Hello i am following this Evo 3d and Optimus 3d threads intens about 4 months.
i read a lot of reviews of both devices, seen many youtube reviews ant other all reviews i could find on internet. The HTC device is released a few weeks ago in USA and the optimus 3d is available for a few days here in Holland.
My conclusion for both devices is that what i have reading is that Optimus 3d is the winner on overall speed an 3D quality based on the compairison reviews of both devices.
I am not pre judged on any brand because i am selling cellphones.
My question is: how many have no problems on Evo 3D? please give us a small story about how long you get Evo 3D and how many time you spend to "play with" the device each day.
are you satisfied about the device? and what you find about the 3D quality...
i hope you can understand my story because my English is not soo good.... I am from Holland
Got my 3d on launch day, play with it constantly. A couple foreclosures...haven't really seen any in a few weeks. Didn't take any OTAs. No problems really. Aspect ratio sucks, but thats a matter of opinion...

I got my phone on the 25th of June, I use it pretty heavily, typically as long as I have a free hand I'm doing something on it. I don't really have any issues I notice on a day to day basis. The overall quality of my phone is pretty good, much better than the samsungs I am used to.
I didn't buy the phone because of the 3d feature, and although I have messed with it, I can't really comment on how good, bad, or average it is.

I haven't had any problems with my Evo 3d at all since launch day.....And I use it all day long....I was surprised too being as tho I had to return my original Evo about 3 times in like a 2 or 3 month period when I had got it on launch day..... I've also heard alot of good things about the Optimus 3d, but I wouldnt go by that since the phone isn't out yet....I heard alot of bad reviews for the Evo 3d, but it turned out to be a great phone when I got it into my posession....The 3d was a surprise that it was so clear and actually worked, but I don't think its for everyone because some people just arent able to focus their eyes long enough to grasp the concept.....but to answer, I am very pleased with my Evo 3d
None, I ran through the bug list & havent tripped over any issues or hardware defects. My EVO also had the latest update installed on it, in-store.
Thank goodness.
HW 002.
Got mine June 22nd and I'm happy to report no issues at all. Came from the EVO 4G, and don't regret the upgrade, the 3D is better in every way. Battery life is awesome already, going to be even better once this thing is rooted.

I'm glad to report that since ditching the nexus s 4G for the 3D I haven't had any issues whatsoever. Vanilla gingerbread is nice, but sense 3.0 is IMO even nicer. HTC did a great job with it. I love the speed of the phone and battery has been surprisingly good, I had the OG EVO and was expecting battery life of the evo 3D to be about the same but it's actually been lasting quite a bit longer for me! (Maybe because I rarely use the 3d features)
Got mine in launch day as well. It's been great. One or two little things have happened but nothing to really piss me off. Overall it has run great for me. Had to reboot twice I think because green hornet was playing in 2d. Other than that I can't think if anything that has gone wrong. As far as ur decision goes I think u really have to look at manufacturers. HTC always has latest and greatest releases and has great support for their devices. Other manufacturers u are pretty much stuck with what u get when u buy it. Optimus might be a flagship device because of the 3D so might not be that bad but I will always put my money on HTC when it comes to software support.

Which phone does?
Had mine since launch day. Second day of playing with it soft reset itself. After that it ran flawlessly. I did do the OTA by mystake when I first left the Sprint store (not paying attention). Signal seems to roam and/or drop in places where my EVO 4G was damn near full bars. Then today my screen went blank and won't come back on. It's still responsive I just can't see ****. Will be at Sprint when I get off work to exchange.
Nevertheless I am VERY satisfied with the phone and I won't be switching to anything else. Great phone with great features.
Pre-order buyer and got phone before launch. Zero problems. Phone runs flawless.
Yep flawless

No problems here.
No problems except for Sprint's duct tape and bubble gum network.
Got mine two days before launch and have barely put it down. If this phone were on Verizon's network, I think I would be dead and in heaven.
Sent from a 3VO. Long live the EVO.
I've spent several hours per day for the last week with my Evo 3D, haven't noticed any significant issues yet. Loving it - fast as hell, and the 3D surpasses anything I expected out of the device.
Mine has been perfect so far, no overheating, fast (using sense), no light leakage, no dead pixels, no tilted screen, data speeds are getting better (for crappy 3G anyway)
Im a happy camper

Hi,
I have had my Evo since last year & I have been debating on switching to the Photon (I am not a fan of 3d so the Evo isnt for me). I was curious how much faster the Photon would be in terms of real world usage.
Any former Evo (not 3d) owners out there that can fill me in?
Thanks,
Rich
Alot, not to go into details, go to Sprint store like I did and play with it!
Very good. The dual core CPU & additional RAM make a huge difference in Android's performance capabilities.

Substantially quicker! Don't get me wrong....the EVO is still a deserving player, but the hardware upgrades just make everything...."snap". No regrets here.
Everything is faster, trust me. I compare them all the time and this phone does everything with ease. Gonna still hold on to my evo for a while though. Although the phone is fast, there are some slight bugs that need working out. Back to speed though. This phone is awesome at games and the evo just doesn't seem able to keep up. The photon plays every game with ease and that includes tegra games.

You are going from an Evo 4G to the Motorola Photon 4G, the first Evo was an evolution, and now we've moved on to HINT: BIGGER and BETTER things, to the Samsung Epic 4G, Evo 3D, etc, now you are here with a NVIDIA Tegra Dual-Core Processor with 1GB Ram, and roughly 9GB internal memory, and I would say AT LEAST 60% Faster.
Remember, you're with NVIDIA.
If you ask me to define NVIDIA, I'd say FAST!!!
the quadrant scores completely crush the evo
ill do a screen grab if i get some time at work
Photon Speeds = Much Snappier/Faster Feel...
I just sold my beloved Evo for the Photon via BestBuy a little under 2 weeks ago. I really, really did not want/plan on giving up my evo. But BB offered me 149buks for the evo and i took it.
Back to the OP question. Is the Photon faster? YES, you will notice from first use it feels much snappier. I will equate the speed difference to that I felt from my HTC Touch Pro 2 to the Evo. TP2 was slow, Evo felt really fast, Photon feels even faster. I thought the Evo was super fast, and it is. But I really didn't think there could be a big improvement over the evo in a phone. Luckiy I was wrong
I know your never supposed to ask for an ETA but.... Is anyone on the Cyanogenmod development team planning on supporting the Photon? I am a minimalist & want my phones running AOSP.

1. It's a lot faster than the old EVO which I also had.
2. DO NOT upgrade, wait for the Samsung in September. The no audio on phone calls is a very serious problem with the Photon and one that shows no signs of being fixed 100% by any means or method.

I have absolutely loved my evo since launch but I'm getting itchy to upgrade to the photon. What is holding me back is all the little bugs being reported. Sounds similar to alot of the bugs in the initial evo launch. I was lucky with my evo but I don't want to push my luck with the photon. I think I'll wait a few months and see how the issues shake out.
Evo OG could leap tall buildings in a single bound. P4G can leap 1 and 2 thirds buildings in a single bound.

You will notice the speed difference in most things. Dual core runs Android much better.
As for the comments about waiting for the Samsung Within, tired of hearing about it honestly. I was excited about that phone coming and have heard great things about it. However, still no guarantee it will be faster than the Photon or do some of the things the Photon does. Plus, when the Within actually does come out it will just get trampled by the quad core offerings potentially coming Q4 this year/Q1 next year along with all the other phones.

Its a dual core phone. So web browsing, load times, app loads system writes reads, a lot will be faster. Motoblur sucks, so the home screens, Widgets and most everything that isn't CPU intensive lags like hell, like on any blur phone.
I played with the photon extensively and decided to go with the 3d simply for sense 3 and the pentile display pixel issue drove me crazy
The photons to gonna be faster, by a lot 95% of the time, have better battery, get better reception, take better pictures, and turn on faster.
Being an og evo owner also, I have to ask... why don't you like the 3d?

False. What's your source for that? I know my source is reliable, and there is a fix in the works at Moto right now. The problem has been pinpointed, and an update should be out shortly.
The wife and I were in a 4G area today and did some side by side speedtest. My Photon averaged double her speeds on here EVO. Ran about 6 test each and it was almost double everytime.
I went from the OG 4G to the 3D to the Mo-Pho & I am definitely a happy camper! Wrote uh blog about it, like the hear it? Here it go:

Hi I've been sneaking into this forum every so often. I have a s2 and love it but also love technology so looking now at 3d i've looked at evo and lgs version but don't know if it's worth the update to 3d. I also love sense and on some reviews the evo is flawless in speed..
What do you users think?
What score does it get on quadrant
Also if you take a picture or video in 3d can it be converted back to 2d for printing and viewing on pc
Thanks in advance

All pictures can be viewed in 2D as well and it usually asks to convert to 2D when emailing. Not sure about the video, I do not take much video in 3D.
SGS2 scores higher in Quad but that is really nothing to go by.
Evo 3D camera shutter lag is torture and makes any moving object impossible to shoot. I am looking forward to the better camera on the SGS2.
Either way, they are both top of the line devices and you can't go wrong with either.
You also have to think, we are EVO 3D owners and are excited to try something new. It doesn't mean the SGS2 will be better for us, I think at this point we are just hoping it is. We will know for sure come next week though.
i always had good experiences with samsung phones...
until they started making "smart phones"... they aren't very smart about it.
the phone has great hardware, yes. but samsung phones lack the support that HTC has from them to us (the consumers). HTC is ALWAYS right on top of problems that arise, while samsung is a little more like sprint in the customer service department. kind of like "if somebody complains, we'll deal with it. if not, whatever."
I have owned 4 samsung phones. three of them were flawless and perfect. the most recent, however, was a samsung moment. that thing was a nightmare. and i got no help from sprint or samsung with it.
stick with google nexus phones, or HTC. that is my new mode now. and i love the hell out of my 3D by the way. nothing this thing can't handle, and it will only get better as more software is dev'd for it in the hacking community.
**edit... to the OP, it is extremely important that you remember this one thing... the software inside the phone is just as important to the performance as the hardware...
I have both I decided why do I have to choose someday I pop the sim in the evo somedays the galaxy s2, beautiful screen very then and fast, but I gotta admit I have little more fun playing with the evo 3d.

Can you please give more detail.....What makes the 3D more fun? How do the screens compare? Is the Evo's qhd display overshadowed by the Super Amoled Plus screen even though it has a lower res? Does the SGS2's camera have the shutter lag like the 3D?
The UI is just enjoyable on the e3d. And its very fast ..the differences in that regard is neglible..quadrant is useless except for fps and for evaluating your own phone after flashing a rom etc. The shutter lag isn't terrible it just isn't instant and I'm sure it will be improved with an update eventually ..I for one have taken nice shots with the e3d but yes fast moving objects can be hard to capture but most smartphones suffer from that ..either way you would have a super phone and def ahead of the curve ..software has a ways to go to catch up to the hardware within these devices
I actually love the SGS2. I got one in Mid June or July as the EVO 3D wasn't available here in Asia yet. I have no regret in getting the SGS2 first as it's one POWERFUL phone. But I bought the EVO 3D just last week and REALLY ENJOYING the built, solidness, and the 3D features. I love watching 3D Youtube even though it looks like it's damaging my eyes LOL! But if you were to read text alot, the EVO 3D is sharper as it has a higher resolution. Colors aren't comparable to the SGS2 due to the super amoled plus display. So you can't go wrong with either of them. Both has different features, etc. I just can't pass up the idea of not having both of them as it won't be fair to one or the other
i dont like the colors on the amoleds. yeah blacks are great but but the other colors kill me. the whites on my evo3d shine compare to my nexus.

I'm a sense lover, so the EVO 3d fits my needs well. I'm also easily satisfied, and as long as it does what I want it to do, I'm good. I live in big city where 4G is ubiquitous and fast, tho I'm mostly on 3g to save battery. Whenever I need to download large files or watch youtube vids tho, 4G always does me good.
I have yet to mess with my phone, so everything is stock. Sense UI is pretty, but also fast. I do a lot on my phone as I'm mostly away from my computer. From online banking to watching movies, to playing games, to navigating the city, to listening to streaming music, and much more. This phone makes it all happen.
I know if I had the sgs2, I'd be doing the same things on it, and be raving about it as well. But I have this phone, so I make the best of it.
3d is awesome to me. People are always delighted to see it. And it gives the phone a special niche. At first tho, my eyes did hurt after prolong viewing, but I can honestly say after almost 3 months of having the device, my eyes don't hurt anymore. It's like evolution. My eyes have adjusted to it.
The only thing I hate abt he EVO 3d is that while charging, it slows down. I feel the difference. Its like night and day. Other than that, its an awesome Android phone, and as long as you don't have hardware or software related problems with the phone, its a very delightful and enjoyable experience.

I also have both. I got the S2 about 8 weeks ago and love it but I was torn between it and the sensation at the time. So when the Evo 3d was launched here in Canada I broke down last week and pick it up. Both phones are great.
Hi folks,
I'm hoping to pick your brains for advice and info on the Evo 3D.
I'm an ex HTC Desire owner and HTC Sense fan, after selling my desire I bought a sim free Incredible S, but after trying 3 different handsets all 3 were returned due to signal loss on the O2 network.
I'm now looking for my next phone (sim free non contract) and I'm struggling to settle on a good one! I thought I was set on the standard HTC Sensation, but after seeing numerous mentions of 'dust under screen', poor battery life, death grip etc, I have to say that I've just about given up on it.
The other phone on my list is the Samsung Galaxy S II, however it's not going to have HTC Sense and I'm not a great fan of Touchwiz. I've also just seen mention of a screen burn type problem which is a bit of a concern. The other specs look quite good for the phone though.
This evening I stumbled on the Evo 3D forum! The phone looks quite nice, it has Sense, it has 3D features which don't really interest me. I also spotted a couple of familiar names in the rom dev section, LeeDroid and Baadnewz .... I thought you guys had Sensations?
So after all that waffle, what I'm really after are your opinions on the Evo 3D, what would you say are the pros and cons, what should I be aware of?
Would you still recommend the Evo 3D, given what you know now from your own experience?
Thanks very much!
I got the EVO3D mainly because I wanted to get the Sensation but I read a review that said ther EVO3D was very similar - so I went for it.
I'm happy so far - I feel as though I have an upgraded Desire HD in all aspects. The phone is probably not as fast as the SGSII, and doesn't have an 8mp/1080p camera, but other than that it seems pretty solid so far.
How's the battery life with yours?
The battery life is roughly 50% better than with the DesireHD. It lasts me through the day with no issues.
I'd wager it'd last 1.5 days in most scenarios
Any advice from other Evo owners?
I came from the EVO 4G. The 3D is faster, has more storage, and better battery life. I would recommend using a good ROM (like Warm 2.3 when its final) and maybe playing with some Kernels to get even better battery life. The 3D features are pretty useless to me personally.
A have seen at least two XDA posters in the Mynion threads talk about getting the GSII and then deciding to go back to HTC with the 3D. If you plan on using stock roms, Samsung's TouchWhiz (or whatever they call it) is far inferior to the work HTC has done with the Sense UI. I hate Samsung's proprietary UI stuff. If you plan to flash custom ROMs anyway, this isnt as much of an issue. I also feel like HTC is quicker/better about getting updates out timely and supporting aging devices. Samsung "has been" notoriously bad enough this.
Sensation been great for me but every device is different so base your purchase on what works for you. Every phone has a batch of bad phones so get insurance and get a phone there all the same at the end of the day. And like he said it so many kernals out there that
fit your needs that you'll be happy with anyone I those phones.

Just to clarify, does the Evo have the antenna as part of the back cover like the Sensation and Incredible S do?
Any death grip problems? Any screen issues, i.e dust getting under it?
Thanks again.
I came from the Evo 4g and have seen a night and day difference in the battery life. I can go the whole day with no issues. I also have rooted it and currently have Virus' Eternity 1.4.2 rom and stock kernel. The speeds are decent with the stock kernel and the battery life is good which is the main reason I haven't switched kernels yet. I recommend the 3d. I like the capability of watching 3d movies on my phone since I'm on the go most of the time it gives me the ability to watch 3d movies on a plane or where ever else I might be.
i too came from an evo, but i absolutely love the 3vo! at first i thought 3d was just a gimick, but it makes this phone a true show piece! processor is a nice lil upgrade to 1.2 which is plenty enough. plus....you can't beat the development on it! good luck!
Hi there. i have used both sensation and evo 3d
These 2 are both good phone, but, i liked the evo 3d much more for
1- the grip is far better from the sensation which have a nice design, but, not so comfortable to hold ( a bit slippery ) while in sensation you will feel much comfortable grip.
2- the response speed with sensation is beautiful and faster that the sensation.
3- the 3D screen is really nice. try downloading some videos and see for yourself. I personally liked it for videos and photos.
4- battery is good. It lasts a day without any problem with fair usage and data on.
I would vote for the evo 3d no dought. it is a very good device
Thanks
What do the Evo owners think to the still and video camera comparisons shown in the link below, would you say it's a fair representation? The Evo camera doesn't look so good in the review.
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_evo_3d_vs_htc_sensation_4g_head_to_head-review-626.php
The Sensation camera is a bit better of course, but, i did not see that the evo camera is not good.
i like the quality which i am getting from the camera. it is pretty good unless you want a unprofessional pic, then you will need a pro camera.
in summery the shots you get is pretty good since it is a phone cam not a pro cam.
I liked the clarity and colors
still it is a personal preference in the end and that was my opinion
I hope i was hepfull
I'm seeing conflicting information regarding the 2D video recording, some info states that the Evo records at 30fps, but I've also seen 24fps mentioned. Can anyome confirm either as being correct?
I'm getting a new phone soon. And this one is actually cheap and has dual core + 3D <3!
But I want your opinion if I should buy it. Why should I buy it, why I shouldn't buy it. Good custom roms. Ics, rooting and all that stuff..
Thanks for your time!

best android device i have owned, personally. if you can get your hands on one, do it and don't think twice.
it has great hardware, and with the release of ICS, that hardware is being utilized and optimized to it's maximum potential.
Great specs
OK screen
3D is a gimmick
If you like tinkering with your phones the 3d is definitely one to consider, if you can get it for a cheap price. ICS leaks have dropped, so the roms are mostly fully functional. S-OFF methods have been found for various HBOOTS so doing the above should be quite easy. All in all, get it.
What's not to like about 3D selfies
Nah seriously though, hardware is still powerful enough for everything you throw at it. The 3D is fun for a day, then I pretty much haven't touched it since, although watching 3D movies is still on my to do list. With the official leaks of ICS out the development has been going crazy and there are some truly excellent roms on offer, mdeejays and mwakious being my favourites so far.
If you can get it for a decent price then why haven't you bought it already is kinda what I'm saying

If you talk about HTC, great build quality & UI are certainties. Evo 3D, what can I say? the most cheapest device having 1GB RAM and moreover it has 3D cam & screen. its dualcore & GPU aren't as impressive as exynos' or tegra's, but how often will you need that powerful resource?

Got the 3D myself because of the CPU and other hardware specs. As others have said the 3D itself is a gimick, I dont think I've used it more than twice since I got the phone over a year ago. My only complaint about the phone is the touch screen is a little over sensitive. You can activate things just by barely brushing the screen by the slightest ammount. It takes some getting used to but other than that the phone is awsome. Also, just an fyi since it took me a long time to confirm this the evo3d does indeed have Gen-1 gorilla glass.

+ more RAM too.
1GB instead of 768MB
this phone is perfect for me...unless some gamechanging software and abilities show up i don't think i'll be upgrading for another phone this november (maybe tablet =P )
Phone is great, especially rooted with a custom Rom. It runs anything I throw at it easily. You will not be disappointed.

No one mentioned the hassle of HBOOT 1.5. Read up on it carefully. Once you get past it, there is plenty of love for this phone to make it last a good while.
cheap and good mobile phone

You make a very good point. It litteraly took me 8 hours to root this phone (Including time to temp root, backup, crack hboot, install recovery, rom and restore) and thats after doing weeks of research and knowing exactly what I was doing every step of the way. My wifes Samsung Galaxy S2 took all of mabye 15 minutes. But as the above said, once your past that its gravy and I still like this phone better than my wifes S2.
Disclaimer: I'm not here for a pissing match. I have honest concerns considering the newest line of the Evo family compared to previous versions. I'm not asking which is one is better, but simply how things are compared to the previous 2 Evo frontrunners.
1. Overall perfomance:
I'm asking about this for one reason. When I switched from the og Evo to the Evo 3d, I never really noticed a perfomance increase. In fact, in my honest opinion, the boot up time took longer. This is probably untrue, but it felt that way. To me, I can't tell a HUGE difference between roms, so that is not a factor. So is it a general improvement from the last 2? In a big way or a small way?
2. Battery life:
I could never even tell there was a bigger battery in the 3D. To me, the larger cpu just ate that much more battery, so to me it never seemed any better. Is it now? That non-removeable battery worries me since I currently have 2 batteries for my 3D.
3. LTE on CM or AOSP
The og Evo didn't take TOO long to get 4g working in CM. But the 3D....no one seems to care. I haven't really checked too deep into what roms are available, but are there any indications that LTE can be used in CM builds in the future?
Happy or meh:
I can honestly say I LOVED my OG evo. But about 2-3 months into owning the 3D, I hated it. And have since. Most of the big devs never seemed too interested in it (from my POV). I checked into swapping back, it was gonna cost a bit to do, so I didn't bother.
To sum it all up:
LOVED my og Evo, hated my 3D, wanting this one to win me over again.

Dude this phone is head over heels better in every single category. No need to get into details. If you think your OG EVO even remotely compares to this phone you may need to see a medic. Just stop procrastinating and get it.
The specs don't even compare. I've only owned the og evo (and absolutely loved it!), never the 3D. imho the evolte is far superior in all aspects to the og evo. I'm waiting to see how well dev covers this phone, especially kernels, before unlocking. I can see some great things happening with this phone in the near future! btw, I'm still flashing on my og evo just to satisfy my obsession...
New to Sprint so I can't speak on the previous EVO models, but I will say this phone is better than my Droid Charge and my Rezound ... combined! Not that the Charge adds much to that equation, but still.
I just came from an of EVO, and I will say this LTE is at least 10 times better in every respect.
