Hi,
I just bought my GT-9100 Factory unlocked phone from Amazon/sold by Amazon. AT&T has no problems just activating this phone as a 3G device. Thus far they are not able to activate the GT-9100 on the 4G H+ data plan. I spoke to CS and level 2-3 tech support. They opened a ticket and said I would be notified within 9 days. Can you believe neither person heard of this phone (mostly suprised that the tech hasn't).
1. What was your experience activating this phone on a 4g H+ Data Plan?
2. Are you sure that your phone is currently activated on a 4g H+ Data plan?
3. Any advice to speed this up and get this phone activated correctly?
I do notice that the H+ does come up sometimes, in which I know is supposed to be 4G. I do know that I am currently on a 3g plan. I live in a bad signal area and currently not able to test the H+.

Go to an ATT store, look at the HTC inspire, or other 4g phone. Get the phone's IMEI and call ATT, give the IMEI to the rep. Or just google "atrix 4g imei" or something.
Been talked about here

Pages 9 though 11 mostly.
Also read the first post.
Thanks That worked.
I obtained the IMEI from an Infuse 4G and had AT&T customer service activate my new GT-I9100 phone as a Infuse 4G. This worked like a charm and I verified online that I indeed have a 4G plan. The phone seems to work fine on H+ on the slow 3GB speeds that we have all seen on AT&T (until they get everything up and running).
Is this borrowing of the IMEI in the Samsung Galaxy S2 FAQ?

What plan are you in ?? Data Pro 2Gb ??? Does it work with 15$ unlimited non-smart phone plan. I think it is not possible to get 4G speeds with 15$ Non-smart phone plan ??? Correct ??
@varunkumars
My data plan shows up on the AT&T Wireless website as: DataPro 2GB for 4G Smartphones
I definately don't think that you would have 4G with a non-smart phone plan because they aren't 4G capable plans (as far as I am aware of). There is a 3G 2GB Data plan for $25, I believe that is not even 4G. This is what they had on my account, before I gave them the Infuse 4G IMEI, and told them I have a Infuse 4G. Before hand I went online and changed my profile to a Infuse 4G. The DataPro 2GB for 4G Smartphones, I believe is a standard for AT&T 4G Android phones and it costs $25.

If your speeds aren't any different with the 4g plan. I would just change my plan to the 3g featurephone plan and save money. That plan is only $15 for data.

i ordered this phone yesterday with next day air, just waiting on UPS to show up. I am wondering if it's 4G. No spec page that i seen says 4G anywhere, however the phone seems to have the right bands?
It is however, At&t is not known for having the fastest download speeds so take it as it is...
Yes, it supports HSPA+ on AT&T which, in theory, can provide up to 21MBs down. Typical ranges for those of us using the SGS2 in the U.S. are from 3-7MBs down. It works the same on dumb-phone and smartphone data plans. Do a search, there's a lot of discussion on how to use the SGS2 on a dumb-phone unlimited data plan for $20 a month.
4G as used by the american carriers is just market bull****. What T-Mobile and AT&T markets as 4G is just what the rest of the world calls 3G.
The only current technology that is fast enough that I could agree to call 4G is LTE, which only Verizon has rolled out in the US afaik and I think AT&T is starting the LTE rollout this summer.
There is a _vast_ difference between HSPA+ and LTE.
To answer your question... SGS2 has HSPA+ with a max download speed of 21Mbps which is what AT&T has been marketing as 4G.
awesome, Thanks for info.
In France (maybe in all of Europe) we call that 3G+, which is still marketing but makes much more sense in my opinion. So yeah if you ask me SGS2 is not "4G" since it doesn't support LTE.
UMB and WiMAX is also part of 4G technologies, and then UMTS revision 8 which is LTE.
3.5g sometimes
I didn't find the $20/mo unlimited us plans tho
still not clear to me
Sorry but I am still not 100 percent clear on this one. I live in a developing country an use wimax for internet.
Is my samsung galaxy sii wimax capable? Is it a hardware or a software limitation if the answer on the first question is no.
Thanks
Just got my shiny SGS2 and wonder - what is the best data plan price could be in Ontario (Toronto particularly).
Got my phone from Virgin Mobile unlock and connected to Fido.
A friend of mine told me that Wind has the best price - $10 a month for unlimited data (only throttling the channel after first 5Gb). Went to Wind booth and asked to put Wind demo SIM card into my Samsung. No luck, the phone can see the Wind Home Network but couldn't connect to it.
Fido has regular data plan $60 a month for 5Gb that is kinda expensive.
Found in Internet that Fido has retention plan $30 for 6Gb. Called the support but they told me - this is only if I buy new smartphone from them sign for 3 years contract, otherwise - no $30 for 6Gb even when I threatened that I would cancel and go to different provider.
Any thoughts about cheap data plans in Canada, Ontario, Toronto that DO work with Samsung Galaxy S2?
I would've stuck with Virgin as they currently have a limited time offer of 6GB data for $30 and they're plan offerings aren't bad at all if you don't have the luxury of a retention offer from your current provider.
I have accounts on three different carriers for me and my siblings and here's how they compare:
Brother's on Fido:
100/Unl.E/WE starting 7pm
Unl. txt msg
Call Display w/Name Display
Canadian LD Option 25 Minutes
6GB Data
=$75 after taxes
Sister's on Virgin:
200/Unl.E/WE starting 6pm
Unl. txt&pic msg
Fav 10 Canada-wide
Call Display w/Name Display
1GB Data
=$70 after taxes
Mine on Bell:
150/Unl.E/WE starting 6pm
Unl. txt&pic msg
Fab 10 Canada-wide
Call Display & Voice Mail
6GB Data
=$87 after taxes
Wow, holy expensive plans, batman.
30-45$ (Plus tax) here for:
300 minutes
unlimited fido to fido
Evenings and weekends at 6
2500 SMS/100 MMS
Voicemail + Call display
Evolutive data plan (100 megs, 10$, 500 megs, 20$, 1GB, 25$)
(Telus corporate plan + Retention = Win)
Do people really need 6GB? Retention works only if you've been with a carrier for a long time... Going on 6 years with fido, I'm sure if I call them they'll give me something free. haha
Wait until the iphone 5 is released... When it is, they'll have 6GB data plans for 30$... Virgin though seems to have a pretty good network. Fido/Rogers, not so sure anymore...

Been with Fido for 7 years now without interruption.
Call them today and they haven't given me the retention plan.
Not unless I bought a phone from them (I just got my SGS2 ha-ha, what Fido can offer me instead?), sign a contract for 3 years and other crappy terms...
Man, I am disapoint with Fido.
^ Strange, I got the 6GB/$30 retention plan by committing to 2 years of Data (eg an ECF is < 2yrs) without any hardware (I am using an unlocked SGS II from Europe now).
Unlocked SGS2 will only work on Rogers, Bell and Telus (and their sub-brands, Fido, Virgin, etc.) because SGS2 supports 1900/2100 MHz HSPA.
Wind and Mobilicity use 1700 MHz (AWS) HSPA frequency for their network, which the global version of the SGS2 does not support. You will have to wait for the T-Mobile USA version.
On the other hand, the unlocked global version of HTC Sensation will work on Wind and Mobilicity, but not on Bell or Telus, and only at EDGE speeds on Rogers network.
If you use the SGS2 on Wind network, it will probably roam on the Rogers/Bell/Telus network (whichever they have roaming partnership with) (Wind Away zone). Not sure though.

Is this "T-Mobile version" has different chip and some kind of different hardware or it will be just another ROM, software update etc.?
I mean can we theoretically reprogram Bell SGS2 to work with Wind or this is hardware issue?
It's a hardware thing. The T-Mobile/AWS version will use a different cellular baseband radio chip and antenna. It's kind of like the iPhone - you get 3G on Rogers/Fido/Bell/Telus/AT&T, but only EDGE on Wind/Mobilicity/T-Mobile - because the iPhone cellular baseband radio does not support AWS frequencies.

I manage a multi-carrier wireless store (Rogers, Fido, Bell, Virgin, etc) and suggest you call Fido back and talk to the cancellations department (also called customer retention). Tell them you are going to switch to Virgin because they will give you a better plan without contract. Speaking from experience, they can give you a plan with promotional discounts even without having to sign a contract.
If that doesn't work, PM me and I'll actually switch you to something better. Like Virgin for $75 (Unlimited Talk and Text, 6GB Data, Caller ID, Voicemail), no contract.

I wen't into the T-Mobile store today to add the $10 2GB Unlimited plan to my Service and was excited to use it when I got home. Long story short I discovered because I have the AT&T model I cant use T-Mobiles 3g or their Infamous 4G.
Is there anything I can do other than switching my phone (I was thinking an HTC Sensation). I saw saw somewhere that the Quadcom chip supports T-Mobiles frequencies but you would have to mod the radio which I obviously cant do. Is there anything that would let me enjoy 4G service on our beloved Atrix?

No, unfortunately you'll need a different phone that supports T-Mobile's 4G network.
For some background, I'm an intermediate Android user (I have a tablet which I tinker with all the time) but a complete noob when it comes to cell phones. I bought the international GS3 with the intention of using it on T-Mobile's Walmart plan, but the radio doesn't seem to be compatible with anything other than edge.
I read the other thread about this and I realize that the only option on T-Mobile is to wait until they refarm their network, but I'm wondering what options there are on other carriers.
First, what networks (other than T-Mobile) are the phone compatible with, on 3G and hopefully 4G?
Second, what is the cheapest unlimited data plan on any of those networks?
Third, when will T-Mobile's refarming hit the northeastern US?
Thank you.
You can use it on AT&T and also Straight Talk with AT&T compatible SIM both will allow you to use HSPA.
Thank you.
What is the cheapest plan with reasonable data (if not unlimited, at least 2 or 3 GB). talk and text on AT&T?
450min voice is $40 + $30 for 3GB data + $20 for unlimited text with unlimited mobile-mobile calling. total is $90 whereas Straight Talk is $45 unlimited everything with I believe 2GB data cap at high speed.
Is there any difference between the two in terms of quality of service? That's a huge price difference.
I havent used Straight Talk but as soon as my SGS3 arrives I am going to try it out. Once I am satisfied I am dumping ATT.
Hello,
Since Verizon is hiking up the grandfathered Unlimited plans $20 bucks I am leaving them.
Current idea is to go over to TMobile. I am wondering if I can take my phone over and get Calls, text and Data like normal with the phone on TMobile. I've seen some things that lead me to believe I can only get data.
Phone is currently on JasmineRom.
Thanks
First off, yes, you can.
I use my vs985 on T-Mobile via the $30/month prepaid 5gig 100min unlimited SMS plan. You will need to add in APN settings and change mobile network away from CDMA, but that's not hard to figure out.
I would get a T-Mobile sim while still on Verizon and check it out. You may be in a T-Mobile band12 LTE region, and if so its not going to work for you. I get band4 LTE on both T-Mobile and/or Cricket/AIO with my vs985, but that's about it. T-Mobile coverage is a fairly distant third behind AT&T and Verizon in my area.
Don't forget that your Verizon Unlimited data plan is valuable and that you can sell it on eBay for good money. Check under "Assumption of Liability".
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
TMO Bands, Bold = VS985 has.
2G EDGE: 1900MHz
3G HSPA: 1900MHz, 1700MHz/2100MHz (TMO is starting to refarm this to LTE)
4G LTE: 2, 4, 12
You'll have LTE in major cities, but will fall back to 3G pretty often.

You can't AOL consumer UDP accounts anymore. Only business.
Thanks for the info.
Like xtermmin pointed out you can't do the AOL anymore. And even if I could I believe I would have lost my phone number which I'd lie to keep.
Good to know the G3 will work. It is actually my wife's G3 I will switching over, I just got the Nexus 6P in the mail. She doesn't really care as long as it works lol
