[Q] Accelerometer- CM7 - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On cm7 when I go to play games such as doodle jump and perform other tasks that use the accelerometer I notice there is a considerable lag in movement that makes the games unplayable. It is much more laggy and unresponsive than the accelerometer on UKB 2.1 and I was wondering why this is and if there is any way to calibrate the accelerometer to make it work better?

CM7 for the fascinate is still a WiP and in its very early alpha. It has been just over a week since we have had all of the sensors fully functioning so I would imagine your problems are stemming from this.
I could be completely wrong but just the state that CM7 is in I would not put it past that fact.

Yep, I'm experiencing the same thing as well, but as gkirby said, JT only got the sensors working a while ago so I'm sure it will be fixed with time, along with MMS. Also, calibration doesn't help.

Same issue here with the lag. It is a fast ROM and awesome job by the devs though. Be patient and we will all reap the benefits of the work

ROMs: SkinnyRev1 vs. CM7

For those of you who have used both of these outstanding ROMs on your MoPho, which one do you prefer and why?
Both are great ROMs. I am currently on cm7. I am really liking cm7. Its fast and battery life is outstanding. Downside to cm7 is you do need to edit build.prop to get youtube working. Also have to edit apn to get mms working. Fixes are easy to do though.

i agree with above. both are great and will wake up your photon like no other. when it was all said and done, i picked CM7 bc thats what i ran on my EVO and was just more comfortable with it. personal preference really. neither will let you down.
I'd personally go with skinnyrev1. But I've been running CM7 for a long time on my evo shift and got bored with it. But if you have never ran CM7 before on any of your devices then its worth a try. But for the photon I'd go with skinnyrev1.

can you please help, im running cm7 how do i do that?
I'm also running cm7, its a great, looks nice, and well its cm7 whats more to say
What advantages does CM7 have over Skinny?
Im using skinny with undelvolt and im fascinated... i wanna give a try to cm7 but when i flashed keep looping in boot animation...

Really? I haven't really seen anything other than the Alpha builds. Everything works? The Evo worked great (minus 4g, but I don't live in a 4g area anyway). I can only imagine how fast it is. My Photon runs only a little faster than my CM7 evo.
Which build are you guys running?
I am loving life on my CM7 ROM. Not a big fan of Motoblur, so wanted to try something new. To be honest though...this is my only ONLY ROM that I have tried so can't offer anything new to the conversation other than I have had few problems from it. On reboot, I get a single phone.apt error that once dismissed, doesn't bother me again. The MMS issue is NOT an issue on mine...I send and receive picturemail daily and have not had any issues with that. I wish the built in buttons for the zoom on the camera app worked, but they don't...yet. Have to use the apps slider to control zoom. The Wifi is qwerky at times. I sometimes have to FORGET a known network, turn off Wifi, turn it back on...then reenter login info's to get a reconnection on a previously working wifi accesspoint that I use...but...just a minor annoyance. Considering it is still technically in alpha...it is very usable and stable...I say go for it!

I havent had any issues with wifi, got work, home, parents home, and two friends houses in college station. 5 networks total. is it the same router that you are experiencing this trouble or is it the same across all routers?
but to anyone that is in question between the two, dont base ur selection off others, its gonna boil down to your preference. its gonna be 50/50 based on reviews. best thing you can do is flash one and play around with it, then make a backup, flash the second one and see if you like it better or not. Still make a backup of the second in case you want to move back again. Thats the great thing about Android, its your choice
since you have it narrowed down between just these two, youre in a good situation. alot better then flashin all day to see what you like the best.

I've been pretty happy with SkinnyRev1 as a daily driver. I'm currently on CM7 testing the new 1.3OC. My phone hates the 1.4 kernels for some reason and on CM7, even with the modfied APN mms is very sketchy. I can send just fine but when I receive a message, that message gets repeated over and over again every couple of hours (sometimes minutes) until I get sick of it and restore my Skinny nandroid.
I've had it happen with several versions of this alpha and cannot seem to get it to stop once it happens. Deleting the thread does nothing, I just get a notification a little later that I have a new message. I've even gone from several of the yay leaked sbfs straight to CM7, skipping skinny altogether and still have the same mms issue
Well I haven't tried skinny rom but cm7 is awesome very stable been my daily driver for about 2 weeks and love it. Very smooth and fast. I had cm7 on evo 4g and needed it on this. it's very customizable (real word?) U can change lockscreen add gestures change overall color and much much more I feel like a spokesman for cm LOL but seriously give it a try u wont b disappointed

If it helps my eventual goal after i finish some other projects would be cm7 with webtop. I might start work on it tonight actually. Ive been with cm since it started on the g1. Once kinks are worked out its definitely preferred. I made skinny because we didnt have any alternatives and my friend likes blur, lol.

Root + Gta 3 or Other Hardware intense games

Can anyone confirm that they have their phone rooted and the virtual touch buttons in graphically intensive games work fine on their rooted phones? (Like on Quicksense, Beastmod, FourthBar, Bulletproof)
My touch screen has issues but as soon as I reverted to a non rooted tmo 1.36.531.5 base it stop and worked fine! Its driving me crazy cause I cant return it and say its broken unless its broken on stock!

so what is the point of the thread?
Because for some reason its just my phone that does it... I just wanted to see if it was a common problem or if my phone is just weird. I could revert to stock, but I don't want to. I'd rather have a phone that worked right and was running a custom rom.
I did some more testing and its not the root, I think its the scripts that most of the custom roms have in them. Maybe this will help someone else but so far I seem to be the only one with this problem.
BTW, Thank you adslee for the confirmation!

Its interesting that it seems to only be a few devices or people that seem to be having issues with it. I think I've narrowed it down to either a common build.prop edit or one of the init.d scripts. I'll definitely post when I do figure out the culprit so if anyone else is having issue they can fix it too.

I actually think its been narrowed down to active apps running on your phone such as screen filter and widgetlocker.
While widgetlocker was enabled and running on my phone... My gta3 wouldn't respond accurately (sometimes not at all) to any touch screen actions. But after disabling and then rebooting - game worked perfect. Re enabled it and tested again... Had the same problems all over again.
I haven't experienced a problem with screen filter personally... But I did read that both apps can negatively affect the touch screen accuracy/capabilty.
Just thought I'd share that
{HTC Amaze 4G running QuikSense v3.0.0 w/ X kernel}
I have neither of those running on mine but still have the same issues with GTA3, NFL2012, and Age of Zombies
Well thanks to tmac, an uninstall of go locker solved my problem. Mike, all I can suggest is try one of the stock roms x has provided and see if you still have issues. I'll still do some testing but I think that solved it.

Cm9 or glitch 14 kernel

Running 6.1 build of ics, no issues at all with stock kernel but was wondering what you guys think of the glitch kernel paired with this rom? Should I make the plunge even though stock is working flawlessly or should I keep stock? I usually don't post questions and figure stuff out for myself but I want the community's opinion on it before I make up my mind. I know its ultimately my decision but any input positive or negative would be appreciated, if you are going to reply please post reasons and not just a yes or no response,
Thanks.

I'm running glitch b3 and...I definitely recommend it if you're into tweaking. Live OC makes a pretty big difference in performance to me.
I'd agree with sendan. You're not losing any functionality with glitch, only gaining features and performance.
Also, it's just a kernel, there's no harm in trying it out. If you don't like it, restore a backup or reflash the rom. It's not like you have anything to lose.
I like glitch too. A live oc around 114-116% and 13xx as max clock makes this phone run like a dream.

and thats why I posted what I did...glitch 13.1 runs great on mtd gb roms, but glitch 14b3 for ICS seems hit or miss on some devices. Im sure it will get better as development continues, until then sotck is probably the best bet for most.

Yeah I think 1200mhz is about the most my phone will handle, and that's with 100%oc so maybe if I tweak it to 115 or something I'd have to drop it down a notch. I just don't feel like dealing with a reboot fit right now

You could've just gone into recovery and erased your OC/voltage settings. Assuming you're using the glitch recovery, that is.

Every phone responds differently to OC, *especially* it seems, with the new LiveOC system in v14. I haven't seen any issues reported by people using v14 with completely stock settings, so I wouldn't call the kernel itself unstable, just the utilization of some of the features it includes. I also suspect that a lot of the people that report issues with glitch haven't read and/or taken the time to understand the LiveOC guide that is linked to in the glitch OP.

i agree...guess that i should of been more clear and said that most folks do not know how to properly setup v14 with nstools and can easily cause damage to the device...which is part of the reason i mention to stick with stock(if your not sure wth your doing lol). im currently running ths 6.1 with glitch 14 oc'd @ 1200mhz and undervolted -50 across the board, fiop/lagfree govenor and everything is working great.

So until it comes back I'm a little hesitant to play with uv. I know the basics, but still don't wanna play the boot loop game

Definitely agree that for most users the stock kernel is probably best, and it isn't really lacking any features the average user will miss. Except I thought I saw something about 6.1 not including voodoo sound? Not sure about others, but that's a must for me. Anyway, I'm personally running 110% liveOC with 1320mhz max with no undervolting and the phone feels really responsive a good part of the time. It's been good so far but I need to stress test it.

I can definitely see being hesitant with the undervolting, and especially with being able to adust ARM and INT voltages. As I understand it, you could certainly end up with a brick if things are pushed too far.

[Q] ANY CM9 touch issues in certain games

When playing games like Shadowgun, six guns, tank hero for example, the multitouch will work but it appears to read the second touch momentarily and cause the tank to stop in tank hero or looking around the will be effected making the game nearly impossible to play. Also, in some instances, the first touch will freeze if I introduce a second touch and will not clear until I either hit back or somewhere else on the screen.
Anyone else having this issue? I've tested ALL ICS roms except the new CNA...I've also tested the raindrop fix as well with no prevail.
Other than this issue ICS seems to be flawless on my device including videocam illusion giving me videocam at 640x480 front and back.
Thanks for any help
Update with CNA tested
Test on CNA and still experiencing the same issue
This has been a problem on every ics build so far on the photon. Problem is incorrect drivers/lack of source. I believe joker is changing some touch screen stuff right now.

CM7 vs. Eclipse 2.2

Help a noob out? I have a virgin DX2 - never rooted - freshly updated to 2.3.5 (was in the soak) - and I'm finally ready to root it and try out a ROM. I've been lurking here for a week or so reading & trying to learn all I can about the process - and I think I'm ready to give it a shot.
Obviously Step 1 is to SBF back to 2.3.4 so I can get rooted, but after that is where I'm running into some indecision. I can't decide if I want to go straight to CM7 from there - or follow the instructions to keep root, SBF back to 2.3.5 and install Eclipse 2.2.
I know both ROMs have their loyal followers and I'm sure either would be a big improvement over stock Blur... and I know it's easy enough to try BOTH of them once I get the hang of all this... but I'd still appreciate some advice about which to try first.
For those of you who've tried both, which do you prefer? What are the pros & cons of each?
Thanks!

I'm guessing you've seen this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632111
Seems to center around Eclipse and CM7 mostly. Eclipse can be a bit more polished in my estimation, mostly due to HDMI, FM radio, less buggy, you know, all the bells and whistles working. For the most part, either way you go you'll be fine.
Currently I have myself and my wife on CM7, we both like it. No real issues to speak of.
I personally perfer CM7RC1 its a solid daily driver very minor issues and I never get bored with it. Here's my overview of both ROMs.
CM7RC1
Pros:
Extremely Smooth.
Lots Of Mods/Tweaks.
Endless Customization.
Gingerbread 2.37
Theme Engine.
Wifi Tethering
Fully AOSP.
Toggles.
Cons:
HDMI Mirroring Is Unsupported.
FM Radio Is Unsupported.
Bugs:
Data Triangle. (Fixed By Reboot, *228)
Battery Exclamation. (Fixed By Reboot)
Some Experience Wifi Connecting Issues. (Fixed By Manual Connect)
Eclipse 2.2
Very Smooth.
Few Mods/Tweaks.
Limited Customization.
Gingerbread 2.35.
Flashable Themes.
AOSP/BLUR Hybrid.
Toggles.
Cons:
Lack Of Customization.
Is Only Gingerbread 2.35.
No Tethering.
Bugs:
Some Experience Wifi Resetting. (No Fix ATM)

I have tried out every x2 rom under the sun and as of right now I think your best bet is cm7. I would recommend running the cm7 mash up script, along with the dual core script, because with both of these the res is flawless.
but of course, I think you should try both of them out because it is personal preference. And if we get cm9 here soon then we will all be happy little cracked out, flashed up, ics'd whores with everything we can dream of for the x2, with some extra feta cheese.

This is a fair evaluation of both ROMs but really it all boils down to personal preference and things like if you need HDMI and stuff like that...I personally never use HDMI or the FM radio...but still liked eclipse and that's what I have on my wife's phone albeit its 2.1...I am sure when CM9 comes out she will like to try it...in short flash them both run them for a week or so and see which one you like and go from there

Just a caution on CM7; I haven't tried the latest release but on the first release the camcorder continuous auto-focus didn't function. It seemed to focus once when you press the shutter button and remain fixed, and sometimes that focus was in error itself. Not a lot of people seem to care about that but my phone has the heavy responsibility of archiving my sons' most important memories for them to look back on when they are older, so I just went back to stock rom. Other than that, CM7 seemed great.
I use CM7RC1 Dual Core Script, Build Prop Mashup, 8 Touch Point Mod, Cron Scheduler, Beats Audio, 3 CDMA Mods. My phone is blazing fast!
Sent from my MB870 using xda premium
In my experience the beats audio hack ruined my sound quality. Also the dual core script......Our 2nd core boots up automatically when there's a demand for more memory. Dragonzkiller even stated this is the dual core script thread. Keeping both on at all times pretty much only drains your battery faster. Only difference I noticed with it was the home screen animations were a little snappier. Wasn't enough change in performance for the lack of battery IMHO. Just a few things if you go the CM7 route. Never tried Eclipse so I can't help you there.

Anyways...Eclipse is literally a hair slower than cm7 but it is worlds more stable. Wifi on Eclipse far better than cm7's. Cm7 has some SU issues but they can be fixed by installing Super SU from the market and getting rid of the normal SU app.
Tethering is easier on cm7 is strong -- heat is something you'll have to worry about. I've tethered on Eclipse through the use of a Market app so a little more work must be done there.
Downside to Eclipse is that you must go to 2.3.5 to use it whereas Cm7 is 2.3.4. Battery life on Eclipse is better for me. I've had serious computer trouble this past month and have had to do some research for papers on my phone! With the brightness on full, Gmusic/Pandora/power amp going and internet on my battery would last ~6-9 hours.
I should also mention that I have the Second Core Script going and my battery life took a very small. Not backbreaking but noticeable.
Not going to lie ; your phone will heat up slightly more regardless of the rom you're on when you use the script
Personally I enjoy Eclipse much more than cm7. Blue is my favorite color
Come over to the dark side...
Hmm haven't ran into any sound issues yet. As far as the dual core script I understand the core will activate on demand. The thing is this only happens when the CPU becomes so over tasked by processes it create a short lag before kicking in. This script makes that laggy transition disappear. I would only recommend this script for people with the extended battery like me tho.

Obviously, lol... no "lag" or time needed to boot because its already always on...
Did you use the script editor in ROM toolbox to apply it, sealedfate? If so do you check apply on boot, or do you only use it when you see fit?

If you have a X2 now I would say you have to try them both. Run one for a couple of weeks do a nano back up and then try the other for a couple of weeks. Then you can decide which you like better. Or you can do like I did and just keep going back and forth every few weeks because you love them both
I have the script in system/ect/init.d so it applies on boot. Helps a hell of a lot with 3D games.

Actually, like I said in my first post, I'm been doing nothing but searching and reading on here for the past week or so. Eclipse 2.2 just dropped a week ago, so I was looking for fresh opinions from people who had tried CM7 and that version specifically.
I appreciate all the helpful comments from everyone though. I think I'll do like a few of you suggested and try them both eventually... starting with CM7.
Hopefully we can all add CM9 to the list of ROMs to try very soon!

Yep! I've been following his Twitter feed and the "CM9DX2 anticipation" thread on here. Can't wait to see how it goes. Sounds like he's REAL close!
Success! Following Moon Shadow's instructions to the letter, I successfully SBF'd back to 2.3.4, rooted, and installed CM7 without any problems whatsoever. CM7 is up and running! Just need to get my apps reinstalled and I'll be good to go. Man... you guys weren't kidding. The phone is SOOOO much faster/smoother now, it's not even funny. Should have done this a long time ago.
Thanks everyone!
OK, it appears that I spoke too soon. I realized soon after that the Google apps did not get loaded on my phone (Gmail, Maps, Nav, YouTube, etc.), but some of the other apps in that same ZIP file DID get installed (Talk). Also, my old background pic was still on the phone.
I was able to download/install the missing Google apps without any problem and they all work perfectly (including Nav from the car dock) - and everything else has been running flawlessly. The phone is very fast & smooth... no bugs... not a single force close or reboot yet after fairly heavy use for the last couple of days.
So... obviously something didn't go perfectly with my install, but as far as I can tell, everything is fine with the phone. How can I tell if I'm missing anything else? Should I just keep what I have or SBF back to 2.3.4 and start over again? I'm perfectly happy with it right now - but maybe I don't know what I'm missing.

Not sure how anyone might be able to tell you what you might be missing on your phone. It is pretty basic what you get, not a lot of bells and whistles put in by default.
Not aware of a comprehensive list of what you should have exactly.
