[Q] Questions about Galaxy Ace. - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hey guys im a Newbie here and Im thinking about buying Ace and thus would like to ask some questions about it first..
If I upgrade the firmware to the latest KPH 2.3.4 are there any problems in that firmware?
If I want to revert back to original Froyo then is it possible? If yes then where can i download the original Firmware?
Is 384 amount of Ram sufficient?I mean are there any lags or hiccups if many apps are running?
Is the 800Mhz CPU fast enough i mean is the UI snappy under it?
Are there any Custom ROMS available for Ace?If Yes which one is the fastest/snappiest?
That will be all
Thank You

The 2.3.4 update has small wifi bugs.
You could revert to 2.2 froyo with a flashtool and the firmware is provided in Samfirmware.com
The ram is good in froyo but in gingerbread there're appkills in background when you play games.
800mhz is quite snappy but if you're big on performance then you'll have to go for expensive phones like galaxy s or s2, nexus, or htc high-ends.
The development section of the phone is rather young so custom roms are not that far from stock firmware as yet, but the phone has potential. If you're looking for a medium-spec phone this may be a good choice.
Thank me if I helped in any way in your decision

Ohkay thanks for a early reply
So Froyo is lighter compared to Gingerbread?
And is Code.ROMv1 good rom?
What about Villian Rom?
are these faster compared to KPH?

Coderom is great mainly because of the darktremor app2sd support, extending the memory for app download. Villianrom is lightweight so I guess it should be faster than stock KPH..
I'll still prefer stock froyo if not for the app2sd support in coderom (am using that now)

[Q] Reasons to upgrade to a custom ROM

So what are the greatest reasons users upgrade their ROM to a custom one?
One reason that held me from flashing a custom ROM is that i use the camera a lot.
Should i upgrade to a 2.2??
Thanks!

You could always just try a 2.2 rom or two. If you dont like them, you can always go back to stock. You will get different opinions from everyone, so its best to experiment yourself.

Yea there are a few select 2.2 ROMs which have a fully functional camera. And like Patchy said you could always flash back if you aren't satisfied. I was a little hesitant at first to flash ROMs, but now I'm a flash junky =)
See for urself.
Play asphalt 5 or any 3D game on stock 2.1
See how much it lags
Upgrade to a 2.2 (wolbreak preferbally) or 2.3.3 rom
Play Asphalt 5
See how smooth it is.
Thats the difference

He seems yo be more reliant on his camera. Therefore, id personally recommend staying on stock and doing some mods to it.

why? wolfbreaks cam is fine..
2.1 sucks balls, I couldn't imagine going back to it, even fully optimized it is twice as slow as 2.2

I disagree. Wolfs cam might be fine but stock is definetly better, no question.
As far as speed, im on 2.1 and have been for a while now, with my own mods and cleanup there is absolutely no lag, and i find it just as fast and smooth as 2.2 roms right now. However, i dont play games, so there could be a difference there. Everything else tho, not much different.

Yeh the camera in 2.2 is a boo. Unless you live with vignette.
Speed up your rom then by deleting useless sytem apps\

You might also want to change the looks of the 2.1 ROM, which i find quite ugly

Yah also did all the enhancements including the JIT v2. fastest ive got on a quad is 760 and an mflops of 36.. i think ill just wait for the official 2.3..
offtopic: which is the fastest launcher? im currently using the Arc launcher..
i also want to mod it to an AOSP, but i dont want all the images of my contacts getting deleted..
LauncherPro works best for me.
Have you added these lines to your build.prop?
Code:
windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=26
persist.sys.use_dithering=1
First one makes scrolling smoother, 2nd helps with graphics (especially gradients, etc.) a bit
Installing an AOSP-looking theme shouldn't mess with your contacts if that's what you want...
I've been using a 2.2 rom since z started developing his free x10, but to be honest it's only because I can... once you root your phone it's a natural step. The major plus is ability to use flash

Thanks im going to add that!
No i meant like deleting all the bloatware.
Ive used just about every 2.2 rom available and my biggest concern was the camera, on 2.1 it worked nicely and I hadnt modded it. To be honest, I like the camera on wolfbreaks the best I think it takes great pictures and more consistant than my 2.1 was, almost no audio lag in the camcorder. Im currently using the pzafroyo http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033455 rom and its the best 2.2 IMO wolfbreaks a close second, everything works great, and it has the best camcorder near zero lag (need to change the heap size from 40 to 32 seems to help). To answer your question, IMO 2.2 is worth having for the speed, flash player, additional options, and of course theres some sweet 2.2 roms to choose from . Though my 2.1 is still silky smooth and works great too, benchmark 842, pzafroyo benchmark 2595 both feel smooth.
Upgrading to 2.2 will give you:
- speed boost
- more apps, for ex. Flash player
Rooting the phone also gives me the chance to try any custom rom... so I never get tired of the interface.
This is my opinion... you don't know what it tastes like until you try it.

Been using various 2.2.1 Custom ROM. Of those I like Wolfbreak 6.1.3 v64 the most. Since moving back to 2.1, I use the custom rom EWJET which in my opinion the best. At least I am more confident with the camera. The autofocus dont work with 2.2.1, hence I moved back to 2.1.

Gingerbread rom for my work P500?

Hi there. I just got a P500 from work and noticed it still has Froyo which i can not stand (even my old Milestone has Gingerbread thanks to Kaldaban and CM 7.1).
In my country (Argentina) there is still no official 2.3 update. What 2.3.x custom rom would you recommend that offers stability and battery life? (remember, it's my work phone, i can not f*ck it up!).
Thanks!

well, oxygen ROM is best gingerbread IMO
But, I still like devoid froyo final - it's most stable, bugfree, and best battery life
There are basically 3 main ones. CM, phoenix, and oxygen. IMO they are all good and just depends on ur taste.

[Q] What are the benefits from upgrading ?

my new Atrix came with 2.2 froyo dont laugh but i do love this stock rom more than the new gingerbread my friends just keep telling me to upgrade my phone and my question here is what is the benefits of upgrading other than the icons, themes , widgets ...ect thanks
More features, availability of ROMs, unlocking etc. Currently on neutrino gt... if you like froyo more than neutrino...please, go jump off the biggest building you can find...lol. its not possible
1. off all its the visual telephony option for me.
2. Froyo doesn't use the two cores. so, the speed isn't so good.
3. 2.3.6 has firefox 8 for the webdock. it's faster and better if you use it.
a lot more customizability and performance
Would you please link me some of the best custom roms thanks in advance .

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257574 2.3.7 very good, very stable, long batterylife, no webtop
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430608 2.3.6 with blur, very smooth, but its in the beginning of development, so it has some bugs

Its been a while but I seem to remember that Moto's Froyo on the Atrix was "optimized" for two cores, not sure exactly what they did to "optimize" it, but I would say that #2 on this list is not correct.
The biggest thing and the one reason you should ALWAYS upgrade is for security reasons, the new features are great, but with each new version come bugfixes and security enhancements and those you should not pass on.

Want views of ics users.....

as ics is released in india..so i am planning to update my s2 to ics....so pls share your experience with ics....(BATTERY LIFE,SMOOTHNESS,AND ANY OTHER BUGS).ALL OF YOUR OPINIONS WILL BE VERY PRECIOUS FOR ME......
Go ahead. I've got the i9100 international version and using the XWLPF firmware, honestly theres no reason not to move on from gingerbread now, (unless you love plants vs zombies , as some games have issues, but except for that one, I've not had any others play up).
Now the XWLPG firmware is out so it'll only get better again. The ICS framework allows for use of newer launchers such as Apex which is a dream to use (and i highly recommend this over the stock touchwiz to do justice to ICS, [I was a big fan of touchwiz on GB but it just doesn't cut it for me on ICS])
I've had pretty much the same battery life also so no complaints there.
If benchmark scores are important to you, then you'll be pleased to learn that on Antutu ICS scores significantly higher than what it did on GB (for me atleast, scoring average 6100 - 6200 on GB to now 6300+ on ICS)

Re-read his very first paragraph.
Agree with Wezi.
If you are rooted, make Nandroid backup first, because I know the earlier ICS stock ROM's are less buttery smooth and stable than the much better (including much better than Gingerbread) later ICS stock ROM's.
Its best to flash the latest stock ROM with Odin if you're comfortable doing that.
The coolest thing so far for me, is Apex launcher (like Wezi said) and Chrome for Android web browser. It sync awesomely with the PC Chrome browser, bookmarks, history and all!
I recommend you take the jump, whether you have backup or not...but try to get root and backup via CWM if you can

Best kernel and rom for WT19i

Hi, what is the best rom & kernel for SE Live atm? Is anything better than stock ICS?
ICS is quite new, not much done yet.
And there is no best, one has some bugs, other has other bugs etc. One has that better, other has that better.
GB 2.3.4

You recommend using 2.3.4 GB original manufactures root and cwm. Is already a good size to over and underonver

I didn't say I recommend that.
I am at the moment using myself stock ICS and don't have any problems.
Ok, what is the frikin best ROM+kernel combination if i go more for performance than battery life!
I want to have most chances to get OC to 2 Ghz. I know some kernels cant always get max Mhz out of phones.
Also, what is faster, Gingerbread or ICS ROMs with kernel combination for this phone?
Phone is SE Live with walkman WT19i
And dont say to me its pointless to OC to 2Ghz, i know that.
I searched forums, and i found Real ICS + rage is best, but that was in may/june..
Someguyfromhell perhaps you shpould make your signature bigger and perhaps with a flashing light?
Only in the past month something like 20 posts (that's almost one a day) were opened on this pointless subject, and they all have the same answer, try and find for yourself since everybody's needs are different. Each rom has its plus and minuses, if it weren't so there would only be one rom.
G.B is faster and smoother than ics since it's lighter and it's the os these phones were designed to run on

Gingerbread is mostly faster and stable and even if you could overclock to 2 ghz, your phone will only enjoy the 5 minutes it's soo fast before you will have to bring it to service center because of a burned cpu
