So work is forcing me to get either an X2, pro or an iPhone for security reasons. I'm leaning toward the X2 since I dislike Motorola less the Apple. My question is since I was able to run a script to remove HTC sense, is there or can a script be made to remove blur? If so I feel that would be a huge improvement on performance and make the wait for custom roms bearable.
Thanks in advance.
Fingers crossed
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Nope. Blur's too integrated for easy removal from the system.
I'd recommend rooting it, removing some bloatware, using a custom launcher, and running the Supercharger script.
Use a custom launcher, that was increase the speed quite a bit.
What launcher did you use? I installed ADW right away and did not notice too much of a speed increase.

I use LauncherPro Plus and Go Launcher is nice too but a bit heavier.

I used ADW EX and tweaked it for speed. There are others that are faster, but there were a few features I wanted in ADW.
+1 for launcher pro plus very fast
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
Thanks for the input. I use launcher pro now. I've used it over sense and senseless roms and it seems much smoother with sense ripped out that I was hoping there might be a way to do the same with blur.

Its the stock exchange that they're forcing me to change, so root should be no problem. I just need to make sure whatever custom rom, if x2 ever gets, will have to kept stock exchange intact

I personally have the Hero on Sprint, my dad has the Eris, is there a ROM that's similar to DarchDroid/Cyanogenmod for the Eris? Overclock, senseless, and Apps2SD are the most important features I'm after.
Have you looked in our "Droid Eris Android Development" section?

Yeah, looking through the list of ROMs here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649705
Any particular recommendations given my preferences?
EDIT: List should be updated, looks like ErisLightningBolt is the one I'm looking for.

WW is a great AOSP rom, and if you wait it out when KaosFroyo is finalized it will be superb to say the least. Diamond in the rough.
I tried it out a while back but I couldn't get a2sd to work so I went back to white widow. But it was pretty fast and smooth.

Go with CyanogenTazz. Best froyo rom. Doesn't have the same choppiness as KaosFroyo - very smooth. Amazing battery life.

What differences are there, if any, between the two roms BESIDES cosmetic differences? Is one faster or better on battery than the other? I've yet to root or flash a rom but I've read up on adb, sbf-flashing, and atrix pseudo-CWM and I think I can handle it. I've also searched but didn't find the information I'm looking for.

I had this question I was told to read the features. In nt experience grey was smoother but a little slower. Ginger was faster but buggier although I did get better battery on grey. That's just my person experience
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Gingerblur had been updated more recently.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Yeah, gingers features all seem GUI related, though both are deodexed. Guess ill have to try both but I might just try GrayBlur...
Will I lose all my data and apps when I flash? I think I do but im not sure.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
You shouldnt loose anything as they arent technically full roms just a flashable collection of themes mods and tweaks

LOL, what look do you like better? That's the one you pick.
My God, guys. They are just themes. No. There are no differences in speed or anything. It's one look vs the other. These "roms" are simply theme, maybe with some per installed apps.
haha speed difference on themes =D the only speed difference is are you on the latest update from Motorola
Only asked since gray listed speed hacks and improvements under features, and the feature list for ginger was much, much shorter. This is what happens when newbs ask questions
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
They are themed, but please remember to acknowledge the heavy changes that were made such as deodex, removal and/or addition of key apps, tweaks to enable things like sideloading, HDMI mirroring and Webtop modifications, etc.
They aren't roms, they're what people have dubbed "pseudo-roms" - a composition of changes and tweaks akin to what a rom would provide. It's the best we can do at this point. And I'm really pleased with GreyBlur to be honest. Awesome work.
I was referring to the differences, as both deodexing and the other changes were listed for both I believe. I meant memory speed hack and such listed for grayblur.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I can say I have tried both and my PERSONAL preference is with gingerblur. I ended up putting the ProDX red theme with 1% and circle battery mod over top of gingerblur and LOVE IT looks amazing. Speed wise i never really compared, and I do not use a laptop dock or car dock so never had to worry about the issues with those.

You could try a new rom like Cyanogen mod 7. It should work. Also use setcpu with it.
2.1? Time for a new ROM! From what I understand Gene's latest ROM supports overclocking, if you want to keep Sense on your phone.

Its dependent on the kernel, not the rom. If the kernel doesn't support higher frequencies then you wont be able to overclock. I'm not aware of any overclock kernels for 2.1 on the aria but somebody else might.

Yes and this was already done in new roms (Cyanogen mod) based off of an overclockable kernel.

I put the Liberated ROM on my gf's phone and it runs nicely, without overclocking. Throw in setCPU and there should be not much that can slow it down.
Ehh. I think ill just go back to an iPhone or maybe stick with getting the Inspire. This phone ruined Android for me.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
Well with that attitude you might aswell get an iPhone, it seems to fit your personality better.
Having said that... normal 2.1 sense without OC is smooth as butter, as is liberated 2.2.2 with and without OC. Or, if sense is what you're complaining about, install CM7 like others have suggested to eliminate it entirely.
I'm sorry you don't like your phone. I always like to try mine out at the store before I buy them.
Well where I got my phone they don't let you try them out. I was just going by what people said on here and else where for my phone choosing.
But the main issue is, I use my phone like a laptop almost. I check xda all the time. I use it for entertainment. I text almost 24/7. I also use it as my only music player, as my mp3 players never last long. But then phone doesn't perform well enough in most or all categories. Iphones kind of do, but I consider them overrated and bland. Even with jailbreak. I like HTC sense because its got enough eye candy, and its very user friendly. I also prefer CM7 as well due to its blazing speeds. But I want to have a phone that suits most of my needs, and I don't know if my thoughts on the inspire are correct or not, but I think it would suit me perfect, as the aria definitely does not.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
You would be better suited to get a phone with a larger screen and armv7 processor. The inspire has both of these although the battery life is not as great out of the box. I would also recommend the Samsung captivate, as it has a super amoled screen but not front facing camera. CM7 has just added support for it as well.
Sent from HTC Aria - CM7 NIGHTLY + Drowning Kernel
Well I don't really need the super quality screen of the captivate, as I'm not a freak on screen quality. But I'm near my charger quite a bit, so bl isn't a giant issue either. My biggest issue is speed and screen size. I have to type in landscape with the aria or I mess up every other word.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
I suggested the Captivate because it has an arguably better screen and can be had for cheaper than the inspire. The inspire will seem awkwardly huge coming from the aria (3.2" vs 4.3"), where as the captivate is still a step up at 4" but easier to handle with one hand. Also with ARMv7 processors you get REAL flash support (10.1+) whereas the Aria (and any other ARMv6 phone) only gets Flash lite 3.1(?) this is a huge caveat for me and will probably be my excuse to upgrade.
Well when I first got the aria, it was because looked down on touchwiz. I wanted a phone I could like out of the box, then root it for more fun. The aria sort of hit that spot, but I think the inspire will hit it out of the park. I really like sense, and thats my main reason for getting a sense phone.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
Well now I'm checking out the atrix. 50$ upgrade refurbished, sounds nice to me. Future proof myself and get rid of blur and well be all good. Right?

This is no diss to the developers because I very much appreciate their work!
And I haven't tried all the ROMs
Still, for my suite of apps, for the smoothest and most reliable op of the phone and for the longest battery life..I am back to stock. I have frozen apps, I am running the .97 radio (which has made a huge difference to me in reliability and throughput) but I am stock. Mainly, I had issue with the various incarnations of the Faux kernel and always wound up with lost widgets (I like my widgets I tried all the suggestions and still, at some point I would lose widgets with the kernel. Since this is the basis of most ROMs that did it for me (and it has to be the kernel since I had the problem on the stock ROM with the kernel).
Good luck...it is easy to go back to stock if you don't like the various ROMs.
I intend to try CM7 later on when the Faux kernel and the integration with Setcpu (both cores) is resolved and CM7 has webtop integration (I use the lapdock every day).
I've used a few of the ROM's out there and right now I am on HomeBase version 2 with Faux's latest kernel. I will say that the version of HomeBase is pretty close to stock but it has a bunch of enhancements (zipalign, memory tweaks, etc). My suggestion is to get to flashing and see what suits you. What I like you may hate. CM7 is worth a try as well and I may switch over when it become official (or I may wait for MIUI).
As for the widget issue...fix permissions fixed it for me, hundreds of restarts and I still have my widgets.
You should check out the dev section...good ROM's and good reading!!!

I was just wondering what different tweaks people use that work. The only thing I been using is jokers 1.3 kernal on cm7 and just tried 3g/4g optimizer for 3g boost. I am new here so off I'm curious as to what you guys use for tweaking things like 3g etc....
Sent from my CM7ed MoPho
Hello and welcome! 3g tweaks are one of those grey areas in which people seem to have varying results. None have ever done much for me.. However, zeroing out any proxies within your build.prop usually seems to get me slightly faster and more reliable 3g speeds. CM7 is pretty optimized from the get-go, but i urge you to make good use of that kernel. By that i mean, sit down and really set up profiles, underclock by no more than 50 if you want to be sure you get no random reboots, run the powersave governor instead of performance (with deadline), dont bother overclocking unless youre really obsessed with benchmarking scores as jokers mods to the kernel improve performance at stock frequencies and visible performance gains are minimal with overclock. If everything is set up correctly, don't bother using a battery saver app as profiles can generally do the same thing. Dont use task killer apps, they hurt battery performance and do more harm than good. Might wanna check out startup manager to dictate which apps start upon boot if you have a ton of apps. Check out an app called ad away to get rid of those pesky ads. Rom Toolbox Lite app is good for many many little tweaks as well. Thats all i can really think of right this second. Other than these i like to keep it generally clean.
What is the most accurate speed test app? I been using speedtest.net mobile.
Sent from my CM7ed MoPho
There isn't. All of them are slightly inaccurate. Best way to judge your speed is to actually download something.

You'll find your phone actually runs smoother without the task killer. They were useful in the days when phones had limited amounts of ram. With today's phones its redundant given that android has its own 'task killer' built in.
Yup. I noticed. Runs all smooth now.
