SPEAKERPHONE: Anyone having others complain? - HTC EVO 3D

First, I love my 3vo, not getting sg2 or anything else silly but I was wondering if anyone else has had their callers constantly complain that they couldn't hear them if they were on speakerphone.
Cheers!

Could you please rephrase the question?I wan't to help but your question isn't very clear.

no, people can hear me just fine when I'm on speakerphone.
now on the other hand, I have a heck of a time hearing them, need some volume hack action to get my speaker volume up to par.

Dan,have you downloaded Equalizer from the market place and jacked up the audio? I have and my back speaker is a lot louder than stock..Too loud and the speaker quality is horrible but you can boost it with that app.

Thanks for the tip, but, this puppy will be on it's way back home once my 4G charges back up. There were just too many irritating 'little things' wrong. The lack of a clear plan for root/s-off from HTC just made it unbearable. While the EQ app would help that one minor annoyance there are far too many other things that might be correctable with software--who knows. These were all things my 4G did perfectly.
No we're going to get people hating on those telling how they returned their phone, and then threads about everybody that returned their phone and then threads about people who hate threads about people who returned their phone even though previously they would all post threads saying "so just return your phone", hating on people who posted about returning their phone.
Nvrmind, I'll just start a new thread about it...lol

Hey man its your money and your phone..Do what you think is best for your purchase..Just spreading the tip out there that there is a way to easily boost the audio..I was actually going to return it for that very reason(back speaker too low) But that App(equalizer) did the trick.
It still sucks when it comes to playing music but for movie audio, voice mails and speaker phone its an A+..Wish I had the Evo 4G speaker but I also wish my Evo 4G took 3D Pictures and video..So screw the music,i'll just wear head phones.
Enjoy what ever phone you go to man, have a nice night.

Thanks man, I appreciate the civility. That's becoming increasingly rare around here these days.
So, yeah, I brought it back. It wasn't easy. That screen had gorgeous resolution and accurate color...and I have anticipated this phone for months, chomping at the bit the whole way...but the weak signal finally put me over the tipping point today after losing a few work calls and not being able to get on XDA in the bathroom at work...that in addition to the completely wacky camera antics (2-3 second to snap a pic, green hue on flash, even worse low-light performance), aforementioned low speaker, irritating 16:9 aspect ratio (narrow portrait), some apps not behaving smooth (launchpro!??)...and a slew of even smaller and irritating things.
If they fix the radio via an update and this thing gets unlocked in a reasonable amount of time I'll be back. I think I've had my heart broken by HTC though...I'll probably wait for the SGS2 to be announced and get the NS4G once we get within 30 days of release. The NS4G radio tested nearly the same as my 4G, the 3D didn't fare nearly as well...and since my office at work and my apartment are both in fringe areas where on my 4G I can routinely pull over 1mbps (sometimes 1.5-1.7ish) but are all over the low-end of the map on the 3D--if I can even get a signal--I think it's safe to say that samsung's sucky 3G radios are at the very least marginally better than the 3D's...perhaps even more than that.
Thanks again.

Received my EVO 3D......

Very nice improvement over my EVO 4G.
The only negative is the fact I have to deal with the forced password from my IT policy again since I don't see any work arounds yet.
There is a reason for the forced password from your IT department if you want their exchange network to be open on your phone. Getting around it is just undermining the security your IT guys are trying to provide for their network.
Would you happen to have a cable to test HDMI mirroring?
How is the call quality?
after all the noise made over in Sprint forums ...lol...you got yours before me
So you like it pretty well so far? Got a nexus s and plan to swap for the 3d before my 30 days is up (signed up to get the port credit just in case they didnt extend it again, which i just looked and they did...)
Hopefully I wont have a problem with getting one in the next 3 weeks.
Hows the qhd screen? Does the 3d effect work well for you?

No HDMI cable yet.
Call quality seems fine. I don't use the phone much but I just called my dad and he said I sounded fine. He was in the bathroom taking a dump so a little bit of an echo on his end......for obvious reasons.

So far I really like it. Coming from the EVO 4G it isn't a 'huge' change so a lot of things are normal. It isn't like coming from a Blackberry. Love the sense 3.0.
Screen is really nice. Side by side with the EVO 4G you can really see the improvement. I'm not a big fan of the 3D because it messes with my eyes. It is cool...but not worth the headache for me.
Because of the higher resolution screen, the keyboard I normaly use (SmartKeyboard Pro) is stretched a little in landscaping and seems a little too small in portrait. I'll have to try a bunch of other ones. I wasn't too thrilled with the stock keyboard at first but I'll give it a few days.

There is nothing that is harmful to the company in my email or on my phone. Plus I run Lookout on my phone. If it goes missing, I log on and lock the phone. If I can't find it I do a remote wipe. My phone is by my side 24/7 so I know when it is missing within minutes.
The password just ruins the Sense experience. No point of having shortcuts on the lock screen when you have to type in a password.

I've been running a Sense 3.0 ROM on my EVO for weeks, and I have a passcode -- I would even if my employer didn't require it. The lockscreen is still extremely useful with a passcode. Sure, it's not immediate access, but it still decreases the amount of navigation to get to common tasks.

Call quality was good enough for me. I have never expected crystal clear calling from a cell phone. I think that expectation was set back in the days of older networks and crap phones. I can hear who I was talking to, there was no distortion, and nobody was complaining about how I sounded.
I will set it up on my Ford Sync system in my car today and test it then too.
Loving mine so far. 3D pics are uber cool, the 3D Video equally cool, can't wait to hook it up to the TV.
Only complaint - No flashlight app. Haven't tried any market ones yet though.

and in landscape its a bit wider then the 4g

Evo 3d quality control

I'm not trying to bash the phone or troll so please don't violate my thread.
I'm looking to get the Evo 3d tomorrow but reading over this forum, one would think this phone has pretty bad quality control. I've heard about tilted screens, dust under the screen, dead pixels, loose buttons, yellow tinted images etc.
Every phone has its issues and there will always be some phones that should have ended up in the reject bin that somehow get shipped out but I'm worried that the Evo 3d may be worse than usual. Does this seem to be the case or are these issues simply being exaggerated on this forum?
Thanks

No loose buttons or anything of the nature on my device , so far so good, and yeah they always find something wrong with the phone , you should been last year for the EVO 4G forums were hammer about it last year, just get the device and judge it on your own terms after 3 weeks if you think is no for you just get another device which most likely will have some problems too, I do recomend insurance tho cause you never know what could happen

Don't judge a phone by its forums. Simple as that. If you do, every phone looks like its riddled without issues. People go to forums looking for answers about issues with the phone. Just get one. If you happen to have one of the issues (check before leaving the store) just hand it back over and ask for another. It really is that easy. That's what I did. I got one without issues first time though. But I went through a standard checklist I have in my head before leaving the store.

Well the tilted screen is nothing, I am a perfectionist, and Im able to get over the slightly and barely noticable tilted screen. In fact I didnt notice till people complained about it. the loose 2d 3d button is also no biggie. Yellow tinted screen? I dont think you would realize you had it unless its next to a blue tinted screen in which case you may prefer the blue over the yellow, but alone it make no difference.
Unfortunately alot of is true I replaced one for stuck green pixels and this ones screen has a slight tilt , a tiny missing spec of paint bye the menu button and light bleed at the bottom . Lots of folks here would return it for just one of these issues but I can live with it not a big Deal unless your putting it under the microscope .
I say inspect it well before you leave the store and if nothing jumps out at you don't look for it

This same issue keeps me from buying one. I am off contract and would like to buy one off of eBay because they run for about 350 NIB there but I am afraid to get a bad one.
But also granted as some posters said the og evo also had problems during release as well. Maybe it's best to wait until they get through the first gen releases
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
it is no worse than any other phone that i have been a part of.. there are always bad eggs in a batch, you just pray you dont get one.. when the hero came out forever ago, it had the dust under the screen issues, i know people that had all kinds of issues with the orig evo.. the problem in the 3d forum is you are getting a lot of very vocal people, all coming from multiple devices.. and there is a lot of ignorace floating around too.. as well as people are looking for things not to like since we dont have permenant root yet..
i personally have no issues with the phone, i know several other people who have it as well, and they have no issues.. i wouldnt worry about it, if you get one with an issue, take it back..

+1 this.
I'm on my 2nd completely perfect E3D. I went through a bunch trying to find one with a good radio and couldn't. They all suck...but not as bad as the Samsung radios...trust me. It is likely that it is mostly cosmetic in nature anyway.
...and those other ones I had them open up and turn on? All perfect in all of the ways that are typically mentioned as fubar on this forum. The only thing I noticed was vary levels of screen-tilt. Nothing major. I'm anal about stuff like that, but, I didn't even find any of them distracting...though I did make it a point to take one without any.
That's how forums are. When I went looking for a new truck I looked around, 95% of the people there are people who just had **** luck...the other 99.5% of the people who purchased these trucks had none of those problems. But, when you get something and it performs as expected you don't tell everyone about it--but when something is screwed up you tell everybody.
Same for my current apartment. I read on all the rental sites and you would think this place was a vermin infested ghetto that had piss-smell in the hallways, ceilings caving in, holes in walls and daily knife fights in the parking lot....even though it they are actually the luxury apartments with every amenity...I have not once seen "garbage in all the halls all the time" that was mentioned, nor have I ever once "smelled them smoking drugs" in the stairwells. The dumpsters are never "over flowing with trash" and not only is the parking lot not "full constantly i have to park a mile away from my house" as stated by many people, there is in fact 4-5 times more parking than tenants....
When I ran a computer repair shop it seemed obvious that compaq couldn't make a computer that ran to save their goddamned life...cuz I only saw the broken ones.
Complainers complain because they got something that doesn't work how they thought it would/is supposed to. You can't blame them for being upset and loud...but the vast majority all got something that does exactly what it is supposed to (for the most part) so has no need to go on and on about it.
Ide do craigslist not ebay ide have to see it my friend at radio shack let me inspect 2 the first time and three the next they all had (dust ?) Under the screen . So I've got the best of five and have the issues mentioned above
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
All valid concerns. I don't think the phone has bad quality control, just some really minor stuff that perfectionists (xda-ists) notice. When you go to the store, ask them to take it out of the box and tell them you want to inspect the screen BEFORE it is activated. Don't let them tell you they can't power it up without activating it. That's not true. If you see it first, you can judge for yourself.
Mike
Here's a tip launch the camera app on 3d and cover the lens to make the screen black . The first one slipped bye because the Green specs where only visible on 3d weird I know . Didn't notice till I watched the stupid green lantern movie

Thanks for the responses.
I plan to ask the sprint store to let me inspect the phone before activating. I should be able to check for dead pixels easily along with loose buttons. To be honest I can't even notice the tilted screen from the pictures posted here and I certainly didn't notice it on the evo 3d on display at the sprint store. I hope I get a good unit.
An awesome phone
I guess I'm lucky -- hardware-wise, my 3D seems perfect.
Firmware-wise, I could give you a list of (mostly minor) areas where IMHO the 3D is a step backward from the EVO 4G. However, I acquired my 4G only in January of this year, by which time HTC and Sprint must have ironed out most or all of the issues. With a few more OTA updates the 3D should be unstoppable.
For me, the speed of the new CPU and Sense 3.0 are reason enough to get the 3D. When you go to test the phone, check out the new weather app, for example -- sweet!

Yeah, I'm not too terribly worried about software issues. For that we have HTC which will probably address most issues with OTAs and also the great community here to offer further support.
I am on my second... First one was perfection except 3g reception was non-existent. This one has much better reception, but all the hard buttons are mushy and non responsive and the ****ing 2D/3D button rattles like a banshee. None of these were issues in first one. Looks like I am gonna chance a third try tomorrow.

Quality control on these phones is aweful. I've been through 3 in 4 days. I would have had my 4th today but I'm sick of returning phones. First phone took green pics. 2nd one took blotchy pics and the cameras were not even close to being centered properly and my 3rd and current one is having problems with the screen becoming unresponsive.
I was the first person in my town to own a EVO 4g and that phone was awesome from day one.

I agree with what most of you guys have said. To add to that tho, I think with anything tech related, the people with problems are only a small minority, and because they do have problems they're gonna be the loudest, and that's all you'll ever hear esp. on a site like this. It's like eating out at a restaurant. I'm betting money that 9 times out of 10 you're more likely to go out of your way to write a novel online abt a restaurant you got horrible service from, than you are to even think abt reviewing the restaurant at all if you got average service. So I would say that you see more complaint threads because the majority of us with good EVO's don't start threads abt how average our EVO's are. Although if people do have legit problems, by all means they should be allowed to let the world know. It just sucks when their problems come from them being OCD, then it really is like a bad apple spoiling the barrel or however that saying goes.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Simply put if you get it you'd better check it out before you even leave the store. HTC's QC on this phone was absolutely terrible. How they managed to miss the tons of phones with tilted screens is beyond me.
+10
i agree this tread
Optimus 3d have only battery problem= no problem
It seems like everyone at XDA has something in common. We are all OCD and we will find something wrong with almost everything.
To a normal person, not one issue here would have any effect on them or would they even know what we were talking about.

[Q] In-Call Voice Quality Better on Rooted EVO3D With Flashed ROMs?

I've already tried changing the codecs (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194947&highlight=voice+quality) and am just shy of taking a triangle file to the mic opening on my case.. (or exchanging the phone at Sprint)...
So.. My question is.. Has anyone who has had bad call quality with the stock ROM, then rooted their phones and flashed new ROMs have any issues with call quality with the new ROMs?
I'm avoiding taking my phone back as it is a magnificent piece of hardware, however my wife is ready to do it for me if I can't get the call quality improved.

I feel your pain! I took my 3VO back within the 30 days because of the "muffled mic" problem. My favorite tech gave me a brand new one, no questions asked. But, I still have my husband complaining, as well as some friends. I haven't tried changing the codecs, though. I did root my phone and install TWRP recovery. I haven't flashed a ROM, yet, though. So I can't tell you if a custom ROM will work. I am going to try the triangle file, though. Probably today. I had thought part of the problem was my case, which is the Best Buy Platinum. It's made by Seidio. But, taking it off makes no difference. So, I will try filing the back of my Evo. I will report back. I'm also going to choose and flash a ROM this weekend. I was just waiting for a chance to get a Class 10 16GB sdcard from my local Microcenter. I'm just hoping it's a REAL Class 10...
I guess you can try exchanging your 3VO. Just letting you know I had the same problem with the second one.
My husband says he has no problem hearing me from my 3d, but he always sounds muffled when we talk. I'm going to root his 3d this weekend and probably file the mic hole. I've done both of those things to mine already. Nobody complains about my voice quality -- before or after root -- but his is horrible.

Hmm.. Well, I guess it won't help to exchange it then.. Sucks because I use it for business as well and my clients that are located in Colorado had made a comment about it.
Maybe filing open the mic hole and/or flashing a ROM will do the trick (or any combination thereof)

Just wondering if you file the mic hole and if it helped? I changed the codecs, but that didn't do anything for me. I've tried taking off the back of my phone, but that doesn't seem to help the muffled mic issue for me. So, I figure if taking off the back won't help, filing the hole won't either. Might be time to talk to my Sprint tech friend...

What settings did you use with Volume+? I tried it, but didn't hear any difference. I'm wondering if HTC used more than one brand of mic in our 3VOs? We know they used at least 2 different screens. Maybe one mic has higher gain and the kernel is set so that the mic in our phones is squelched? I asked my Sprint tech friend if HTC might address the problem with an update, but he said HTC would have to see it as a problem. Apparently not very many people have complained, at least not to Sprint. Sorry for the long, rambling post.
I tried some tests today. It makes no difference if I'm holding my phone, I'm still muffled. If I plug in my wired headset, my voice is much louder. If I used a voice recorder application, rather than make a call, my voice is louder too. Of course the voice recorder application might have the gain turned up in case you're trying to record something that is not right by the mic.

At first I was mad that you suggested this. But, I tried holding my phone vertically in front of my mouth, with the mic right in front of my mouth. Voila! The other person can actually hear me. Now to figure out how I can hold it so I can hear them, as well. Normally I hold my phone where the speaker is loudest for my ear and angle it towards my mouth, so the mic is near it. Too bad the modification to file out the hole on the back of the phone near the mic doesn't seem to help...

[Q] Echo/I hear myself when talking to a person. Defective Photon? or known issue?

Hi,
Just got my Photon, and it seem's when talking to someone i can hear myself talk. On speakerphone it's fine. I checked and the echo is on my end, the other person does not hear it. I went to another sprint store to test floor model and i also hear it. It's not horrible, but you can definitely tell that you hear yourself as your talking.
Does anyone else have this? I'm a little worried that this might be a known defect since i noticed this on another photon? Can anyone comment?
thanks

I've not had this issue or heard others complain, but I've had this happen on occasion with all past phones. I chalked it up to tower and signal strength and could never reproduce it intentionally. I'd sometimes have to ask the other person if I could call them back and it went away on the callback.
BTW - my fat finger hit thanks instead of quote, so you've got a head start on your thanks meter.
Usually (on any phone) when hearing yourself or echo; turn the volume down.
I've actually been hearing this too, but it's odd. Not a normal echo. Instead, it almost sounds like the phone is hollow and my voice is echoing back through the physical shell of the phone.
This is oldschool sound y'all just used to the phones that cancel your voice out.

That's exactly right! You explained it better than me lol. It sounds hollow and i hear my own voice back.
Atleast i wasn't imagining it. What sucks is that i hope it's not a global issue, hopefully my phone is defective or there's a setting i need to change. Going to go back to the store today and see what they tell me.

Yeah but this is a premium phone, this isn't an oldschool phone lol
i am gonna go with criptix as well. This is actually a feature I missed.
So there's nothing that can be done? Is this a software or harware issue? i guess worst come to worst i'll try to go back to the evo, but i really like the phone
Under call settings, try switching the "voice privacy" setting. Someone in another thread said this helped.

I saw that too in my google search, it didn't work. I even tried switching to Sprint Only under networks and still the same thing. I really hope this is just a defective phone, i cant imagine this skipped motorola's quality control.
This is intentional guys. It's not a defect or a hardware/software issue. It's designed to give you a richer sounding conversation. Other phones /manufacturers have been too cheap/lazy to do this, I'm glad moto did. There aren't any settings you can change to "fix" it because there isn't anything to fix. The swapping the phone won't do anything either.
The phone is working as it was designed to.

Richer sound? I call this a major quality control f*ckup. Nothing personal towards you, just my opinion. I should not hear any other noise then the intended one. I will be going back to my evo until they fix it.
In any event thanks to everyone for clarifying this.
It's an intentional design decision to fix the problem of people rudely (and unnecessarily) shouting into cell phones in public places. Think back to your childhood, when you made phone calls on a real non-cordless landline phone whose wires had a direct signal path from the handset all the way to the central office. Those phones echoed back a small amount of your voice from the earpiece, and that was exactly how people liked it because if it stopped, you knew beyond doubt that something happened to the phone line and you were now wasting your breath talking. It also kept you from shouting into the phone, because you would have annoyed yourself as well as the person unfortunate enough to be on the other end of the line.
I'm glad Motorola is now officially non-evil. HTC and Samsung have come a long way, but Motorola is a company that genuinely knows how to make a *telephone* and how to design radios that work really well. There's a reason why Motorola has survived into the 21st century despite hardcore competition from Japanese technology and cheap Chinese imports -- their best stuff is really, really good. One advantage of being a company that's been around for about a hundred years is the fact that they have engineers who've worked for them since the 70s and REALLY understand analog signal design. Motorola has guys working for them who understand radio and analog signals with the same passion that we understand digital electronics and programming. It makes a difference, and it shows
The echo has happened to every cell phone I have ever had. Have even had it on some land line calls. It is not an every time thing, just once in a while. I do not think there is anything you can do to prevent it.
When I start hearing my voice its usually because the other person hasme on speaker or they have their in call volume too loud.

I liked this feature immensely when I had my photon. Definitely made the conversations sound richer!

Guys...... this feature is technically called "Sidetone" and I'm personally very glad this is in the Photon.
You ever been around some jackass who is basically yelling into his phone (which never actually helps the other party "hear" better)? I bet sidetone would have helped quiet him down a bit. It helps to keep your voice under control as well simply mimicking what you hear anyway when naturally talking out loud. Your head has builtin sidetone
Hello everyone,
I'm considering getting the Motorola Photon mainly for its sidetone and wondered if you still get the sidetone when using a headset thru the 3.5mm jack?
Thanks!
Craconia

[Q] Rezound problems with call quality, advice please?

I got my rezound on Dec 3rd at Amazon Wireless during that 1 cent sale.
The first one had some issues, so since then I've had 1 replacement.
I know its past the date of no return, but curious what my options would be, and what you guys think I should do.
People constantly complain that my voice is cut off often, and/or muddled, yet the always sound good to me. At this point i'm thinking its a signal issue. I have the extended battery and this problem gets worse when i'm using it.
So, tonight the fiance tells me that my phone is low, to speak up, blah blah. Well I am speaking up and its frustrating. These are issues that one shouldnt have to deal with on a new device.
My previous phones: Motorola Rokr (I think), LG Chocolate, Motorola Droid, and the HTC Incredible didnt know exhibit these issues at all, and I never once had anyone complain in the last 5 years till I got the HTC Rezound.
I'm holding the phone in multiple ways, making sure not to cover any holes.
What would you do? Is the only thing I have available to me is going through Amazon Wireless for a refurb? Or is this a build quality that I will experience again and again. BTW, I live in a city, with excellent 4g coverage, and I know a neighbor has a new Moto Razr with 0 issues, and he rubs it in quite often.
Thanks for any advice you have to offer.
Update: Well I got my Razr Maxx and have played with it a few hours. Anything I say is just my opinion, so don't shoot me.
The Maxx's call quality is better, and the callers said I sound much more clearer than any of my other phones (Chocolate Touch, Incredible, Rezound). I'm getting a bit better signal (dbm) here at my place, but I care about the quality of my calls and my data connection the most, and they are doing fine.
The camera isnt as bad as ive been reading in the reviews. The pictures i've taken are lacking a tad bit of sharpness that the Rezound had. This could be fixed via a 3rd party app. Will look into it.
The UI is about as smooth. But the wallpaper in Motoblur scrolls with the screen and it still keeps the smoothness. I installed Go Launcher EX and its as smooth as the incredible for me. On the Rezound Go launcher was fairly blah performance wise.
Smart actions rock. I usually use Tasker and smart actions does enough that I won't be loading tasker until I see a need.
The display, well, nothing beats the Rezounds display. HD movies on the Maxx are decent, but not as sharp as the Rezound. I believe the Rezound has 90 PPI or so on the Maxx and you can tell.
The speaker for music sounds decent, with a bit more bass (on a speaker that small, not sure you want to call it bass), and sounds pretty good.
Battery Life is great, but with a 3300 mah battery, what do you expect. I already set a smartaction for 12:30am to 7:00am to turn off wifi, data, turn on airplane mode (wasnt sure if airplane on this phone would disable wifi), and a few other things. Good stuff, but nothing that a third party can't do.
Motoblur seems to have apps to do Remote Desktop, and DLNA works fine with my WDLIVEPLUS box.
I've already rooted, and froze some Verizon Apps.
I know this is a Rezound forum and you are probably asking "Why is he talking about a dang Maxx?!" A few pm'ed me to just compare the two phones once I got it. I won't be doing a review or anything
i'd check to make sure the antenna contacts on the extended battery cover are making a secure connection with the phone. possibly try applying a slight amount of electrical grease to each contact.
Update: I'm on my third Rezound now, and all have had the problem with my voice periodically not being heard or muffled to the person I am calling.
I'm baffled as to why I am having these issues.
A customer service rep actually advised me to activate my old Incredible on my line (and give up my unlimited 4g) until HTC has a fix for my problems. Yea right.
I wrote a long letter to Verizon, and if I don't hear back from them today I'll be contacting Corporate.
I'll try to get into another phone I suppose, but I don't like my choices: GNexus (crappy signal), Razr (crappy battery). There is the Razr Maxx, but I'm sure they wont even offer to replace me with that.
*Sigh*

Yes, I did the OTA on two of the replacement phones. I still had the problem before and after. Thanks for looking out though.
Yet another update: I talked to verizon support again about my Rezound and the issues. They offered me a Thunderbolt, Charge, Bionic, or a Revolution.
I told them that I would take no less than a Nexus or Droid Maxx at this point. He said that those phones are not on his list. The phones he offered are a big step down from the Rezound, so I declined. Not sure what to do at this point, but I did ask him to escalate this (he was a supervisor) and he put in a ticket to have it escalated.
If anyone ever has any advice regarding my situation, please feel free to chime in.
I'll post as my saga continues, even though I'm sure no one really cares
Hmmm. I'm interested. My wife says I sound muffled at times when I'm on the rezound. I never thought of it as an actual phone issue.
My experience with this is
1. Seems to be when I'm on speaker.
2. Never happens when I'm using ear piece.
3. Updated radio and it since hasn't happened but once when on speaker.
Good luck!

You could be experiencing similiar hardware issues, or possibly something to do with the noise canceling microphone. I wish you luck though since I know this muffled sound problem can be annoying, but at least i'm not alone (although i've only heard of 2 other people with similar issues).
Feb 3rd Update: Talked to Verizon yet again about my muffled sound issues. I received an email from HTC today asking me to have Verizon re-provision my account, update my prl (i was on 15098 and Verizon updated me to the same 15098), and to try a new sim card.
None of the fixes have worked. The Verizon tech called my phone as a test and within 10 seconds it started happening. I made her away of my escalation call from last night, and she said it could take a week or so for a return call since the escalation would involve a Director of something.
She credited my account $50 for my issues thus far, and is going to call me back at the end of the day as a follow-up.
*Sign* The Saga continues, but I want a plot twist where I can a working phone that I don't have to forward calls to my third line. (at least my old LG Chocolate Touch still works fine).
Really, dumb question.. are you holding the phone to far up your face. What I mean, I came from the OG droid and it was much smaller phone so when I started using the Rezound I thought the sound was way to low, people couldn't hear me ..etc.. I found I was holding the phone to high on my face so the speakers were above my ear and my microphone was almost by my upper lip. I adjusted how I held the phone and haven't had any issues since.

I have tried holding the phone in multiple different ways. I have to admit, I feel stupid having to try holding it different ways since its a...well...phone.
I've recorded my own calls to myself via google voice to test it out, and the 'muddled' issue happens via speaker, or a normal call. I have even held the phone 2 inches in front of my mouth directly and callers will still complain of not being able to hear me or understand me. I have also tested different things like putting my finger over the noise canceling microphone with no change in my problems.
Thanks for the question though. I'm convinced that i've been subjected to Gamma Radiation without my knowledge and thats why i'm having phone issues. In that case, I hope that Verizon fixes this soon with a resolution or a different phone, because they wont like me when i'm angry.
Both of mine have done this, before and after the OTA.
This is the problem when phone companies are so crazy about getting the latest and greatest out the door to beat the competition. All they care about are sales. As long as it is working 90%, just push it out the door, and by the time people are pissed off you will be selling the next phone.
These phones don't get much QC testing, that much is certain. How many of the issues over the years would have been obvious if someone actually just carried the phone around and used it for just a single day? Most of them, I wager.

Don't think this has been mentioned or not, but have you tried talking through a bluetooth? Just curious. That would rule out a mic issue if it still persists even talking through bluetooth. Then I would say you are having network issues?
Good luck

I can say that I have talked on bluetooth about 10%-15% of the time and I don't get complaints. Then again my phone sits in one spot, and maintains signal better? The reason I did not test this thoroughly is because the option of talking on bluetooth only well isnt an option.
I know that is not what you were hinting at, but I feel its a device issue and not a network, but don't quote me on that.

You are had two do this? So you know my pain!
Do you still have the phone and does it still do it?
I agree totally that these phones don't get tested enough and are sent out the door. At this point honestly, despite how much I love the phone, I'd rather have something else.
I told them I don't want another 3-4 phones sent to me. I'm really pushing for a new handset at this point, a different brand totally.
Anyway I wish you luck also. I'll keep this thread updated so that other's like myself (that are beyond the return window wherever you bought it) can hear about my trials and tribulations.
Finale: After over a dozen calls and 7+ hours on the phone with verizon, along with sending out emails to the CEO, Regional Manager, Relations, and all major executives, I received a call today from one.
To make this short, Razr Maxx is on the way, and will be here this week. Verizon Wireless could of made this easier, instead of making unrealistic guidelines for some customer issues.
When I was with Alltel I swear I would of had such an easier time with the customer service. I do not ever remember having to jump through hoops just to come to an agreement.
For any following my plight, Thanks for reading and for the helpful pms.
Good luck with your new phone.
Post back how you like it, I'm honestly curious.
I have two coworkers that have the original RAZR and absolutely hate them, but one of their main complaints is the awful battery life on a battery you can't swap out.

I'm a network admin and have a few guys at work that have a razr maxx, a nexus, and a revolution.
They usually say that the maxx has done the best for signal in and about different buildings (on server platforms with a ton of computer equipment etc). They said with generous use of the Smart Actions feature, and with generous moderate use, they get 2 days. They always seem to have a phone in their hand (they say) so im not sure what moderate use is to them (all network engineers etc). The nexus guy says his battery is gone before 5, and he often cant make calls in these random buildings. The lg revolution guy says he hates his signal and battery life, and that lg is taking forever with update and fixes.
Of course user experiences differ from person to person, so I too am curious on how the Maxx will fare with me. I'm extremely critical on my phones, and a very moderate use person (1+hours a day in calls, facebook &twitter updated every 15, emails pushed, streaming music 1-2 hours a day, games 1+hours a day, etc).
Look for a comparison here after ive had it a day or two, and will compare it to the 2+months that i've had the Rezound.
I updated the OP with my few hours of experience with my Maxx (the replacement for my 3 Rezounds).
