[Q] Battery stats - HTC EVO 3D

Is there any way to wipe the battery stats yet on the 3D? I remember doing it from Recovery on my OG EVO, but it was also fully rooted of course. I'd like to wipe the stats and see what's using the battery.

No, not until we get the bootloader unlocked so we can install a custom recovery.
You can see what is using the battery though, youi don't need root for that.

[Q] Questions on Backup and ROM installation

Hello, relative n00b here but I'm trying to absorb as much as I possibly can...I do have a few questions that I haven't been able to quite find the answer to.
1.) Is there a way to backup my phone the way I could with my DIncredible? (full system image...if not, something that I could easily recover to if I don't like a ROM)?
2.) What is the process for installing new ROMs? I have tried P3's pre-rooted GB build but found my battery life to be horrendous (coupled with the fact that I tried installing an incorrect version of an Atrix recovery and had to SBF back to Froyo)
Do I just load up the bootstrap and rename the ROM as update.zip, or is there an easier way to do this?
ANY help is appreciated guys, thanks!
If you're rooted already, load the bootstrap and you can flash through the modified recovery. There's no need to rename anything in that you can navigate to your zip file once in recovery & flash away just like in regular clockworkmod or amonra's recovery.

I'm also a relative noob. I'm pretty sure that P3's pre-rooted GB is the OTA update with no changes other than the fact that it's rooted. I recommend going through the update process and taking the time to reset the phone at each step. Run GB for a while without restoring your old apps and data from a back up and see if your battery life changes. (Assuming of course, that you didn't already try this).
I had really bad battery life after upgrading too. I got excited and did it without resetting the phone properly. I charged my phone to 100%. Then I SBF'd back to Froyo again, made sure to wipe the data and cache, went through set up, flashed P3's GB and wiped again and went through set up again.
Then, I did not recover my apps from a backup. I re-installed them manually from the market and set up my accounts manually. Then I calibrated my battery. After freezing quite a bit of the bloat, my phone is now getting much better battery life and is MUCH faster and smoother.

[Q] How do I restore to factory firmware ??

There seems to be something wrong with my battery life.
When I first flashed it to VillainROM, i had great battery life about 3% loss overnight
After that I tried Litening and Cognition and now back to VillainROM, my battery has gotten worse - lasts about 1 day on light use and lose about 10-15% overnight.
This isnt normal is it ? So I was wondering how can i fix it ?? I was thinking to restore back to factory and then re-flash it again..
What do I need to do ?
You can Factory Reset you device by pressing *2767*3855#, but that won't give you factory ROM, for that you have to download a stock ROM and flash it via Odin.
Regards.
Go into CWM and do a reset from there. Also do davlik and system wipe. then reflash.

HTC EVO 3D help different topics

Hello,
I am very new to this rooting n' stuff for android phones. I have been using the past three days trying to get this to work, but everyone seems to have their own way of doing these things on, so it is really, really hard to follow a guide when the other guide for installing another kernel is using something from the root and is done a whole other way. I simply can't find head and tale in this anymore.
This is why I now, as a last resort, scream for your help!
I have successfully rooted my phone using revolutionary, and I do have the clockwork mod. I also got this superuser thing to work, so I do indeed have root access. I originally wanted to do this so I could overclock it, but that hasn't been working for me either.
But first things first...
I am having a lot of trouble with the clockwork mod. When I enter recovery in the HBOOT it works just fine, but ALL menu's won't work at all. What just happens is that all the letters disappears and only the background remains. I can press to power button again to get the text back, and I can choose between the menu's but even the power off menu just make the text go away and leave just the background. To get out of it I have to take the battery out of it.
I have tried to use the revolutionary once more to download the clockwork mod. Usually it says something like "What are you doing etc. etc." but now I just get "Waiting for device". It can't seem to get in contact with the phone anymore at all.
It can still boot just fine and works very good, and I can still use adb, so maybe I am just doing something totally wrong.
This problem came when I wanted to install another kernel, RCMix3D so I would be able to use the program set CPU I bought from google play. The method of "unlocking higher frequency" on the website for the application did not work, I only get a failure from the adb.
Essentially I just wanted the ViperROM but I can't find anywhere if it works for the GSM version or not. Since I am having trouble with the battery life it would be awesome with another ROM which saves more power than the stock one does. And with a kernel that would make me overclock it as much as I want would just be awesome.
But in my frustration I have now closed everything and I really hope you can point me somewhere with a guide for this exact thing, or write a quick one here.
But what firstly really pisses me off is the clockwork mod not working, how can I reinstall that without using revolutionary?
As I am a huge noob to this phone thing (first smartphone) I really need step by step instructions, but don't think I am incompetent. I work with both hardware and software each day, so I do indeed know a thing or two.
In big hopes of help,
Jesper
Hi Jesper,
I just have 2 quick questions.
Are you S-ON or S-OFF?
If you're S-ON, that's why you can't get the Overclock to work properly.
Second question, is it a GSM or CDMA EVO 3D? I'm going to guess GSM.
Also, you can boot into your ROM and get full SuperUser, correct?
If yes, download the 4EXT Recovery and install it from the ROM.
Once you download that and get it done, I'll help you out some more.
Thank you for your answer!
I have S-OFF, and my HBOOT is 1.49.1107 from revolutionary.
It is a GSM yes.
I do have full access using superuser. I have confirmed this because both Set CPU and ROM manager asks for this and can gain access.
I have also bought and installed 4EXT Recovery control 2.4.1

Alright, that's great.
You didn't have to buy it, but it's ok.
Now, is all your stuff backed up so that you can flash a custom ROM?
Before you flash a ROM, make sure it is from the GSM section, you can't use one from CDMA or it will brick your phone.
Is there anything else you wanted to do?

I do not need to back anything up. It is all on google's servers so I just have to sync it and it will be as it is now. I can't seem to find any good ROM's that prioritize battery life. My dock can't deliver much power so I need some power saving ROM for when it is in there and showing video, and then I would love to get it overclocked because many things just seems to be quite slow. A new ROM may just be enough, but still.

Well, the ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0 still won't work. When I go to HBOOT then select recovery to get to the ClockworkMod I get the ClockworkMod menu, but nothing happens when I choose an option. It just shows the background and that's it. I have to take the battery out to power off the phone, even that option won't work.
EDIT:
Oh well, I played with that 4EXT and I got it installed instead of ClockworkMod. 4EXT works just fine for me, and awesome that it uses touch too.
Now I just need a ROM for better battery life and a kernel for overclocking. I can see that you have GSM too, can you recommend a good one for what I am looking for?

Well, I'm not very concerned about the battery, but I am using the KingCobra ICS Rom.
Try it out. Try a few ROMs.
You'll find something for you!
And just turn things off when you don't need them.
Use the task manager and disable data and such when not it use.
I can however say that I have better battery life with this ROM.

I am just way too scared if it turns out it is not for GSM and I might brick it.
Also, when installing an ICS ROM, do I need to do anything else, or does the ROM just come with ICS and I will have that too?

I tried that already, but my dock still can't give power enough. Within a few hours it loses 25% battery while playing video in the dock, even when connected to the AC adapter.
What about kernels? How do I install them? Just doing the "install zip from sd card" in 4EXT?
Since this is my very first time ever trying this I am very scared I may brick it

Another Rocko ROM 3.0

I have a locked Moto Photon 4g, rooted. And decided to play with other ROMs to see if I could improve battery life, maybe reduce lag a little. I chose Rocko 3.0 (I know it's not supported) because it's one of two options I could find that would work with a locked device, therefore allowing me to retain 4g (I need it in my area. 3g is a dog here but 4g works well).
I used System Recovery to install it, and it seemed to go smoothly. The only things that don't seem to have gone as planned are:
1) I did NOT wipe the data or the cache's, when flashing, as I anticipated the flash process would do this. It didn't, and everything stayed intact and seems to be working fine.
2) As indicated in the video by QBKING77, there are some cosmetic differences between Rocko ROM and the stock ROM. But, missing seems to be the built in numbered percentage for the battery monitor, and the different boot options.
3) When booting re-booting, MOST of the time, i get the message "the process com.android.phone has ended unexpectedly. Please try again". I hit the "force close" button, and it occasionally comes up again a few minutes later, but then stops. It doesn't seem to do any harm, so I am inclined to leave it unless someone has a simple answer for fixing it. I have already cleared the cache and Dalvik cache, and this did not help. I would prefer NOT to wipe the device and start over just for an annoying thing I have to click past one or two times.
Any thoughts? Can anyone give me some more insight into the benefits of Rocko 3.0 (again, I know, unsupported. But, some of us want to keep 4g AND ROM).
Thanks!
I have noticed that if you do not clear everything your supposed to before installing a Rom it only causes problems. its like the previous rom and one your installing form a hybrid. I would suggest clearing data, system, cache, dalvik cache and reinstalling.

Go here and download the one that says FULL WIPE. Flash this in your recovery, wipe dalvik cache under Advanced, then install your rom again and report back with the results.
As far as battery, make sure that you calibrate after flashing. This means, charge your phone fully, reboot to recovery, go under Advanced again and wipe battery stats. Run your battery down till phone shuts off, plug it in while holding the power button (this will bypass charge mode, booting straight to android), charge to full battery again. Your good to go.

Thanks. So, I downloaded Full Wipe, dropped on my SD, installed it through cwm recovery (again, I'm running a stock device), and now, my phone will only boot to the Motorola Dual Core splash screen and sits indefinitely. I went into Android Recovery and tried to reinstall Full Wipe, and it said "e: signature verification failed, installation aborted". I did a fill wipe from Android Recovery and then told it to re-install the Rocko ROM and it said the same thing, "e: signature verification failed, installation aborted". I understand this is because I am on a stock device and need to do all my installs through cwm recovery, but I can't get to it. So, what do I do now?
So, now, unless I am booting into Android Recovery, I can't boot past the Motorola Splash screen. Kinda bricked for the moment.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Sounds like you need to SBF back to stock. Be sure not to accept the OTA update that will probably come once back on stock.
I would suggest giving MOF Rom a try. It is supported.

What i sent you was just a flashable zip that tells recovery to wipe cache, system, and data. Same thing as doing it manually. When you flashing it the first time, did you immediately flash rocko rom afterwards? Thats what i was trying to get you to do, it should have booted up in Rocko afterwards.
But being stock means that bootstrap is the only recovery you can use. Its a workaround based off of CWM. You can't actually get CWM on your phone without being unlocked.
Boot into android recovery (Bootstrap), wipe system, wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, then try to install Rocko. Tell me if that works. If not, youll just need to SBF back to stock and install boostrap recovery again.
I did SBF back to stock. That was a VERY long process, but it turned out well.
For the moment, I'm going to sit, as-is, stock and unrooted, until I get a better idea of what the benefits are of the MOF ROM over stock.
Thanks!

Glad its working for ya. Make sure not to take the system update if you ever plan on unlocking or running a custom from as you won't ever be able to. But the benefits of mof is generally 1080p recording over 720, some bug fixes and bloat removal, toggles, and generally just a bit speedier and lag free. 1080p and the bug fixes can be had by taking that update. But again, you won't be able to get rid of it if you do it so make sure you're cool with that.

Thanks, I'm not really certain theirs much benefit to 1080p, because I'm not going to be hooking my Photon to a larger screen, where I understand the true benefit lies. I wouldn't mind a little less lag, though, it's not critical. The biggest thing for me is some kind of built in battery and wireless management that dramatically improves battery life.
But, I don't plan on going with an unlocked solution unless they find a way to preserve 4g on an unlocked device.

Bummer, cause the real battery improvement comes with using custom kernels and getting rid of all those perpetually syncing items (motoblur).

[Q] AT&T Recovery Status? (off charging, battery %)

So I know there is a TWRP recovery (currently using it, very nice job and am very thankful for the work put into it).
My question is, is there an updated recovery that fixes powered off charging? Additionally I notice the battery percentage indicator says 66% regardless of actual battery percentage, put of curiosity (not necessity) is this fixed. And lastly can we charge while in recovery mode?
While I do not see either issue as a major problem right now my concern is if I ever accidentally let my battery die, as a fix is not as simple as pulling the battery out and charging it in another phone/dock charger.
There hasn't been an updated version of TWRP yet, so no offmode charging or fixed battery % in Recovery. I just flashed back to the stock recovery so I can charge. It's not a big deal or long process to flash TWRP back when I'm ready to install a ROM or something else.
As for charging in Recovery, I would tend to think that it won't work. Although you could try charging while on the bootloader screen. No idea if that will work or not. Probably worth testing both if you plan to keep TWRP on your device.
