MSL? - HTC EVO 3D

is it specfic to each phone or to your phone number?
my evo has looks like some stuck pixels when i watch 3D movies and i wanna exchange it
mahalo

yes, it is specific to each phone. Call Sprint and ask for it. They will give it to you. not sure what this has to do with having stuck pixels though

You won't be needing your msl# just to exchange the phone, nor will the # help fix it in any way.

Thanks I just wanted to know cause I already called and got my msl for my current EVO
Mahalo

Have they really loosened up on this? I remember calling for mine for my EVO before MSL reader was out and Sprint said no....I had to trick them into thinking I needed to reset my phone....
Sent from my 3VO

I have feeling that reps still aren't suppose to give out msl numbers. but they do so anyway so that you won't leave a negative response to the customer support questionnaire.

Just do temp root + MSL reader in the app market to get your MSL code

do you have phone insurance?
Oh duuuude...
you should definitely call t-mobile and tell them. they can lock the phone by tracking your IMEI or something, rendering the phone useless (that is, if the guy isn't a tech wizard). As for getting a new phone, if your insurance covers it, then you should ask them for one. I doubt it, though, because every time I wanted a replacement phone, I had to send them my old one.
they may not be able to locate your phone w/o the sim card in there. if you have the box with the imei or ssid number, that would be your best bet.
..
sure, by buying one...there is no way to get a replacement without insurance....and even with insurance you had to pay $130...

Anyway, tell your parents, and notify the school.

Without insurance, if you came to my store or called CARE we would be able to see how long it's been since you purchased your Vibrant. You would probably get a very minor discount, if any. You're pretty much close to buying one outright so it's best not to use any kind of early upgrade unless it's a good deal.
As for blocking an IMEI, I don't know why people continue to suggest this. I have never been able to call in an get a phone blacklisted or blocked after it's been stolen. Maybe they just don't like me or I'm calling the wrong people.
Some ideas for your next Android. On our store demos we either install Lookout or SmrtGuard. Lookout seems to be the better of the two apps because you can remote activate GPS and track the phone. However, with SmrtGuard you can setup SIM Guardian that will register your SIM and when someone inserts another into the phone the phone will send a text to a number you assign or an e-mail. You can also track with GPS by this app.
Again, I've never been able to get T-Mobile to track a phone for a customer just because of theft. It has to be a serious crime with the police involved.
I'm sorry to heard about your lost phone and I hope you can get a replacement.

your right, T-Mobile won't blacklist an IMEI. I don't think any North America carrier will.

T-Mobile doesn't track phones without a court order, and u wont get that unless you were robbed beaten up and probably almost killed.
Its the thieves phone now welcome to GSM.
130 deductible to get a replacement. Call assurion for that.
Happened to me, BTW. You're sol and nothing anyone else says here that is different has a chance of being true.
Tell assurion u lost it, cause for stolen phone they require a police report (no the cops will not try to find ur phone, either)...
Cdma carriers block esn. GSM carriers make more money. With phones being easily factory resettable you have to tether yourself to a GSM phone to avoid getting pwnd.

Ur SOL son. Next time watch ur stuff more closely. FYI there an app called Kor.im phone locator that will send u an email if ur another sim card is put into u r phone. The email will contain the new sim cards serial number which will help track down who has ur phone. That is if they don't reset the phone, erasing the app in the process.

Yes that word is offensive, even if using it towards a thief, it is still offensive. You don't have to be gay to take offense, you just have to have common sense. I don't like that word just as much as I don't like the N word.
I'm sure there are Android users from the LGBT community who use this forum, and they don't need to log on and see the F word.

That doesn't matter. The factory reset option in Android is too easy to get to, and too easy to perform. It isn't even password-protected. The 3 button method can be done 5 minutes after swiping the phone on the way to the local library to list it for sale on CraigsList.
The only way to make sure someone can't profit/benefit from stealing your phone is to not use a GSM carrier in the United States. Use a CDMA carrier.
The companies care more about their bottom line than what's right. I had this argument with Assurion and T-Mobile when my phone got stolen.
Even with a pattery lock on the phone, unless it's a hardware locked phone it only takes 5 seconds for them to completely wipe the phone clean, pop their SIM card in, and brag about the new phone they got for Christmas.
9/10 the phone ends up getting sold, though.
The carriers are more than able to blacklist the IMEIs, but without inter-carrier cooperation that is kind of useless.
So wait a minute. I can lose my vibrant, and I can report it lost and T-Mobile nor Assurion will block the IMEI? Someone on T-Mobile can find my phone, put in their SIM card, and T-Mobile will do nothing? They won't block the phone? They won't even call the person who is using my phone and kindly ask them to return it?
Well I don't really know why I'm asking, I already know the answer. I've lost a T-Mobile phone before, and they admited someone was using my phone, but they said they couldn't do anything about it for me, not even a courtesy call asking the finder to return it.
T-mobile has a record of every single sim card that has ever been placed into a phone. Even if you stick your sim card in there for 5 seconds, as long as it registers on the network, they keep the sim info documented.
It just shocks me, even at a customers request, that they wouldn't block the IMEI number on their own network.

[Q] Device Phone Number Location (MDN)

I am having an issue when I reboot my photon it will revert back to its original phone number. I was issued a number when I initially activated the device. I was still a verizon customer and was giving sprint the 30day trial. Since then I ported my number over to sprint and ditched verizion. Ever since I have discovered that my phone will revert back to its original number vice the one that sprint has registered to my ESN. I have to manually enter the MDN and MIN into the service programming menu after entering ##MYMSL# to make things work the way they should. Is there a config file somewhere that I can edit to remove my old MIN and MDN and make my current setting stick? I am on the current stock rom rooted and am very comfortable in a terminal window if that helps.
I had this happen with a motorola xprt. I had to take it to a tech center and they programmed in a different MDN. I dont know what else they did but after that I didnt have a problem. The tech said it is a known issue with motorola phones.

Basically this. Any Sprint store should be able to fix this. Make sure its a Sprint store that has repair abilities (Sprint notes this on their website store locator).
You probably can also fix this with CDMA workshop, but honestly, going to the Sprint store is easier I think.
Thanks for the replies. I will try out cdma workshop to see what is in there. If I can't figure out out I will head to the sprint store and have them take a look at it.
Is they a risk of data loss if I take it to a sprint store?

[Q] Can My phone still work? Flash/Root question

I just bought a evo 3d phone off of craigslist...biggest mistake ever. I bought it from this guy while at the sprint store. Once the lady verified it could be activated, I paid the guy and he bounced. The phone was activated, i went home and called someone. that person said I had the wrong phone number, and I checked my about phone and it has some phone number from a different state!
The phone functions and everything but I think it's working on some other guy's phone plan! I've tried talking to sprint and they have me listed as having an evo 4g with the correct MEID and everything. I worked with technical support on this issue and even did a factory reset, at which point the representative said that it must be a flashed or rooted phone and so they no longer can help me.
The thing is, this guy with teh phone number is in califand of course, when I ornia and I'm in maryland. He had his phone operational as recently as a few hours ago according to his friends (who i've contacted) so something happened recently that caused this phone to default back to this phone number some how. I've gone through and changed teh MDN and MSID number (per the sprint reps instructions) and when I do that I'm simply unable to make a phone call anywhere. When I do change my phone number to my correct number, I still have access to data but not to phone. and when i did the factory reset and went back to this cali dude's phone number i can now make phone calls...with his number...
What is going on? what else should i check/what to do? I thought when buying off of craigslist it was enough to make sure you can activate it...apparently not...

Sounds like either the phones is still activated under his account which this can happen.
Or the ESN is cloned I doubt it but you never know.
sounds like maybe the esn is cloned. it explains how i have the phone number of a guy in california magically all of a sudden... anything i can do about this? i dont think so...

That's why alot of folks flag the people who are trying to clone phones on xda some folks try to clone the evo 3d to work on boost mobile or other places.
It's also illegal to clone the ESN. If sprint activated it on your account and the number still pops up then it's cloned from what I have read and understand.
That's what sucks when people clone stuff messes up phones and then they rip folks off.
I would talk to sprint and see why it keeps doing that they may swap it out if you have TEP or if it's cloned they may look into it and call the owner.
I always buy my phones on EBAY due to buyer protection. If someone shafts you you will get your money back along with ebay steppin in to deal with the issue..
Did you have the Sprint employee activate the line? If they checked the ESN of the phone, they would have seen another line attached to it.
Does the hex and Dec in the about phone section match the physical numbers under the battery?
Let me know and I can maybe do further research on it...
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
And there is "no way" to determine if a phone is rooted according to Sprint.
I would personally take it to a service and repair location and have them take a look at it, if you don't have TEP they should still swap it for 35$. Or have an answer as to what's going on.

When they had you try a factory reset, was it via the phone OS (Home>Menu>Settings>SD & Storage>Factory Restet) or was it via the dial pad ##786#, edit, MSL/master subsidy lock? Have you had any luck, taken it to a repair store?

[Q] Moving Evo3d to Verizon

I am getting kicked off of Sprint's network because I moved out of service range. I was about 4 months into a 24mo contract when I moved, so I was not about to terminate that contract. I just now got the letter stating that my line is being disconnected.
I would like to keep my HTC Evo3D phone but move to a Verizon account. I have been searching to find out if this is possible and I have turned up many differing responses. I am hoping to get a definitive answer here. I have seen that it is NOT possible, and that it is illegal.
I have also seen that it IS possible, but I can't find any walkthroughs with the actual EVO3d that I can use.
Granted this phone isn't worth a whole lot anymore, but I can't go and spend $200-300 on another phone right now when I have a perfectly good one. Is anyone willing to give me an honest opinon on my problem?
The device can be flashed to Verizon, but you will probably have to do it yourself. Most contract providers don't do flashing.
phone: HTC EVO 3d flashed to cricket
H-Boot: Jbear 1.50
ROM: Dirty Unicorns
phone: HTC one v cricket
rooted and romed
ROM: provisions
I heard Verizon prepaied allows sprint esns. Dont know the truth behind it. Call and find out. Let us know what they say. But as far as flashing goes its easy to do. It's the esn that is the tricky part.

If your phone is being disconnected by sprint, then the esn is good as there is no outstanding balance on the account nor the phone has been stolen. Flashing is possible, but youll have to flash the phone manually and get a donor phone for the account to activate the other.

not exactly, you see the donor phone will be the one that will be activated, but you need a clean esn to flash the phone properly to another carrier otherwise, the phone will be flaged, once the phone is flashed, you just need to update the info of your account with the phone you wish to use and wala, its done and you have vzw service on a sprint phone.

[Q] Getting MSL for Sprint Galaxy Note 3

So i have tried numerous methods for getting my MSL. I have tried through Terminal Emulator, and I have tried by using Get My MSL, hitting ##DATA# entering 6 0's then trying Get My MSL again and no luck. Has anyone had any success getting their MSL for their Sprint Galaxy Note 3? IM guessing that its similar for a GS4 and getprop .ril.MSL just doesnt work on this device even tho my GN3 is Rooted.
I got mine by asking the sales rep at time of purchase for the activation code in case anything happens.
Lol yeahh lil late for that now xD.
Anyone have anything else other than just calling and asking for it straight up?
Just call Sprint and ask for it. Or ask for it on their online chat. You'll get thrown around to different people until someone finally knows what you're talking about and gives it to you. At least that's what I did.
Call tech support and tell them you're a developer.
First call, first person.

Activate a different phone online, then switch back to the Note 3. Your MSL should be listed in one if the steps.

I by no means am any kind of expert, if i had to guess maybe the MSL is stored differently now? looks like we will have to wait for a developer to figure this out. Even though you didn't have it activated through sprint, it might be worth the call to see if you can get it through them. Telling them you're a developer, or you need the activation code or you're trying to restore your phone and the phone asked for a 6 digit msl number. All have worked for me in the past.
