I needed to reboot my Thunderbolt in a meeting today. However, I forgot to turn my sound off before rebooting.
When the thunderstorm sounded in the meeting it was very disrupting. Yikes!
Howe do I disable the startup sound? I have not rooted my device and don't intend to.
Thanks
I don't think you can if you're not rooted.
The BAMF RC4 ROM has a built in BAMF Toolkit that has this feature. You can also change your boot pictures and animations. You need root for this.
Deleting the sound would prevent it from playing on stock roms. The problem is, I believe the sound is in /system/customize/resource/ which you won't be able to delete without being rooted which you said you have no plans of doing.

Correctamundo!
^ must be rooted.
Not a solution but you could interrupt the meeting and say somethinly biblical and with conivction right before the boot sound to create a theatrical reaction in conjunction to your fellow coworkers presentation.
*lower your chin for the rest of the meeting..

Is this possible to have on our phones? I have not seen anything posted via search or the sticky (unless I missed it)
I know phones in the Galaxy series have it, just wondering if ours are able to also and how it would be done.
Thanks
Running CM7
+1 on this!
do the Galaxies have the sounds on their Stock or on their CM6/7 ROMs? I know our phones have bootup sounds if you're running the Thunderbolt port, the Desire Z port and both of the Desire HD ports (don't know about the MIUI ROMs, but since they're somewhat CM based I doubt it)... so it's not the phone, it's the ROM.
Vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
Got it!
Here are the files you need, this is for the STOCK ROM Rooted of course.
This is the call of android one with sound. I am heading to that post next and maybe even a thread for future questions on this.
1. In the audio.rar there is a default.xml file that goes in system/customize/CID add .bak to yours first though to save it from being deleted.
2. The last 2 files, bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 (yes MP3 not ogg) go in system/media/
Pretty easy huh? Well now it is. lol
All this did was take the last command out of the xml file so the system wouldn't search for T-Mobiles crap bootanimation anymore. So disregard all TMUS_ in the beginning of your future animations as well unless you go back to your backed up xml file. Also, you don't even need to delete the OEM boot anime as the system is no longer looking for it. Hope this helps, I know it was an ongoing question and I just happened to have some free time today.
Hmm, I always thought I had to change roms in order to do this. But turns out I could have done it with the stock rom. Doh!
No luck for CM7 huh?
I've been on cm7 since that post and this isn't so easy. I figured it would be easier. Lol yeah right.

The completely non-scientific way of muting the sound, is just getting used to holding your finger over the tiny speaker hole, which pretty much mutes the sound completely.
Guessing the phone has to be rooted for this to work? I don't have my SGS2 at the moment (it's en route, RMA replacement), but I'll have to check this out. That camera sound is a pain!
Edit: nm, saw the note in the post (just had to read instead of skim lol)

i missed the most important command, mount and remount

As the title says, I'd like the phone to not emit any sound when the charging process completes and the battery gets back to 100%.
I can't seem to find any option to disable the sound notification...
Thanks everyone,
TD
Same has been discussed more than once.
Not possible without rooting. If rooted, download and install Root Explorer or something and the path is,
system/media/audio/UI/Tw_Low_Battery.ogg, change it to Tw_low_Battery.ogg.bak. If you want it back sometime then just remove the .bak extension.
Regards.

Not quite true. As a workaround, I used EasyProfiles to create a night profile that, amongst other things, switched off all sound and vibrations for everything except phone calls and alarms. No more buzzing when the battery charge gets to 100%

I just thought I would write up a quick tutorial for anyone who ever wanted to play music through the earpiece for some reason (am I the only one who always forgets their earphones?). I had the urge to do it yesterday and this is how I did it
First download the app "earpiece" from the play store. You will notice, however, that it doesn't give you the option to play audio through the earpiece. This is because it doesn't think you have one. So, what you must do is take the attached file and stick it in the /system/etc/permissions directory (yes, you need root). Change the permissions of the file as needed and reboot. This file will make your player look like a galaxy S gsm phone (I have not encountered any negative results of doing this yet). You should now be able to use earpiece app for listening to audio through the earpiece!

UPDATE: I think this mod also makes more apps compatible in the market! Go locker, go search, and go notification are just a few that I have noticed! Could someone please confirm this?

You haven't discovered nothing new. I guess it changes device info in build.prop so your phone is detected as sgs. Makes more apps compatible.

Uh yeah, I know about that hack, in fact, I was one of the first to implement it, lol! What I am saying is this makes some apps that were still "incompatible" after that mod compatible (maybe, still waiting confirmation).

I've been trying to get viper working on alliance rom and have had nothing but issues. It keeps telling me after I install the drivers and reboot the phone, that the drivers still need to be installed. I used the viper4android.zip so it was installed as a system app. Just don't know what the problem may be. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am on Alliance ROM, too and it's working for me, man. I didn't set it as a system app. Just installed it like a normal app. I've had better LSOUND QUALITY not disabling LPA WHEN IT ASKS IF YOU WANT TO.
I have tried as both a system and user application with no luck.

I've fixed the build prop. Installed first as system app and kept getting that the driver needed to be installed. So i trues as a user app and still am in the driver loop.

Yeah, I've been trying to get it to work on the AllianceROM as well. Once in a blue moon it would work. I turn check "Enable" and if I hear that it didn't turn on (I already have my settings set up), then I uncheck it, close the app, and open it again and start the whole process. SOMETIMES this works, and SOMETIMES it doesn't.

yeah its a pain I've tried everything I can think of and I've been rooting phones and playing with installing system apps user software and all that since like 07 when i got my Motorola Droid the first one from Verizon. This shouldn't be this hard I'm hoping if we request it enough he'll add it to the next version. You should request it be added I will as well.

Same here man, same here. :/ This should be something simple but it's not. I want it to work with the stock music player instead of having to install another one, cause some say it works with the stock music player, and for others, it says it doesn't work and they had to install another player. This is an annoying issue lol, I'll for sure request it. It'll make the ROM even better.
Try enabling full content logging for SuperSU to see if Viper4Android is encountering any errors. I have Viper running perfectly on my S5 on a Stock Based self made ROM.
Viper was a serious pain to setup on Custom ROMs with this phone..i finally got it by being persistent and not giving up..just kept starting from scratch and finally got it..Thing was after getting it running...i personally thought my music sounded better without it..so i took it off..but I probably didn't know what I was doing and didn't have it set correctly. .
Its All personal preference. .

"thought my music sounded better without it" lol sorry but i MUST laugh at that. You are right in saying you didn't know what you were doing. Viper4Android is the best thing an audiophile could do to their phone
In terms of setting it up, its quite simple. Ensure busybox is installed (a real, well built custom ROM has this already) and you simply run the app and it does everything for you.
Honestly I never got it to work on anything other than poweramp and YouTube app

Well as I said..i doubt I had all the settings set correctly for optimum listening..nor did I care to take the time to fine tune them or read through the 100 's of posts within its thread to learn. There must be something more to it than what I heard because of all the people that swear by it like you..i am not putting it down..I was just saying I have no problems listening to my music without it and it sound great to me.
But for you say all you have to do is install the app and go is not true for all as I have experienced going through the install process. Maybe for you it installed so easy but not for me or for a lot of people I have seen make comments in this forum and even on the Viper thread itself..I quess your just the Viper genius.

After you install viper did you install drivers then after that diable LPA and then reboot ...? And yes there is a huge difference as far as how loud and clear it is . If you set it up properly and take the time to toggle settings to your preference you will never go without it again .If you listen to music at very low volumes and aren't that into sound quality then don't use it but youre missing out.
What is not working for you .. Did you go to settings then sound and set viper as your music effect as default?
It's strange...on my One and N5 it only works in the google play music app. On this phone it works on every app that outputs sound. This is amazing lol. You have no idea how happy I am to finally listen to my music in decent quality.

It's worth a shot. Especially if you use headphones alot. I personally think that stock sounds ok at best. It's not loud enough and you don't have high quality sound drivers. Make sure it's allowed in super user also. That could be your issue. Don't listen to any of the ass hole comments on here. Some people forget they were noobs once and that they didn't always know everything

Glad you got it working. On top of viper I always and I mean always use a volume increase mod. That along with viper makes it not only louder but really brings out viper. . My $14 skull candy ear buds sound Frick in amazing. I'll never buy beats. I don't know why Samsung and other brands don't incorporate better sound into their firmware. I guess they don't want to be held responsible for someones ear drums exploding lol.
Try pon-3. It is a modified version of the latest v4a + sound mod (libs) enhancement.
