I just installed ultima 5. now, my phone cannot find my location.
in facebook, when i tries to check-in, it keeps saying loading and does not find the places tht is near me.
in foursquare, when i go to places, it says 'your location could not be found. make sure your gps or network location services are turned on, then try refreshing again'.
under location and security, ive already checked use wireless networks and use gps satellites. before i installed ultima 5, it used to work. so, please help me.
Can you set your location in google maps? Most of the apps I use can't find the location unless it's set in google maps.
What do you mean by setting my location in google maps ?
I mean does gps work on google maps on your phone?

yes, it works on google maps. google maps can find my location.
Sorry to say this buddy but it has to be the rom. You said it yourself it works fine prior to installing it. I tried that rom for one day but I didn't like the fact that the battery was getting too hot even on minimal use. Try reflashing the rom again after a clean install of 2.1 then wipe/ clear everything in xrec. If it still doesn't work, post your problem on the rom thread and see of other users have that problem.

I didn't realize google maps has an offline mode now. I tried it recently but it won't ever finish a search when you type in a destination. I think it's trying to get my location first?
Is there a workaround?
Hmm no replies. Actually I had google maps launched previously before I went offline. I just tried to launch it now and it times out saying this application requires a working network connection.
Then how is one supposed to use google maps offline mode?!
You must run Google maps once with a network connection after it is upgraded to re-cache maps. It only caches maps, not any place or other data.

Ok maybe I was premature in trying this feature. But now the latest version of google maps says it has offline mode. I chose an area and downloaded. The area I chose was somehwhat big, my city and immediately surrounding cities. All the street names are there but yet it's still not searchable. I thought maybe it doesn't have the address numbers but even searching by intersections doesn't work.
So the offline mode is just a simple map to look at?!
Yes.

I've just looked at my apps list in the play store and there is loads of my installed apps missing they are installed on my phone but not showing up in the list. Could someone please tell me where they have gone and how to get them back.

This has happened to me as well. I think I started after Google Play was updated to version 4.3.11.
I have like 120 apps installed. The "Installed" tab under "My apps" now says I've got 9: Barcode Scanner, GTasks Key, K-9 Mail, Official XBMC Remote, Pure Calendar, Pure Grid Calendar, Soundhound, Superuser and USSD/MMI Fix. If I flip to the "All" tab, all my apps are still there. From there I can view information about the apps, but those that are not among those 9 will say that they're not compatible with my device.
My device is a rooted HTC Desire Z (called G2/Vision in North America), with some "EliteMod" 4.0.4 ROM - which have been working perfectly for well over a year. I was thinking it was some kind of Apple-style scam by Google to force users of old, rooted devices to upgrade.. xD
When trying (and failing) to figure out how to tell a living person at Google that 90 % of my installed apps and probably 99 % of the apps in Play Store are missing, I discovered the following added comment here:
"We’ve heard of some users suddenly missing apps under the My Apps section of the Google Play Store app. This is a known issue that we are currently investigating, and updates can be found on our Known Issues page."
I found no updates on it on the "Known issues" page, though.
I have the same problem
Hey guys,
I have the same problem after updating Play Store to 4.3.11. My installed apps went missing, I am not able to search for any apps on Play Store, app in all apps tab arent available in my country anymore (all these apps were available in my country before the update) play.google.com does not show my device, well its really frustrating. I wonder when google will fix this problem. I guess its something to do with their framework services.

I've fixed it today, I'm not exactly sure how, as I tried a dozen different things I read online. Including uninstalling Adfree, removing hosts-file, clearing app-data for some Google Service-apps, flashing gapps one more time, etc.
But what I did just before it started working again, was to remove my Google account (the one used on Play Store, you can remove it from "Accounts/Synchronization" under Settings), restart the device, and then re-add the account again (in "Accounts/Synchronization"-settings). Then everything became as perfect as it was.

Thanks trollsperm. I will try that today. BTW, I have observed one more thing. The playstore works just fine after a new flash on Wi-Fi, but it goes back to the no working state as soon as I switch from Wi-Fi to Mobile Network. Have you encountered that?
I have tried your suggestion of deleting the account and re-add the account. This was the outcome
1.The play store started working fine and app sync was flawless. This was on Wi-Fi
2. I switched to the mobile internet and the play store worked fine until I rebooted the phone. The play store stopped working and apps were missing after the reboot with the mobile network on.
3. I then cleared the play store cache and data and switched on WiFi. Opened play store and voila the play store worked normally.
4. I did the same process on the mobile network but it didn't work out.
I guess the Google location services are kinda screwed up on the mobile network and not on WiFi.

Then I'm afraid your issue is different than mine. For me, the result have always been the same, whether or not I'm on Wifi or mobile. I can now browse Play Store both on Wifi and mobile, and rebooting changes nothing.
When I experienced the issue of "empty" Play Store, the Wifi-connection icon in the upper right corner were always gray (instead of blue) - something that's usually only happening if I'm connected to a wireless network, but the router isn't connected to the actual internet.
My conclusion is inconclusive, I'm just happy that it's back to normal..
Hi guys,
I'm facing the exact same problem as rahulananda.
In my case, the play store running on my Galaxy S4 and also on my notebook, is empty - searchs returns nothing and whey I access directly an app page, it says the app is not available in my country (Brazil).
For me, play store works fine over when mobile data (4G) is enabled, it doesn't work at all on wifi.
I also have a Galaxy S3 which is working perfectly on wifi and also mobile data.
It doesn't seem to be related to play store version, as in all my devices it is currently on version 4.3.11 - besides it is also not working on my laptop.
But, indeed, this is an issue to determine the location - for some reason, over my wifi, and rahulananda's mobile data, Play Store is unable to determine the country.
I found this on Google's Known issues: support.google.com/googleplay/known-issues/1319135?hl=en reffer to issue 8324410.
Hope they fix this soon, this is driving me crazy!!!
Let me know if you find a solution!
Its a simple fix as long as you have root.If you do look at this:
1. Navigate to the Build.prop
2. Find these 2 lines:
Code:
ro.build.description=
ro.build.fingerprint=
3. Delete everything in front of the "=" sign
4. Download a custom rom for another device that has great compatibility with apps(htc one, sgs4)
5. Copy those lines from its build.prop to yours
6. Reboot and Enjoy your market:good:
Well, my problem has been solved after applying the latest CM10 nightly update.

GPS is independent of wifi or your data service...
google maps should work but if not then there are several others in the Play store... MapFactor being one of them
doesnt have navigation, but Maverick is nice for world GPS mappings
Stock Google Maps
Depending on the version you have, stock Google Maps can cache maps for offline use. If you're using the (slightly) older version, you can do it easily by pressing the menu key, selecting Make Available Offline and selecting the area you want to cache.
If you're using the newest Maps, you'll notice the option is gone. Instead, you'll have to zoom in over the area you want to cache, and type in "ok maps" into the search bar and press enter/go. A translucent dialog at the bottom of the screen should appear notifying you that the map has been cached.
Once cached; you should not require a internet connection to use maps. Though I have never actually used it offline, so I am not entirely sure what the experience is like. Also note that this does not save satellite/aerial imaging. Only navigational maps.
I install Google Map in Remix OS 2.0 on my desktop, but it cannot show the location and the app hang. ...
Please help.
Lawrence
Same problem here. I guess we need to wait for the next OS release to get this fixed. By the way, Google earth and Sygic are working.
Best, maris
I have exatly the same problems. Google Maps and any apps using Google Maps don't work. The problem is probably as Remix doesn't recognize properly location.

Sorry to hear about that. Do you have any other google apps installed? Go to settings and applications. Select google play store. Delete data. Open chrome and type in the search field "google play services", should take you to the google play store and it should update google play services. Install the "google" app and make sure the cards are working (to make sure play services is working correctly). Go back to settings and then put location settings on "high accuracy". Make sure google maps is set on full screen. Then launch google maps.
Nothing help. Google Services can't be updated as it's ... updated to the latest version. Apk Google works with some little problems but it works. Maps are in full screen - doesn't help. Cashe cleaned - same, nothing. Maybe next Remix version will change it.
Sampe problem here, it's cannot load the map
Google maps cannot detect your location as you are using desktop and it does not have a gps or and google maps search for gps and gets crashed because theres no gps so eighter remix os have to disable gps but it cant because some devices have gps
Same problem here Laptops do not have a GPS. I have set the location services to Network WIFI only and still cant find my location. Google maps crashed and all other apps that use location will not give me my location.
Hi all. Running 5.3.1 unrooted. Installed the xda-labs app to run pokemon go and wifi tether off of my phone with wifi location on. "GPS not found" is at the top of the screen. So here's where it gets interesting. I have 3 fire hd6s for my girls. I installed G-apps (services, store, vending, and one other one) and ran Pokemon Go again. It worked! On one of the Fires... the other two not so much. For some reason the one that worked would bring up a google prompt to turn on location services with a different screen than you would not find within fire os. There must be two location services. One for Google and one for Amazon. Anyone know of a way (without root) to force google location services instead of amazon? Anyone else in this weird Pokeboat? Thx! SL0
UPDATE: Went to get the new 0.31 version from xda labs, but it wasn't posted. When I opened up 0.293, it asked to update the app and sent me to the play store to do the update. Previously the play store said the app was incompatible, so that was a nice change to know I had a legit version. I started up the app and still got No GPS found. I also noticed that google log in was not available from the log in screen... will try Play Games... maybe the log in will force the new location service...

Nope... well yes, on two now... the ones I wasn't busy installing and uninstalling. It could be because I loaded the google play stuff though APK instead of an ADB push. Regardless, the two that work are problematic because the location is based off of the tower where your phone is using the hotspot from. If that happens to have a pokestop there you're in luck. Walking around connected to a mobile hotspot doesn't really seem to be all that great. The juice really isn't worth the squeeze. If anybody figures out a better way to use a mobile hotspot let us know

And I figured out how to get it to work, at least on my Amazon Fire Phone!
I too was getting the dreaded GPS Not Found error in Pokemon Go. I even downloaded a GPS app from the Amazon App Store just to make sure that my GPS was indeed working, and maybe even to force Pokemon Go to see the GPS. Yes, the GPS was working, but it didn't force Pokemon Go to start seeing the GPS. I even did a factory reset on my Fire Phone and reinstalled G-Apps because of the other issues with the Google Play Store which came along with this error for those of us on the Amazon Fire Phone. I redownloaded Pokemon Go, and....... I still had the darned GPS Not Found error!
So I restarted my Fire Phone, hoping that might help, reran Pokemon Go, and I suddenly got the pop-up asking me to verify location services, even though I had just enabled them when resetting the phone! Now, when I first got the error after the full reset and reinstall of G-Apps and Pokemon Go, I had checked my location services and they were set to the highest and most precise level. When I got the pop-up and allowed location services, it set the location services on my Fire Phone to the lowest possible resolution, GPS Only. Guess what? Pokemon Go now works!
My best guess is that the latest Google Play Store update which broke the Play Store for those of us using Fire Phones, broke something in the highest accuracy settings of our Amazon Fire devices, and by switching to the lowest level of accuracy, GPS Only, Pokemon Go was able to find our onboard GPS (In your case the tethered GPS) and run correctly. I'll bet you dollars to donuts that the two Kindle Fire's you own which ARE working are now set at the lowest GPS accuracy setting, and the one which isn't is still set at the highest level of accuracy.
Anyways, I hope this helps!
Enable Google Location Services
source: pokemongokindlefire . com
Amazon Kindle settings > Location > Turn OFF
Google Maps > Press My Location icon
It will prompt you to enable Google Location Services. Hit "Yes".
Issue solved.
