I got it with a refurbished 3d for my brother.. so now we have a spare
3D > iClone
ive tried to paint it, it wasnt receptive to it. parts looked great, but other parts were porous as hell so it looked rough. either way, the paint chips off very easily. ill probably have another go at it with a more aggressive prep job (i sanded it, but maybe not enough) but i think its just the material used for the battery door that isnt conducive to paint
If anyone fines a good source for some cheap doors I'm down too. I wanna get some customizations going but I hate using the OEM.

Yeah its a "soft touch" plastic and its flexible so billing back cover off will make it crack and chip if you use standard spray paint...

Has anyone replaced the little plastic flap that covers the USB port? Mine has finally broken off.
Is there anywhere to get a replacement online, and is there a resource for disassembly for the g1?
TIA
My device (Touch PRO) doesn't have it at all. I've seen that some devices have it and some don't. I think you can compare it to suspension housing of mountain bikes - some have some don't. It is just a question of dirt management style. While covers avoid the dirt getting in they also keep the trespassed dirt in there which also is not good. I don't think there is a good answer
I dont think he is looking for an opinion, I think he just flat out wants one. I could use one too, mine is broken as well.
As far as replacing, you can carefully insert it using a blunt pointed pin, I used some piano wire that was lying around when I did this to my last G1. Just "push" the ball into the housing. Alternately, you can use the plastic pry tools to lift that area, but it is a lot more work.

I'm not super concerned about dirt, and actually prefer not having it, but if i ever want to sell the device it would be nice to have it intact.

Exactly what I'm thinking! Mine broke recently and I actually like my phone without it better. However, as soon as my contract expires, I will want to sell my phone and get N1, so I think having all parts in place would be helpful, but I can't find it anywhere

Looking forward to it.
I'm in the UK and they ship from the US, so it might take a while. I've ordered it on 15th and got a shipping confirmation the next day, so hopefully some time next week I'll have them.
OK, got them... and I think it's a bit of a waste of money. They're too small and also when you need to for example plug-in the headphones, you have to figure out where to put those flaps not to loose them.
Anyway, you decide:
anyone else find the kickstand a little tough to prop up? the OG Evo was very easy but since this ones spring loaded and the slit is so narrow i can barely get it out. before i would just push down on the opposite end of the kickstand and it would jump out but, again, the spring loaded kick makes that obselete. anyone have any mechanical tips? lol sad, i know. but the question still stands

Grow out one of your nails??? Mine are pretty short, but I can easily wedge one under the very tip and pop it out. I like the way it feels....the OG got pretty loose after what seems like a short period of time.
I noticed the same thing, also almost feels like I'm going to scratch it.

You mad bro?
I never said i cant and dont still flip it out. The thing about making a thread in a Q&A forum is that it might be useful to other people for answers. The kickstand is noticeably thinner and more difficult to flip out than the OG, so I made this thread in case there were some people who felt it was too, not to whine about my problems (which isnt even a problem)

yeah i noticed its more difficult to flip out.
It is definitely not as easy to engage as the original. Luckily I have some fingernails which works great. I guess you could use a little bit of scotch tape to wrap around it and make a small tab to pull it out. Not too pretty but would definitely work!
I'd much prefer it be a little to difficult than be a little to easy to open. Could really get in the way if that happens.
I like the kickstand how it is. It gives me another use for the pinky nail I use to snort coke. #winning

So I replaced the glass part of my rezound yesterday, pretty much successfully.
But now that I have it all together again it is very easy to push the glass to the lcd and make it display those weird colors around the screen. You know what i mean if you have ever pushed too hard on your touch screen, or lcd.
I have been doing some research and I think I was supposed to put something between the glass and the lcd, not sure what though or were to get it...
If someone could let me know weather or not I was supposed to put something between the lcd and glass, and then were i could get it, I would be very appreciative.
Did you replace the old sticky tape that adheres the glass to the lcd panel?

Check amazon... And you CAN use your phone, you just might end up with some dead pixels or something probably best to not use it or avoid touching the screen as much as possible

Hello everyone,
I know this topic has been discussed probably a million times, but I could never find the answer I need. I recently dropped my htc evo 3d and the housing on it got bent. So I want to buy a white housing to replace my damaged housing. The problem is that I can't seem to find the white housing anywhere. Tried Ebay, Amazon, etc, but I can't find anything. The only website that seems to have it is htc repair parts, but they don't seem very legit to me. Here is the link if you want to check it out.
http://www.htcrepairparts.com/htc-evo-3d-c-129_728.html
So has anyone dealt with this website? Is it legit/reliable? Is there anywhere else I can get a white housing/white front bezel from?
thanks

yea its pretty expensive. The main part that I need is the front bezel because thats the most beaten up part. Painting it is a good idea. Do you know if I can just buy a black bezel and scratch the paint off to make it look like the white version? (it has a brushed aluminum look)
Yeah there is a thread where guys removed the paint and polished it up. Some left it brushed looking, Some even painted it red.

Unfortunately can't help you, but I think a white housing would look quite good.
You have to think though, would it be worth spending that much on it? Depends how long you plan to keep the phone I suppose. I just have skme regrets of the amount of moneu I spent on new housing for my HTC Kaiser and Touch Pro 2 in the past and sold the phones not too long after.

I plan on keeping the phone for about a year or so (if so, then it will be the longest time I kept a phone lol). I really like the features it has, and not everyone has it (almost everyone seems to have a galaxy nexus) so its kind of an exclusive phone i guess you can say. A white housing would actually allow me to sell the phone much faster and for a better price because there isnt a single GSM 3VO in white.

So I was bored last night and decided to take apart my OG. I took pictures of the process (Other than removing the back, sorry!). I mostly took pictures of the mainboard, along with closeups of all of the chips.
Bad news:
- The screen doesn't seem easy to replace at all, I didn't even take it out because there was no obvious way to get it out.
- The battery is stuck to the back of the screen with adhesive tape. I was able to remove it but I had to be very careful.

So is the back easy to replace then? Like the glass is attached to the part that is removed so if the glass breaks we just get another back? Why can't I find replacement backs anywhere...Ugh

Yeah. I wouldn't pay for the glass back at all if it costs nearly half the total value of the phone, lol.
Glad I bought my spare back when it was cheap. With my eBay bucks it was only $20.

the nexus 4 has two more extra connector pins in the back that our phone doesnt have so i guess it isnt a simple mod, also i dont think there is much space to work with.

The back was probably the hardest part to get off, but I was also being really careful not to crack the glass. If you follow the directions on the ifixit nexus 4 teardown you shouldn't have a problem. The plastic opening tools they sell were invaluable. I had never used them on anything prior to opening the OG, and they made the whole process so much easier.

Yea, the two connectors on the OG are for the NFC antenna that is on the inside of the back cover. I just ordered the parts to try and do the palm touchstone mod on the OG. So I'll post my results if I'm successful. I should only have to modify the the daughterboard (that I didn't take out in the pictures), so the risk is much lower than if I had to modify the mainboard.

I haven't seen the 13MP camera module connector, but I doubt it would work, primarily due to the difference in the shape of the modules. If you look at any OG version with the 13MP camera you can see that there is a bulge on the phone enclosure where the camera is.
