So I have recently been poking through the framework-res.apk and its fairly clear that there is a data icon for hspa. I have never seen it on the taskbar even when (I'm fairly sure) I am on hspa.
Does anyone's phone use the h symbol? And if not where is the xml or whatever that controls it. I was unable to find anything in framework-res (or twframework) that calls the data icons...
Have I overlooked something? Does anyone with experience from other devices know where the control xml is for those devices (g1, nexus)?
Thanks!

3G is HSPA. I don't know what tells it to use it. I recall in early CyanogenMod 5.x there was some bug in it that made the H icon occasionally display. I believe they also ended up removing the icon from the framework.
Even HSPA+ is still 3G (they just got more out of HSPA), but the vibrant doesnt support the changes to HSPA+ protocol, so we would never see it if that is when it is supposed to show.
If you really wanted to see the H icon, you could replace the 3G icon with the H in the framework-res.
While hspa is technically 3g it is an evolution of umts, the original 3g, which is still in use many places. Hspa offers more (about 5x) bandwith than utms and it would be nice to know if I was on an hspa network rather than an umts network without having to go to about phone>status to find out.
On other phones, many custom roms enable the switch to the h icon when on hspa. Our community has yet to do this mod. I was hoping someone could point me at the right xml to get this going....

I doubt that can be changed with just xml. the code for it, i would think, lies somewhere in framework-res. check out the cyanogenMOD codebase or even AOSP.
I believe once were on the official 2.2 for our phones we will have for sure access to it. Guy at the tmo store said the vibrant wont use it til the g2 is launched

To test if you are on hspa or umts go to settings, about phone, status... The stock rom does not show the h in the status bar..

i downloaded an app called "mobile signal widget" and it showes when im oh the "H" speed
I have a T-Mobile account and an android smart phone that includes hotspot service with them. The app that authenticates that uses my phone number to check against the database of phones that are allowed.
Now I know we have the ability to fake an IMEI, but can we also fake a mobile number so my nook color can sign into my hotspot account?

I'm a bit confused regarding your situation. I suppose my situation may differ from yours but all works for me. I have a mytouch 4g with the wifi hotspot app and have no issues connecting my nook and (or) any other pc or phone to my wifi hotspot.

He's asking if it's possible to configure his Nook to masquerade as his phone, rather than tethering to his phone first.
Settings, Call Settings, Additional Settings, My phone number
Believe it helps my NC use my Fios apps that appear to require a valid number
You've got it right. Want to make the nook pretend to be my phone.

I successfully use this technique via the call settings to enter a phone number to get the fios remote app to work, BUT I find the phone number entered doesn't stick to well. It always seems to revert to unknown after some time which can be from a few hours to a few days of use.
I suspect the number is cached somewhere but then the OS decides to refresh it from a non-existent SIM and it gets lost. Currently I have to check the phone number each time before firing up the fios remote app.
Anybody else experience this or know how to make this setting stick.
Hi!
Sorry for the urgent, but my company (where I work) is changing mobile phone company and we want to test the connections/roaming "out in the world"
I'm trying to find an app which can tell me (with use of a log) when the phone is changing between 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE.
So far I've downloaded:
Network Monitor (the yellow icon)
2G 3G 4G LTE Network Monitor
Network Cell Info Lite
Network Signal Info Pro (yes, I bought it)
But I don't feel I got the right app yet -.-
Any help to what app can do what I'm looking for?
2g/3g network switcher by xorware will help maybe
i didn't tried

It doesn't seem like what I'm looking for, but it did lead me to this app: Cell Connectivity Tracker
So I'll try that. The Huawei P8 Lite is compatible with that app
Any suggestions is welcome
I'm searching for app to simplify changing from home carrier to local roaming. Basically it can be shortcut or some app to bypass searching for networks everytime I want to change. Something like this: when I'm in place where Virgin Mobile has best coverage I'm using Virgin but when it's T-Mobile I'm changing to T-Mobile. I know it should be done automatically but it's not and when I'm in my workplace I have max 3 bars 2G signal in my home carrier and when I change to T-Mobile local roaming I also have 2-3 bars but 3G.
Hey,
I have a signal problem in my area and i wondering if there is any android app that can accept call divert action(paid and free) from my service provider vodafone and Jio). BothI Itried several apps but too much adverts and fake apps.
thanks in advance.
ps : signal boosters are banned in my area
