My wife, kids and I just become first time Android owners. I have the E3D while the wife and kids all have the E4G. I followed to the letter the instructions given HERE> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158400 and was able to temp root my E3D first try without any issues. I have read and read til I thought I was going to go blind and have not found what I was looking for OR simply missed it all together.
My families E4G's all have Gingerbread 2.3.3. Will the temp root method posted HERE> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158400 work for them as well?
I have been all over the E4G section and I keep coming across custom roms but have not seen anything for rooting the E4G with G-bread 2.3.3. Am I missing something, simply not seeing it etc etc? Any/all help or push in the right direction getting the E4G's done too would be greatly appreciated.
Hey there.. and welcome to Android..
I believe the Temp Root only works for the E3D..
And rooting the EVOs depend on which HBOOT and software it has.
I believe there's not a root for Gingerbread 2.3.3 yet.
Take a look at these and see if they help:

Hey No Problem at all.. I was in the same boat when I first started learning how to root my EVO (oh how I miss it more and more everyday). It can be a daunting task trying to sift thru all those threads and it sucks even more when you get flamed for asking questions...
And thank you very much for your THANKS... Much Appreciated
I guess they will just have to wait it out. Again thanks for the quick and informative replies.

I have a question to you! Why did you root if you didn't know what you wanted to do afterwards? Rooting is not just so you can feel the "cool factor", and the vast majority of us know before we root why we want to do it, otherwise...................WHY do it???
Why did you bother? Your own answer should close this thread, and everything else you mentioned can be found by reading the forums!
No offense, but you shouldn't be rooting/flashing "roms" if you don't know what your doing.
It's very easy to end up with an unusable device.

Thx. I know that. I managed to get everything working i wanted ;-) and everyone has to start at one ponit, right. That's why I would not do it if I don't want to. I want to learn more about it so can you tell me a good thread or webside to start with?
Can anyone tell means about that rom pls.
I find your responses a bit harsh guys.. Are there laws / regulations on who can / should root, profile boxes that have to be ticked before one can decide to have a go at unleashing the full power of their phone?
Nobody was born with the knowledge, we all started from scratch at some stage. There are enough warnings that explain how to apply the root methods that are offered in the threads.

Ouch.......poor guy is new and gets slammed instantly for wondering what all he can do with his phone. I think we were all in the same boat not too long ago.
Yea, he may be a noob and not know the politics of posting before reading, but I bet each one of us did at one time too. What we should be doing is just politely pointing him in the right direction on how to learn more about all things root.
Such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=972423 being a good place to start.
Understand though, if you screw up your phone, there is no one to blame but yourself. Read how to recover from a soft brick and hard brick before jumping in. Read all posts VERY carefully and all the way through. That's how I learned, and many others before me. And first and foremost, before asking questions about anything, do a quick search of the treads to see if it has already been asked and answered before. If you don't find your question, feel free to ask and ignore those that troll the treads.
Good luck my man.

I am running Gingerblur which is very similar. I think it is a great ROM and one of the few so far for the Atrix. If you like some of the Blur stuff such as the gallery and social networking items, you have to understand that you will be losing them with the new ROM and going with the stock Android gallery. However, if you do a backup of your current ROM before flashing, you can always revert back if you don't like it.
Big thing, screen shots help for me. And the ROM developers do a great job at giving the details of their ROMs in their posts or websites.

I agree, we all have to learn, but the vast majority of us started by reading through threads which have all the info about how to flash sbf's, root, sideload, flash themes, what is and is not possible, etc. We then tried things by following the instructions.
I'm not, and was not, trying to be a ****. I am however very blunt! Everything the OP needs is already there if he/she looks. The forums are full of "repeat" threads because people are basically too lazy to read and research for themselves before asking what has already been asked numerous times.

This is a nub question I know, but I've been reading these forums for a while now that I got my Thunderbolt and I was just curious.. is there an easy 1 click root for Thunderbolt yet? like the universal Androot or somthing? I really want to root mine and put a stable GB rom on it, really liking the look of BAMF, but I'm very hesitant because I really dont' want to brick my phone, done it before and it was a pain in the BLEEP to recover it, course it was a Zio M6000 too LOL... Anyhow is there an easy root out there yet? and are any of the GB BAMF Roms stable enough to use the netflix APK on and not worry about brickign too much? I'm hesitant because I'm not overly wealthy or anything and I dont' want to brick my new phone I just dumped some cash on lol thanks!
New Info (Post mentioned below): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009969 (If you are going to use this, please make sure you understand what all it does: and "When in doubt, know your way out.")
Not that I'm aware of, however the root process documented in the stickies is very easy to follow, given that you have adb working on your computer. None of the GB roms are "stable" as they are all based off of a leaked sense rom, but that being said I've been running Gingeritis with very little problems.
If you really are interested in changing up your stock rom (and I would, the battery life out of the newer kernels by imoseyon is outstanding!) take a few minutes to read up and get ADB working on your machine. Once you are comfortable with that, download the stock RUU floating around here - You would have to screw up pretty badly to brick the phone, just follow the instructions. JCase and crew have done a very nice job with trying to be cautious with every step.
Also, not trying to be a prick but fair warning - posting questions in the dev forum is a no-no unless you are releasing something dev related, you'll likely get some not so nice responses for doing it. Good luck in learning!

There is no one click root, but it doesn't get much easier than captainkirks one click script. The most user action involved is putting the RUU's on the SD Card and hitting "y" for yes.

right about now....
seriously i know we all were noobs at one times but these types of questions get really annoying. seriously its NOT HARD AT ALL. i was really scared at first n when i actually took the time to read up on ADB, i was like duh its seems so damn easy. once i first rooted my Nexus One, it really was easy. the TB is just as easy. really stop taking the easy way. stop being lazy, take an hour out of each day to read up on ADB so u can root when youre ready. u WILL NEED to know about ADB. not everything here in the forums will be handed to u easily. u will need to pull files, edit them and what not. seriously these types of people need to stop being lazy and read up on some ADB. this is coming from a person who is so-so with this type of stuff. seriously, the manual way is NOT HARD AT ALL
and there are a few reports about TB bricking on GB but not so much to be overly scared about. im still playing it the safe way n sticking with BAMF Remix 1.7 for now til its more stable or til we get a lot more info on the brickings of TB on GB
I appreciate the information given here. I know that I'll always have to wade through a bit of criticism and flaming when you're learning and those who have done so I understand your frustration but be patient, not everyone has your understanding as yet of the systems and how they run. The most I have ever done with regards to rooting and roms is to use androot on my zio and install some launchers.. so manually playing with my phone's innards is a little daunting.
I will take your advice Jay and read up on ADB, while I don't like your attitude, I do understand it and thank you and others for the information you offer. I will look into all of these options and thank you all for your input
This is what I used:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005292
I came from the D1 and have a lot of experience with adb and was honestly just lazy when I rooted the TB. When I rooted my D1 there was no easy root and I did everything manually which was a huge help later on in (root) life. I highly suggest that you do it manually at least once. Then later when you're lazy like me you do an easy root.

No one should have to be flamed or critisized for asking questions. The only stupid questions are the ones not asked.
Even experienced to advanced users still ask questions.

Download both files. Rename the first MR1 RUU and put on the SD card. NOT in a folder. Power off/hold volume down and then press the power button. Follow the instructions on the screen. After its done reboot. Then, delete that file off the SD Card. Rename the second one and put where the first one was. Do the same thing again. You will be unrooted with S=on.

Don't let others get you down, I'm far from a NOOB yet still get called it because someone has to answer a question rather than ignore it even though its not a big deal. I rooted mine coming from a D1, I used the method here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616) it took about 30 mins and it was no big deal at all. I was on GB and then went back to Froyo since I have no problem waiting another month or so for something that would be more stable to come out.
Good luck with whatever way you go. ADB can be a pain in one way or another. There is an ADB for dummies that someone posted one click installs ADB and it works perfect I have been using that. The commands are easy so I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Not really. Its not difficult at all. Just read and it will make sense. Its similar to the og evo root method. Hit the button, flash recovery, reboot.
I Haz 3D
Point is, Just do it. You will learn a lot from just doing while trying not to fathom the "big words" or "strange names" for different stuff. YES, something CAN happen, but usually follow the steps and all will be fine. When I first rooted my first phone I was not really linguistic in the lingo we use now for rooting such devices, it reminded me of the ole AOL WAREZ days and those silly but fun AUto programs we used in the chat rooms. I say... Take the plunge.
EDIT: Don't be lazy (like me) and NOT read it. There is no ONE click easy method if this is your first time. Once you have rooted this phone though your ext and future roots will eb easier and make more since.

You really should READ. A lot.
There is no 'best'. There are indeed several methods to gain root access, but one isn't necessarily better than another. Think of it like a switch. Is there a 'best' way to turn on your kitchen light? There are indeed multiple methods, some more challenging than others...but if the goal is to be able to see and navigate your kitchen to get to the fridge...does it matter if you flip the switch with your thumb or index finger, right or left hand, or even your foot? Not really. That's kinda like root.
Root access is a threshold thing, when you get it it's done.
Search with Google, and Youtube...watch and read all of the tutorials, and decide which one you think looks easiest.
What you should find, is that root = big yellow exclamation mark. Try googling 'sgs2 jig'. You should read about that, too. The jig will help you get rid of the yellow triangle syndrome, and it should cost you less than $3 on ebay. If it doesn't work, you might need an old bootloader...another subject to read up on.
If you want to take on the challenge of rooting and modding your phone, you should take on the challenge and not ask strangers to do your homework for you.
Devs here at XDA are AWESOME. They explain everything...in forums, where you can read it. You can also check out sammobile.com, another great site for people with our phone.
Best of luck! Get crackin'!

No worries. Sorry if I was a bit harsh.
Look, check into SuperOneClick and a user named chainfire, in both of those you'll find what you need.
Seems like a lot of trouble for just a VPN. If you've got root afterwards you should think of flashing custom ROMs. That's where the fun stuff happens!
I first tried Ice cream Sandwich at the end of December, and it was awful. But the devs have been working hard on it. I've been running a build that's every bit as stable as stock Gingerbread for 2 weeks now. So many more features. Kicks ass, it does.
Let me know if you have trouble, get stuck or have any specific questions (send a PM). I might not have the answer, but I can point you in the right direction.

I don't know anything about the Epic 4G Touch. I would suggest you read about it yourself.
Start at the Epic 4G ´Touch forums, and Google, and watch vid tutorials at Youtube.
I was once a noob, too, then I read a bunch of stuff...it was hard. I had to work at it, and do it.
Roughly a year ago I got my Sprint EVO 3D. As soon as the first *successful* root procedure was posted I followed it to root my phone. Nearly a year later I have had ZERO issues with my phone/service until about 2 weeks ago. My data speed is nearly non existent. My wife has the same phone with same root. Using the speedtest.net app "HER" phone will get 4 megs download. Mine.....0.12.
I called Sprint and they said they can find nothing on there end to indicate a problem. That it has to be a problem with my phone and I am to take it in and have it checked out. Obviously I can't take it in rooted. I am seeking help/advice to unroot my phone. I feel confident that I can do it, but am confused as to which procedure to use as I cannot remember the name of the root. To re-clarify, I used the FIRST working root that was ever posted.
Any/all help is GREATLY appreciated. I would like to apologize if this is posted in the wrong area. I mean no harm, no foul.
This should have been asked in Q&A. You have to download the ruu and relock your bootloader.
I am so sorry for the wrong area. Should I delete the thread and repost over there? Also do you have a link or push in the right direction to get the PROPER ruu?

Or do a Google search. Good luck.
Thank you so so so much (thanks button clicked on both your replies). When I first rooted my phone I was like "yes I did it". Now I feel like such a noob.
After some searching and trying my best to remember the root I used I believe I have found it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192245
Will the information you gave to me UNroot THIS particular root method?

Why not? According to internal documents, Sprint requires their employees to treat rooted users equally as unrooted. From everything I've read, no one has had problems taking rooted phones in (especially recently). Of course, YMMV.

Lesson learned man, no sweat a mod moved it for you. Any luck?
I never said Sprint said I couldn't take it in rooted. I am just trying to be thorough is all. The way my luck runs, had I posted I took a rooted phone in for servicing and was told I was screwed because it was rooted it would have been an absolute flame fest of replies LoL
At least this way I know. I can feel confident in what I am doing instead of going at it blind.

Thanks for the info. This seemed to help. I found a local shop through a friend that doesn't care if you are rooted or not. Still am going to try to unroot as it is just nice to know these things.
I have not got around to unrooting just yet. I have been extremely busy. Rest assured I will post as soon as I do (am hoping I can on the 4th) attempt it and share my results.

SORRY it has taken so long to reply. I have been dealing with some health issues. YES thanks to a a guide I found elsewhere I was able to unroot the revolutionary method I first used. Took my phone to Sprint today and they found several issues with it and ordered me a new one. Thanks so much everyone for all the help
