I have 2 working titans, i was wondering if it would be possible to de-solder the memory chip off one and solder it into the other one where it has the empty space for ram, would this work? does anyone have a link to the high res photos of the board inside?
nevermind, upon taking apart one of mine and removing the shields i see no blank space for extra ram, i wonder what i was thinking of that i saw had an extra spot, it looks like theres no room under here
I will NEVER understand why a $600.00 retail phone that runs windows would not come with more RAM - it is the ONLY complaint I have with this device!! MAKES NO SENSE!!! How much MORE could it have costed to put a 128MB unit in there???? $10????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARARARGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
I think the issue is really just that the phone was late to market. The hardware was well within the standards for WM5 (for which it was apparently designed). By the time the phone actually made it to market, 128MB of memory was now the standard with the introduction of WM6. There are reasons other than cost to not just throw a ton of RAM into a device.

Ok, I am so sick of hearing this argument from consumers, who the majority of the time don't have a clue how marketing and the economy works. think about it...if you ran a multi-billion dollar company making these devices, would you throw all your cards on the table in one fell swoop? of course not!
these companies are not stupid...sure they could release a device tomorrow that had 2gigs of ram, an awesome video card, 800x600 res screen, 64gb built in storage, and still be the size of the xv8600 if not smaller...but that would kille the company and also violate market laws no doubt (like when microsoft released internet explorer for free back when netscape navigator cost $30 a month to use...
come on, these companies are in it for the long haul...if they released a deivce with those stats i just listed (and they could easily...think how small a 8gb transflash card is...you could have 128GB (notmb) of ram easily running on those things, but anyway, if they released that, guess what you, the consumer would want 6 months from now? A device that was twice as good, and had twice as much ram, and speed and space, etc...

THE BOTTOM LINE: We, the consumers, have a short memory, are very impatient, and want the next best thing no matter how good the current thing we have is. If they put 256mb in the Titan, your last post would have been...."WHY CANT THEY PUT IN 512MB?!?!?!!?" you see? So, these coampnies are making tons of money by dragging out the release of new technology process...I mean think about it...we have dual core 2.4ghz processors in the year 2001. It is SEVEN years later, and we are still selling dual core 2.4ghz computers for $1,500 and up. Sure, you can get a better deal by building your own but the average consumer doesnt know how to do that, so that lack of technical expertise, combined with slow technology drift, keeps these companies in the high profit margins. I mean by now, if we were all 100% tech-savvy we would be demanding (as a whole) 12-core computers, with 20ghz ciphs each core...it's just not gonna happen when these big conglomerates control the flow of technology.
One company kind of broke free of this, and did work on their own. Look up the RED 4K Camera. current professional cameras for filming are $2,000 and up and film 720x480pixels, well HD cameras ar emore expensive, $4000 and up for pro quality and they are 1920x1080 pixels, well the RED 4K Camera came out over 2 years ago and it can film in 3 to 4 times HD res @ 4000pixels. Of course since they are th eonly ones doing it they can charge $20,000 per camera when in reality the parts to make it cost about $500...but do you know how to make a video camera? do you know how to build a PDA? Do you know how to manufacture 64GB ram chips to put in your PDA? Are you a programmer and cna you make the firmware for your custom device? and the list goes on and on....this is why we PAY $600 for a device that costs them $50 to make. Get it?

I understand your arguments and mostly they are correct. But $30 bucks a month for Netscape Navigator? I can't remember that. I was surfing the net back in '94 on Netscape and I don't remember paying anything for it (apart from dialup charges - and that was even before IE existed) ****, does that show how old I am???

They did it with the Touch.....they must be able to do it with the mogul even if they revamp it a bit. we put a man on the moon recently so why not more ram in a phone.

well you cant be that old if you dont remember netscape sueing microsoft for anti-trust lawsuits for releasing free software into a market that undercut their $10-$30 netscape versions depending on which one you bought...(remember, netscape gold and all that lol, back in the early 90s (this is pre 1994) - that's just when yahoo finally came around. i mean i am only 26 and i remember having to use Mosaic web browser...the browser that eventually became Netscape Navigator...LINK #1 - Mosaic and this LINK #2 - Netscape - it talks all about the antitrust lawsuits, etc..
anyway, back on topic...double the ram didnt happen because of one word..."MONEY!" - you can make WAY more money as a company seeing how far and long you can push the customer.

This is the same idea why we don't have cars with fuel injectors that can run 70 miles to the gallon using standard gas. As long as demand is high enough on goods that are out there (i.e. old phones, old cars, and everything else) and people are willing to keep buying them with outmoded technology, there is no reason to sell the next great thing UNTIL someone else threatens to sell the same thing. Is there really any competition for HTC in the US markets? No. LG sux and runs an OS that looks like my mother-in-laws Razr. Samsung is ok, but doesn't have the utility and look of the vogue or titan.

Dude this is so true. They already have several engines that can get 50-100 mpg no problems. But why wold they bother when they can sell us hybrids which cost heaps more and don't get nearly as good mileage.
The latest is a 6 stroke engine that uses a standard four stroke motor and add two extra strokes per cycle using water! as the 'fuel'. The motor doesn't 'make' more power for nothing. This is not some fake 'perpetual motion machine' . The extra efficiency is achieved purely by getting more heat out of the same amount of fuel instead of throwing the heat out the tail pipe.

i dont get ppl with SUVs....i mean i live in Texas and i dont have an SUV or a truck...just a 4door sedan for me and my family. that's all i need, even with some dirt/rock roads when i go out into the country...a truck would actually be more bouncy and annoying to ride in. ive never liked SUVs for any purpose...but soccer moms for some reason think they need the Xterra or their husbands need Hummers to drive one or two kids to and from soccer practice...i dont get it. SUVs are pointless unless you work in construction.

The Titan was originally designed for WM5 yes, which is why the decision for 64 MB of ram was made. Then, however, they decided to throw WM6 on it and didn't even bother to give a damn that 64 MB of ram for WM6 is like running Windows XP with 256 MB of ram...it works, but just barely. Instead, as another poster pointed out, they figured that it would work to their advantage as people would enjoy WM6, but be disgruntled (as we all are) with such limited resources. This would lead us to buy yet another phone later on down the line with 128 MB of ram and WM6 (or now WM6.1).

It's glued toghether. You have to put it into oven to get it taken apart and later glue that thing back together. Yeah, thanks unibody design. Plus im not shure it uses microsd.

Radar is more of an entry level phone for Mango. 8 is usable.
As of now, I know its NAND not microSD so no upgrade of whatsover is possible.

Ok so I LOVE Windows Phone 7.5, the Radar, and Zune Music Pass. But who thought it would be a smart idea to give us only 8GB to store XBox Live Games, Unlimited Music, and all these rich apps? I would understand it if I could store music in the cloud like I can with pictures but after coming from Android with 16GB built in and a 32GB SD Card it feels like I am using a phone that was put on discount and sold to someone who didn't know any better (aka. iPhone 4 8GB).
Something has to be done about the issue with expandable memory on this OS or even with 16GB (let's not forget we have Movies on the Zune Market) it still leaves me feeling constrained. Even if we don't get expandable memory, witch I am fine with, give us 32GB and 64GB options on whatever will replace the Radar.
Love the phone but even with all the positive when I am already at 2GB left with less than a week of use I am starting to worry and wanting to return it because of this one set back.
Well I suppose you're big enough to read and think before you buy something
As un insightful as that was I knew the limit I just didnt think the impact would be this noticeable.

I've had a DVP with 8GB of storage for over a year and NEVER came close to filling her up. You don't need to store your entire music and video catalog on the device.
I thought the zune pass just lets you play music over the air and download 10 songs per month. Anyways, I think 8 gig is plenty for a phone, at least for me. + I think those limitations were the reason why it was bit cheaper. Usually it costs at least 450 for the phone without the contract.
i never understand why people would pay to download movie and watch on the phone? what happen to the 3k you spent on the home entertainment system.
8 gb is plenty for storing music and picture.
As a mp3 player it's pretty cramped. Obviously some can work within those boundaries. But especially if your music is stored in higher bitrates or lossless formats you are going to feel the pinch.
The fact is it's not designed to be an iPod. With Zune you have access to the entire Zune library all the time. The only music you need to store on the device are titles that Zune doesn't have, plus whatever you might need for offline listening (like on a plane).
Of course, that's asking people to completely change the way they think about "owning" and playing music. And it won't work for everyone. But that's the philosophy behind the design.

I agree, it's 2012, 8gb just doesn't cut it for the modern consumer anymore. I have a radar as my backup phone, since it was free. Now that my beloved HD2 has a broken digitizer, I'm using my radar. Nice phone, a lil small, but the 8 gigs is killing me, lol! Can't wait to fix my LEO and get back to more storage.
I just got this phone as well. And while I got it mainly for Xbox Live because i'm SUCH an achievement whore, I can't stand the fact it only has 8GB and NO SD EXPANSION. I mean Seriously? why the **** are we taking the iphone route here? It's kinda lame. The phone is nice but no SD Card Expansion is a Deal Breaker for me.
I have another Android Phone if I didn't have that one then I most defiantly would not have the radar.
I've had both a iPhone 4 with 8gb, and now the Radar. I have yet to come close to hitting the full amount of memory. The only problem I have seen when it came to limits, was an error in IE about my favorites, and not having enough space. But other then that, I'm content with my 8gb, and still have room for more music and movies.
Hopefully you can open up the phone and add a bigger SD card like the HD7. Only problem is, is that you'll risk voiding your warranty by opening the phone. I PERSONALLY DO NOT OWN THE RADAR SO I CAN'T TEST IT OUT.

8 GB is not enough for me as all of my music collection is MP3 320 kbps.
However, as soon as the Google Music player for WP7.5 is released, I will have lesser need for storing lots of MP3 on the phone.
I do love my HD2 with the 16 GB storage. 16 GB seems to be a good compromise between amount of storage needed and keeping price of a phone low.
8gb of storage is way too low. First is not even a full 8gb. Out of the box its something like 6.52gb. Then you install a couple app and games and you're only in the 5gb range. I downloaded my podcasts that keep me awake through the day and now I only have 2gb of data left for music. This was a poor decision on Microsoft's and the manufacturer's part.
After reviewing articles about the Radar, I decided to buy one. Now, I understood that the radar had 8GB of storage (btw, this is enough for me). But on my device it states 6.54GB Total Storage. Bit of noob question, What happened to the remaining 1.46 GB of storage?? Or is this normal?
Part of it is base 8 vs. base 10 math (1024 vs 1000) and the rest is allocated by the OS and OEM applications.

Sorry to be pedantic but it's base 2 (binary) vs base 10 (decimal).
2^10 = 1024
10^3 = 1000
Before I got my Radar, I had an HTC Trophy. The 8GB was just not cutting it, so I searched online and discovered that you could open it it up and replace the internal memory. The internal memory took form of a Micro-SD card. I replaced the stock 8GB with a 32GB. Restarted the phone and voila. It worked like a charm.
I'm hoping that this can be done on the Radar too, however there are a few of issues.
1. Unibody will make it quite painful to reach the internals.
2. Opening it up will void warranty.
3. A few on WPCentral forums have mentioned that the 2nd Gen WP Phones may have switched from internal flash memory to NAND memory?
I haven't heard it being done on the Radar. It might not be possible without de-soldering the flash chip.

I had the 8GB Nexus 7 and it sucked seeing it get discontinued with the 16GB getting sold for the same price... I have a feeling this will be a similar situation (if it happens anyway).
They'll have to do some serious optimising before they can fit a quad core in that can operate on max frequencies for more than 30 seconds, considering the few minutes it takes for the dual to throttle.
If they launch it in June/July I wouldn't care but for the love of god don't do it so soon! I just got mine last week!

The N10 passed through the FCC in August and was released in November. That's three months. So if it takes three months to go from "rumor" to the FCC and then another three to get in to people's hands that's six months. The N10 will have been on the market for 9+ months and at that point a refresh could be in order. There's like three different threads on Exynos Octa, N10 Rev2 and now this one. If anything new is released it's a while away so you guys can relax for a bit. If you see a newer Google 10" tablet hit the FCC, pass through Bluetooth certification, or show up in benchmark testing you can panic. But the N10's equipped with state-of-the-art components and it's highly unlikely there are any plans to replace it until the money spent on R&D and specific components for it are recouped. And anecdotally, by the traffic in this forum, it doesn't seem to be jumping off the shelves so spending more to release another high-end 10" tablet doesn't make a lot of sense. If it's not selling it's certainly not for lack of features or solid price/performance.
If they produce a faster Nexus 10, I hope that the people who paid a premium for the 32 gb version can get a cash-back sort of deal like what happened when Google and Asus upgraded the storage capacity for the Nexus 7. I'm pretty happy with my Nexus, but I still don't like the idea of losing money for not waiting.
Is this tablet worth the asking price? I currently returned my Nvidia Shield Tablet because the quality felt a little meh, and the screen kept showing distortion by pushing it.
Any thoughts and suggestions?
I would really like to stick to Android and this seems to be the closest to the quality of the Air 2.

not worth it for most people imho. lotsa problems if you check all the existing threads. somehow the majority in the threads, including me, are only getting 5-7 hours or screen time web browsing when the pro reviews show ~9hrs (videos are fine - 10hrs+), memory leaks needing daily reboots (which could be fixed by a patch), light bleed, removal of the ability to adjust the volumes without going into settings (you can only adjust the volume of what's being used at the time you press the volume button - ringer, alerts, media aren't expandable).
i still love mine for now, but i'd never tell anyone to buy one until google patches the software problems. the hardware is decent but far from premium. i'd say at $250 it's a good deal, $300 is fair, but at $400 there are other options.
i got it because i just got my hands on a old galaxy tab 8.9. i used to have one when they first came out and i loved the size. i have a note 8, but kinda not digging the size any more. i considered the 8.4, but the nexus at 8.9 - 4:3 is as tall as the 8.4 @ 16:10 and as wide as a 10.1 @ 16:10. for me it makes for better browsing and reading. some people prefer not having black bars in movies, but the size of the image will be the same on an 8.4 16:10 as it is on the 4:3 nexus.
also, the speakers are nice. i haven't had a tablet with sound this good since my archos 101t.

I have the 32gb Nexus 9. I bought an open box 16gb first but I donated that to my daughter and got the 32gb. Having said that I have noticed no build quality issues with either one of them. It looks good and feels very solid. I have owned many different devices and the Nexus 9 is built better than most. In order for me to use a 16gb device it has to have a microsd card slot.

I wish it was around 300$ for the 16 GB and 400 for the 32 and I'd totally be ok with that...but at 529.99 I might just get a video card at this point .
I really like the design of the nexus 9 and the look is very beautiful though! I'm sure most software problems will be patched but I expected lollipop to be a smoother transition.
I am in Toronto got the 32gig version, never regretted it.

I, too, wish the Nexus 9 was cheaper. Heck, I wish most things in life are cheaper.
With that said, I had my Nexus 9 16GB since almost day 1 (day 3 to be exact) and have been loving it. Unlike some people who have complained on the forum, I am fortunately among the Nexus 9 owners who never had a single problem.
You may be able to get a laptop at around $600 but it would be a crappy one and it would still be a laptop and not a tablet, which have very different functions. Some of the cons of a laptop being heavier, harder to just pick up and use, lack of touch screen... etc. If you DO for some reason want an "actual computer" for work, then no tablet is ideal for you.
I got the 16 GB also. Instead of forking over extra cash for additional 16 GB space I put the money towards a WiFi HD. All I need now is cifs support.
I'm thinking of Getting the 16 GB model, then using an OTG cable and putting a usb stick when ever i need to watch movies.
I'll just put minor TV Shows or Movies on the tablet that I watch on subway (although I watch mostly on my phone on subway).
Everyone bought the 16 GB version though LOL, I need to find one

The price is very Expensive. for the same price you can get a Samsung Tab S which has a superior Screen and the addition of microSD, also 3 GB ram.
This tab should have been 300 price for standard and 400 for 32 GB...also 680+ for LTE? I'm sorry but no LTE card is worth an additional 150$
Anyways I'm going to go pick one up today hopefully if I can find one.

Get one of these microSD card readers:

It is very small so it will not get in the way as bad as a OTG cable and usb drive.

You will need something like ESfile Explorer to see the device when you use it on your Nexus but it works perfectly.

That's no problem, to watch movies I usually use ES anyways since it also has root access.
i know with archos media player you can index just about any non-root folder, even networked shares (paid version, dunno about the free) and other media players shouldn't have any problems directly accessing a mounted drive.
i considered using my otg cables but i didn't want to lose the ability to charge and use an external drive if it ever came down to it. helluva lot cheaper thought, lol.
I was lucky enough to find an open box Nexus 9 32GB so I saved give or take about 75$. So I ended up paying 25$ extra or so for an extra 16 GB. Will open it when i get home.

dunno where you got it from, but amazon has the 32 for 429 and bb will price match. I got my 16gb for 350 plus tax new.

As you can see from my profile pic I'm from Canada, and Best Buy will only price match with the Canadian Amazon. Either way I came out about the same with the open box, the only downside is that it was opened but looking it over it's literally brand new.
Don't rule out Swappa. I bought a brand new, sealed 16GB Black Nexus 9 for $330 shipped/no tax, and went on online chat with Google Play Store to transfer ownership of the serial number to me.
Hope you enjoy it. I've made the decision to keep mine and let go of the note 8. Gonna miss using the s pen when taking recipe note while cooking. Lecture notes and a standard capacitive pen will make do until thet make a 9" note. I don't regret my purchase and like the 4:3 more than I thought I would.
I ended up returning it because it had a lot of screen bleed. I'm just going to wait and see what happens when the nvidia x1 comes out.
