I hate to start a new battery thread but I've searched, read all the ones out there, and nothing seems to have helped. I just got this phone late last week and I first upgraded it to the latest OTA, then odin cww and finally installed com rom 1.3. Let me just say I've never seen a battery drop this quick. I haven't even activated the phone on my account because I'm so scared of how quickly I see it dropping without touching a thing on the phone. I also noticed the following:
baseband version
S:i500.04 V.ED03
Kernel Version
2.6.32.9
Build Number SCH-I500.ED01
The baseband and build ED0? don't seem to match up. Would this cause the problem? How do I fix that?
Just so that you get an idea, I've had the phone disconnected for 5hr 30min and I'm down to 55% battery with a fresh clean install of com rom 1.3. I did the battery calibration and that's about the only thing I've even installed on the phone. When I hit batt use here's what I get.
Display: 52%
WiFi 26%
cell standby 15%
Phone Idle 7%
I've had android for about a year and have an incredible that I love so I know that something just isn't right with this fascinate. Any help is greatly appreciated.

my understanding is that the build and baseband don;t have to be equal, baseband is modem/radio and build is just the rom i believe.
From what I hear, the only thing you have to keep track of is using an eclair modem with a froyo rom as there will be issues...
You can try going to the ED01 modem (works better for me vs ed03)
I also had battery "problems".. barely get through 12 hours without needed charge with little use.
I just installed Green power app from market.. it seems to work similarly to juice defender, just is easier to configure for the noob like me, and is MUCH more limited. works on the basis of only turning on transmission intermittently.
Now I can go 18+ hours and remain above 50%.. 80% if I don't touch my phone.
Turn off wifi when you're not connected, my phone lasts 36 hours using juice defender to turn off radios when screen is off

The radio firmware makes or breaks the battery life on this phone. I've tried every combo of roms and radio firmwares. Go back to the DL09 or EA28 (my preference) radio firmware and recalibrate your battery bro. The eclair-era radio firmwares have proven to be much better than the newer ones.

Com Rom is built off of ED01 so it will say that.
ED03 is the latest build basically the same as ED01 just 3 fixed some bug that had a few phones stuck on EA28 if I remember correctly.
I haven't noticed much battery difference between the different modem/radios, personally it seems like the kernels make a bigger difference to me.
Also if you just clear the battery stars to calibrate the battery the battery gauge will be messed up for a couple cycles, best if you run it all the way down too. One of tie batteries I was calibrating in my phone said 0% for almost an hour before it actually turned off.
These phones aren't great on battery life anyways. One of the good things about using a kernel like OTB included in com rom is it allows you to use aftermarket batteries and still charge then in the phone. I get the Samsung batteries (I think they are technically for the epic), out of China for $2 each. Have 5 of them right now the wife and I rotate through. We also have two external chargers, we both just carry a spare battery to use if our phones die during the day.

I guess I was just wondering why my display shows as if it's using so much battery and if that was caused by some other conflict. I've had phones with bad battery life but this is just crazy. From the time I wrote the first post (a little less than 2 hrs ago) I've gone from 56% to 36% with nothing installed or running. That's just beyond bad battery life. Something is hosed. I'll try the radios and cross my fingers.
Have you tried under the task manager and choose the ram manager do the level 2 clear, should close everything that is running, that helps me quite a bit. Also auto rotate can be turned off when you aren't using it that will help battery life too.

As was stated earlier, turn off wifi when you are not using it, that will help a lot. Also under wifi settings, advanced, and change the wifi sleep policy to when screen is turned off. And when you look at those percentages under battery use are not a percentage of the total battery, just a percentage of whatever battery use there is. So if you are losing 8% of your battery per hour, that 52% next to display just means display is draining 52% of that 8% per hour drain. Display is almost always going to be the top drain because of the super amoled screen.
^^^ Yeah, display is most of it. Turn brightness down (as opposed to automatic or full brightness) and see how that helps. If that doesn't help, turn off mobile data until needed, if that doesn't help (should do this anyway) recalibrate your battery and cycle it like 2 times. Give it a couple days, it will go back to normal.
Radios are the biggest battery drain, not the screen, I've used airplane mode and watched movies with four hours of screen on time and used 20% battery, all you need to do is keep wifi off when not in use, it pings something like every 20s trying to find when you're in range of networks, 3g is your second biggest killer...also do not use auto task killers, for reasons I'm too lazy to get into...lowest screen brightness setting helps some but I've found it a pain going into bright sun and having to change it, the auto dimmer works rather well

Click on the items in battery stats and tell us how long your display has actually been on. The display on this phone can fairly easily burn through 1%/minute of being on (in fact, doing the math, my phone's display is at just under 1%/minute right now).
And, personally, I hate JuiceDefender and those apps. They're not fixing the source of the problem, just doing a half assed job of duct taping over what might be tangentally related (while doing horrible things to syncing). Try to find what is _actually_ trying to keep the network awake if that is actually what is going on (the Facebook widget is known to utterly destroy battery life). Make sure apps are using Push instead of Pull notifications where ever possible (Pull uses an astronomically large amount of battery life in comparison to Push).
I get around 15 hours on any other radio than dl09, on which I get around 24-36 hours depending on how much I'm using to phone. Also make sure you turn off wifi when you aren't using it.

Ok, thanks to everyone. I wanted to give you all a quick update in the hopes that this will help someone in the future. I replaced the radio file with EA28 and wow what a difference it made. I now don't see the percentages drop right before my eye and I have a shot of making it through the day. I'm also pretty surprised by the amount of battery the screen uses up. My AMOLED droid incredible usually shows the display as using the least percentage of battery. I guess the super really isn't that super.
One question I do have is if I go back down to DL09 to get the better battery life, what's the trade off?
I haven't noticed any differences between the DL09 radio and any Froyo radio.

Hi everyone, this is my first ever post on the forums so don't be too harsh on me lol anyways, my question is what is the best ROM + radio + kernel combination to get the longest battery life out of my stock thunderbolt battery? Currently I am running DasBAMF 2.0-5 the MR2.5 radio and the dream kernel. I haven't really noticed a huge improvement in my battery life since I flashed this rom a few days ago. I have seen people who claim to be getting 10-15 hrs on one charge. I don't think I need that much because I charge overnight every night, but it would be nice to know how people do that. also, what are your thoughts on juice defender? thanks!
I am currently using CM7 R1.2 w/ the MR2 radio and I get very good battery life. 10 hrs plus with minimal use on the regular battery.
I've been running Gingeritis 1.0 with JuiceDefender Ultimate and I've been getting anywhere from 16-20 hours on the standard battery with regular use (facebook, email, words with friends, browsing, etc.). What I find most helpful with this rom is the brightness slider in the dropdown quick settings. Unless you're outside on a bright day or it's absolutely necessary, keep the brightness as low as you can comfortably use. I've found this to be huggee in the ongoing battle to get better battery life.
And if you can tolerate life without 4G, use an LTE toggle app to keep your phone on 3G. This also helps a lot.
i like the Inj3ctTh3ory rom so far.
It looks to me that all MR2 radios use more battery. The best battery performance for me was on BAMF 1.7 and MR1 radio. I would use 2 to 3% battery on standby overnight, with the phone on 3G. I am on BAMF 1.8.6 now with the OTA radio and the overnight battery usage is up to 10%. I will keep testing, but I think stripped MR1 ROMs have the best battery performance.

BAMF 3.0 RC4, imo 3.4.0, OTA MR2 Radio... constant 40-45 hours on the extended battery.
How I maximized my battery
In terms of my battery I just wanted decent battery life without using a tone of extra apps to do it. I'm using the CM7 RC 1.2 with the MR2 Radio getting about 20+ hours of battery with standard use. I am not using Juice defender or any battery saver apps. I am just using Tasker to turn on and off my Wi-Fi when I'm not at home, because I hate doing manually
One thing I did do to maximize my battery life is after I flashed my new ROM I did the following after searching multiple forums for battery optimization methods
1. Charged my Battery to 100%
2. Did a Bump Charge Cycle 4 times, and then turned on phone
3. This step is probably key. Downloaded the Battery Calibration App. You can find the app in the Android Market.
4. Plugged in the charger until the Battery Calibration App read 100% and 4200+ mV. I found that even after bump charging my BW battery widget would say 100% and the led would be green. However when I go into the Battery Calibration App it would say 99% and the mV would be about 4160. I just plugged it in and waited about 30 - 45 minutes and it would finally be fully charged at 100% ~4200 mV.
5. Press the Battery Calibration button in the App to clear the batterstats.bin and unplug the phone. Do not shutdown or reboot.
6. Let battery drain completely without plugging it in (USB and AC)
7. After it completely dies Charged battery straight until 100% with no interruptions.
I'm getting good battery life without having to use juice defender or anything, and that's also with streaming bluetooth music everyday driving to and from work for a total of 1 hour. I also keep the radio at 3G the entire day unless I really need high speed data. And unless I'm in the car, Bluetooth is turned off. I'm pretty sure these steps should work on any rooted phone regardless of ROM.
I tried many different rom and kernel across the forum... I dun see any differences in term of battery life, just go with the one you love.........weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
My bolt gets better life running Ziggy's kernels for some reason. Not sure why, but it does. I've tried every sense ROM out there. +1 on the post above. Go with what works best for you and the way you use your phone.

I've found cm7 (cm7 kernel) to have the best battery life for me, getting up to 28 hours with light use and no 4g. I find the auto-brightness on cm7 to work much better than on any other ROM I've tried, and for some reason all other ROMs drained the battery around 50x faster while idling. I can leave my phone unplugged overnight and expect to lose maybe 2-3%.
There certainly is no universal solution though. That is the only certainty
Whatever rom/s you test with...make sure you try various kernel versions (lean kernels mostly) to find what works the best.
I've tried them all,
GINGERTH3ORY V5.0 DreamKernel is my favorite one. it's super fast and very responsive.
Battery life is best on this one .
I use speedtweak batt saver ondemandx.
I'm on Bamf 1.8.6 remix right now with the OTA MR2 radio and getting about 14 hours on 3g all day and 8.5 hours if on 4g all day. Still looking for something better.
I have had a lot of luck with Inj3ctTh3ory. I have only had it now for two days but I'm already impressed with how long the battery has lasted. I have not experimented with any Kernel/CPU combo's yet but it's performing so well now I might not mess with it.
ROM and kernel linked in my sig. I'm using the 1.4GHz extreme UV with interactivex speedtweak, I love it. Bulletproof stability and with mild/moderate use I can make it through a 9hr work day with 50% left on the stock battery. 4G left on, everything syncs every hour. I don't get 4G coverage at work, I don't know if that helps or hurts, but I do leave it on.
So here's the thing. I'm current running stock froyo, KB5. It's rooted. Using Overstock Kernal (over clocked to 1200 when running, 400 when off, and 1000 when charging). Has build prob edits. Using TWZ 4.5.
I want to use my phone for data. A lot (i get bore at work and i don't have the interntz).
Here's the thing. Without data running i get excellent battery life. With wifi enabled i get awesome battery life. However, with 3g enabled, my phone is useless. I basically get 4 hours of continuous use and then im dead.
Any ideas what could be causing battery drain.
Sounds perfectly normal. It takes a lot of battery taking in data...imagine how the Galaxy S 4g battery life is? I can hardly get through a school day with my data on. So I turn it off everytime. Also try recalibrating your battery.
Might be your build.prop settings or your modem, or maybe you dont get good signal at work?

Thats the way it is with cellular data. Get a bigger battery pack or plug it in. Trying to communicate with a base station, that who knows how many miles away, is not the same as the wifi router next room.
Try different rom and modem an see which one gives you best results an try using Edge an wifi

Give the Bali kernel a try and check your build.prop edits. If they're the data signal ones from Master&Slave's thread, I remember an issue where they could drain battery.

Could you tell me which lines cause the draining problem? I just added those tweaks to my build.prop.
i was having really bad battery drain on CM7...i tot of flashing kernels to improve batt life and what not
until i recalibrate my batt....it goes 7hours and still left with 25% of batt... before it was 4 hours max from my batt life...
Hi. I know there are tonnes of battery related threads out there but I would appreciate if I got some personalized help.
I am running Trigger 3.2 Final with Bali v1.8.4 and the JK6 modem.
I have gone through all the modems available for Froyo and JK6 gives the best battery life for cell and data. No overclocking or anything.
The problem is I get extremely bad battery life on data on all modems. JK6 seems to be the best of the bad. With data off, I can get 20+hrs with light phone usage, but the moment data is turned on, the bat percentage just drops like a rock. If I enable data and browse the net with Opera Mini (no flash), a 100% charged battery can be reduced to to around 30% in around 1 hour. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
If it is the battery needed replacing, why do I get excellent cell life with no data activated. Bali is supposed to be battery efficient, but I am bleeding power. I bought those cheap knock off batteries from ebay and get the same results.
Brightness is on lowest, syncs are all off and email checks every hour I think. Nothing else I can think off can be chewing the battery.
I have calibrated the battery many times and makes no difference. I should also mention that I had worse battery life on the bionix roms.
On battery use,
Display takes up around 83%,
Cell Standby 11%,
Idle 5%
What can I do? Is there an app that will tell me if I should replace my battery or anything. I am all out of options right now
Bali Is The Problem
I just read about this same problem from other users, the Bali kernel eats up a charge cycle extremely fast and has even caused major over heating problems!
My suggestion is to go to a different kernel or change the ROM completely to something less power hungry
it could possibly be the batttery itself, mine did this a while back and replacing it helped, maybe even upgrade to the extended battery if a little more bulk doesn't bother you it's a great option try a different kernel, i use Bali and am not overclocked with the JK6 modem and text all the time at school I then got an iPod touch and stopped using my phone for music and it saves me an average of 30% battery 0_o idk why but oh well

I've had the Galaxy player for a few months now, and I'm generally very happy with it. Although I get pretty decent battery life out of it, I'd say normally about five to ten days of idle time with roughly six hours of screen on time and about as much wi-fi on time, with maybe an additional three hours as a music player, one issue relating to battery drain appears to be constant. I'm currently back on stock, but this also happened on Eryigit -- I get very slow drain from about 100-80%, then it seems like the battery goes into freefall, going down from 80% down to 25% in a matter of an hour to an hour and a half of regular use, then slows down again until the battery dies. I tried calibrating the battery several times with no difference. I'm guessing I'm getting pretty good use of the battery overall, but this erratic drainage pattern makes me feel like I'm too often close to running out as the device spends around half the time I'm using it at 25% or less. I've read somewhere that the battery level measurement on the Galaxy Player 5.0 is highly inaccurate, and in fact is only a guess based on the voltage output of the battery. I still have to wonder though, is this a normal pattern for this device?

Hey. I've noticed a similar pattern via battery monitor widget, tho nowhere even close to ws prononced as yrs. I generally monitor the mA rate and it goes from -2ma steadily until 80%, the rate then speeds up. W moderate usage, i get roughly 2 days out of the sgp before charging, when there's roughly 30% or less left.
I also remembr some folks mentioning that the battery wont report greater than 80%; i imagine that 80% acts a sort of border where he readings r concerned.
Try out that program i mentioned to monitor usage. Personally, im on entropys kernel and chips rom (occasionally switching to paranoid android), have undervolted it slightly, and added a few init.d scriptsl aiming for optimal battry life. Also, try out watdhdog lite to monitor any apps that might be wakelocking improperly and Gemini app manager to disable ann0ying apps from starting on boot.

Well, given that you can have it on idle for 6 days, it might not be thay persay
Actually, onnsecond thought Powertutor is prolly better suited for your issue. It can monitor power use per application
High display brightness; wifi that doesnt sleep even w screen off (it never sleeps by default); apps that enable things like gps, that makes requests and sends info w.o yr consent thru wifi- these, among 0ther things, drain battry life and are other things to consider

And cant say. I usually do 2-3 days before i recharge; i rarely go under 20% and dont game
Also, just caught this- gps is a huge power suck. Like huge. That may be yr problem.

It was same for me on stock rom and every other rom..70% of time from 100 to 10 it is staying on 75% and 25%..and when its on 25% it can last all day with moderate usage dont moving from 25.Its because device only measure voltage which is innacuare ,voltage dont drop linear like mah.

well i had that prob with my old SGP but since i messed it up andgot it replaced it doesnt stop at 80% for like an hour it just charges straight through tht was before i had enthropys512 kernel flashed....now the battery is faster to charge
Well, I suppose another plug for Battery Monitor Widget-
It provides a handy estimate for discharges/recharges that's proved pretty accurate. After entering the actual battery capacity and a few cycles, the app estimates charge and discharge time based upon that as well as the readings it receives. The discharge estimate isn't as accurate as I'd like, but that's probably due to my sporadic usage. The charge time, however, should be accurate since charge times are charge times are charge times.
Jeez- I should like contact the dev for a commission on the app at my rate.
Re-flashing the kernel might help, if A) killing GPS (except when, obviously, you're actually using it) and B) getting rid of those wakelocks (try Watchdog Lite-free) don't work. Eryigit's ROM, from what I remember, already has the Entropy kernel baked in
If you do some search through the past threads, you will find some discussions on this very topic.
Even though the battery performance of the device seems to be quite on par with other Android devices I have used, the amount of battery charge that is being reported is, a general guess at best. As it is, it only shows the charges and discharges only at 5% increments and on top of that, as OP stated, it seems to jump around a lot.... 100%-80% normal drain... jump down to 30% and hold... etc... heck! My device will show full charge and the moment I take off the charger, it drops to 80%... I have 4 5.0 devices and they all do that... I have stock GB, ICS and Custom GB roms and all are showing the same thing. I believe it has to do with the way the charge state is being reported... It must be a hardware glitch and I guess that is why no matter what rom you are on you will see this erratic battery % report.
I have stopped worrying about it since it does not seem to actually affect how the battery is performing.
Oh yes, I saw that post when I was skimming search results, but got fixated on the not charging above 80% part and didn't realize it was the same issue. I guess this is normal then. Thanks!
Regarding GPS: It actually doesn't seem to affect my battery life unless I'm using Google Maps, in which case the GPS flashes in the status bar and yes, the battery drains much faster. Confirmed regarding Eryigit and its custom kernel not having the same GPS wakelock issues. I went back to stock because I wanted something really light, what I ended up doing is using Titanium Backup to uninstall anything that showed up in the apps drawer or task manager that I didn't need. That made everything really nice and fast. Of course you could do the same thing with Eryigit. That might be my next move. Or maybe just try the custom kernel with the Stock ROM.

Yeah. I'm currently using Paranoid Android and it only charges to 80%. When I unplug and plug in the device it starts charging again.
I love the Galaxy Player 5.0, but it really bugs me the way Samsung so often completely abandons its customers past the point of purchase. Charging problems, bogus battery level readout, GPS off battery drain, screwy unusable GPS compass... and forget about Android updates. The US version never even got 2.3.6. I really wish there was a viable non-Samsung alternative to the 5.0, but there doesn't appear to be anything else out there that's like it.
