Beware FW 2.3.81 eats 10MB? - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A number of A70 users (myself included) are reporting that today's firmware update can reduce available apps memory by around 10-12MB. Fairly serious for those of you who push that particular envelope?
PS - I did a simple update not a reset, update and reinstall. Would be interested if others have noticed this and whether a thorough clean out makes a difference

Did you uninstall Flash before the install?
As this comes with Flash 10.1 it might be that even with an installed 10.3 on your tab they put the 10.1 somewhere.
I have first deinstalled 10.3 just out of curiosity to check if it might be working better.

> I have first deinstalled 10.3 just out of curiosity to check if it might be working better. <
Does it?
And, if it does, could there be exported an "Archos Flash 10.1"-apk in order to deinstall 10.3 and install that individually since one can't update to the same FW again...

mmhh, don't know.
I never had problems before, as i don't game and those few webpages that i use like tagesschau.de are working in both.

You just have both version of flash (10.1 and 10.3) installed ... remove both and install the resent one if you want it from the market ...

Do you think 10.1 is better as 10.3? Anyone have compare?

[Q] UrukDroid 0.7 (Archos 43IT) - All Camera apps FC

So yeah, I've been using UrukDroid for a while now but I only just noticed that none of the camera apps (Camera, ZXing Barcode Scanner, Google Goggles) start up successfully. I've tried doing a full firmware reset in recovery mode, remove and reinstall SDE, and reinstalling Uruk, and noticed a few things.
-Stock: Works
-Stock with SDE installed (boot stock): Works
-Stock with Uruk installed (boot stock): Works *i think*
-Stock with Uruk installed (boot Uruk): Does not work
-Remove stock firmware + boot Uruk: Does not work
Does anyone know a solution to this? I'd really like to be able to use Uruk with camera working, it's the only method I have of having virtually unlimited space for apps in system storage.
Edited: I can't report a bug in the Uruk bug reports thread because this subforum is agraahdhsargh, don't tell me about it
Edited: Can $auron please add ipv6 support in UrukDroid? There's already an alternative zImage for chulri's root that has it, I'd really like to be able to use Google Goggles <3
A friend of mine (achosrocker) has the same probpem with his 43, but i dont have that poblem because im using a 101 without an HD cam..
So its only the camera of the 43
Can we get $auron to add support for the A43IT in the 2.3 update of Urukdroid?
Thanks.

What update do you mean?
Currently we are on version 0.7, the next will be version 1.0
Maybe you meam the archos firmware update this week?
this is version is 2.3.20.
but i think if many people report this bug sauron and his guys will be fix this
Yeah, whichever version of uruk gets updated to 2.3.x, I'd like to have support for the A43's camera. (I'm not sure what kernel or android feature isn't compiled into uruk that allows the HD camera on the A43 to work).
If $auron is reading this, I would be willing to help do testing on my device if necessary.
Also, for some reason (I'm not sure if it's UrukDroid-related) every time my A43 reboots the mediascanner deletes all files under Documents, Music, Pictures, and Videos. It leaves the folders alone, although the respective apps seem to remove all traces of any files from their caches.
I get the same FCs on my 70IT with Uruk so it's not a matter of having a A43IT support I guess.

Oh really?
i dont heard about that problem once, but i have an idea:
Reinstall urukdroid over "normal" installation way or you wait untill 1.0 version and then you do the normal installation way, not the update way over **/UrukUpdate
Are you saying we all should reinstall UrukDroid, or just him? (And does "normal" mean the "easy" install option?) I for one would rather not have to reinstall from scratch unless absolutely necessary as I have a lot installed and configured and have even written a few changes to the system filesystem (new font, hosts file, etc.)

Wait, I absolutely can't use things like the barcode scanner in UrukDroid (just force close the moment it tries to actually operate the camera -- though the initial startup with that information screen works fine, it FCs as soon as I hit the button to start the actual scanner part where it accesses the camera) but if I reboot to the stock firmware it works in that. Are you absolutely sure it doesn't work in your stock firmware? Really the stock firmware shouldn't even know if UrukDroid is installed or not, right?

Interesting. Do you suppose it could have a problem then with it being HD? Maybe the resolution or format causes a problem?

1) Just him, because he has an A70 and i've never heard before that problem on this device
2) Yap it means the easy install method
3) I suppose so, because i've never heard about this FC problem at Archos devi es except the 43 - the only device with a 720p cam...
@Nazo: By stock with Uruk installed I mean the stock Archos firmware and the SDE using the Uruk kernel are installed, but I boot UrukDroid. I'm not sure if it makes a difference whether UrukDroid is installed or not on when booting the Archos firmware.
Also, for some reason I can't get Uruk 1.0 or 0.7 to reinstall, when I try booting the SDE with the respective kernel replacement, I get the error "UrukDroid 1.0 ERROR: Failed to mount rootfs /dev/mmcblk1p2" which is the second partition on the internal storage, apparently. The stock firmware (latest 2.3.20 android 2.2) works perfectly fine with no problems.
They seem to have fixed this for urukdroid 1.0. I have a 43IT and experienced the same problems with 0.7. I was really worried that I wasn't going to have a camera anymore, but after upgrading, it works! Hallelujah!
This might be anecdotal, but for the first couple hours the device kept overheating and shutting itself off. I just turned it off for a good half-hour and it worked just fine.
Also, I think $auron made a way to reinstall urukdroid from scratch, instead of upgrading, which might fix your current problem. Look on the urukdroid thread (last post) / the wiki when it's updated.
same here..did not work before 1.0 and does work fine now.(using rc3 have not yet updated to 'real' 1.0 but should not make any difference)
I didn't even know there was a 1.0 already. It took me a while to find it, but I managed to. If I did the "reinstall" option hoping not to wipe out all of the programs I had installed and configured and all of their saved data it would still force close on startup. I had to do a fully reinstall from scratch. Now the barcode scanner works again. Unfortunately, I lost Weatherbug (instant force close on start) which was the only weather app I had left that didn't force close, so I'm not sure that this was worth it at all since that was far more important to me than the barcode scanner. At least I can run it if I reboot to the stock firmware, but this is kind of a pain. I guess I'm glad to see the barcode scanner working with the update even if I'd give it up to get any of my weather apps working again (I really don't feel like reinstalling yet again to downgrade though.)

[Q] With latest stock update is custom ROM still important?

I have a Gtablet enroute right now and have been doing a lot of reading the last few days. When first released all the talk was that it was a nice peice of hardware but to be any good you had to use a custom ROM with it. Is this still the case with the latest 4xxx update?
Pexcer,
It all depends on what you want. That's what the choices XDA offers here are all
about.
When we started with G-Tablets back last fall, the software was so bad it was
almost unfunctional. It has improved with each update. With 4349 installed you
can put your apps on it and have a functional tablet -- but whether it is good enough
for you is your call.
There are a number of alternate ROMs and each has it assets and liabilities.
The only way I know to approach it is to read the threads related to each rom and
see what those advantages and disadvantages are. You can eliminate some that way.
And whatever you have left, you will just have to try and see what you like.
I know this is not the "Go use the _______________ rom" that a lot of people will
give you -- but I'm not pandering for anybody's rom. I believe everyone should
research, try and make their own choice.

I'm more inclined to go with the fastest rom I can get my hands on. I don't care about looks. And stock rom will never be able to fun as fast as custom rom.
That said, you should make this decision on your own. Depends on what you want. If you are like my brother in law who wants everything to be official and fully officially supported, then I suggest you stay with the stock upgraded rom. If you're like me who doesn't care that it's the official release and would rather have a super fast tablet, then custom rom is definitely the way to go.
In another thread, I was endorsing the new calk/clems combo v3, which my quadrant test resulted in 4081. I've posted a picture in this post. Right now, the only thing that seems to be faster than this is the modded xoom, which is only about 80 more. I highly doubt the stock rom will ever be able to give us this much power.
Thanks for the response. I may try the stock UI for a few days when I get it. I have been having difficulty in really seeing the differences between the different ROMs out there though. One thing I plan to do a lot is watch TV shows I've downloaded from TVtorrents, these are 720p x264 in an MKV, is there one mod that can handle Video like that or is that a non issue. I can also grab non HD formats which would have a higher chance of working, but would rather not.
I've also read that hulu can be made to work, at least on one ROM, can't recall which now. If one does Hulu and another doesn't that would be an issue as well. I only download shows that Hulu or Netflix doesn't have.
Any guidance from people familiar with the different options would be appreciated, might save me from some trial and error in the next couple weeks.

Torrents blows goats. their download speeds are as fast as my original G Tab os. File Hosting is the way to roll.
Off my soapbox, I agree with goodintentions. Speed and stability is the key. after that, ADW, 3D Launcher, VTLauncher and a few other Home screen launchers can customize your experience. let us know how yours runs. I won't go that route until the ROM's for it (1.2) are out and stable.
I don't have the newest update that just came out, so I can't comment on that. But I can mention why I went back to the stock ROM. I got my g tablet when woot was selling them. I left the stock rom on for a week and it worked pretty well as a shared device between me and my wife. The stock apps let you keep separate accounts. I put on clockwork and formatted the drive as recommended, then I tried TNT lite, g harmony, and cyanogen. They make your tablet like a big phone. When you sign in to the google apps, all you contacts, calendar, and emails are imported. This didn't work so well as a shared tablet. I decided to leave clockwork mod and the recommended formatting but put the original ROM back on. With the proper formatting, the thing isn't too bad. Probably not as fast as some of the folks here would like, but it serves our purpose as a shared device.
Half the fun (and half the aggravation) is trying different roms. Which is best? That is hard to say. Here is what I suggest. Don't get the latest update with the locked bootloader because then there is nothing you can play with. Get Titanium Backup so you can back up your apps. Learn how to connect t o your pc with usb so you can copy your stuff safely away while you play. Install clockworkmod so you can fix things and install different roms. NVflash is also a good thing to set up and learn but you don't have to right away unless you got the latest update. Now do this.
1. Use clockwork mod to make a backup of your original rom and copy it to your pc.
2. Download and install a new rom calkulin/clemsyn is nice. Use clockwork mod again to make a backup of that installation.
3. download another rom and install. Use clockworkmod to make a backup of that one.
4. When you've tried enough of them you can decide which one you like and restore it using clockwork mod.
5. Changed you mind? Restore one of the others!
6. Rinse and repeat as needed.
Remember Titanium Backup will backup your apps and data - so, if you install a new rom you can restore your apps and data. That means you don't have to go fetch them all in the market and you don't have to restart angry birds at level one.
There are lots of tutorials on how to do this stuff - read the stickys.
Good luck
Try a bunch of ROMs
I agree with enigma. I got my Gtablet last week and immediately updated hoping that the new stock ROM was good enough. It isn't. It's slow and "chunky" plus doesn't have access to the Android market.
I've heard good stuff about the calkulin/clemsyn and Vegan. Being that Vegan is Honeycomb I just went with that though I really should have tried calkulin/clemsyn too as so many must like it for a reason.
I'm new to Android as well so don't get too hung up on the difficulty of installing ROMs. There are very clear, step by step instructions to be found here. Each install takes maybe 15 minutes. So in an afternoon you could easily install and play with half a dozen ROMs before deciding on which you like better.

if you need vpn, cifs then you need a custom ROM
It depends on what capabilities you want. I need VPN and COFS so I use TNTL 4.4. Also, you can install alternate keybaords. The custom ROMs also tend to fix a lot of issues.
Shame on Viewsonic for locking bootloader in the 1.2 branch.

Yeah, that was the only problem I had with that ROM. It seemed to always happen for me when the tablet would hard freeze and I had to reboot. Once it boots back up, anytime I access the Market, everything was not compatible with GTab.
I never found a solution other than returning to HC. It was a good ROM and that was the only prob I had with it.
Does [BL1.2]VEGAn-TAB GingerEdition v7.1.0 solve this issue?
Yes, it is much better running Vending 3.1.3.
If you have superuser rights, use AntTek App Manager to backup flash, than delete it from system (even sys application version), the Hulufied version from ASOP Ginger posts. You might need to install, update from market, remove, and install Hulufied version to stick.
Just download it on the PC..then hook up your GTab to the PC...drag the Flash 10.3 (Yes that one will work) into the storage on the device. Then download it from there.
All the apps (And there was ALOT) that shows up Non Compatible with your device in the Market...will actually work if you do it that way.
Thank you for all the responses. I went for the upgrade option to Vegantab 7.1. I am very pleased.

Super slow phone; Need help downgrading from 7.1.1

Hey Everyone!
Just like most other Z5C users, my phone is running terribly slow. I just "upgraded" to 7.1.1 a couple days ago in hopes that it would fix how laggy it is, but it's still the same performance issues. I'll be listening to music and all of a sudden it stops, I can't take pics with my camera, app icons take forever to show up on homescreen, everything I switch between cache reloads, etc. I'm done with it.
I want to downgrade to 7.0, since it was the last stable upgrade I can recall. (Unless there's another solution to improving my phone's performance)
However, I have no knowledge of how to downgrade. I'm a total noob. Many of the youtube videos I've found are of terrible quality or are difficult to understand or require that I have my phone rooted.
I'd prefer to leave my phone unrooted. I guess I just need a link to the correct resources I need and has all the steps, then I can figure it out from there. OR if there's a better route to kicking my phone into the shape it should be in.
PS. Got a screenshot attached to show my phone's performance. It's currently using 1.7GB and has 38MB of free memory.
Mine works fine, 7.1.1. In my experience, it performs the same as 7.0 and even sometimes suppresses 7.0.
You will need to download XperiFirm and Flashtool first.
You can follow this tut to create ftf from the files you download: http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/08/1...re-files-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool-guide/
Note that you do not need to decrypt files since XperiFirm does that for you. You just need to create bundle from those files.

Upgrading problems on Samsung P7510 tablet to Marshmallow

I'm trying to upgrade my Samsung p7510 10.1 tablet from Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 to either Marshmallow or Nougat, or better. I've installed TWRP 3.1.1 and rooted with SuperSu. I've had to assume root has worked as can't download root checker onto my tablet.
So, far I've managed to find a version of Marshmallow "ROM-STOCK_MMB29K-seed.zip" on androidfilehost.com. But when I try installing I keep getting error message "Updater process ended with signal: 4". I've wiped the Data, cleared the Cache and Dalvik Cache. Also searched the internet for info on the signal 4 problem but not found much other than to remove the "assert" line from the updater-script file in the OS zip.; that did nothing.
So, a few questions:
- Anyone know where I can get OS zips from for a Samsung P7510?
- And any ideas on resolving the signal 4 issue?
- Any other ideas?
P.S. The only reason I'm updating is I want to use it for Kindle but can only reach HTTP sites, not HTTPS. Assumed that is because it's so old that everything is out of date. And that stops me from downloading anything from just about anywhere, including Google Play.
P.P.S I have searched the forums but couldn't find anything helpful or with links that worked.
Thanks in anticipation
Might I suggest the stabelest ROM I've ever run on my P7510. I've had this installed on mine for over a year now. There are of course some minor bugs.
The signal 4 issue is most likely a Binary issue and should no longer be relevant since you should reset the device to factory and start over. Another thing is once you Root it you can't download from Google play because you now have an unverified device, it has something to do with Google Pay. You'll want to look for APKs. Although SuperSu is usable, you're going to want Majisk insted. I hear of some problems using SuperSu.
I have these files here in my PC if any of the links no longer work but you'll want to know how to flash it so you'll need the video. I'll check back soon and drop a link to my files. if you need them. I'd need to upload them to my Google Drive first.
If you have any other difficulties I'm usually here about once every week.
P.S. Your tab is better than a Kindle and I would not suggest using it as such, it runs pretty crappy that way . Amazon does have an app you can use. And I see that you have been having difficulties finding Operating Systems for your tab and yes it's because the P7510 first hit the market in March of 2011 there aren't many people doing much with it anymore. There's about 3 or 4 of us left.
Firstly, thanks for your help @Casper Young .
In particular the video was brilliant. I did have a few runs at the update, however, the process was very straightforward. The key issue was the TWRP version I was using. It was supposed to be for the P7510, but realised it was actually for the P7500, consequently the aosp files weren't loading. I think that was also the cause of the errors I was getting. And although none of the links were working I managed to get the file names from the video and sourced them from androidfilehost.com:
twrp2870-20150814-p4wifi.tar.md5
aosp-7.1-p4wifi-20170506.zip
Once I had those it was simple and the update worked smoothly.
I've also added the app from apkpure.com as Google play was a complete pain trying to get the tablet recognised. Now very pleased with the build and apps, all running very smooth.
thanks again
Glad you had no problems. There are some minor bugs. Flash doesn't work for the camera. And check your memory capacity. I use Apex Launcher for my home screen which organizes better for me.
