when someone officially gets this new software update installed post here. and whether or not u did it through clockwork or had to revert back to stock.

What I'm interested in with this update is whether or not removing or renaming the bloatware apps (especially Bing) will cause trouble with applying this and future updates.
i tried the OTA (Over The Air) method and its not picking up any update i wonder if people who have rooted there phone can get this update.
I tried checking, but the updater app is telling me the server is unavailable.

yes now im getting the same message
Will clockwork block this?
Remember, one of the known issues on the Fascinate is that you can't check for OTA updates using WiFi, so make sure your WiFi is off when you force check for updates. =)
I have both a rooted and a stock fascinate so when it's available I will know for sure if being rooted affects getting otas.

Yeah same here.
I want to get rid of that damned lost signal tone.
Yep updated failed with CW installed. The update app tells me there is an update but fails to install. I may flash back later and try it again.
failed with stock kernel, re-installed stock recovery to test that and now my update went away..
guess I'll have to wait until it comes back to test.
Where the heck does it download it to? I can't find it in cache, where the updates usually download to.

i asked the same question on how to remove it without flashing back to stock. I just want to uninstall it. i have asked in several threads with no response...
there must be a way to do this without flashing back to stock....
use root manager's system app uninstaller and remove MobileAP.apk
you can do it with the new task manager in ji6
I tried to uninstall using Root Manager but It didn't work. It only makes Mobile AP useless but still in my wireless setting and I'm having force close problems because of it. I uninstalled the apk. and the data files but no luck.

as long you're rooted, you will not be able to successfully install the ota update. my gf's phone was semi bricked while two of her friend's with non rooted vibrant updated fine.
After removing the MobileAP.apk, try going into recovery and clearing cache.

Dont worry about the APP. I would personally recommend you keep it on your phone. You never know when you might need it. Unless you are running out of space.
Secondly, why are you waiting for Tmobile to push the update to you, when you can just grab a copy in the dev section and install it through ODIN. This way you do not have to worry about stuck at boot up issues that others are complaining about.

and actually its best to remove the mobile AP since i assume the OP is using the JFD version. having the JFD version on JI6 facuses force closes in some areas...esp in brightness settings which is why there are 2 versions for the vibrant

No, Titanium Backup will pull all your app information, including system info/apps, on the initial start up. So you can install it AFTER the fact and it will still see it.
That being said, I just checked mine and it only shows Mobile AP Settings, I went ahead and Froze it (basically freezing it will remove the program as if it has been uninstalled and disable it even though it is still technically installed) and it won't let me use the AP anymore (it just FC's), but the menu item is still there.
FYI though, the OTA will wipe your current ROM which includes the AP and replace it with stock JI6 so it will remove it for you when you get the OTA.
Now that I have said all that....I used my search-fu for you and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7730798&postcount=84
Don't know if it will work, but it looks promising and is worth a shot. As always, be ready to get out ODIN if it bricks your phone. Good luck.
EDIT: I believe a flashable zip will be the only way to revert the mobile AP because it must be installed with a flashable zip. It isn't an APK like normal as it is actually embedded in the ROM itself. (Thus the built in menu options).

You're not blind...
My understanding is that AT&T is rolling it out to in waves. Eventually you'll see the update. They just can't, and don't want to, put it out to every [email protected] at the same time.
From what I've read, if you're planning to root your phone, it's much easier and better supported to do it from an earlier version.

AT&T does this in case the update has a problem that missed their QA process.
I'm fairly certain they are rolling out the update fairly slowly - there were even rumors that it might have been pulled for a while. People getting the OTA have had a LOT of complaints.

The reason you see so many 2.3.6 based ROMs in development is because a few developers took a gamble - they guessed that the UCKK6 leak might be a final release that could go official, and they were right. We had access to a full UCKK6 2-3 weeks before anyone received an OTA.
Note that many of those ROMs are appearing to have a few issues:
1) Weird wifi compatibility issues not present in UCKH7
2) Bluetooth HID is broken - no mouse/keyboard pairing

If you root using either Super One Click, or Doomlords version of the zergrush exploit, you will still retain the stock kernel and be able to get the update without additional changes. If you update while rooted, you will retain root on UCKK6.
I'm not sure, but if you use the zedomax kernel to root, you may lose device manager and therefore not be able to check for the update.

Am I supposed to take the battery out or something. It says do not turn off so I'm a bit confused.
You should not interrupt download mode during a flash, of course, because bad things will happen. However, if the flash is finished, or if you put the phone into download mode without starting a flash, just hold down the power button until the download screen goes away, and the boot screen appears. You can also just pull the battery.

I don't know what would be causing the problem. Some posters indicated that you need to have all the bloatware on the phone, as well as the stock kernel, but I don't know if that is true or not.
I know that when I tested it, I started out on UnNamed. I Used the Odin One-click downloader to put UCKH7 stock plus root, and then updated succesfully. The first time I did it, I forgot to do a data wipe, so after I pulled the files I was getting, I did a data wipe, installed the UCKH7 stock plus root and updated again. The update worked flawlessly on both occasions, retaining root.
So the only thing I can suggest is do a wipe data/factory reset in recovery, install the Return/Unbrick to stock UCKH7 plus root package, and then update. I would think that would clear anything out that would prevent the update.

Hi All,
I still haven't seen the OTA update notice. If I go in manually to "check new" it says its searching for a couple seconds then just closes. Then when I check the status, all I see is:
Source:Verizon Wireless
Name:
Status:
Code: 0
Date:
Time:
Description:
I have only ever temp rooted. I haven't unlocked the bootloader, and I have only removed bloat using CleanTool 2.1.1
I have tried re-enabling all the bloat, rebooted to lose temp root, and removed superuser. I verified that I can't su in a terminal anymore, so root is definitely gone. As i said above, I have added all the bloat back as there are no slightly greyed out applications under "manage applications".
I have now just tried a full factory reset, wiping internal, and SD memory and still nothing.
I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue, or have any other suggestions?
My phone is completely stock and I haven't seen the OTA. I have not done the "check for update" thing as I keep hearing reports that the update breaks more than it fixes.

By the way, the new RUU is up on vigor collection that is the new OTA one, so you can now flash that if you run into trouble later on once your Mainver is updated. Yes, Con's stock rooted rom will give you the new radios and fixes.

Whether you do RUU or con's ROM you still have to relock and then unlock the phone. Well you don't have to unlock it again unless you want root and custom ROM.
Here's a post I just made for someone else in case it helps:
feralicious said:
You can relock and then run the RUU to get you there and then accept the OTA and it should work. Then just unlock again and flash Amon Ra, and then either run stock or restore a nand or flash a new ROM. If you go with an older ROM without the new kernel and you want to use the new kernel you might need to update that. You can do that by following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467793
ATERNATIVE METHOD:
You can also use con247's Stock OTA ROM instead of running the RUU.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21880389
Here are the steps to take to accomplish that:
1) use Amon Ra to flash con's vigorStock OTA ROM. It will do its thing then reboot to hboot. I think it then asks you if you want to update. Don't do it yet.
2) At this point you want to relock. So go into fastboot on the phone. Using adb/fastboot type the following at the cmd prompt:
fastboot oem lock
3) Reboot phone and let it flash the PHzip file. It should reboot completely when it's finished.
4) delete the PHzip file using a file explorer app like ES File Explorer or Root Explorer.
5) get the phone back into fastboot. Unlock again using adb/fastboot. I don't remember the exact command but you can find that in the guide for unlocking.
6) reinstall su using Amon Ra.
Now you should be stock OTA rooted with the new goodies.
Check in Settings > About phone > Software info > More to see that you got all the new stuff.

Well I called tech support last night and they are sending me a "certified like new" refurb. I am kindof nervous that the new phone might have any number of the problems in the post created by jdmba. It seems that the update should have gone to everybody by now and since my phone would just close the "check new" window without reporting if there was or wasn't an update they instantly said they would send me a new phone to resolve the problem with no charge. So for anyone else that hasn't gotten the update that wants it you might want to call verizon. When it gets in on friday I will check all the known issues to see if the new one has a worse problem and if i just want to unlock the old phones bootloader to manually install the updates that I want in the future.
I'm s-off with a custom rom installed. I ran the zip to remove the OTA from this thread, but it did not work (the notification is still present). The update will allegedly force itself onto my phone today. Will this potentially brick my device? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can't take the ota if you have a custom recovery. So don't worry.
And if you are on viper, are you sure it's not the roms ota, as opposed to vzws

When you say "You can't", do you mean the process will cancel itself and not install anything when it tries to run?
I am on Viper, but I'm not sure if it's their OTA. The persistent notification just says "System update is available, Tap to download the system update". It occurs to me now that the verizon OTA may not even show up outside of the stock ROM (though I'm not sure how that works)

Yep, it'll download the ota and boot into recovery and just sit there.

tap the notification. There's a good chance it's the Viper ota if you haven't already installed. And the newest viper version has the Verizon ota stuff removed so you don't have to worry.

What version of Viper are you running? The latest is 1.1.3.
That's Viper's OTA. Verizon's just begins downloading, it doesn't ask you. Definitely accept it. If you're using TWRP recovery it'll install itself. If you're using ClockworkMod recovery you'll need to select the zip from the sdcard once it's downloaded and say yes when it asks to accept the unsigned zip.
If you're running an older version then you'll get a few in a row (as in after you update to 1.1.1, it'll tell you there's an upgrade to 1.1.2 available, etc.). They're only 16MB each and go pretty quick. DON'T WIPE, it's just an update.
