probably used to.
In the past, unlocking gave root the ability to write to /system. That is no longer the case.
What does this mean? This means that things like pushing or removing files in adb while booted to android are no longer possible. You have to flash recovery, boot to it, and either mount system and do it there, or flash something.
This includes things like updating the su binary in SuperUser. You must now go get the file and do it yourself.
I have gotten several PMs about this, so I thought I would put it out here.
Please pass it around since most of you will be getting unlock soon.

When unlock is released, please write a example guide for steps to follow for normal root things (delete apps, give SU access to an app, do a backup, etc).
I like the sounds of that soon!!!

Because the phone is still S-On, which prevents any writing to system while booted.
I thought we are getting S-off soon from teamAndIRC?

Rooting Help

I followed zedomax's rooting video using the HTC unlock method. Although it seemed to work, I still have S on, and nothing is able to use superuser permission. The superuser app is there but, I am unable to update the root directory. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Have you installed a custom recovery yet?
You'll want to get that installed, make a full backup, and then try to root again.
For S-OFF, look up the wire trick.
Yes, I have custom recovery. I've tired the wire trick quite a lot and I can't manage to get it into the correct "brick" state. When you say to try rooting again, do you mean to flash super user zip. I've done this with like 5 different zips with no luck. Thanks again

If you are CDMA, I recommend you follow Ramjet's guide and get the full s-off.

Yeah, I want to do the wire trick but I need superuser permission and I don't know how to get it. I have the superuser app and I am unlocked but, I have no idea how I don't have superuser permission
