Hey guys. I just got my unlocked S2. After looking around I like the default apps and stuff. Kies Air is awesome too. If I flash do I lose those apps? Am an experienced user. And think yeah but dunno. Worth flashing a ROM? stock stuff is nice.

I have been thinking the same to!
Hello there. It depends on what you are flashing. There are two kinds of roms, those based on official sammy roms and ASOP roms (like cyanogen) which are clean and built from scratch. If you don't want to lose the other apps I recommend you flash a rom based on official sammy roms or just root because usually ASOP roms don't contain much and they can't use any sammy based programs/apks.

Well for some reason with this phone I like Samsung apps. So no ASOP this time. Weird. Well what are some good Samsung custom ROMs?

Yeah, I like them too. You could try:
Lite'ning Rom
Exynos Extreme
Criskelo Rom
I've tried these and they're good. Samsung goodness but faster and snappier. Enjoy flashing.
Basics are you root if you need root it does not make your phone go faster .
Custom roms may or may not wipe apps its all in the description of each rom .
Little performance difference between custom and stock rom .
jje
Root- It's a must imo.
A Custom ROM- Depends on how mad you are about them. I am not.
I agree just root with cfroot if you like the stock apps etc.
Personally I think KI8 is worth a look.

So I want to install some custom ROM but as I can see EVERY ROM has some bugs and I really hate that, is there any ROM that can be installed and that they are bug free, I want to use the phone, not flash it every week. I really like CriskeloROM, it looks great and it has that great camera tweak for better sound but it has some BT issues etc. So other are, MIUI, Cyanogen and Darkys, are they bug free ?
Thanks
MIUI based on CM7 & AOSP, CM7 based on AOSP, both of these are not yet stable but good enough for daily usage, camera's are much weaker compared to stock Samsung.
Samsung based roms stick with something based on stock, like VillainRom, KitchenRom, and such. Plenty to choose from.
Or custom roms such as Cog, CheckRom, HyperDroid, plenty to choose from. Read each one and see what users are saying about them, best way is experimenting yourself.
Then either stick with CF Root as a kernel based on stock or experiment with others like Speedmod, Siyah and a like.
Asking a general question like this will usually lead to comments from users on roms they are currently on saying its the best etc, so you'd be even more lost!
I could say X is good Y would say Z is good and such
for one why do you want to flash a custom ROM? first answert that to yourself
if answer comes i rerally dont want, then simply root your phone.
you can always flash stock newer roms like 2.3.5 roms
i for one actually dont need custom roms as im very much happy with stock and anything i cant do on stock i can after root.
i used to use custom roms when on my older htc phones when stock were slower and custom roms were faster, but with this specs stock is fast enough.
Thanks to both. Well, I want to have that better camera that has better video and sound and also I like those lock screen on CriskeloROM with shortcuts like HTC. And I hope that they have better battery and are fasgter than stock !? If, not, is there 2.3.5 stock that has Croatian language and I coul try ti use that rooted first and remove some Samsung annoying apps, right now KIES says 2.3.3 is the latest. I definitely dont want worse camera on my phone, only better so pelase direct me in the right way because I dont know where I can find stock 2.3.5 woth better camera app.
Tnx a lot
Cognition for me. Always install ROMs fresh to prevent problems.
Go for a KI4 rom, Criskelo had modified the camera for that 2.3.5 version you can download and just replace using a root file explorer.
As for rom, I'd say look into RomKitchen, optimized stock rom and works well. The guys over there are also very nice and helpful. Like most tbh.
Ok, but can you please point me what I need ? I have CF-Root now and I have read that I should not use ROM Manager for backup of current ROM and I dont know how do make NANDroid backup ? Is that with 3 button combo and then I have that option ?
Also, I see that there are more than one thread with RomKitchen name in it, which one should I take and how can I know if they have croatian because I didnt find that info on any ROM. I can backup my ROM with CWM app ? I have just clicked it and it has rebooted and backuping something on internal memory, I didnt turn on the phone with 3 button combo.
EDIT: is this the one, in the 2nd post ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171523&highlight=kitchen
Tnx
One more thing, if I make complete backup with Titanium and then restore it on some ROM which does not have stock Samsung apps will it be ok then and it will not restore those apps ?
Ah wait, they don't do KI4, only KI8 & KI3 in kitchen.
To flash a rom via CWM, vol up + home + power, I recommend installing fresh, so wipe factory data, cache and dalvik cache under advanced.
Use Titanium to only back up app data for your applications and no system data.
You can use KI8 or KI3 those are good to, KI8 being newer, or from their post KJ1.
http://romkitchen.org/sgs2/?s=generator
I have donwloaded this KitchenApp and there I can see more ROMs and other oprion, I dont need to install other kernel ? Now I have XWKF3. When I choose everything I just press download and it will download it on my phone and from that Kitchen app I can install that ROM ? I can make the ROM in app and here online, it says GAlaxy S but I hope it is for i9100. I generate ROM and then transfer it to root of the mass storage and then flash it trough KitchenPro app on the phone ? It will NOT erase my photos and backups on mass memory ? What backup and with what app should I make before flashing ? I have made some with ROM Manager, I hope it is ok.
What Model and Kernel to choose ?
But if I want to backup apps and widgets from the Market with Titanium ? Or just choose thoe market apps and not system apps and settings ?
Thank you VERY much for your patience but when I make it one time then I will learn, now I have like zillion questions because I come from iPhone 4.
What kitchen app?
Oh you are using CheckROM? That's the newer one, I was talking about RomKitchen.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14934522&postcount=5
I have tested many Roms but for me Hyperdroid from Androidmeda is the best Rom out here.. Fast smooth and a hyper great support... Since this Rom I never switched to another Rom... I am AT HOME

Is CheckROM ok ? It seems great.
@seavers11: please dont mess with my head with another ROM )) I must take one that is bugfree and that it looks great, I dont mind speed and that stupid quadrant score.
CheckRom is good, the kitchen app allows for easy customization.
Just trying out GingerMod and that's lovely as well. AOSP feel based on Samsung firmware with mostly AOSP apps but with some goodies from Samsung left over like camera and such.

Depends on were you live for CSC and modem. I use UK csc and KI1 modem as it gives me better data coverage.
Kernel I'm using latest rc2 of SiyahKernel, running fine so far.
But go for something stable maybe SpeedMod or CF root based on stock later you can experiment with other kernels.

Im in Croatia and now I have CF-Root and it is fine, what else shoul I choose there to make my ROM ? Do I need to take Europe version so I can have Croatian language ?

OMG i just checked that rom and it looks amazing! built for touchwiz haters like me, who still admit that the samsung browser and camera app are far better than stock android
The new Checkrom and Leo's kitchen is very solid, I don't think there's anything bugfree but it gives the easiest option I've seen to try different builds.
Noob question, I purchased a new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi version, I need a based on stock ROM that includes TouchWiz, any help is much appreciated, thanks.

Which one do you recommend that is close to the stock Rom, thanks.
Your question is confusing, and, like most first-time posters, doesn't include enough information.
What do you want this ROM to do? Do you want a "vanilla" ROM (without TW)? Do you want the stock ROM (stock ROMs for the GT10 all have touchwiz)? If you just want a stock ROM, why not just go with the one thats on your GT10 now? If you want a custom ROM, you need to say what you want it to do to get recommendations.
Bah, just look in the development section. There's only 4 or 5 ROMs there. If you don't know what you want then just pick one and try it.

Though it cannot be said close to the stock ROM, I suggest Galaxy Task ROM
Galaxy Task is the only one not themed so it is more like stock Touchwiz than other ROMs.
There are only 2 ROMs in the Dev section that are not Touchwiz and they indicate that. Alterbridge, Task650, and DutchDanny all have created awesome Touchwiz ROMs based on the current release of Honeycomb 3.2. Out of the 3, Task does not theme his anymore and is actually done by bOOsted in a separate thread. Dutchdanny released KMN stock without theme that you can check out.
Both are great and really it is up to you which to keep after flashing them.
Is there a reason it HAS to be stock? Just curious...
Hi everyone, can someone point me out where I could find an ics stock rom that doesn't have touchwiz?
All the versions that I've found are custom, but I would like to try one that hasn't been messed around by Samsung. I really want to try out ICS with the original look.
Regards
I'm lost, you want a samsung stock rom -because you have a samsung device- without the samsung's touch?
I want Android 4.0.4 without the touchwiz interface, isn't that possible?
well...you're talking custom now....but I think you don't want custom...lol that's the thing.
Maybe I didn't explain myself properly in the first post, i basically want a version of 4.0.4 with the normal look. So yes it ends up being a custom
I thought there was a stock version of ICS (from another manufacture) that would work on the GSII, therefore not having touchwiz.
I got what you said. I'm trying to make you see what you're asking for.
You want ICS, 4.0.3.
You don't want TouchWiz
You don't want a custom ROM.
You have a Samsung device.
You want a Stock Samsung ROM.
Samsung uses touchwiz on it's ROMs

This is probably the closest you can get to stock Android..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2076650
Alternatively you could try Cyanogenmod 9 (ICS) or 10 (JB). They are based on pure android (AOSP) but have lost of tweaks and features and are generally much better then stock AOSP.

When I said "stock" I didn't meant a stock rom from samsung, I presume that there is a stock version of Android 4.0.4 (the one I was referring to) and then Samsung changed it with touchwiz.
I didn't (past) want customs since I presumed that there was an official stock version of Android without touchwiz for the GSII, apparently there isn't, so I ended up asking for a custom rom without knowing it was the only way of having what I want.
So to sum up:
I want ICS 4.0.4 (or 4.0.3, don't know the difference)
I don't want Touchwiz
That's it, sorry for the confusion
TheATHEiST isn't that rom Jelly Bean? My battery is already taking a beating with ICS, JB will probably last a lot less right? Although i'm already undervolting and underclocking

But he want ICS.....
@OP There's no confussion, what you want is a custom rom, because you have a SAMSUNG device, and samsung devices, when in STOCK ROMs, always have TouchWiz attached.
Here's an example:
Samsung releases ROM (TouchWiz included of course)
John Q takes that ROM and deletes TouchWiz.
John Q now has a Samsung ROM without TouchWiz. Also Called CUSTOM ROM.

Also he could download another launcher from the Play Store.

He want's an AOSP that is not customed, "the real ICS experience" he said, no custom, stock.
Samsung guys are having a laugh right now.
I keep hearing about the flapjax rom or something, cant find it. I dont think im spelling it right. Where is it? Is it very stable? Looking for the MOST stable rom with good language keyboard support for my mom. She doesnt need all the cool features, might even go with stock but if there's a stock jellybean that's really stable and has a good pack of keyboard languages id love to hear it.
If you want stable, go for an ICS ROM. The devs have done amazing work on the JB ROMs but unfortunately, there are some things that simply can't be done until official drivers and kernel sources are available from Samsung.

Yeah I think Ill do that. Its not like my mom will know the difference between ICS and jB. Rather have it work 100% than 90% for her.
Any recommendations for a really stable ICS almost like factory stock other than PA and avatar? I tried to download the 4.0.4 tmobile stock rom but the download link is dead and when I odin the file from samfirmware or whatever it will cause it to freeze on boot. Stock ICS would be fine with me.

Flappjaxxx is an awesome dev that used to be here on XDA. He is no longer here which we don't need to discuss why that is. If you use google you can most likely find his roms fairly easily. I suggest yuo stick with a stock ATT based rom is you want solid performance with out all the bells and whistles. You can find some things here in the dev section or on flapps site if you happen to find that
