[Q] Please help me! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i bought a samsung galaxy s2 today, i'm very happy, it's amazing !
But it has 1 problem that make me feel sad
The screen have problems with the colours, for example when i'm playing assasin creed, the places that are black, have some problems with the degradation, and it can be appreciated when i connect the cellphone to my notebook and, the blue light around the usb sign, has problem with the degradation i did some LCD test with the code *#0*# but everything it's ok!, oooh! and when i take some photos, these are ugly, not focus, not clear, horrible photos and the galaxy s2 of my sister take amazing photos but my new s2 not! please help me
The question is how can i fix this problems? the screen problem and the photos problem!
Sorry for my bad grammar i'm chilean person and i don't know everything about it.
Specting our answers, and THANKS YOU! because every problem that i had or have with my olds cellphones XDA! help me
Nicholas.

I assume that you are using the stock rom version? If so, update it to the latest version through Kies. Newest updates include some bugfixes, specially with the screen and battery improvement.

for the camera problem, try logging in to the samsung apps app and see if there is a camera firmware on there.
many people have problems with the colours, dont know if there is a fix.

That's called color banding, kinda similar to this:
http://img.tapatalk.com/b4c17a64-3d72-bd9b.jpg
It's is a software issue that's caused by rendering images/textures in 16 bit mode, which doesn't look all that brilliant on the S2. Using 24 bit mode should resolve this, however not all applications run at this color mode.
There is no fix as far as I know apart from developers forcing their apps at 24 bit natively.

thanks

[Q] [HELP FROM ALL DEVS.] Camera low-fps issue

Hello! This is a request to all the developers for Galaxy S II. You probably already know that some Galaxy S II suffer from the problem of low-fps (stuttering) with low-light conditions. That is resolved with the firmware of the camera of the Samsung I997 (Infuse 4G), but putting this firmware, the LED flash does not work anymore. You can change the firmware?
The firmware does help is the SIEG03. Camera firmwares topic here on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098834&page=110
Thank you in advance if can help.
Behind SGS2's Camera: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4686/samsung-galaxy-s-2-international-review-the-best-redefined/9
It would be great if some of devs look at this fw and changes what is problem so flash stop working
Indeed, i would be great +1
I sent a private message to Chainfire and email to Supercurio. I hope they meet!
Great thread! SC cameras are the ones that have low light framerate issue. If someone resolves the flash issue it will be great.
Is this the same thing as the low-light autofocus laggy thing?
I made a video at my friends birthday in a nightclub and it's crap! Had to delete it! Blurring and lagging every few seconds!
I know potatoman might do something about it but he's busy at uni now, I'm kinda surprised nobody has jumped on this issue. One of the big reasons I got the S2 was the camera...turns out it's not that good
Yes. Its that problem. And is laggy beacuse of some galaxy s2 camera modules have some bad firmware. The SIEGO3 fix the suttering in video but remove the led flash of the videos and we cant use it like assisted lamp for autofocus. If someone implement in the firmware, our problem is solved.
+1
It would be great! Thanks
Maybe someone who knows cyanogen can tell him to tell samsung to fix it. I mean he does work for them now

Maybe Samsung are aware of the framerate issue... they should be considering how many of us have this problem, but before they can release the firmware it proberly need to be tested ect so takes time.
Im using the infuse 4G firmware & more than happy to plod along with it, until a fix is released by either a Dev or Samsung.
I had a Galaxy S before i got the S2, so having no light in video isn't to much of a problem for me, the camera flash works which is more important, even without the pre focus light the camera still locks on 99% of the time in low light.
TBH that pre focus light of the orginal cam firmware was annoying as hell to some people, as it use to blind them before the flash kicked in lol.
Anyways im happy with having constant 30fps in either 720p or 1080p without any framerate problems.
The well-known dev's are unlikely to respond to PMs as they'd get hundreds\thousands a day, mostly from noobs, so unless they're from people they already know, I wouldn't expect a response. Plus a lot of them don't frequent XDA as it's turned into a noobfest where the "popular" devices are involved.
You could try posting over on the Cyanogen forums.
Steve (Cyanogen) is not likely to be in a position to "tell" Samsung to fix anything, and certainly not for a device that is as old as the SGS2 is now.
You could try logging a fault with Samsung themselves, they have been known to respond, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

The same for me! I don't feel a strong lack of flash, but can be useful with app. that use it like "Tiny Flashlight" etc.

Just a heads up that while I'd love to help with this, I don't experience the issue myself, so I wouldn't even be able to test if my fix would work or not. I'm also not comfortable with my code being flashed- my firmware modding capabilities are limited at best... and flashing a bad camera firmware can be irreversible.
Sorry guys, good luck finding someone else who can help though.

[Q] ICS upgrade questions

hi guys
couple of questions:
i have a XEUK firmware on 2.3.4 at the moment, unbranded, unlocked and rooted and phone notified me that there's an upgrade available:
- will the upgrade work via wireless from the about menu straight away or i need to go via kies?
- apps, contacts, photos and videos are gonna be deleted?
- root, will that stay or i will have to do it again?
- camera, is the white balance improved when using flash with ICS? right now colors act up with the flash, thats a known bug..
that being said, my phone runs great so i am wondering if is worth or not to upgrade, i dont care of having the very very latest release...
for who will answer these few questions, thanks in advance!
Gabrio
1. I believe you do need Kies, I wasn't able to update my phone without it.
2. No, however I strongly recommend you to backup the phone, just in case.
3. You will have to root again.
4. Not sure about this one, sorry.
Honestly, I was extremely disappointed after update because, although everything worked just fine, the phone became a little laggy and I wasn't able to change screen DPI (I bricked my phone twice as well).

No you didnt, unless you fixed it via JTAG.
Screwing up while flashing resulting in rom not booting isnt "bricking" unless you cant enter download mode or recovery.

Okay, I got a bootloop twice. The point is, it hasn't been very stable for me lately.
That too... Stable means the thing runs without any issues and Ics do run without issues, you fiddled with it than say thing is not stable is also wrong.

yay "bricked" is a wrong description and ics runs without issues.
a correction to "semibricked" would have been enough and ics isn't that great yet. Bit sluggish and very poor battery, even on cm9-aokp-aosp and cn,but the Devs is working hard to solve these "issues".

Thanks for answers everyone... At this point im not sure i will upgrade now.. I was really curious if they fixed the camer with flash white balance problem...
Anyone on ics up for a test? Just take a pic indoors with flash possibly in the evening or a bit of dark area..not pitch black of course, do colors look strange?.. As of now white balance looks really funny. With a quick photoshop fix looks good.. Agreed is just a phone but doesnt seem as so hard to fix..

Kill him?, stop over-reacting child. Simply correcting his misconception. Also yours.
There is no such thing as "semibricked", Its either bricked or it isnt, simple as that. Screwing up your flash which results in rom not booting as normal is not "bricked" or "semibricked". Its only bricked when it wont boot into rom, download or recovery and only option is hardware recovery like for example when you wipe/corrupt your bootloader.
i forgot to ask one thing... how is the battery with ICS? at the moment my phone does 1 full day with heavy usage and 2 days with moderate/medium usage...

Hi Zoot1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724124&page=51
As you can see there are a lot of ppl upgrading the firmware due to the quality of low light pics, although not proven it helps the upgrade.
Thanks anyway
Updated everytime, included few days ago when I found that there is a new firmware. Looks like it's improving a bit the shooting in low light. Had no issue with the camera after upgrades btw.
Okay maybe I am worng..but I had read in some thread if you use some dialer nuber combination..you will get an option to upgrade your Camera Firmware..upgrading your firmware from there results in a broken camare..
Again as I said AFAIK..and my knowledge is extremely limited

Uhm, it's advised never to mess with the camera update option, even though it may work for you. Suddenly, you'll notice the camera stops working, and the only solution will be Samsung service center.
Don't say I didn't warn you.

So I guess we shouldn't use Kies or Ota to update android right? It's an update and the device can suddenly stopped later
Come on... It's an update, that's it's role. First time updated it two and half months ago and still no issue. And check the other threads, there are hundreds of people here and others on the Internet saying that they have updated it and no issue so far. You need to have really bad luck to mess the camera

I upgrade camera firmware with every new official ROM (JB doesn't work), but even you don't update it, the camera use the last firmware incorporated in the ROM, you can see it in the photo EXIF info. So it always uses the last firmware even w/o flashing it. :highfive:

Just saying. Many others have reported their camera firmware disappearing after a failed update. There's no way you can put it back yourself as the actual firmware that powers the camera isn't related to the /system folder, or any other folder that is replaced when switching ROMs.
Just because it has worked for you and a bunch of other people, doesn't mean it'll work for anyone.
Messing with the camera firmware isn't at all like messing with a ROM/kernel/recovery or modem. Those you can replace yourself.

Yup, about this you're totally right. When you update the camera is very important that nothing stop the process, like a phone call. When everything is done and ask for reboot, that's what you need to do, without being distracted by any app, email, call etc. If you're careful everything should be just fine.

Well, without answering directly to my inicial question vessk0 has done it, it has to be official JB doesnt work (because none is official )
About no leting nothing disturb the fw update just use a task manager and airplane mode. I agree with demlasjr its an update. Risky as allways but as a digital cam if you have the bad luck of something going wrong you have to service it, its a risk allways but without it no fixes for the products and no extra functions, you just have to know before if its worth the risk.

[Q] Samsung Camera App Issues?

Hello, I've checked quite a few threads looking for someone with an issue close to mine, but I haven't found anything, so here I am, posting it.
Phone specs:
Model number: GT-I9100
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband Version: I9100UHLPF
Kernvel version: 3.0.15-I9100UHLPJ-CL35254 [email protected]#3
It's basically a stock ROM from my carrier, it's called Personal and it's from Argentina, a very ****ty ROM to be honest but I'm quite scared of rooting and flashing a new ROM to this phone due to previous experiences doing so with my HTC Sensation.
Every time I take a picture with the default camera app my Samsung Galaxy S2 comes with, it applies some kind of odd filter thing that basically kills the picture, it's like, it takes the picture with no issues whatsoever and then suddenly applies some kind of green olive layer on top of it, sometimes it covers the whole picture, sometimes there's none, and sometimes it covers half of it, give or take a few pixels. This does not happen with other camera apps, I downloaded Pudding Camera and it does not present those issues.
Now, even though this does not occur with other apps, I'm quite upset about it because I find this specific app to be very good at taking and setting up photographies for a mobile phone, and any help would be appreciated if it's a mere configuration issue, although I've already done configuration resets and nothing changes. It looks like an app issue more than a hardware issue but I'm not really sure.
Thanks for taking your time to read this.

I've used many custom ROMs, but I wanted to know if it was a hardware issue or not.
It seems that my s2 has issues taking pictures on the highest resolution which is 8m and it's 3264x2448, I can't fathom how this is happening since the camera is supposed to be 8 Megapixels so I can assume I was ripped off and given a camera that isn't 8MP.

Problem with camera flash

Hello everyone, a question to all owners of SCL-L01. It happened to me yesterday to take pictures with the flash of the camera and came out with a color tending to purple. I immediately thought of a hardware malfunction but with surprise also in that of my work colleague come out like that. It does not seem normal to me, does it happen to you anyway? Thank you very much you have been very kind! At this point I think my device is faulty. I do not think it depends on the rom, I've tried different but the problem remains.
This is what comes out to me!

It is not a matter of life or death, we would miss it, but the device is still under warranty and I would like to try to solve the problem.

If you got time it would be best if you flashed a ROM and checked if the problem still occurs , if you don't have time the easiest option is to tweak the white balance manually .
how are you with the Viper? If I have time I want to try to install this rom and see if the problem is solved.

Pretty good , but the camera is the same as most ROMs here , below average , going to test desalesouche's latest lineage to see if it's any better .

Audio recording sounds fine from around 25cm , will try to test it.
Install both the Viper and Lineage yesterday and unfortunately the problem remains! I do not know what to think, if a defect of my device or this model has this strange feature. However, it is safe to have a white balance and when set to automatic does not work well. I downloaded yesterday I said Footej that I will use in flash mode with balancing set to daylight and the camera stock for all other situations. If there is someone else with my same "problem" I would be happy to compare myself with it.
