I just flashed Kenneth's 2.3.4 Beta 3 and can't get USB debugging to turn on. The check box is checked under settings > Applications > Development but no dice. Wanted to post this in the dev forums but have no permissions. Any ideas?
Are you using the usb port on the BACK of your computer? The ones in the front sometimes dont get enough juice to work the way we want them to.. Have you tried toggling the usb debugging tickbox while connected?
I am using a rear USB port and I have tried turning it on then off reboot turn it back on, pull battery, wipe data, etc. Still stuck. I saw a post regarding it under the 2.3.4 thread and that individual was able to fix it with a simple reboot. Im guessing that something is wrong in my file system. Im just going to try flashing 1.83 SBF and start over since not many people are experiencing it. That usually means its something I did
Ok went all the way back to stock 1.26, updated OTA all the way up to 1.83, rooted, installed CWM, Unlocked, installed 2.3.4 and still no USB debugging. Not really sure what is going on here.
Now also having my USB connection automatically changing to Motorola Phone Portal. I change it to something else, and it reverts it back within 30 seconds or so.
I just did the OTA and am having the same issue. No debug icon. If I use DDMS it shows up and I can see everything. But ADB doesn't seem to work either.

Doesnt matter which USB ports you use to connect to your phone. He's not trying to charge it. And front or rear really doesn't matter if they are properly connected to your motherboard. Charging is affected by USB port type and USB cable.

My phone won't go into USB mode anymore. As in, once I plug it in, it starts charging and thats it. No USB or Debugging Notification pops up anymore and on my computer it says Unrecognized device.
Here's what I've tried:
Unintalling and reinstalling the drivers.
Rebooting phone & computer
Flashing from Macnut R1 to Bionix 1.9.1
Flashing different Kernals (can't do ODIN tho)
Tried different usb cables and ports
What should I do?
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!!

Try toggling it off, then back on. That fixed mine (same problem a you after the JI6 update). I also had to toggle debug mode off and back on.

See, stuff like this only works after somebody tells you to do it. I swear I've been doing that for the past 24 hours, and that didn't work until you told me to ... thanks tho!

That does not work. I have tried mounting with and without debugging. I have also tried it either with Kies and mass storage. It still shows that I am connected, even thou I do not have the USB cable connected.
Alright, here's the deal: my phone is saying it's connected to USB, but in reality, it's not. Is there a fix for this? It's not that much of a problem, because I can still connect to my computer, and all I have to do is hit the "Clear" button to make it go away, it's just a nuisance to have it up there.
Tell us about your phone. Rooted, what rom, what have you flashed/modified?

what if you toggle the USB Debugging mode, will it disappear? I know that sometimes the complete opposite happens to me where 'usb connected' doesnt appear when i plug in the phone. I have to turn off USB Debugging and turn it back on...then it works just fine.
My ROM is UnNamed 1.3.1, and my kernel is Entropy's newest (11/23).
I toggled my USB Debugging, thinking the same thing Dynasty. No bueno. To be more specific, this all started after I accidentally clicked "Download" on my phone's shutdown menu, and then clicked "Cancel" then clicked "Shutdown."
When I did that, my phone entered download mode, and I had to pull the battery out to turn it off. It's been actin' sorta screwy from that point on.
Try a reflash of unnamed without wipe. Won't lose any data/apps and might get the system working right.
I know it's a lazy way of fixing things but if it does work it's a really quick fix.

did this work? im getting the mtp thing as well
Nah. I never did. Most I can figure to be honest is the USB port is jacked, like many other SGS I177s. It never turns off, and I did pretty much everything from flashing a new kernel to a new ROM to wipe and flash to toggling many of the functions of the phone.
No bueno.

A few days ago my Rezound lost it's ability to make a data connection. When plugged in it will charge, but the pc will not recognize the presence of a usb device. It used to do this correctly.
I have set the PC Connect to all settings and ticked the "ask every time". There is no USB Icon in the notification bar, and it does not ask about a connection type.
I have set the USB Debugging tick and unset it. I have cleared storage and done a factory reset, twice. I removed everything from the sd card.
I have used 4 different cables that work with other phones, and 4 different PC's Win XP, Vista and 7. They all respond the same.
HTC Sync no longer sees the device, AVD manager does not see it either.
In USB device manager there are no broken or unknown devices listed.
I'm out of ideas.

I loaded a USB Host Controller App which reports that "S3C USB Host driver NOT found!" and "Root hub is not present. USB Host not active or not available!"
Has something been corrupted in the kernal? Is there a way to replace it via the SD Card instead of USB connection?
Welcome to XDA! Moved to Q&A since it is a question!
Are you rooted, try flashing a new kernel. Or flash a nandroid if you have one. Otherwise try a factory reset. If new software doesn't fix it then I would say its your USB port. Pins two and 3 work data pins 1 and 4 are battery + and - so if 2 or 3 are messed u it could still charge. But more likely its software.

You can still try a factory reset if your not rooted

Giving up. Verizon will replace on Warranty
I spoke with a very helpful, knowledgeable, and efficient, Customer Service person at Verizon. After explaining the problem and my attempted solutions, she agreed it was a candidate for Warranty replacement. I'll have the new Rezound in a few days.

I'm glad to hear that you're getting a new phone sent to you. While you wait, if you haven't done so already and you still have the phone you were using when you generated your thread, reboot your computer so it reloads your drivers and try again? I've inadvertently disabled my USB drivers during the eject process more than once and the USB port I was using just stopped working. After I rebooted, everything worked fine again. It's worth a shot?
:fingers-crossed:
not so easy
If only it had been that easy! I appreciate the suggestion, I've been caught by the simplest of gaffs before! (I have found that plugging in the network cable is really important if you want network access!) Unfortunately not this time.
Never figured it out...
I never did identify the issue. I'm pretty sure it was software related but I could never prove it. I finally called Verizon and got a w warranty replacement. They were real good about it too, and fast. Had my Rectified unit in 2 days. It bugs me to not know the root cause but I had to move on.... Good luck!
UPDATE 3 I've run into my ultimate issues, when plugged in to install drivers, I get the error "device unplugged" but it's plugged in, charging. I have tried different ports on my PC, different cables, I don't know what to do at this point..
---------------------------------------
UPDATE 2 I've gotten the device to finally recognize as an MTP device, but it only stays connected for a short time, it disconnects after a few seconds, I've tried swapping cables already, as well. Any advice?
---------------------------------------
UPDATE Okay, I've solved the problem with the crashing, but now my phone shows as it isn't even connected at all. I've re-installed drivers, I am completely stumped atm.
----------------------------------------
Basically, I've been having this problem ever since I've flashed to 4.2.1/4.2.2 where my phone will crash when it's plugged into a computer for file management.
When plugged in via USB I get the typical prompt that says "USB Connected" & "Turn on USB storage"
With common sense, I choose to turn on USB Storage and I basically get the loading ring, and after some time my phone just freezes up, and I have to reset it using the volume rocker down + power.
I've flashed a different rom, wiped cache/dalvik, factory restore, wipe system, fix permissions, & just constantly trying to get it to connect.
Is there anyway I can make the phone automatically mount when plugged in? Like on 4.1.2, all you had to do was plug it in and you can easily drag and drop files? I'm not very fond of this turning on USB storage option.
bump? Really need to get this problem solved..
This send to be an issue with 4.2.1 I have the same issue. Freezing completely when transferring files.
Easy solution for me is the airdroid app from the market. Easily transfers over wifi to and from the phone.

trying to move some tunes onto my phone, it isn't giving me the "Choose Connection Type" dialog when I plug in a USB cable, and the computer isn't recognizing it as a drive -- it charges, and that's it. I'm sure I'm just missing a setting somewhere, but I sure can't find it anywhere. What am I missing?
Phone is stock, unrooted. Thanks in advance.

If you have more than one USB port, try it on a different one. The USB ports on one side of my laptop only charge for some reason, but the other side works fine. Also make sure that you have the most recent drivers installed.

If you're on cn10.1-based ROM, you need to go into settings, storage, click menu and choose computer USB connection and select MTP.

I'm not rooted, just using the regular, out of the box ROM, software version 3.16.651.3 71ORD.
Had this issue, wouldnt come up on computer and phone didnt show any USB options MTP or Storage device, rebooted computer and phone and that didnt help it. I ended up switching ROMs and that worked for me I was using stocked with goodies and switched to ViperROM 4G 3.16 and now it works....
Its common for the USB Ports on these phones to go bad.

Update: turns out it was evidently a hardware issue. New phone on the way. Kind of a pain in the tail, but at least I know I wasn't just missing something silly.
