Ok, I have been reading on this forum since april and I have no clue on how or what to do to flash my phone. I want to put a new 2.3 rom on it but I don't know where to start. I see people say you need odin and other programs, but i don't know how to use them. i don't want my phone to wind up bricked. can anyone help?
ok why dont you take a look at ths forum
but first you need to root
then you need to have the rom on your phone
then you just flash via cwm
ok, if I root my phone using odin, will i lose everything?? it says that i have to go back to a eclair version. I have apps that I don't want to lose data with. I am so confused.
what are you running?
a completely stock vibrant. I just used superclick and was able to root my phone, i am now using titanium backup and just backuped all my apps.
this is awesome!
so I cant get odin to see my phone, what do i do??
did you install drivers/?
drivers?? I am lost and feel like a idiot!
i know when i connected the phone to the computer it installed drivers and my pc can see my phone. do i need to have usb debugging on as well?
you have to be in download mode so odin can recognize it....
yeah i watched the video and did everything like he did, but it wont see my phone. i don't know why
make sure ur in debugging mode
power off phone
pull out battery
GRAB THIS STUFF : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper tar file in pit and the .pda file in pda in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
then follow this link on how to root from eclair:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
Eclair is 2.1
then after u root download rom manager and on that app will be a thing to flash clockwork recovery. Then flash clockwork and then ur ready to install a rom. That link i gave u will also help u flash a rom
Enjoy
WOW, I actually did it!!!!!!!!! I was a little afraid but now it is back to stock, and now i am adding the Simply Galaxy 2.8 Remix Final and it is loading up. Many thanks to you for your help. This is freaking awesome!!!!
ur very welcome! im glad i could help
congrats on your first rom

Thanks for any input
Can you get into Download Mode?
Were you running a lag-fix?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
i was running vodoo lag fix..no i cant get into download mode, only recovery mode
in recovery mode it says error, cannot find update.zip file.
Did you happen to dis-able the Voodoo lag-fix before flashing the stock ROM?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
no i did not, and now i do not know anything i can do..
That's a tough one, the maker of Bionix said you would greatly regret not disabling vodoo before flashing.. voodoo sounded like something I don't ever want to mess with for that reason alone, so I never will. sry I can't help, maybe download mode on odin and load fresh factory rom
im in download mode on the device and i have odin opened, how do i flash the stock rom now? also how do i get odin to find my device? thanks

To get odin to find your device in download mode you simply need the proper drivers installed. Be sure to plug in the device in download mode and let Windows detect the download interface properly before you run Odin. I'd also strongly advise you use Odin3 v1.3 (found in Dev section...also a link to this in the Vibrant Bible post) instead of Odin3 v1.0.
In the Bionix 1.3 thread, instructions for dealing with the "oops I forgot to deal with disabling Voodoo" screw up are in the first post, right after "Did You Flash Something Before Disabling Voodoo? Then This Fix is For You." It's a bit involved, but I've made this mistake myself last week (I misspelled the disable-lagfix of all things), and the method worked as advertised.
Best of luck!
learning how to use odin was a bit of a challenge, there's a really good youtube video.. this is the link- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnY7P14JSWQ -copy and paste in browser this guides you on how to get back to stock on odin, which is a great place to start fresh.. make sure you have the samsung drivers installed on your computer, helps computer recognize our android
SUPER IMPORTANT!! open odin 1st as administrator, then whith phone (off) hold both up and down volume keys and plug in usb while holding them
thanks everyone for the tips, i got back to the stock rom now. and even got a lesson in using odin to flash in the future
i tried to install a different unlock screen and my phone had a ton of force close i was able to get into download mode and odin open, it reads the phone but it gets stuck at setup connection for ever any ideas on how to bypass that so i can revert to stock

Im going to write up a tutorial on restoring a mesmerize to stock. You all know there isn't any ODIN files for the mesmerize at the current moment. However there is a work around that I figured out.
THIS WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU HAVE A CWM BACKUP!
I can make a stock one if need. I am not however 100% positive if you can use someone elses. Someone will need to clarify this.
Okay to get started you will need to obtain all the VZW ODIN files. I got all mine from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-844886.html
Odin: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/Odin Files/Odin3 v1.3.exe -This is program to use to flash.
Odin Restore file for system: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/Odin Files/Stock-i500-VZW-System.tar.md5 -----THIS IS FIRST.
Odin Restore file for kernel: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/Odin Files/Stock-i500-VZW-Kernel.tar.md5 -----THIS IS SECOND.
Odin Restore file for recovery: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/Odin Files/Stock-i500-VZW-Recovery.tar.md5 ----THIS IS THIRD.---this is just to be safe
Odin Clockwork recovery file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/CWMrecovery.tar ------THIS IS FOURTH ONE I FLASHED.

I want to thank the OP of that article because I would either have a bricked phone, or a fascinate at the current moment.
You can follow the steps on that post to get to the part where you can boot into CWM. After that all you have to do is restore you backup and flash the USCC kernel. I will however go over the steps in this post.
1. Install drivers from Samsung(in that link)
2. Download ODIN and all VZW ODIN files.(in the link)
3. Start ODIN and plug phone into computer via USB cable, then hold the volume down button this will take you into the "flashing" mode. There will be a big Triangle and a android construction worker.
4. Make sure the phone shows up in ODIN.
!!I did not use a PIT file and if you want to you can it is included in that link.
!! ALWAYS USE THE PDA BUTTON. ALWAYS! FOR ALL THESE FILES!
5. Flash Stock-i500-VZW-System.tar.md5 first. Phone will turn off enter "flash" mode same way by holding volume down.
6. Flash Stock-i500-VZW-Kernel.tar.md5. Phone will turn off enter "flash" mode same way by holding volume down.
7. Flash Stock-i500-VZW-Recovery.tar.md5. Phone will turn off enter "flash" mode same way by holding volume down.
8. Flash CWMrecovery.tar.
9. Download http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/Fascinate Files/update.zip and put at the root of your SDCARD, DO NOT RENAME.
10. Enter recovery mode via: VOLUME DOWN, VOLUME UP, and POWER and hold until SAMSUNG.
11. Select Apply update.zip in stock recovery. This will bring you into the CWM recovery.
12. Go to backup and restore, select with power button. Then select restore, choose your backup and select yes.
13. This will now restore your system.
14. Load up ODIN again and put your phone in "flash" mode.
15. Download USCC Kernel and load in PDA.(WILL INCLUDE LINK WHEN I GET HOME)
16. Flash.
Your phone is now back to your orginal rom!
I had to figure this out the hard way after flashing a bad rom that wiped out the recovery part of my phone. I had backups but no way of restoring them without CWM. Was about to cave in and just make it a fascinate but after I did so I wanted to try restoring my mesmerize files and reflashing kernel. It worked my phone is 100% back to normal. I can factory reset my phone and make a back up if that is possible for others to use my recovery files. Im not sure so I will not upload until someone clarifies.
Not sure if it is relevant, but I have restored to another users CWM backup on my HTC Desire with no issues.
Thx for this tutorial. I hope I never need it, but better safe than sorry...
thanks for the info. i have a fascinate that i messed up and as right now i can only get the construction guy or the pic of phone connecting with computer...the steps that you mentioned, will they work on fascinate? oh, i can also get to reset screen but i get "E: unable to mount sdcard" or something like this.
I'm in serious need of a Stock Restore of some type. RUU would be nice as I'm not familiar with ADB that much. Can someone point a noob in the right direction?
There is a thread on restoring the fascinate with ODIN. On first page I believe.
You can use this method or there are ODIN files now out so you could just use odin to resotre to stock. I can post them when I get home.

OOPS! I should have specified that I have a Mesmerize. I need a Mesmerize restore.
Yah I know I saw your US CELL logo on your post. Yes there are mesmerize odin files now, you can use my above method but it is a little moer dangerous using fascinate files. Thats more of a last resort no way to get mesmerize files. Like I said I can upload the mesmerize odin files and you can use odin to flash them. When i do upload them Ill explain how to.

thanks guys, please keep in mind I cannot bootup it just keeps restarting, I can get to I believe the recovery mode where you can select to install other zipped rom. I copied a new rom on my sd card in order to try and install a know good rom but it say no zip files found. Please keep in mind this is my first time doing such a task, so if you guys have any step by step instructiions I would be thankful.
cheers and once again thanks.
read bible , if vol up vol down + power button until u see recovery doesent work (push vol up vol down and power at the same time hold it all together until u see recovery menu ),m u have to odin back (phone off battery out , usb hooked up to phone and computer ,hold vol up vol down and put battery in u should now see yellow android guy , it mean u are ready to odin )
make sure u have 512 pit file , ifu goin to unbrick with 2.1 uvjfd from bible put uvjfd.zip file in pda , cliq repartition hit start , done
thanks guys I have to admit everything you gus wrote sounds good but it would be great if i realy understood. I'm totally useless when it come to this sort of thing. Qusetion, I copied axura rom that I know is working on my vibrant why does it not see the rom when I select sdcard
, I was thinking that if it did I can just reload the good rom and all would be well.
its the wrong place u put the rom , make sure the place you place it has 13gb free space which is root directory put the rom there all by it self just like that no folders and oh the file has to be in .zip format if u goin thru rom manager if u tryn with odin file u would need will be in .tar format
ok that makes sense only problem how would I gain access to the other drive.
best way to do it without nothing at all is copy to external sd go to files on your phone and copy over in to internal sd this is too easy and you should figure yer self
you're correct that is easy, but if the phone does not boot up and just keeps rebooting I cannot copy the file over to the correct drive. If there's another way please let me know.
thanks for your patience.
ok i need to leave the forums get drunk but u need to odin back there is now way u can get to storage witho ut bootin up the phone ,
im leavin so listen up
take battery out
leave your phone conected to usb
hold volume up volume down and put battery in while holding those two buttons
u see yellow android guy ?
dont turn off phone
open odin
unplug usb cable from computer
reconect usb cable to computer
see yellow port light up in odin ?
put pit file in first tab in odin (tab which says pit file )
put UVJFD file in to pda (find uvjfd in bible directory in forums here)
do hit repartition
pres start
let it do its woirk , unhook the phone once u see phones desktop
(if you want to ) copy your room from external sd to internal sd with file maager in phone
redownload rom manager
reinstall rom you tryed to install before .
the bible has all files u need
uvjfd.zip
512.pit
odin 1.7 v3

odin wipes everything including any lagfix so if it goes into download mode
pull battery to make sure its off, put it back in
use vol up and down and plug usb in with odin open (if it doesnt go first time try a different usb port)
power off phone
pull out battery
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
Thank you guys for your help.
Something is wrong here, I would say he didn't tell me the truth.
After flashing stock 2.1, I end up with a black screen after the big S logo.
Any thoughts what he may done to the phone? I asked him but he insist on the lagfix wich is obviously not that because I put pit 512 with repartition ticked and didn't work.
could try odin stock 2.2 and see if that works ?? (its rooted btw)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799105
or redownload the 2.1 file
U dont have to remove any lagfix becausr if u use odin to flash back to stock fw it will everything

Vibrant Stock Rom boots after I odin, wipes all the data and everything but then it freezes on a black screen right after the Galaxy S screen. The screen is black and the buttons are highlighted.
Any help is much appreciated.
Flash this in Odin after you disconnect every USB device, take battery out of phone for few minutes, reboot your computer, only plug your phone into a new USB slot.

I thought you only did that if you're running a working rom. Because I flashed this over a custom rom that soft bricked and it worked fine.....but to play it safe, you are right and it's even stated on his thread

My bad man, I forgot to add that It flashes the stock 2.2 froyo. I just cant use my internal sd card. So all i can do is use wifi, service features, but cannot download apps and other stuff like that. The build number: Froyo.UVJK2 is the one it works almost as usual.
So far I have tried to format the sd card and even restore factory reset but nothing has worked.

Am I supposed to Odin that?
