thanks guys, please keep in mind I cannot bootup it just keeps restarting, I can get to I believe the recovery mode where you can select to install other zipped rom. I copied a new rom on my sd card in order to try and install a know good rom but it say no zip files found. Please keep in mind this is my first time doing such a task, so if you guys have any step by step instructiions I would be thankful.
cheers and once again thanks.

read bible , if vol up vol down + power button until u see recovery doesent work (push vol up vol down and power at the same time hold it all together until u see recovery menu ),m u have to odin back (phone off battery out , usb hooked up to phone and computer ,hold vol up vol down and put battery in u should now see yellow android guy , it mean u are ready to odin )

make sure u have 512 pit file , ifu goin to unbrick with 2.1 uvjfd from bible put uvjfd.zip file in pda , cliq repartition hit start , done

thanks guys I have to admit everything you gus wrote sounds good but it would be great if i realy understood. I'm totally useless when it come to this sort of thing. Qusetion, I copied axura rom that I know is working on my vibrant why does it not see the rom when I select sdcard
, I was thinking that if it did I can just reload the good rom and all would be well.

its the wrong place u put the rom , make sure the place you place it has 13gb free space which is root directory put the rom there all by it self just like that no folders and oh the file has to be in .zip format if u goin thru rom manager if u tryn with odin file u would need will be in .tar format

ok that makes sense only problem how would I gain access to the other drive.

best way to do it without nothing at all is copy to external sd go to files on your phone and copy over in to internal sd this is too easy and you should figure yer self

you're correct that is easy, but if the phone does not boot up and just keeps rebooting I cannot copy the file over to the correct drive. If there's another way please let me know.
thanks for your patience.

ok i need to leave the forums get drunk but u need to odin back there is now way u can get to storage witho ut bootin up the phone ,
im leavin so listen up
take battery out
leave your phone conected to usb
hold volume up volume down and put battery in while holding those two buttons
u see yellow android guy ?
dont turn off phone
open odin
unplug usb cable from computer
reconect usb cable to computer
see yellow port light up in odin ?
put pit file in first tab in odin (tab which says pit file )
put UVJFD file in to pda (find uvjfd in bible directory in forums here)
do hit repartition
pres start
let it do its woirk , unhook the phone once u see phones desktop
(if you want to ) copy your room from external sd to internal sd with file maager in phone
redownload rom manager
reinstall rom you tryed to install before .
the bible has all files u need
uvjfd.zip
512.pit
odin 1.7 v3

[Q] Question and need help.

Hey Gang! I did some searching and couldn't find my answer so I need some help please. I have the Vibrant (tmo). I did the one click root and then installed Ginger clone final R2. All worked well but then I noticed I could not get back into Clockwork recovery to try another ROM. So... I found the thread explaining how to get back to factory firmware. I did that. Now when I try to Odin, Im no longer able to get the phone to the download screen. I was able to re root with the One Click Root and that worked but I still can not access Clockwork recover or the Download mode or anything to get a ROM on. I guess Im just not doing something or Im a noob idiot. That being said... call my an idiot and walk me through to fix this mess.
Thank you in advance
To get back to download mode try to
1.take off battery
2.run odin as administrator
3.plug in usb cable
4.hold the volume keys and while you are holding them plug back the battery

From any screen hold pwr button and vol up and vol down....keep holding untill you see the vibrant boot screen then release all at the same time. That will rake you to recovery if the reinstall pkgs option is there just click it. You may have to do this twice in order to get into clockwork recovery. Do this with the phone unplugged. hope this helps

First questions in question section. Second when on the blue screen go to reinstall packages that will take you to the green recovery screen. You may have to click reinstall a second time. Third the easiest way to download is to make sure your phone is off. Plug usb into phone only. Press and hold both volume buttons while still holding them plug other end of usb into computer.

The way I get to recovery is with the phone off I
1.hold down volume up and down also the power button
2.when you see the vibrant screen keep holding all thee
3.you will c the vibrant screen one more time when you do stop holding power but keep holding the volume keys
4.then hit reinstall packages...you might have to hit it more than once

I did notice that when I reverted back to factory, It actually was not the firmware I had before all this. I had JI6 and when I did the revert it was JE8. Im lost. LOL

OK.... I downloaded terminal. Then reboot download. That worked, so I loaded up Odin, loaded the files and it failed. Then I just rebooted the phone and now I have a black screen with an icon in the middle of a cellphone and computer with an orange explaination mark in between them. Am I hosed?

Easiest way, after you have odin'd back to stock and rooted your phone.
Download the app Rom Manager for the market.
The first thing you need to do once Rom Manger is installed is copy the rom you want to flash to your internal SD card.
Then Start Rom Manger.
The first time you use Rom Manager is select the top menu item "Flash ColockworkMod Recover" and select your phone in this case I am assuming "Samsung Vibrant"
After the flash completes select "Install Rom from SD card".
It is fairly self explanatory from there.
Good luck.
Ok first, as stated before questions go in QA section no development.
to access CWM Recovery you may have to keep the update.zip file in internal SD card root
Odin is different
power off the phone, pressing volume up+down at the same time (don't touch power or you will keep going into recovery) until you get on download mode. (different than recovery).
Plug USB, ready to odin
When ODIN back to original, be SURE to check Re Partition and load the pit and phone files.

Thank you Dave! I was using Rom Manager with failed attempt, however Im game for another try. As soon as I get back to stock, I will give it another go. Cross your digits!
I do not know why this is so difficult now. I got back to an unwanted factory rom. I rooted the phone, put the new rom on the internal mem card. Downloaded Rom Manager. Installed Clockwork. Selected Install ROM from sdcard. Selected the rom and it rebooted to the original recovery (blue and yellow). No signs of Clockwork recovery (green). Now I have a rooted phone with an umwanted fatory rom and can install any other rom on it.
This sounds like a problem I was having for awhile. After installing clockwork mod it would only reboot to the standard recovery screen. I had to install update.zip again from this screen several times and eventually it stopped asking me for this step and started to boot clockwork mod properly.

Just keep your CWM update.zip file in the root of the internal SD Card
Now if you installed Froyo leaked rom stock, and the Recovery now on top says 3einstead of 2e, then you need to fix that, look for the thread to convert 3e to 2e otherwise CWM won't work anymore. you need to be rooted and have root explorer or know how to use either adb or terminal

Well.... I have no idea what I did but it is now working. I tried everyones suggestions so Im unsure what did what. I want to thank everyone for their help and quick response's. I was actually expecting to get bashed about searching and being a noob etc. After seeing some of the other posts, Im surprised I didn't. Thanks again for making it easy to reply and explain what I was doing and what was going on. I have a new outlook about XDA.

Sounds like a case of odin and restarting. Pretty easy think the odin stuff is a sticky in the general portion of vibrant section. It's almost impossible to f up this phone beyond fixing.

you need winrar in order to open rar files. not sure if 7zip can do it, but it's worth a try (seeing as it's free and all).

Your gonna need ODIN and eugenes froyo that doesnt brick
You will also need 512.pit and JFD.tar file .. you can get these via the Bible sticky ..eugenes froyo is on his site..
Try to see if you can get into Download Mode:
Pull everything out ..battery, sim, scdard
Open ODIN and leave it on your PC
Plug the USB cable into the PC
Put the battery back in
Hold down on both of the volume buttons
Plug the usb into your phone...keep holding the buttons
It should go into D/L mode....we hope..
If it gets that far..make sure you see a yellow COM port in ODIN
Not sure with eugenes froyo but 512.pit goes in the PIT line
eugenes froyo.tar goes in the PDA line
I think you may need Repartition checked in your case to get the filesystem back but if his site says not to then dont.
Hit start
This is not a daily driver ROM...just to allow you to re ODIN
If it works...again we hope... You need to go back into D/L mode
check for COM port
add the 512.pit & this time the JFD.tar to PDA
uncheck repartition and hit start
and hopefully you will get back to stock 2.1
one question did you repartiton your internal sd with rom manager or just voodoo it ?

Also not sure what version of odin you might be using. I used odin v1 and it wouldn't work for me after more looking around read that v1.7 was the one that would work. I think that one is in the q&a stickies says like root odin stuff like that. Also found that the pit that ended in 12 worked better than the one that ended in 13. Fact I also couldn't get 13 to work either.

dont use the odin that comes with this btw i know i didnt or i think i tried and it was dumb and wouldnt work.
http://www.mediafire.com/?cb8vpwob8hz6yxv
alright man so go step by step unpack the sammy drivers and open odin 1.7 then plug in your phone SHOULD find your phone after you get those drivers installed on your comp. any port will do when odin finds your phone.
put the 512 pit file in the pit spot (uncheck repartition if it is checked)
then put the tar file or what not in the tar spot and click start it SHOULD only take about 3-5 minutes depending think it took me less then two but everyone seems to have different times i guess.
When you are back to stock let it sit a minute or 5 reboot to work out whatever kinks it might have then find you a rom and flash. FOLLOW THE DEV INSTRUCTION ON WHATEVER ROM YOU PICK. hehe pm me if you still have problems, shouldnt though

[Q] help with first time installing rom!? please

i installed the root , the oclf, back up and done everything step by step but after downloading the auxura2313ve.zip and transferring it to my sd phone storage, i went in to Android system recovery and i reintsalled packages many times now,,,,,
the Last meassage in recovery mode is saying "Installing muti-CSC " and thats it ive let it sit in it for many minutes, and doessnt do any thing, should i let it sit for a longer time or something, because when i turn the it on normally it will not go further than the initial Vibrant display...
what should i do now please help!
For how long did you wait on the Vibrant boot screen? At first time it may required many minutes.. I remember mine took about 10/15 min the first time I rooted my phone.
Did you try another rom? Did u do a FULL wipe? In the worst case, you can reinstall your stock rom or restore your Nandroid backup, if you made it..
its been on the android recovery mode all night, and if i reinstall packages it goes to the vibrant logo screen and goes right back to the recovery mode, Ive waited hours, and will not do anything normally,, i just want to put my stock rom back on, how would i go about doing this? how do i put it in mass storage again?
in the android system recovery mode ive also tried to reboot the phone and when it does it wont go further than the initial vibrant logo screen , its stuck ,,
i was reading some other posts and ive also nver installed froyo or odin
If I were you I would odin back to stock and try again. You may have done something wrong by mistake. Just follow the guide stickied here and you should be fine. And just a fyi, you might want to take a look at trigger, between the big 3 it has been my favorite. Good luck!

im trying to use odin ( i have a 2.1 btw if dat helps any) and after putting it in download mode , Odin does not read my phone, i watched the video already i am unable to select a PIT and PDA
now it did read it but what PIT file do i choose i dont have any on this computer!?
where can i download a pti and a pda file
Do a search for Pit and tar. Also search Odin. That search should bring up all the information you will need as well as links for the files you need to download for your computer.
ok I found it here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013967&highlight=download+pit+file
ok great i got it done thanx everyone imma try again with trigger rom hope it works,,,
Last question, I backed up my files to titanium before i messed up on installing the rom , and then i used odin successfully and put the phone to stock do i have to back up my files again?
i was looking in my phone files and i do see the titanium backup but dont see the actual app.....
???????????????????????????? anyone
No, you don't need to backup your apps again.
Once you try again, please read my noob guide. I think it may help. If not, let me know.
If you can get into recovery mode just click delete all user data and u will reset and when you root again all your backups on titanium will be there.

Stock Rom gives me the black screen...

Vibrant Stock Rom boots after I odin, wipes all the data and everything but then it freezes on a black screen right after the Galaxy S screen. The screen is black and the buttons are highlighted.
Any help is much appreciated.

My bad man, I forgot to add that It flashes the stock 2.2 froyo. I just cant use my internal sd card. So all i can do is use wifi, service features, but cannot download apps and other stuff like that. The build number: Froyo.UVJK2 is the one it works almost as usual.
So far I have tried to format the sd card and even restore factory reset but nothing has worked.

No, I can't even reinstall packages on the 2e recovery.
Ok, download rom manager app, flash vibrant recovery, reboot into recovery, reinstall package.

Which kernel are you using? Settings, about, kernel. Just to make sure you flash the correct file.
It says that I don't have enough memory to download any apps.
Am I supposed to Odin that?
First tell me which kernel you have so I can tell you which file to use with Odin.

Is there anything else after the numbers for the kernel version?

[Q] How to flash my phone

Ok, I have been reading on this forum since april and I have no clue on how or what to do to flash my phone. I want to put a new 2.3 rom on it but I don't know where to start. I see people say you need odin and other programs, but i don't know how to use them. i don't want my phone to wind up bricked. can anyone help?
ok why dont you take a look at ths forum
but first you need to root
then you need to have the rom on your phone
then you just flash via cwm
ok, if I root my phone using odin, will i lose everything?? it says that i have to go back to a eclair version. I have apps that I don't want to lose data with. I am so confused.
what are you running?
a completely stock vibrant. I just used superclick and was able to root my phone, i am now using titanium backup and just backuped all my apps.
this is awesome!
so I cant get odin to see my phone, what do i do??
did you install drivers/?
drivers?? I am lost and feel like a idiot!
i know when i connected the phone to the computer it installed drivers and my pc can see my phone. do i need to have usb debugging on as well?
you have to be in download mode so odin can recognize it....
yeah i watched the video and did everything like he did, but it wont see my phone. i don't know why
make sure ur in debugging mode
power off phone
pull out battery
GRAB THIS STUFF : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper tar file in pit and the .pda file in pda in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
then follow this link on how to root from eclair:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
Eclair is 2.1
then after u root download rom manager and on that app will be a thing to flash clockwork recovery. Then flash clockwork and then ur ready to install a rom. That link i gave u will also help u flash a rom
Enjoy
