Root 1.8.3 - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have unlocked my bootloader but once I flashed the sbf with rsd I lost my root privileges and need sideloading to get tenfar's recovery and roms on it. I've tried Gingerbreak but it destroyed my phone so gladroot works but not with an unlocked bootloader..... ANY HELP?

i flashed my phone to 1.26, didnt root or anything, unlocked bootloader, flashed tenfar's recovery through fastboot....loaded kenn's gb leak, and flashed....
you dont need root or sideloading enabled. you just need to understand what the hell you are doing.

Could someone please make a working pudding remover

The nopudding4u download that someone posted doesn't work and gives Fail to boot 2 errors to everyone who tries it out.
Could one of you please make a pudding remover that works? I would like to relock my bootloader, so that way my 4G will work. I don't want to reflash an entire sbf as I want to keep my data.
I just relocked my bootloader with the pudding remover... it says that it's failed... but it works.. make sure you flashed the stock recovery before you relock... but I kinda did it backwards... but it works...
I would get Fail to boot 2.
I had to reflash pudding to get my phone to boot.
I really want to remove pudding and the steps provided don't do much.

I'm wondering as to what exactly is the problem with nopudding4u that makes it fail to work properly.
I believe that Failed to boot 2 error means that your battery is below 50% charge. The RSD softeware on the phone won't let to flash if you're under 50% battery.
I got that error and then put my Photon on the AC charger. Tryed again 20 minutes later and the boot worked.
what does Failed to boot 4 mean?
Work it does not, rsd you must do.

Make sure you guys have the right nopudding.sbf I had the failed to boot 2 a while ago when I flashed an electrify.sbf by mistake and It nearly terminally bricked my phone. I have locked and unlocked multiple times using the correct nopudding I believe there is also a stock sbf that will relock, but I'm not sure where to find it, I would assume try googling it.

Working right now and I have to do some research to remember how I did it (been a while) , but most definitely. I'll get back to you on it tonight. where I'm at it's almost 1 so it'll be about 9 When I can pm u
I unlocked a while back to check out ICS. I then flashed back to stock using the 198_7 sbf and did a factory wipe. My phone no longer said unlocked during boot and everything was good. However, a couple days back I decided that I wanted to unlock again to try some new cool things. During the unlock process, I flashed the pudding sbf and when it reboot it said unlocked. I didnt have to go through the cmd steps and enter my unique ID. So that has me wondering if I was ever really relocked. I definitely had the stock recovery. So, even if my phone does not say unlocked during boot, should I flash the nopudding4u sbf? I ask because I will be traveling to a wimax area soon and want to make sure that I can use it.
Thanks guys.

u only have to put in the unique I'd once. Its like unlocking the door that allows u to open and close it. I believe with 198_7 u don't need to use no pudding, but I have been on cm9 a long time and my memories a little foggy. U can however flash it just to be safe.

Flashed pudding 2.3.5 for the Photon, now what?

I don't read well, apparently, and flashed the Electrify 2.3.5 file in hopes of unlocking my bootloader.
Has anyone else (I have read that a handfull of people have been stupid like me) had any luck unbricking the device?
I have access to RSD protocol and Fastboot.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: The only thing my phone says now is:
SUF: 108:1:2
Failed to boot 3
----------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT #2: Downloaded someones CWM flashable kernel and flashed to boot.img via moto-fastboot. Not I have an "Failed to boot 2", which people have recovered from. I am currently flashing (198_7)-1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_7-CM-release-keys-signed-Sprint-US.sbf and it's 55% completed, which is higher than it got before........
EDIT #3: It failed.... waiting for re-enumeration...
Have you tried this?

I fixed it by flashing the electrify 2.3.5 rom thru rsd.

Try go sms pro. Put mms settings in advanced settings. Should make mms work.
now just a clarification but is it possible to, without Motorola files, to unlock the boot loader our selves? Is there any coding work to unlock this boot loader on our own?

You have to flash something to gain the abilty to unlock the bootloader thru fastboot.

Just a quick question: Where you able to flash back to:
1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_7-CM-release-keys-signed-Sprint-US.sbf
or are you runningL 2.3.5?

I haven't personally tried it, but as far as I know you can't. You are stuck on 2.3.5 until someone releases a new bootloader unlocker.

I had a similar problem this weekend I flashed electrify 2.3.5 on my photon lost root and recovery and was able to get both back. First I flashed the sunfire 2.3.4 thru rsd then one click root and then bootstrap app to flash cwn and am able to flash roms again.

But if you wanted to re-lock your phone to get 4g could you do it or would you also get the Failed to Boot 1 error?
Point being is that I think it relocks your phone and does not allow for a downgrade.

If you would not mind can you please outline what you did?
This is what I did:
1. Installed regular pudding
2. Installed cwm recovery
3. Installed 2.3.5 for Electrify/Photon via cwm
Then did:
1. Installed stock recovery
2. Installed nopudding4g
After that I started getting the Failed to Boot 1
No matter which locked 2.3.4 I try to flash via RSD it fails on first flash pass when it tries to put the phone into BP bypass.
First to get my phone back to normal in rsd mode I flashed the sunfire sbf then to unlock my phone I used pudding unlock sbf then to get recovery I had to do the one click root then got the bootstrap app to flash cwm zip then I installed jokers stock rom

Flash before root?

Hello. I'm new to the whole flashing and rooting process. Last time I hacked a phone was waaayyyy back in 2004 or 2005 when I used to hack my Motorola v505. The question I have is do you have to root your phone before flashing it? If not, what exactly can I do after flashing my phone?

Yes, you should root before flash....if reversed, you might have to flash again.
I get what your saying kinda. But what I wonder is if I could flash my phone without having to root to get it to do certain things. Would there be a benefit for flashing instead of rooting? Such as would I be able to use custom themes or roms or anything along those lines JUST by flashing? Is there anything I can do by only flashing my Evo 3D?
flashing
is your devise cdma or is it a gsm ethere way you would have to unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery and then you can flash a rom and if you want full nand unlock and s off then you would need to down grade your hboot number as well
My Evo 3D is cdma I believe. And being that I purchased it December 26 I believe that the hboot is the 1.50. So assuming I downgrade and unlock the bootloader all I have to do is flash to use a custom rom? No root?
I believe you will have to root your phone or the flash a rom because your hboot has to be s off for you to flash recovery which would let you flash a rom
I would recommend close ones downgrade iso . 1.5 can only be unlocked using htcs hboot unlock. and to be honest I don't like them knowing what I do with my phone .follow the steps on his guide and you should be able to downgrade to 1.4

its opposite LOL.......you unlock bootloader first , then flash recovery and then flash any Rom or a flashable superuser.zip which will root your phone.
@OP
You can unlock your bootloader using htcdev.com if you don't want to downgrade.
After unlocking, I suggest to flash 4ext recovery as it can flash boot partitions even though you are s-on....then you can flash any custom ROMs of your choice .You don't need root to flash ROMs or other stuffs , you need a unlocked bootloader to flash. Root is just having superuser app and binary in your phones system ... Once your bootloader is unlocked you can flash any ROMs . All custom ROMs here comes pre rooted

Ok so from my understanding of what you said, all i have to do is unlock the bootloader with htcdev.com, then use something called 4ext, then im good to go and can flash roms? Also, once i do this will i be able to intall some kind of screen rotation animation to my evo3d? I would like a nice animation and so would that be possible to do if i follow the above steps? and thank all of you for your help.

Yes you can do everything what hboot 1.4 users can, except flashing radios/firmware.....I still suggest to downgrade the hboot as it makes your phone fully unlocked . Hboot 1.5 needs PC for flashing some stuffs. You cannot flash PG86IMGs without relocking your bootloader if you are on hbooot 1.5 .
For transition effects and anims , there is an app in the play store which works on every phone and every Rom provided your phone Rom is rooted......
NOTE: Unlocking bootloader will void some parts of your warranty...

So are you saying that if i flash then install a custom pre rooted rom from here that my phone will be rooted just from flashing a pre rooted rom? Also, I believe I'm going to go the HTC.dev route. Seems simple enough and make little more sense to me.

The HTC dev method gave me problems with the WiMAX so if you don't use or have WiMAX use the HTC dev method. But again Closeone's bootable linux live cd is just as easy as HTC dev and is getting easier. Plus , its better to have s-off since its easier to flash roms (Unless you have 4ext recovery) then you'll be in hboot 1.4 and you could update (using another method so that you don't lose s-off) back to hboot 1.5. . If you want I'll give you links to make you're life easier.

Help - Recovery not working and me no smart

I am very new to this and did something as my friend said, really stupid. I rooted my Evo LTE with the one click root method. This installed TWRP Recovery. After a few days I found a ROM I wanted to install. I installed ROM manager and along with this it installed Clockworkmod. I tried to install the rom from the zip I put on the root but clockwork opens up as my recovery instead of TWRP and does not run any commands. So after trying to get clockwordmod to work and couldn't... I decided to unroot phone and just re-root (yes very stupid). So after unrooting via SuperUser, I tried to install the RUU and it would'nt install as bootloader/recovery not work. I have no clue what to do
Are you running the ruu on your pc? It's not something you flash on your phone.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
cwm recovery dont work on the evo LTE.. u have to flash the twrp 2.2.0 recovery.. yea the ruu is like a tool.. plug ya phone in and run it.. very easy

You have to relock your bootloader to run an ruu.

Try to flash TWRP again. If your able to do this then running a ruu is not nessary. As stated before clockworkmod recovery has problems on the Evo LTE.

Thank you thank you, I was able to relock the bootloader last night. Tonight I will try and reflash TWRP. This has been a good learning experience so far. At least i didn't brick the phone As the phone is no longer rooted do i need to root it as part of my flashing TWRP? The one click root method installs TWRP as part of the whole process.

At least i didn't brick the phone As the phone is no longer rooted do i need to root it as part of my flashing TWRP? The one click root method installs TWRP as part of the whole process.

You do not need to be rooted to flash a recovery but your bootloader needs to be unlocked. If your unlocking your bootloader using htcdev method then you don't need to be rooted. If your unlocking your bootloader using lazypanda method then you need root or temp root before you can run lazypanda.

i was using this method, roter froze at installing recovery, and now i think my phone is bricked. it wont power on and i cant access bootloader

No root - HBoot 1.58 - Phone unlocked - Recovery flashed

Can someone help me root this phone?
I unlocked it via HTC method and I even flashed a recovery. But when the phone boots up, I am unable to use any super user permissions. So, I download root check and it says I am not rooted. What am I doing wrong?
I didn't have this pain on HB 1.5

I had also did that. Thing is, when I booted back up, my phone was in the state of not being rooted. Even after flashing the superuser zip.
So, what I did was flash the boot.img from the rom I wanted to flash, through fastboot.
Thank you for the help though. It's really appreciated.

Months ago I used HTCDev to unlock and flashed TWRP recovery and su-2.3.6.3.zip from this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239821
I was underwhelmed with the MIUI ROM and got curious about Sprint's ICS update, so I relocked the bootloader and ran the 2.17 RUU.exe, then updated to 2.89 OTA. After that I could use my original HTCDev Unlock_code.bin to unlock the bootloader, but su-2.3.6.3 would not give me proper root access (verified with Root Checker app). Thankfully downloading Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip from http://androidsu.com/superuser/ and flashing it through recovery worked.
I now have root with the stock Sprint ICS. Why? Because I wanted to keep the 3D and Wimax functionality (i know, i know) while still being able to run TiBackup to freeze the goddamned pre-installed apps that everyone hates. I'm sure this is stated elsewhere in the forums, but I read your post before I resolved my issue so I thought I'd come back and reply just in case you or anyone else were still grappling with it.

Thanks a lot, that really helped me to root a brand new stok rom on the Sprint evo 3d!
Just for future reference when you download a super user zip, notice the letters next to superuser efghi those letters represent the past android os's (e)clair, (f)royo, (g)ingerbread, (h)oneycomb, and (I)cecream sandwhich. Always look for that if you plan to root a stock Rom.
