I assume that you are using the stock rom version? If so, update it to the latest version through Kies. Newest updates include some bugfixes, specially with the screen and battery improvement.

for the camera problem, try logging in to the samsung apps app and see if there is a camera firmware on there.
many people have problems with the colours, dont know if there is a fix.
That's called color banding, kinda similar to this:
http://img.tapatalk.com/b4c17a64-3d72-bd9b.jpg
It's is a software issue that's caused by rendering images/textures in 16 bit mode, which doesn't look all that brilliant on the S2. Using 24 bit mode should resolve this, however not all applications run at this color mode.
There is no fix as far as I know apart from developers forcing their apps at 24 bit natively.
thanks

So i need to update my firmware to the 2.3.5 rom?
and after that, all my problems will be fixed?
I have a Pink Spot on my SGS2's Rear Camera.. :\
does anyone here know how to fix this?
Thanks In Advance
This has been a common problem with SGS2 Cameras. Almost all of us have that. Apparently all we can do is just wait for the official ICS update from Samsung and hopefully they'll fix that.
It does seem muuuuuch better for me in the new ICS roms
The pink spot is a known and common problem to all us SGS2 users.
There is no fix other than the fact of using effects such as Auto Contrast, White Balance and stuff like that.
It would not physically fix itself because it is a problem with the hardware and not the software. People who think ICS helped it is because the configuration of the camera quality changed, probably more white balance, so it is less obvious to be seen, but it is still physically there.
But the camera is still seen to be working. When I press the 'Back' button I can see what my camera sees, on my screen for a split second before the app is closed. Doesn't matter what Camera app I use. CameraZoomFX, HDR Camera+ and Pano etc. or just the regular Camera app or whatever. They've all got a black screen now. Taking a picture results in a proper picture being taken, but the 'view finder' is basically ruined. That is, I can't see anything out of the camera before I take the picture..
Coupled with the fact that I have the same problem as this guy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2y25_jYYCnA
(and by the looks of it, many others) the 'Black spot' I think I am going to take it back and get it fixed.. Does anyone know if they just fix the phone, or if they replace it for a new one?
The version I updated my Galaxy S 2, to was XXLQ6 Build XWLPT ICS 4.0.4. via USB Kies.
Has anyone else had this happen before?
Thanks a ton...
Hi I had the exact same problem but it happened to me when I installed a custom 4.0.4 ROM with a custom 4.0.3. Kernel. Exactly the same symptoms, it was solved by using a bug fix for the siyah kernel. But now there are many custom kernel's designed for 4.0.4. so its no longer an issue. If it was me I would ditch Kies and update myself using samfirmware. Its easy loads of guidance on here about it and try some different 4.0.4 specific kernels. All the best.

Can't believe it mate but you were totally right. It was just a Kernal error. Flashed Siyah's kernel and didn't expect it to work at all but 'BAM!' rebooted the phone and everything works totally fine. I hope this thread helps anyone else in the future who gets the same problem.
You're a damn life saver mate. I was having tons of issues with this darn thing. Now my wife can finally use her phone properly again !!
Added thanks.
No problem, happy to have helped.

I just installed the official 4.0.4 rom and I also had problems with the camera on the stock kernel. While I wasn't planning to flash a custom kernel yet, I decided to go ahead. I flash Siyah 4.1.5 and lo and behold! It was fixed. Plus all the extras of Siyah.
Thanks!
As a 61 year old NOOB happily playing with myS2 GT i1900 I had this same camera problem after using the official Samsung ICS upgrade. I have spent a very frustrating 3 weeks trying to solve this until I finally found your page. I still don't really understand what a kernel is but my camera works! Thank you so much-you've made an old man very happy.

Hi Zoot1

As you can see there are a lot of ppl upgrading the firmware due to the quality of low light pics, although not proven it helps the upgrade.
Thanks anyway
Updated everytime, included few days ago when I found that there is a new firmware. Looks like it's improving a bit the shooting in low light. Had no issue with the camera after upgrades btw.
Okay maybe I am worng..but I had read in some thread if you use some dialer nuber combination..you will get an option to upgrade your Camera Firmware..upgrading your firmware from there results in a broken camare..
Again as I said AFAIK..and my knowledge is extremely limited

That's what I've done
I have typed the magic code and I had a new update (the second since I have the phone), updated it and everything is okay so far. Need to take some pics later in low light to see if there is any improvement.
Cheers

Uhm, it's advised never to mess with the camera update option, even though it may work for you. Suddenly, you'll notice the camera stops working, and the only solution will be Samsung service center.
Don't say I didn't warn you.

So I guess we shouldn't use Kies or Ota to update android right? It's an update and the device can suddenly stopped later
Come on... It's an update, that's it's role. First time updated it two and half months ago and still no issue. And check the other threads, there are hundreds of people here and others on the Internet saying that they have updated it and no issue so far. You need to have really bad luck to mess the camera

I upgrade camera firmware with every new official ROM (JB doesn't work), but even you don't update it, the camera use the last firmware incorporated in the ROM, you can see it in the photo EXIF info. So it always uses the last firmware even w/o flashing it. :highfive:

Just saying. Many others have reported their camera firmware disappearing after a failed update. There's no way you can put it back yourself as the actual firmware that powers the camera isn't related to the /system folder, or any other folder that is replaced when switching ROMs.
Just because it has worked for you and a bunch of other people, doesn't mean it'll work for anyone.
Messing with the camera firmware isn't at all like messing with a ROM/kernel/recovery or modem. Those you can replace yourself.

Yup, about this you're totally right. When you update the camera is very important that nothing stop the process, like a phone call. When everything is done and ask for reboot, that's what you need to do, without being distracted by any app, email, call etc. If you're careful everything should be just fine.

Well, without answering directly to my inicial question vessk0 has done it, it has to be official JB doesnt work (because none is official )
About no leting nothing disturb the fw update just use a task manager and airplane mode. I agree with demlasjr its an update. Risky as allways but as a digital cam if you have the bad luck of something going wrong you have to service it, its a risk allways but without it no fixes for the products and no extra functions, you just have to know before if its worth the risk.

Exactly. I guess even the rooting is more risky than those small updates .but only if you have bad luck.

What isn't working for you that you need to look for an updated camera firmware?
Everything is working, but expecting better quality in low light.
What isn't working that people is rooting or flashing a phone ?
Hi,
I bought a S2 a month ago. The phone is rooted and I currently have a CM Rom (the official one for the i9100 - 10.1.3.i9100 - Android 4.2.2).
The camera always worked fine but after a while the front camera ceased working.
I can the front camera with no problem whatsoever but as soon as I try to use the front camera it does work, the app freezes and says: "The gallexy has stopped bla bla bla..."
I went and searched the web, lots of guys get this fixed by clearing the data/cache or whatever, but nothing has been working for me...
I tried a different ROM, making a totally clean install - but still nothing - I also have already tried a bunch of updates im the original CM Rom (RC, Stable and nightly) and I never get the camera to work nor does it work a single time...
Can you guys help me?
Thanks.
Install another free camera application like camera 360 and see if it is working with that or not?

Nope, only the custom app gives me that error. All other apps arent just able of providing an image - (Skype, Camera Zoom Fx etc..)

May be this thread will help you.

What a really old thread... but yeah, the apk provided there can be installed but when I open it forces close saying the app is crashed.
I've now went to 4.3.1 (latest version of CM) and updated the Gaaaps to the correct version... the problem is still there.
I see this problem on lots of different threads and lots of this people just seem to accept that they have no front camera anymore, lol...
...also been looking for a way to install Samsung Apps on my S2 but it seems to be impossible on a non-stock ROM.
Going all the way back to STOCK and them trying to do something about the camera firmware (trough Samsung Apps) and then going to CM again is something which I'm reticent to do, mostly because I don't even know if this is really a firmware problem...
Back to Stock...

So... I went all the way back to STOCK... I now can input the codes discussed on that thread
Cam FW Ver: SBEF02
Phone FW Ver: TBEC28
It looks like this module has a really bad reputation, still it bothers me... Most people on that post complain about pink dots, lag, shuttering etc... I'm only lacking on a front camera... The focus on the front camera was slow sometimes, yes. But most of the times I had no problem making a movie or taking a picture...
I had a front camera and now I dont...
WTF!?
Any insights and/or advise?
BTW I tested *#0*# (a so called LCD TEST appears) and went I try Front cam it says: "camera failed"...
I picked this phone over the front camera... I'm seriously mad.
When you go back to stock firmware did you wipe data after flashing using odin?

Yeah I did. I had access to the front camera on all roms: since stock and then into Cyanogen... When I upgraded to the latest version I also had no problem using the front cam but one day it just went dead.
I've already changed ROM/Kernel a bunch of times so I can pretty much rule out software (?)
I'm really not in the mood to go to Samsung and have all the trouble of losing my phone for a month (in the best case scenario) and having to unroot it and re-stock it again...
The front camera module is a really cheap part and my next step would be to open the damned phone and just retry to reassemble the module it self...
From there I'll order a new one (if I find that my current one is properly assembled and just malfunctioning)...
Am I going too fast? Is there any way to completely rule out a software issue?
Thanks
PS. I need to point out that the camera didn't stopped working "after a ROM change"... It actually stopped working DURING a rom (CM official nightly).
