[Q] Looking for general thoughts on Optimus V - pre-CM7 & post - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hello All,
I've been an android user since the days of the G1. Currently I'm rocking the Evo 3D. My wife has been using an iPhone 3GS for the past few months (it was a hand-me-down from her dad).
I'm getting pretty fed up with all the rigmarole that goes into updating/jailbreaking/unlocking the iPhone and I'd love to get her an android phone. She hardly uses any minutes (currently she's on a pre-paid from TMO).
I'm thinking the Optimus V is probably one of the better options for a pre-paid Android phone. Can anyone give me their thoughts on how it performed before you modded it? After?
How's the speed/call clarity/general performance?
Apologies in advance if there's already another thread out there, but my initial searches turned up nothing.

I didn't find any differences in the call clarity. But in performance and speed, you'll find great improvements. BTW I've Optimus One but it a modded ROM improves performance in general.

The Hero, worth purchasing?

I am selling my iPhone right now to buy a hero locally for $250. Im jumping on the deal, because I love the phone, android and everything.
The only thing I don't like is the fact that I wont be able to use my 3G with AT&T.
Is EDGE going to be painfully slow on the Hero?
Should I not buy the 100, and try to buy a 300?
Because there's no way in hell I'm going to get one for this price!

Edge is painfully slow compared to 3g once you have experienced it.
I got the phone today. I've been using EDGE, and AT&T isn't that bad at all. Things seem fine. I'm sure 3G would be faster, but for now I don't mind at all.
let us know.. what u think between..
the phones
and the data speeds.
BTW: welcome to android
I'm going to buy a new mobile phone...
I had in mind HTC Hero and Motorola Milestone...
For now I use E71, but I'm looking to change OS (from Symbian to Android)
But, I can't make up my mind...
HTC Hero would be cheaper (Moto Milestone would cost more)
But, realy, I need your help, to tell me witch phone is better...
witch would you recomend?
hero is an awesome phone. i have been using it for last 5 months. but the problem is that developers are abandoning hero for nexus one. many modders have already bought nexus one and have stopped working on hero anymore and its quite logicla that why they will develop roms for an older phone while they have a pone with 1 ghz processor. as said developement of hero roms, themes, apps have become pretty slow for last 1-1.5 months and it will become worse. so right now buying hero isnt a very good idea in my honest opinion. better buy nexus one which is all interested in. cheers
Hero is an excellent phone. However, I'd personally go for the Nexus One right now.
I'll be developing for the Hero until this time next year, when my contract runs out
Update on my Hero.
I enjoy this phone much much more than my iPhone. Multitasking, customization, everything I wished I could do on my iPhone I can now do with my Hero.
The EDGE speed sometimes gets to me, such as when downloading applications. 3G is definitely faster, but the difference isn't so much that I regret my decision.
As for people updating and developing new Hero roms, I don't see why every dev would switch to the Nexus one. Yes, it's better, but I'm sure they understand that not everyone has a Nexus one. It would make no sense to just develop Nexus roms.\
I love everything about the Hero. I have the European version, so I have the chin, which I really like. I like having physical buttons on the outside too!

The vast majority of developers will likely only develop for phones they currently have/use. If a Hero developer buys a Nexus, there is a strong possibility that they would abandon support for the Hero, because they have little incentive to do so.
There are exceptions of course - Paul @ MoDaCo still supports the Hero even though he has a Nexus, but the speed of his releases has definitely slowed. However, this may be due to the fact that there is little new material out there to work with.

THX.
but, is it better to buy Milstone or Hero now??
If I were you, I'd buy neither - I'd get a HTC Desire when it is released in the next couple of months.

Still Happy w/ Your Thunderbolt?

Hi guys,
I'm planning to upgrade to a TB hopefully
this weekend, but also considering the iphone.
I'm about 70/30 in favor of the TB
Just wanted to get your input and see if you
guys that already have your TB, used it, gotten
comfortable etc:
- Can you still say that you are happy w/ your
decision?
- any items that you dislike that you've discovered
from your daily use that you had not noticed before?
- build quality still holding up well?
Thanks for your time
I've had my bolt for about 2 months now and I am very pleased with it. I never had the reboot issues so that was a non factor. Battery life honestly isn't that bad. I can make it 12 hours which is enough.
That's probably largely due to rooting and installing custom ROMs, which is actually the biggest advantage. The developer support is massive on this device, at least matching what I was used to on the Incredible, which had some of the best dev support next to the Evo and Nexus devices.
Don't fret the lack of a dual core processor, I honestly thought I would but clocked at 1.4 I don't notice ANY lag. And honestly, having a slow network (IE not Verizon 4G) would cause far more noticeable slow down than not having a second processor.
Hope this helps!
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt
I agree with all of the above. I've had mine about 2 months as well, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I briefly considered exchanging my TB for a Droid Charge, but the Charge dev support is virtually nonexistant, and I can't stand Touchwiz. I've had better battery life with other phones, but I routinely get 16-20 hrs on my TB and I have a couple of extra batteries, so the battery isn't an issue for me. Mine is slightly overclocked (1.4ghz) and the Sense UI is silky smooth, so even though it has a single core cpu, it handles everything I throw at it. As mentioned before, you'll appreciate the difference between 3G vs. 4G much more than single vs. dual core.

I agree too . I had iphones since first gen . Even when iPhone 4 came out I was talking smack bout Android phones . But I switched to Verizon from ATT and was debating either iPhone 4 again or thunder bolt . Picked the TB to test out . And gladly I say I made a good move that day . Great phone and puts the iPhone in the ditch .

I love it. Das BAMF just came out with 4 new rom versions under 24 hours.
Christmas in July.
But to answer "- Can you still say that you are happy w/ your
decision?" Yes because it has kickstand.

Yes because it has kickstand.

When I bought this phone I thought the kickstand was absolutely the dumbest thing I've ever seen on a phone. Fast forward three months and now if I look at a phone and it doesn't have a kickstand I wonder how the user is able to deal with it.
Mine did nothing but glitch and power off with factory flash. 1 week later I love it... running MR2.5, BAMF Stripped 2.1, and lots of apps.
Temptation
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is tempting to me. I personally think the device looks amazing.
I remember when a kickstand and a FFC were the big draws.
I even got a 3rd line on my account just so I could get this phone.
But with 3D phones, dual core processors and fancier UIs I'm a little bummed out about this phone. If it wasn't for BAMF I'd have probably just sulked until the next big thing. As you can see I don't wait long to jump on the newest device (BTW, the mythical Bionic and GS2 don't impress me so it might be a looooong wait ):
Droid 1 - 11/09 - 4/10
Droid Inc - 4/10 - 7/10
Droid X - 7/10 - 3/11
Thunderbolt - 3/11 - present
The thunderbolt is well beyond expectation. The 4G LTE network is literally 20 to 30 times faster than the iPhone's 3G network, there are a couple dozen ROMs to test, and Android is better than iOS.
Also, there's a kickstand on the Thunderbolt, how can you not love it? If you overclock to 1.4 GHz like many of us do, you will most likely notice no lag. If you're smart with your battery, and take steps to save it, you should be able to get 12+ hours with it, even with somewhat heavy internet use and even a few videos or games everyday.
I love my Thunderbolt.
I had read all about battery life issues but decided to go for it anyway.
No battery issues to speak of and after rooter and going to BAMF the battery is even better.
The 4G speed is outstanding where available. I get 5mbps around my area (Mountain View, CA) but when I go to San Francisco it hits 20mbps+. Doesn't seem to matter where in San Francisco I am either, speeds are always amazing.
I never thought I'd use the kickstand. I just thought it would be there.. but I use it all the time. I do wish you could charge the phone while using the kickstand.. this seems like a major screw up on the people who designed the phone.
The Thunderbolt is the best 4g option right now, if it were me I'd get it before 7/7 to get locked into the unlimited 4g. If 4g isn't something you care about then I'd say the Droid X or X2. I like my Thunderbolt but not as much as my X, the thunderbolt is lacking in build quality, Motorola have always had the best from my experience.
my friend had one, but he sold it allready and will never buy a htc again.
He told me, it was ok, but nothing special..
most older htc models sucks anyway, mostly because of their bad camera and clumsyness.
Still loving the Thunderbolt. While the charge has a nicer looking screen, I still prefer HTC and the Sense UI over any other UI
I went from an Incredible to the tbolt and its not a switch I've second guessed for a second. Had mine rooted the same day I got it. I don't see how an iFone holds a candle to the tbolt in any way.
appreciate everyone's response

i keep seeing mr1/2 throughout the forums - what exactly is/does that mean? from what i've read it does it have to do w/ gingerbread at all?

for overclocking, is there a tutorial on how to get that done? is that involving changing the kernal or something?
- - Another question I had that for you guys: on my current blackberry I have multiple email accts on it
w/ the thunderbolt how many email accts can you setup on it? is it only 1 main one that we need to forward all emails to or ability to setup multiple accts?
thx again

Wow that is how I felt. I thought phones with kickstands were absolutely DUMB. Now after having the TBolt for a few weeks I can't see how I ever lived without one haha. I LOVE this phone. The build quality is awesome. It's not scary to put down and handle like the iPhone 4 (glass cell phone....really? idiots!!!). The only thing I'm not huge on is battery life but I got the extended 2750mAhbattery so it all works out! Screw the locked down garden of iOS and get the TBolt!!

Not hating on you but you really think the Droid X/X2 have a better build quality? My buddy has the X and to me it feels cheaper than the TBolt. Obviously it's our opinions and subjective overall but it just shocked me to read that.

I have 4 different emails setup all update just fine, the main issue with the bolt is htc and vzw screwed the pooch on the OS but the devs stepped up, it does have one of the largest group of devs working on it.
Bamf is runnin' my bolt - smoke that vzw!
One thing I really wish was different is the the location of usb port. I can't use the kickstand and and netflix at the same time, unless I'm lying on my side and have it kickstood portrait mode. I really think that the usb location should have been in between of the onoff button and 3.5 headset port. Tbh anywhere but the side it is now. =)
I love it. Rooted with a little love it is a very powerful device..stock is another story..

[Q] Recommend reliable Android phone ?

Hello,
could somebody recommend me a good Android phone with a decent battery and eventually a good support concerning custom ROM on xda?
I plan to buy one for my wife -she currently has a customized HTC HD2 with Android (NAND), but due to bad battery life and some reliability problems (FCs, drop of data connection, etc.) she wish for herself a "stock Android" phone. I intend to buy her this phone as a Christmas present, so it should fulfill as much as possible the baterry and reliability requirements (the requirement of good custom ROM support is just "nice to have").
Thank you very much in advance for any advice / recommendation.

Ive had an HD2 running NAND roms (cmylxgo,hyperdroid...) and really liked it. Touch screen went out (i ordered a new one to try and save it).
Just bought Galaxy s2 for wife and Sensation 4G for me-tmobile 14 day trial will allow me to exchange the one I like the least.
Heres the problem.
My rooted HD2 seemed FASTER internet, CLEARER video streaming, better BATTERY (Yes, I said it!) and overall better than Galaxy 2s and Sensation 4g!
**Is it possible that the rooted ROMS are that much better than the stock roms on the newer phones?
a post above also states the Amaze is probably the better choice than the Sensation anyway? True???
Ive got 9 days left!!!!!!! Am I crazy? or, once I remove all the clutter by rooting the new phones, they will crush all others???

Can't Decide.. If I go to Sprint.

I'm most likely leaving AT&T and coming to Sprint. There are 3 good phones on Sprint and it's really hard to decide which one to get. The Evo 4g LTE, SGS3, or the GN for Jelly Bean. If anyone could give me their opinions on those 3 devices (best roms, mods, etc.) that would be great. The GN is now only $99 on Sprint. Ugh. I hate that I can never make a decision.

What did you like of the EVO over the sgs3?
Also I looked on Sprint's coverage map and it shows that I am in "fair" territory. Does that mean I'll have poor signal?
I'm in the same boat. I have been an Android user since Day 1 since Oct 2007. I loved it. But I bought the Samsung Vibrant 2 years ago and was very sure that I would never buy another Samsung phone given their sorry upgrade track record and not releasing source code and binaries for their radios. So i was pretty sure I was going to grab the One X. The EVO LTE looks like the best one since it had a micro SD card and a dedicated camera button. The lack of removable battery is a problem, but after reading the reviews on the battery life, I thought I'd risk it.
But two things happened. Samsung released the same S3 model (bar the CPU for the US market) all over the world and they released the source code almost immediately. They don't have a locked bootloader (I know the HTC allows you to unlock it - bit it breaks the warranty). I hated ODIN initially, but it does make the Samsung phones practically unbrickable and they don't lock the bootloader, so I don't lose the warranty if I root it and install a custom ROM. I can always ODIN it back to stock and get a replacement if something goes wrong with the phone.
I haven't been keeping up with the HTC ROMs anymore so I don't know how it's going these days. I have been using ICS on my Vibrant since December. How long have you guys had an ICS ROM for the original EVO?
What's giving me pause in going for the EVO LTE is
1. Would the custom ROM scene on the EVO LTE be as good as the one on the S3? Given that the S3 is practically the same worldwide and Steve Kondik is now a Samsung employee with access to resources that might help CM10?
2. The reports of the multi-tasking on the EVO LTE are worrying. If the reason that the battery life is decent on the One X is because it's aggressively dropping background processes, that's not what I want. If I wanted crippled multi-tasking, I'd have bought an iPhone. How's the multi-tasking? If you load a game in the background, a browser loading a page in the background and switch to the email app, is it responsive? If you go back to the browser, does it start loading the page again? Or has it finished loading the page? I use planetandroid.com as my test case since it gives even Firefox on the desktop a problem (although Chrome on the desktop doesn't have any issues with it).
3. I read that it's because Sense is so resource hungry, they traded the multi-tasking to keep it in memory, but I see that that still doesn't work and Sense does keep getting swapped out and has to restart when exiting email or the browser or some big game. Is this still a problem with Nova Launcher? I read that this has been set at the kernel level. Does Auto Memory Manager help? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lim.android.automemman
I guess the extra 1 GB on the S3 helps. I have read some comparisons that the S3 is smoother multitasking than the EVO LTE.
I'd love to hear whether these are real problems or a custom ROM would solve them.
Edit: BTW, my biggest problem with the S3 is the display. It looks very dim. The One X simply smokes it!
Thanks guys.

After the updates sense no longer reloads, for me anyway. Multitasking aside, the One X has had the best battery life on any phone I've ever had by far. Android or iPhone. I love the One X that's why this is so hard for me to decide. The white Evo LTE looks sick. I'm also starting to like the customization of the sgs3 the more reviews I watch of it.
I just got 3 hours of screen on time on my One X before it got to 50%. By far my best yet.

I bought the nexus and it was amazing with vanilla ics roms were pretty awesome too, the curve to your hand made it by far the best hand held experience of any phone the only down side to it had sub par battery life I had to carry 2 batteries
I now have bought an EVO LTE and its nice but I think cause of the non curve it feels like a mini tablet atleast to me , but holy carp is it fast and snappy , and super bright, I did like a whole lot better on the nexus was swiping left to right to close out the task menu , sense made it so you can only go up to close them out wich Is slow and they didn't add the feature in the browser like the nexus did

If you go with the S3 u will be happy, after I had it for a couple of days all the extra customization of the S3 seemed trivial.and gimmicky, it was cool at first especially the gestures... But I ended up not using them at all. Yes I think the S3 is smoother than the EVO, but not by much. I hated the physical home button, it had way too much lag, and that's even with the S-voice turned off. You don't get full use of the home screen realestate on the stock UX, which was annoying. Those where my only complaints. My past three phones have been sammys, that's another reason I chose the HTC, I just wanted a change, and the build quality(external) and feel of an HTC phone in my opinion is far superior to Samsung. In the end don't beat yourself up with the desicion you will be extremely happy with either phone. Oh and I made the switch to sprint from ATT due to ATT raping me on data charges... Now I have to sacrafice service, but its worth the trade off.

With the Evo having source out now do you think it will get jb fairly quick? Same question for sgs3.
Also my One X gets pretty hot and I don't know if it's the battery causing it. I would love to be able to change out the battery. I miss that option.

I have "fair" coverage and I needed to get an Airave because I had zero or one bar everywhere in my house and couldn't have a conversation with anyone. Luckily, they gave me an Airave for free so now I have five or six bars everywhere in my house.

More info please....
the NV upgrades near me have been brutal, tons of dropped calls, especially while on the move, but even still while sitting at home. I would also check the NV upgrade schedule to see if they are even coming to your area any time soon...I agree though, wait on sprint until NV is up and running in your area.
The S3 is indeed almost identical as the international version, with the exception that it uses the S4 krait like the ones in the Evo LTE, putting it in the same situation as the LTE and the One X. The One X's community looks to be pretty active, but with a different processor than ours, the roms are not exactly interchangable, so i would expect the same issue to be present for the LTE-specced S3s.
If you're talking about development though then the multitasking and sense issues shouldn't be a problem unless you actually like sense, in which case all i have to say is you're boned .
I chose the Evo because I like how solid aluminum bodied phones feel, and I have never liked the oversaturation that is present on every amoled-based screen that i've looked at. I held off upgrading from my OG Evo because when i held the SGS2 and then the Gnex, they both felt flimsy and cheap in my hands compared to my Evo. I'm sure that they're probably all equally fragile when dropped, but for something where i'm holding it any time i'm going to use it, the feel was very important to me, so i would say it mostly comes down to personal preference, like Mitsu Evo vs Subaru STi, or Cameros vs Mustangs, test drive them both and see which one you'd like best.

Yes. The same issue would be present for the S3 if the CPU is the only change. But I expect that the S3 would be probably be a well supported phone since it would sell so many and many devs would have it. I have been out of the HTC scene for a couple of years so don't know if the EVO has had good custom ROM support. eg. I have been running ICS since Dec/Jan on my Vibrant.

Sorry, what does "you're boned" mean? I'm an idiot for liking Sense, or if i use Sense, then the multitasking is a problem? I like the stock Google UI using Nova Launcher. But I haven't seen any definitive answer on whether using Nova Launcher alleviates the multi-tasking problem. If it does, then I'd be okay with not using Sense, although I do like some Sense widgets. But I can live with out them.

I have got used to the "flimsy" Samsung phones. I like the lightweight feel of them and they are surprisingly resilient. Check out the CNet's torture test for the S3. http://cnettv.cnet.com/8301-33814_53-57468819-10391737.html It's intense.

The S3 is definitely well supported and got a CM10 preview release this morning. The sprint variant has great devs lurking in the background so there's still lots of good stuff to see released.

Why have you switched smartphones in the past? A history perhaps.

Hi everyone I'm curious to find out peoples history regarding smartphones and the reasons they may have chosen their next one...
1. Droid 1. Awesome phone great battery life awesome hackability...constant reboots and random hardware issues. Went through three of these with various hardware issues and eventually graduated to...
2. HTC Thunderbolt. Released before LTE efficiency and battery tech could catch up with each other. Fast as hell when configured properly and could still probably be a decent phone if oc'ed and running jelly bean. Eventually gave up on bloaty sense and the choked out development scene brought to us by either verizon or htc. (Probably the former).
3. Iphone 4...I know I know don't want to start a flame war. Gave up kickass 4g a nice big yet underwhelming screen and all of googles love to switch to the big evil apple...Like Adam and eve after the first bite I couldn't get enough. Top notch screen, brilliant responsiveness, great app ecosystem and ultimately good customisation if jailbroken. But it was all surface fluff... I missed my 4g and was worried about losing grandfathered unlimited data oj my next 4g phone so I jumped ship. I still think apple makes great products and there is something to be said about a closed ecosystem.
4. Rezound. Love this phone and now that chad has opened the floodgates to the amazing opportunities granted by aosp/cm/jb/miui////// I just can't wait to see what happens next. Thanks rezound community for sticking around and fostering good spirits through the bullsh** that is the verizon update process. I know we should just buy a phone for what it is at release and be happy, but all of us here see the true potential of our very powerful devices without bloated and antiquated gb sense. It's good to support it ourselves if the companies that sell it won't.
Yeesh I got a little lost and tangential or whatever but this is what I've been wondering about since I started flashing roms and hacking my devices. Now with chad bringing us what's really rilly ril I'm excited to hear about others journeys through the minefield of smartphone devices. Also excited I got a nexus 7 coming soon!

OK, I'll play
1. Moto Q9C- wanted a phone that had a hardware keyboard and internet. It was either this or a BB, which had a higher data plan at the time (45 vs 30/ month)
2. TP2- got an upgrade after a year and got my first touchscreen device. Man that thing was a brick. Great phone to dev on, even made my own ROMs.
3. HD2- jumped to t-mobile due to issues with sprint. This phone was and is still a beast.
4. HD7- had to try the new windows phone. Would probably still be on it if t-mobile reception existed. Got out of 4 lines of t-mobile due to bad reception issues.
5. Thunderbolt- came down to 4g lte and android (which I wasn't a huge fan of) or the Trophy which had the windows phone I liked, but small screen and no lte. Think I made the right choice. Love windows phone, but verizon doesn't.
6. Rezound- opened a 5th line to get the rezound on penny sale through amazon. Great phone, no complaints. Don't care about aosp, don't think you should b!tch about something that didn't come stock on the phone. Still has great specs almost a year later.
7. who knows. When windows phone 8 comes out, if verizon gets one with good specs and lte, I might jump back. You definitely use your phone more on WP, than on Android where you spend half the day flashing and customizing.
I'll join in.
1. BlackBerry storm. Ugh
2. OG Droid. The phone that got me hooked on android.
3. Droid X. Great build quality and good development despite the locked bootloader.
4. Droid charge... Only droid I've seen that ran like my blackberry.
5. The rezound. Added a line and for it for a penny from Amazon. Promptly sold the charge and added a dumb phone to the second line.

Well for me, I have a very short smartphone history so here it goes:
1. LG Ally - Didn't really get to pick the phone. After one of my sh*tty "feature" phones from vzw broke I looked around the house and found my moms old LG ally and used it for about 5 months. Loved that thing and hacked the sh*t out of it, loading up Roms like nobody's business. That's when I really fell in love with android.
2. HTC Rezound - when my upgrade came in December I picked the rezzy because it had kick ass specs and thought that it would get ICS shortly after release (which of course was NOT the case and this is the reason why many people got stuck with this phone). Overall I love it, and now thanks to chad who hung around through all the bs with the rezzy, we will shortly have CM9/10 as a daily driver.

1) BlackBerry storm. what ^ said!!
2) Droid X. Loved it. Quality was fantastic and fun to customize despite the locked bootloader.
3) Droid Charge. Despised that piece of junk. Will never buy another Samsung phone again.
4) Rezound. Got Verizon to switch me to this as a warranty replacement for my Charge.
5) Plan on picking up the new iphone whenever it comes out.

My first smartphone. Previous one was a Pantech Jest. Prior experience with Android includes Archos 32 (Eclair/Froyo) and HP Touchpad (CM7/CM9). Next I'll probably get the next generation Nexus, or maybe the one after that.

2.) Droid eris
3.) Samsung fascinate

1.First smartphone was the droid eris, used it a couple months and my uncle convinced me to hack it and actually liked the phone, ready to slap jb on it again
2. I had to get put on a different contract n got stuck with a moto citrus, poc phone, hated it
3. Samsung Galaxy S Continuum, replaced my citrus for free after 4 citrus and then went back to my eris after esn cleared

5. Acer Iconia A500 running JB
Motorola Devour: Small screen, iffy build quality, underpowered android phone. Picked it up on a whim and started my smart phone journey
Motorola Droid X: Great phone, great build quality, loved having physical buttons. First phone that I rooted and rommed
Motorola Droid X2: This phone had potential (IMHO) but Moto dropped support for it unfortunately. Also suffered the curse of having 512mb RAM... seriously MOTO??? If given another chance I would not purchase this phone again (currently my backup if the Rezound dies)
HTC Rezound: Was looking forward to this phone for months and I love it. Quick, beautiful screen, able to accept a 64gb microsd card, and now s-offed so I can do with it what I want.
Future maybe:
HTC DLX: possible quad core, 5" 1080p screen.... drool
1. LG Voyager...dropped in water..
2. DROID 2 global.....very slow and got very hot....
3. HTC Droid Incredible....returned droid 2...i liked htc sense to much

5. HTC Rezound....HTC Droid Incredible was slow and old now needed upgrade
6. HTC Thunderbolt....i lost it...somewere my house lol
7. HP Touchpad wanted a tablet
8. Google Galaxy Nexus...needed a daily phone...
9. Nexus 7 .....sold my touchpad for it...
You're going to like that Nexus 7. I had to get a new one because of screen lift on mine, but other than that, it is great. I worked out of town all week, and left the laptop home, just took my rezound, and my nexus 7.
HTC 6700 (got old)
HTC 6800 touch (got old)
HTC Desire (left cellcom)
HTC EVO (gave to wife)
B&N Nook Color (still have)
HTC EVO 3d (got rid of sprint)
Sammy gallexy nexus (sammy radios suck)

Yeah I'm excited to see the possibilities of unlimited 4g tethering on a snappy tablet. I'm glad I got grandfathered in to the cloud future!

you know the new iPhone is the same exact thing, only with a slightly taller screen right?
1. Samsung Omnia i910
2. HTC Incredible
3. HTC Rezound
Alright My turn!
HTC Sensation: frickin amazing phone. Beautiful design, nice qHD (best at the time I got it) screen, HSPA, beautiful design, curved glass, great development (never really got I to development on this one tho ) oh did I mention a beautiful design? It was the perfect phone. However, T-Mobile has the WORST service in my area so I returned it after 2 weeks :'(
HTC Rezound: The sensation got me really in to HTC so I wanted to get an HTC for my phone I was going to keep, I knew verizon had good signal in my area so I wanted to go with them. I saw the Galaxy Nexus at the announcement in November and wanted the Nexus (Epic foreshadowing), and was horribly disappointed with the iPhone announcement a month earlier in October, but when the Rezound was on sale for a penny on amazon, PLUS 4Gb of data, I had to spring. It was a meh phone, lacked development and jelly bean wa just announced, so I found a sucker on Craigslist and traded it for a...
Galaxy Nexus: Awesome phone. Amazing screen, size design. Best phone I ever owned. Better than the sensation even, and I never thought I would say that. With CM9 it's amazing and as soon as cm10 RC1 pops up, I'm flashing that.
iPhone 2G: Never Activated. Bought on eBay just to play around with, keep me content with the mess that was the HTC ReZound. Installed Android 2.3.3 on it and Jailbroke and Unlocked the iOS side of it. It's fun to play with but definitely shows it's age
HTC DROID Incredible: never activated. Bought on Craigslist So i can get I to development a little. What an amazing little thing. I like to use it more than any of my other phones. A little slower than the other things so not a daily driver but it's so fun to tweak, and I can get a week of battery life out of that thing.
iPad 3 16GB VZW 4G: wanted a tablet, android tablets just weren't up to par at the time, so I picked this up. I love it. Hell I'm using it now. The display is really what made me choose it over an android. Preordered it and it arrived on my doorstep on launch day, Mar 14. Running a beta of iOS 6 right now and I have Siri on it.
So that's the history of all my smartphones and tablets

Awesome avatar dude :good:
1) LG Env3 it was my first smarter than a dumb phone
2) Samsung fascinate by first android device, paid 200 for it off of Craigs list. had to wait a long time for froyo but the developers stayed with it and now its running jelly bean. its my current back up.
3) HTC Rezound my second android device bought it for 200 back in February because i wanted a dual core phone that had a nice screen and the 4G speeds with no data limit. still bone stock because i was going to wait for the ota.
4) HTC Thunderbolt got it for 100 of craigs list because my dads droid x's screen went out and he needed my fassy, it was already running cm7 when i bought it and it was pretty quick for having such a crappy gpu.
Tablet
Samsung galaxy tab 7.0 wifi was very dissapointed that it had a omap 3625 instead of the hummingbird. no devs no roms no gingerbread in U.S so i flashed the UK version of gingerbread and now it works great
Oh, let's see if I can remember all of them...
1) iPhone 2G. My very first smartphone.
2) iPhone 3G. Got it simply because I was eligible for upgrade and I like new things.
3) iPhone 3GS. Same as above.
4) Nexus One, my first android smartphone. I loved the design of this thing. All aluminium phones will always have a soft spot in my heart. It's a fairly refreshing to get away from the plastic-dominated phones every once in awhile. I wish more phones would have less plastic and more metal.
5) iPhone 4. What can I say...I didn't have my Nexus One for long. It wasn't that I didn't truly enjoy my Nexus One. It was just that, after having iPhones three times in a row, I was still a little enamored with it, so I got sucked in to the iPhone 4 when it came out mainly because it was new and shiny. Didn't last long, though.
6) Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S). I only had my iPhone 4 for a month. It only took that long for me to realize that I truly did enjoy Android more. Somewhat unfortunately, I had already sold my Nexus One by the time I had realized this, so I opted for the then recently released Captivate. I started with tweaks and custom ROMs right out of the gate. I remember that the Captivate, for some reason, was formatted using RFS or something, so the biggest tweak around was reformatting to EXT2 or EXT4 for much better I/O performance.
7) HTC EVO 4G. This was what solidified HTC as one of my favorite phone manufacturers. I felt that the Nexus One was a very well designed phone and the EVO drove it home for me. Didn't have a single issue with that phone. I remember getting it because Sprint had just come out with 4G. I use my phone primarily for data services so I thought 4G would be a great move. It turned out that WiMAX sucks and that Sprint, in general, wasn't as good coverage and 3G data speed-wise as I had come to expect with AT&T. Neither of those points were against the phone, though, which I thought was excellent.
8) HTC EVO Shift 4G. After having (what was that, 7?) all touch screen phones I decided to try one with a physical keyboard to see if I liked it. I had the phone for less than a month. The physical keyboard felt terrible to me. I don't think it was the keyboard on the Shift itself that was the problem. I think that I had become too accustomed to touch screen keyboards. I was way slower at typing on the physical keyboard. I returned the phone and went back to my regular EVO.
9) Motorola Atrix 4G. I got this phone primarily because Dual Core was the next big thing and because I wanted to switch back to AT&T from Sprint (see #7 as to why). I had no complaints against the phone itself. It performed very well. There was, for awhile, a bit of a snafu about Motorola's bootloader unlocking policy at the time. The Atrix bootloader was eventually unlocked, but if I remember right it was due to a leak and not an official source.
10) Motorola Bionic. So from Sprint, back to AT&T, and then to my first time with Verizon. The reason here was similar to my EVO: Verizon had just launched 4G LTE in my area and I was excited about the prospect of much higher data speeds. Where as Sprint's 4G was a disappointment for me, Verizon really blew it out of the water. I was satisfied with my Bionic at first, but there were some issues with 4G. It would drop 4G far more often than my coworker's phones (Samsung Charge and HTC Thunderbolt) even though we were in the very same place. There were also issues with data hand off between 4G and 3G and even issues with data dropping out entirely. Many people at the Verizon community forums were reporting the same things. Eventually, I got to the point where I was no longer confident that Motorola would fix these issues in a timely manner.
11) Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I wanted to love this phone, I really did. I switched off my Bionic because of the issues I mentioned. I loved the idea of having a Nexus device. Getting timely and guaranteed updates to the latest Android seemed like a blessing. I loved the size of the screen, the way it looked, the performance...I even liked how it felt despite many people calling Samsung phones "plasticy." It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, though. I switched my Bionic because I felt like my 4G LTE connectivity wasn't as good as it should be. Turns out my Bionic's reception was actually leaps and bounds better than the Galaxy Nexus. I had the Nexus for three weeks and reception was down right horrid. In those three weeks I saw 4G LTE in my notification bar maybe a grand total of 3 or 4 times. It was a drastic and noticeable drop from my Bionic. The phone averaged about 20% time spent without a signal. It was terrible. It was sad because I literally liked everything else about the phone.
12) HTC Rezound. As I said, I kept my Galaxy Nexus for only 3 weeks because of terrible reception. When I switched it out for the Rezound it was like night and day. The Rezound immediately connected to and held on to 4G LTE far more often and for longer. I went from being on 3G a majority of the time with my Nexus to having it the other way around. My Rezound would (and does) pick up 4G most of the time while at work. It only drops down to 3G occasionally. Also, where as my Nexus averaged 20% time spent without a signal, the Rezound was and is 0% in comparison. After getting the Rezound I couldn't believe how terrible the Nexus' radio was in comparison. I'm not sure if Samsung or Google ever managed to fix those problems with software. I just know that I didn't want to hang on to it and hope.
Aaaaaand...that's it! My last and current smartphone is the HTC Rezound. I'll admit, I was and maybe still am (a little) tempted by the Galaxy S3 but...well, the terrible reception on the Galaxy Nexus has still left a bit of a bad impression in my mind as far as Samsung phones go. I think Google should go back to HTC for the Nexus phones
I have always been with Verizon since I was 18 and I am now 26. I won't start with the dumb phones since those don't really count...
1. Motorola Q
2. LG Ally (returned and got Droid X instead.)
3. Droid X (I really loved this phone. I might look online or Craigslist to buy another one to setup on my home theater as a media player )
4. HTC Incredible (bought this on Craigslist. Wanted to try CM7 because Droid X didn't have it at the time.)
5. HTC Thunderbolt (traded the Droid.X and Incredible together to someone for this Thunderbolt)
6. IPhone 4S (my brother messed up his phone and needed a new one but didn't have an upgrade. He offered me $200 for my Thunderbolt and I went ahead and figured I would try out an iPhone 4S. I loved the build quality and the selection of apps, but I just missed Android and preferred all of the customization and roms.
7. HTC Rezound (Traded the 4S and don't regret it one bit.)
