Hello everyone, I just had one quick question (I'm also very new to Android in general so I don't want to do anything to make my phone un-useable). Does Setcpu work with samsung fascinate root and clockwork mod? I heard some people say theres a seperate application to underclock and overclock the fascinate, but then again i do not think they knew what they were talking about. Is there a better program than setcpu?
Sorry if this has already been posted. I know its been posted in other forums for different phones, but didn't find one for the fascinate.

setcpu is the only and the best overclocking app. If u want to be able to overclock ur phone us have to flash jt1134s 1.2ghz voodoo kernel then use can use setcpu to overclock to 1.2ghz!
sent from my fascinate rooted and ocl'd to 1.2ghz with voodoo

SetCPU is the most popular one. You'll need root to even use SetCPU. And you'll need CWM to flash the OC Kernels. If you dont OC SetCPU is pointless
On that note.
SetCPU must be ran on conservative and with no profiles and no load on boot.
If you do reboot your phone, mine reverts back to 800, so I need to manually change it to 1200.
Do u have to set both min & Max to 1200???
no just the max

Not pointless. You can always underclock to spare your battery life

Yes, of course you are right. Actually the other day I forgot to slide sliders up from 800 to 1200 and I was getting really good battery life for like 2 hours my % only dropped 1% and I was like wow.
Im just pleased as punch that there are OC/UV kernels out, its the best of both worlds.
Actually my battery life is above average it seems; either that or my usage is below average so Im not draining it as much. I'd gladly mildly overvolt to something like 1350mV if it meant I'd be rock solid stable at say 1.4Ghz
BTW, jt I heard you might be getting out the kernel speed chase after these 1.2Ghz's? Just don't feel like chasing 1.3 or 1.4?
I am running Dirrk's D012 LV 1200 Kernel with SetCPU
Luckily, the LV runs EXTREMELY smooth on my phone..
So smooth, that for the past day now I have been able to run with "set on boot" and constant restarts on my phone..and with Profiles for Screen Off, Temp (probably wont get there), and Charging. I can say that I have had no problems with my profiles and set on boot. Then again, I don't want to contribute to hurting anyone's phone
Just thought I'd let everyone know how my phone (and potentially others) can seem to handle profiles and set on boot.

Install it, tell it to auto detect, set the max where you want, leave the min at 100, and then leave it alone.

I was hoping to get some help. I have installed jt's 1200 voodoo kernal, and I can't seem to get Setcpu to clock at 1200. It still says that the max is 800, however, on the slide it is only giving me the option to goto 528. Bellow are my facts, any help would be great!
Facts:
1. flashed jt's overclocked voodoo use clockwork, but did it through "install ROM from sd card". I am not sure if this is correct, but it seems to be running voodoo.
2. I have no idea how I need to have Setcpu set up.
I feel like I am blindfolded and I am trying to wack at a pinata.
thanks.
Edit: never mind...even a blind folded monkey hits the pinata every now and then
Hey I rooted my TBolt and I wanted to keep my batt life boosted as much as possible.
Currently I have setcpu ondemand and a profile to get the cpu at 256mhz when the screen is off.
What else can I do.
Thanks
As far as I know SetCPU isn't going to do anything for you.

yeah It works just fine for that profile.
Download and buy Titanium Backup Pro and use the app to freeze all the bloatware you don't want running. Stuff like Peep, Blockbuster, Bitbop, CityID, etc. I haven't rooted this one yet, but my old Dinc and DPro showed significant battery life gains when I froze these bloat apps that just seem to always be running. Backup Assistant is another culprit if you aren't using it.
I actually renamed the files using Root Explorer and moved to SD and backed up on my pc, so Titanium wasn't having to intervene all the time to keep them frozen.
I would suggest running Das BAMF Rom v 1.1. Since installing it I've noticed a nice increase in battery performance as well as a snappier phone.

Install a ROM that doesn't have all that bloat on it.
I renamed all of the bloatware apps to .bak and rebooted.
Alright, I searched and couldn't find any direct discussions about this - so I'm asking it here. Does using a home replacement app (i.e. Launcher Pro Plus) use a lot more battery life than just using the stock launcher? It means your phone is running an entire extra hungry app, so I assume it does. Does setting the replacement launcher as the default do anything in terms of what is running? Besides this, what can you do to minimize what extra battery drain there is?
From what I gather, a LOT of users are running some kind of home replacement, so I assume people have some good info. Thanks!
My battery life seems fine when I use ADW-EX or LPP. Customize your phone, use it like you want it then charge the hell out of it. Enjoy your phone...battery life disentangle last forever. Plus faux's kernel set on smartass is nice on any rom you use regardless if you use a home replacement launcher or not . I probably didn't answer your question...but just wanted to give some friendly advice.
Thanks for the tip! I'm actually about to finally root the phone. While I'd been using stock and happy with it, I never felt like I needed to, but now that I've found another home replacement that I love, I'm ready to jump in and start really setting her up. In just the 1 day I've been using LPP, it shows up pretty high in the battery usage, whereas that wasn't the case with the stock launcher, but it may be because I was fiddling with it all day to set it up. But I'm hoping setting CPU under/overclock will help optimize battery life. Between that and an extra battery I should be okay. I'll def check out the kernel, thx.
Do you recommend the Unlockr's method to root? Or the one in the resource thread in the development section?
The unlocker method worked super easy for me. And with your original question, set the home replacement app to default and restart your phone and use it for a few min then go to settings, undo the defaults set for it, and then click the stock launcher when you hit the home button. You'll have to wait a sec cuz it has to load up, which in my head makes it seem like it never really started running while your replacement launcher is always used/default.
Dunno if that helps, but I think it makes sense and is helpful, hence the sharing
Sent from my Orange Glacier MT4G using XDA App
That's a good point! I have noticed that, and it does make sense. When switching back to stock after using the replacement for a while, you DO have to wait for it to load. Hopefully that's an indication that it's not being active in the background.
And thanks for the advice on the Unlockr, that's where I went to root my MT3G, so I'll probably use them again for this one.

I'm not sure what method unlocker used but I recommend NOT using gfree just as a personal preference. Use the visionary method. It should be visionary r14 unless there's been an update.

Thanks, yeah I got Visionary and have temp-root, just have to finish it off now for perm-root.
This is a side-question - but now that I've got temp-root, I started fiddling around with setcpu, which I got when I had my rooted MT3G, and my max is 1024 MHz. Doesn't the MT4G go higher than that? Do you know how to enable the higher MHz?

You have to have a kernel that allows it to go higher, I'm like 95% sure about that, ha (brainfart). Try Faux123's kernels, I use them and love them, but dumfuq also has a really good one.
Sent from my Orange Glacier MT4G using XDA App
I can place another vote in favor of the unlocker method. Worked great and easy for me. The higher speeds do require a different kernel. Stock is only good for 1024Mhz... Faux kernels are great!
Sent from my Glacier running CM7
Using a different launcher shouldn't have any drastic impact on your battery life. Maybe if you're using something like SPD Shell 3D which has lots of graphical bells and whistles, but even then I don't think it'll be noticeably bad. (Me personally, I use Go Launcher EX and love it.)
The major sources of battery consumption are GPS and heavy screen use. Leaving WiFi or bluetooth on when not in use also wastes battery because your phone will be scanning for connections. If you're in an area with weak signal, your phone will spend more energy maintaining connectivity than it would in areas with strong signal. If after all those considerations you notice abnormal battery drain, you may have an app that's misbehaving.
If you're rooted and want even more battery savings, you can flash a new kernel that allows the processor to run at lower frequencies when the phone is idle. You can also flash an undervolted kernel, meaning it will perform the same functions but use less battery to do so (not all phones can tolerate this, but I've had no problems on mine). Faux123 has great kernels posted in development.

This needs some clarification. VISIONary is used to gain temproot and then to permroot once you've run a necessary script. In theunlockr's method, the script is the root.sh file; in the gfree method, gfree is the script. You use VISIONary for both methods (unless you have something else for the temproot and permroot). Gfree is widely considered the better of the two because it can do many more things than root.sh can.
Ok, so i was super excited to hear that we are finally able to overclock, been waiting to do this since i picked up this phone and put down my OG Evo.. anyways, i tried Dread 7us's app Overclock v1.0, and installed it, pulled up Setcpu and i can see but it doesnt stick.. i pull up quadrant and look at system information. the max freq is set at my desired freq (1809MHz) but the actual never goes above 1512MHz. i go back into Setcpu and it says the same thing, max is 1809 but it doesnt go over 1512.
so i thought it could be the rom, i was on Rejuv 1.5, so i switched to OMJ 1.1 and same thing. Then Overclock v1.1 came out and i tried that with no luck, doesnt stick.
Then MeanRom 1.0 came out, and my phone hasnt really liked this rom but i wanted to see how it would do with the OC built into the rom at 1.72GHz. I get it all set up and go into quadrant and check my settings and the same thing, it shows max at 1.7GHz but my actual never goes higher than 1.5, even my quadrant scores do not change
i dont think im the only one having issues, i have heard of a few others having issues with it sticking, and the ones who think it is and post up quadrant scores of 5000-5200, my phone is doing that without being OC'd..
i have rooted many phones and flashed 100's of times, but havent ran into this before. Anybody got any idea's as to why this may be happening or any ideas i can try to see if it will stick
thanks for the help guys
Just wondering where your checking the frequencies.

You stated that setcpu was used for verification. You have to use setcpu to set clock speed also. Dread7us' apk is kind of like setting the threshold max, so you can use a 3rd party app (setcpu) to OC. Hth.
Yes I know that.. and that's what I have done, but it does not stay. The max freq will say 1809 but the ACTUAL FREQ will never go above 1512 which is stock. This is what I'm trying to figure out and why

Here is a screenshot of what I saw when I opened Setcpu back up.
Sent from my Supercharged ELiTE
I had the same issue when I tried the OC... I checked in SetCPU, Quadrant, and System Monitor with the governor set to performance. Clock speed stayed at 1500MHz no matter what.
I uninstalled the OC APK and am just sticking with stock until we can get some proper kernels out. The stock speed is fast enough for everything I want to do realistically.
I had the same exact problem and run fresh rom. It would stick for normal use but as soon as I ran a benchmark it dropped to 1.5 again.
i had to install mine to internal memory. by default it went to phone. set it to internal you should be fine.

You got it! I just wouldnt even bother with setcpu right now its really not necessary. Technically many of its controls wont work at all because we dont have access to the system partition at all while booted meaning build.prop mods and many kernel tweaks are not accessable. Just w3ait till kernel source drops to start playing with that stuff. Its really not necessary anyway yet. This SOC is a hoss!!!!:good:
I installed SetCPU and it does work for controlling the CPU speed, but you obviously can't overclock. I originally wanted to use it to lower the speed when the display is off, but it was doing a great job on it's own and rarely went above 384MHz when it was just sitting, so I uninstalled it. The only thing I found that didn't work was the graph that shows the usage at each speed.
