Hi All,
I still haven't seen the OTA update notice. If I go in manually to "check new" it says its searching for a couple seconds then just closes. Then when I check the status, all I see is:
Source:Verizon Wireless
Name:
Status:
Code: 0

Description:
I have only ever temp rooted. I haven't unlocked the bootloader, and I have only removed bloat using CleanTool 2.1.1
I have tried re-enabling all the bloat, rebooted to lose temp root, and removed superuser. I verified that I can't su in a terminal anymore, so root is definitely gone. As i said above, I have added all the bloat back as there are no slightly greyed out applications under "manage applications".
I have now just tried a full factory reset, wiping internal, and SD memory and still nothing.
I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue, or have any other suggestions?
My phone is completely stock and I haven't seen the OTA. I have not done the "check for update" thing as I keep hearing reports that the update breaks more than it fixes.

Same here. I kept checking for it until I started seeing all the comments about it breaking things. I think I'll wait for a bit instead.

I've heard good things about it. Some people are saying that it improves signal and battery life drastically

You don't need to do that Mainver stuff unless you already have a problem flashing updates via the PH98IMG.zip method.
if you have recovery, just download cons ota rom and flash it.

By the way, the new RUU is up on vigor collection that is the new OTA one, so you can now flash that if you run into trouble later on once your Mainver is updated. Yes, Con's stock rooted rom will give you the new radios and fixes.

What would you suggest? Using the ruu or his rom? Is there any benefits using one over the other? I'm thinking I might use the ruu from HTC so that I know they're won't be any problems but I'd rather not unlock and do all that.

Whether you do RUU or con's ROM you still have to relock and then unlock the phone. Well you don't have to unlock it again unless you want root and custom ROM.
Here's a post I just made for someone else in case it helps:
feralicious said:
You can relock and then run the RUU to get you there and then accept the OTA and it should work. Then just unlock again and flash Amon Ra, and then either run stock or restore a nand or flash a new ROM. If you go with an older ROM without the new kernel and you want to use the new kernel you might need to update that. You can do that by following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467793
ATERNATIVE METHOD:
You can also use con247's Stock OTA ROM instead of running the RUU.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21880389
Here are the steps to take to accomplish that:
1) use Amon Ra to flash con's vigorStock OTA ROM. It will do its thing then reboot to hboot. I think it then asks you if you want to update. Don't do it yet.
2) At this point you want to relock. So go into fastboot on the phone. Using adb/fastboot type the following at the cmd prompt:
fastboot oem lock
3) Reboot phone and let it flash the PHzip file. It should reboot completely when it's finished.
4) delete the PHzip file using a file explorer app like ES File Explorer or Root Explorer.
5) get the phone back into fastboot. Unlock again using adb/fastboot. I don't remember the exact command but you can find that in the guide for unlocking.
6) reinstall su using Amon Ra.
Now you should be stock OTA rooted with the new goodies.
Check in Settings > About phone > Software info > More to see that you got all the new stuff.

Well I called tech support last night and they are sending me a "certified like new" refurb. I am kindof nervous that the new phone might have any number of the problems in the post created by jdmba. It seems that the update should have gone to everybody by now and since my phone would just close the "check new" window without reporting if there was or wasn't an update they instantly said they would send me a new phone to resolve the problem with no charge. So for anyone else that hasn't gotten the update that wants it you might want to call verizon. When it gets in on friday I will check all the known issues to see if the new one has a worse problem and if i just want to unlock the old phones bootloader to manually install the updates that I want in the future.

I'm running the stock ROM, rooted. When the next OTA drops, whether it be GB or just the removal of Free Hotspot, obviously I'm not going to be wanting it to auto-download/install. Aside from editing the build.prop file (which I never messed with) that I noticed mentioned in a thread from a few months ago, are there any options (other than flashing a different ROM) to stop the update from pushing to my TB? Will it disable OTA updates if I freeze Updater 2.2 with Titanium Backup?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
You won't automatically get the OTA and have it installed. You have to accept it and allow it to be downloaded and installed. But I believe the build.prop is where you have to make the change (device ID??) so that it won't get to you.
Most roms that have you flash standalone gapps packages use FOTAKill to kill ota updates.

Flashing fotakill is not flashing a rom...but ok...didn't realize that was implied.
I was just sharing...but I will bite my tongue in the future.
My mistake, I thought you were implying that flashing a ROM would remedy the situation because they're already including FOTA Kill (which it would.) I didn't realize you were referring to just flashing FOTA Kill standalone. Is that even possible on a stock rooted TB?

I'm not exactly sure the detail of it other than running a service that prevents ota. I would have thought it could be applied to stock assuming the same service is receiving the ota but I could be wrong. Ask Zinx.

As far as I was aware, you'd still get the notification and the update since the service is still checking. It will just fail when it tries to install. Perhaps I am wrong though.

Unless the TB is different than the DINC in that respect, that's not correct. On the DINC, if you're running the stock ROM, rooted or not, you'll still receive the OTA notifications. They won't install properly and/or brick the phone if you have S-OFF.

My understanding is that AT&T is rolling it out to in waves. Eventually you'll see the update. They just can't, and don't want to, put it out to every [email protected] at the same time.
From what I've read, if you're planning to root your phone, it's much easier and better supported to do it from an earlier version.

AT&T does this in case the update has a problem that missed their QA process.
I'm fairly certain they are rolling out the update fairly slowly - there were even rumors that it might have been pulled for a while. People getting the OTA have had a LOT of complaints.

The reason you see so many 2.3.6 based ROMs in development is because a few developers took a gamble - they guessed that the UCKK6 leak might be a final release that could go official, and they were right. We had access to a full UCKK6 2-3 weeks before anyone received an OTA.
Note that many of those ROMs are appearing to have a few issues:
1) Weird wifi compatibility issues not present in UCKH7
2) Bluetooth HID is broken - no mouse/keyboard pairing

If you root using either Super One Click, or Doomlords version of the zergrush exploit, you will still retain the stock kernel and be able to get the update without additional changes. If you update while rooted, you will retain root on UCKK6.
I'm not sure, but if you use the zedomax kernel to root, you may lose device manager and therefore not be able to check for the update.

Am I supposed to take the battery out or something. It says do not turn off so I'm a bit confused.
You should not interrupt download mode during a flash, of course, because bad things will happen. However, if the flash is finished, or if you put the phone into download mode without starting a flash, just hold down the power button until the download screen goes away, and the boot screen appears. You can also just pull the battery.

I don't know what would be causing the problem. Some posters indicated that you need to have all the bloatware on the phone, as well as the stock kernel, but I don't know if that is true or not.
I know that when I tested it, I started out on UnNamed. I Used the Odin One-click downloader to put UCKH7 stock plus root, and then updated succesfully. The first time I did it, I forgot to do a data wipe, so after I pulled the files I was getting, I did a data wipe, installed the UCKH7 stock plus root and updated again. The update worked flawlessly on both occasions, retaining root.
So the only thing I can suggest is do a wipe data/factory reset in recovery, install the Return/Unbrick to stock UCKH7 plus root package, and then update. I would think that would clear anything out that would prevent the update.

Ok, I looked around and cannot find an answer that works for me for this issue. I am wondering if it has to do with my phone having S-Off? I am most likely wrong, but i have to know whats going on. No matter what I try, I cannot get My Rezound to go from GB to ICS, ANY ICS BASED ROM for that matter. I checked MD5, Tried with battery door both removed and attached, with or without the SIM card inserted into the phone. The phone boots up almost 100%. I get a message saying "Updating Android" and it says its updating or doing something to 160 apps, the system then reboots, when it gets past the 4G screen again, It says that the boot was completed, I have no signal, i checked on the service type and its correct, tried a factory reset, and still nothing, the system just continues to boot loop over and over again, and when it boots up i cannot get past the Activation screen where it says that the phone is trying to contact Verizon to Auto Activate. I can go back to GB easily, and that works %100. Any and all information would be useful, Only reason why i think this might have to do with S-Off is because my first Rezound was S-On and worked just fine going to ICS, while this new one has S-Off and is just not cutting it.
If you have s-off the rom image could contain a radio update. That could be getting you...also data is off by default in some ICS ROMs.

so what would be recommended in this type of situation? I know its not the data being off thats causing the issue, because when i boot up i dont have a signal at all, and the lock screen instead of showing VZW banner it says No Signal. Would the Radio being an issue also cause boot loop issues?
Did you put the battery cover on the phone ?
Edit saw that u did sorry ...

Only thing i can think of is that the ICS rom you flashed has data off automatically, and requires you to keep pressing the home button until it passes the activation screen.
Also make sure your battery cover is on like yojoe600 said, your antenna is connected to the cover and without it you will have no signal.

this is just sooooooooo irritating. all that i have tried, this is kinda depressing. One interesting thing that i did come across though. When i flashed the BAMF GB, and tried to go from rom to rom to rom, i didnt get any MainVer error.... Dont know if thats just because S-Off allows you to go from one to another freely, or if its just not taking these updates.....
S-off has no mainvar issues. Try putting the gb radio into a PB zip or whatever the resound uses and flash that and boot to see of you get data then

On a side note, how would one go about flashing a different recovery.img on an S-Off device, do i have to adb it, or can i do it on the fly? If so, how?

what you mean more info, my original post was pretty clear, dont mean to be snappy or anything, i could try to give more info maybe. I've tried all the "fixes" and so far nothing works. ALL AND ANY ICS BASED ROMS are not staying stable on my phone. They get stuck in what i think is the data bootloop, but i cannot access the dial pad other than through the Emergency dial pad, i input the *#*#4636#*#* and nothing comes up, i try without the battery cover, and without the SIM card as well (Also have tried Various combinations of SIM and Battery Cover removals and inclusions). The device has S-Off, and is Unlocked with DevUnlock, and has Perm Root.
Like I stated in my initial post, the leak may contain a radio update that your phone(and the network) isn't ready for. We wouldn't get that update because our radios are locked and only a signed update from HTC would install it. I'd say back down to GB and wait it out...or post in the thread of the ROM maker and ask them about the radio.

what you mean more info, my original post was pretty clear, dont mean to be snappy or anything, i could try to give more info maybe.

When I say more info, I mean don't describe every symptom... tell us specifically what you did. Every ICS ROM is unique, like for example I last installed newtoroot's Senseless 4.0.3 ROM. In order to use it, I had to flash a ICS Kernel, I used the fastboot method. Then I could flash the ROM using AmonRa Recovery, and it would boot and operate effectively.
That's the kind of specifics we need, so we can follow your steps and identify possible error points, if any.

Definetly more descriptive lol thank you for the breakdown infact. In that case, last one i tried what the ICS Sense Redefined, and I tried to use the fastboot method for the Included Kernel as well, but that didnt work at all, what ICS Kernel did you flash to get it to work? a Pre-Packaged one? When installing, I did a full wipe (Both the Amon Ra Factory Reset option and the SuperWipe that is in the Dev Forum) installed the Rom, went into the Bootloader and did ADB CMD of fastboot flash boot boot.img and thats about it.

That is the one I used. If you're having issues with fastboot flashing the kernel, you may want to throw the PH98IMG.zip onto your external sd-card and boot into HBOOT then hit vol up to install it that way

ok, i'll give this a shot really quick and do through ext. sd. thanks for the link btw, you've been extremely helpful. let ya know how this goes for me.
I've asked for help in the threads posted about the OTA update and I cannot get the help I need. I've seen people post similar questions that I have and they are largely ignored. I had to stay away from the forums because I was getting so damn angry.
I have root and I have S-Off. I have not flashed any ROMs on this phone. I want to apply the OTA update but I do not know how to do that.
There's mentions of flashing firmware, radios, PRIs, PRLs, ROMs, Deoxed, Oxeded, hboot, bootloader, recovery, TWRP, etc. All of that across multiple threads does not compute well in my head.
I've read a lot and I am not sure what to do. Can someone please help me out? I will be forever grateful. I could send you a case for your phone for helping me. I promise I am not being lazy. I'm just not getting it.
If you're rooted and you have S-Off, you should have TWRP. First verify that by booting into the bootloader (Power + Vol Down) and going to Recovery.
Once in TWRP, do a backup. Backup everything. This way if something goes wrong you can restore your previous ROM.
Next download this: http://d-h.st/d2a
It's the firmware zip, courtesy of Haus. Rename the file to remove all of the stuff after PJ85IMG. Then put it on the root of your SD card and boot into the bootloader. It will scan for a zip and find it, and ask you if you want to update. This step is optional; you can flash new 1.22 ROMs without the new firmware.
After flashing that through bootloader, you can choose a 1.22 ROM that looks good to you, and download it. Boot back into TWRP, do a factory reset and wipe System, and then install the ROM. If you download it to your external SD card (in other words, an SD card you put in yourself), you'll have to mount it by going to Mounts and choosing external SD. That way you'll be able to access files on it.
To install the ROM after wiping, just hit Install from the main menu of TWRP and navigate to the location of the ROM zip you downloaded. Install it and reboot, and there you have it, you're on the new firmware and using a ROM with the new fixes in it!
The firmware zip is optional, but recommended. If you aren't comfortable flashing it, don't bother.

Thank you Sora! I am going to follow your advice this afternoon and will let you know how it goes.

This way will not cause you to lose any data, and installs the update on top of what you already have. Still recommend a backup in TWRP first, though

I would personally recommend staying away from that method. As a rooted user you should never accept an ota. Doing it that way might work this time, but in the future there's no guarantee you won't lose s-off and never be able to get it again

I know "never OTA" is your and some other people's mantra, but being able to do this is one of the benefits of S-off. I agree it is possible they could turn you back to S-ON in a future OTA (maybe...), but since it works for this current update, I don't think you should be dissuaded if you don't want to completely wipe your phone.

My man.
Exactly.
Just look at all of the people who show up on here going "Oh crap I took the OTA and now I can't get S-OFF"! The fact of the matter is, people don't check here before taking the OTA. If they look here and see that thread that says to just put on teh stock recovery and you're A-OK, thats what they'll do from then on.
When it happens, I'm just going to sit back and say "toldya so"... and let everyone else deal with the support. Until then, I'm going to keep preaching that you should never take an OTA if you are rooted or EVER thinking about rooting.
Sora, I looked at your instructions. I flashed ROMs before on my EVO 4G. That process I was comfortable with. Basically, the developer did all the work for me. I wanted to keep my phone stock for a while but I do want the updates.

It really comes down to this, if you're still having problems:
If you have recovery, just flash a ROM with the new base. Just like you'd do on your old Evo.

Ok, so I will have to flash a ROM. Do you think I can flash the deodexed version of this [ROM][STOCK] --- Stock Rooted 1.22.651.3 Odexed & DeOdexed (7/14/12)--- over my stock-from-Sprint setup?
I flashed TWRP. I'm going to update the firmware next with the file you pointed me to. I'm trying to find the info on clearing Google wallet.
...then the ROM.
Clearing GW data should say something about resetting it. It'll be in the app settings.
Seems like you've got it down now, I'm glad to say. You'll be able to flash that ROM without any issues.

Sora, how do you flash your ROMs? Do you use TWRP? or something like Goo Manager? I haven't used Goo Manager before, but I see it flashes ROMs.
The global update for the Rezound is failing installation for me.
The update has been downloaded seven times OTA and has failed installation every time on my phone.
My phone's current version is:
Android version: 4.0.3
HTC Sense version: 3.6
Software number: 3.14.605.13 710RD
Baseband version: 1.22.10.042lr, 1.22.10.0424r
The downloaded OTA version: ADR6425LVW_4.05.605.14-3.14.605.13
It successfully downloads the file, reboots into "Android system recovery", and displays the following error...
RA Revamped...
Build : RA-VIGOR-v3.16-getitnowmarketing
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
wrong taskid 221384E:Error in /cache/fumo/OTAPkg.zip
(Status 1)
Installation aborted.
The phone's bootloader is relocked and "S-OFF".
I've also deleted the OTAPkg.zip file from /cache/fumo, and the "fumo" directory itself, and re-downloaded the OTAPkg.zip file but it still failed installation.
The OTAPkg.zip file is 217,141,266 bytes in size.
The resetting of my phone and getting it hung in the Android System Recovery every few hours is getting annoying.
Anybody have any ideas on how to get this fixed and the Global update successfully installed?
Thanks,
Dan
It is probably because you have a custom recovery.

Thanks for the info. I had forgotten that I had previously flashed the amon-ra recovery. As suggested, I flashed the rezound stock recovery and the darn OTA update still wouldn't flash. The phone gave me a similar error message as before. I then flashed the entire 3.14.605.12 OTA release just to get a known stable release. The phone boots and reports that an OTA is available (to go from 3.14.605.12 to 3.14.605.13), but then times out while trying to download the firmware and gives the following error: "SERVICE UNAVAILABLE Check for Software Update under Settings when service is available". The Status reports Download Failed, Code 503. It's late, I'm giving up for the night.

I posted instructions for how to flash firmware.zip while s-on in the other global thread
You will need firmware.zip (linked to in that thread), a nandroid backup, your HTC unlock code, and possibly a coy of the stock HTC recovery.

Brenuga, thanks for the instructions. If I'm S-on, locked and running stock recovery and the global leak and wanted to end up in the same configuration but with the new firmware, would I just fastboot erase cache and then fastboot flash zip firmware.zip?

You also have to do fastboot oem rebootRUU before you can flash firmware.zip, and remember to flash it again after it errors out the first time.
You may lose your current boot.img so have it ready to flash after updating firmware or else you will bootloop.

please have pity on me. i don't even know what s-on or s-off mean. all the tech jargon is confusing.
My rezound is rooted, but just so i can use it as a wifi hotspot. never done anything else to it.
it keeps on rebooting and fails to install this new update. my recovery screen says exactly what the OP's did.
i don't want to wipe my phone just for a stupid update. i'm not convinced that i even need an update. how can i stop it from updating or doing this?
in an unrelated note, is there a way i could hack my rezound so that i don't have to pull the stupid ring and deal with the lock screen?
can't i just press the unlock/power button and be on the home screen? just tell me what thread and keywords to search for, thanks!
Thanks to all you guys! this forum has helped me use my rezound's 4g for my laptop and tablet all over the country.

If you don't want the update, just download titanium backup, find the apps called OTAUpdater and 'freeze' the apps to keep them from running. There's two ota apps, one from HTC and one from vzw
Holo locker is an alternative lock screen widget. Just install it and set lock screen security method to 'none'.

Is there another way to freeze them? I'm also not finding any app in the free version of Titanium that has OTAUpdater anywhere in the name. You can't freeze from the free version, though, and the Pro version is $6.58 in the store.

Yes, go to settings, manage apps. You still have to find app named otaupdater. In manage apps, you can 'disable' apps to keep them from running. Its the same thing as freezing.

Actually, I apologize for not just buying pro. For what these people do for us, $6.58 isn't too much too ask. I went ahead and bought it. I still am not seeing the otaupdater at all, though.

Yes, that's the one. Any other apps that say update or report are good to freeze, too. Any HTC or vzw apps you don't use. Vzw SSO you need if you use visual voicemail or my Verizon app.
