[q] effective battery calibration - Nook Color Themes and Apps

How do you calibrate your NookColor's battery effectively using the Battery Calibration app by NeMa? I've done it a couple of times and I'm quite unsure whether it did anything good on my battery... On my personal opinion, it just made it worse. Or maybe I did something wrong. It says there that it's recommended to wait for 100% before you calibrate. I did that. It also says that it's recommended to have the battery drain after calibrating, then charge to full without stop. I did that. But after all of I've done, I did not notice any difference, in fact I think it just got worse.
Did I do it right? Can anyone post a tutorial/link that can teach me how to do it right?

Why do you think that thing are worse now?
Is your battery reaching 1 or 2% before nook shuts down?
If yes, then its working fine.

I use battery left and try to get it to calibrate during regular usage sessions.

Battery draining overnight a bit too high? How's yours?

Hi,
I'm currently using JuicePlotter to see how my battery drains over time and this past night I think it drained more than it should (or maybe not).
For the ones who don't know, JuicePlotter runs in the background (of course) analyzing your battery, that too wastes battery juice of course. Thought, the app dev says on his website:
Perhaps the most important feature of JuicePlotter is that - unlike all similar apps and widgets - it's very battery friendly;

So I'm not sure if the problem lies on JuicePlotter or not, I'll have to test it one night without it...
This is how JuicePlotter displays it's graph:
The coloured bands along the graph show your screen brightness, radio usage, charging status and battery temperature. Just scroll around to find precise information and make sense of the different colours.

I went to bed at 4:10 with the battery at 97%. Around 13:00, it was at 89% and I didn't receive any calls/messages/mails/whatever during the night. The WiFi/3G was off all night along with the screen of course. The battery temperature remained the same too. I don't know if it makes a difference but I normally turn off Auto-Sync if the WiFi is off too.
Is it normal to lose 8% of battery juice in 9h in standby? I think it's a bit too much, but I don't know... Does the same happens to you too? What else cloud it be?
Interesting looking app. I've never noticed much of a lose overnight. Just installed the app, will fully charge and give you an update tomorrow.
Also how's the cell reception in your area? I've heard it can drain the battery a far bit if the reception is low.

I'll have to do more testing but I think it's the app's problem... Tonight, I went to bed with 83% and it was exactly the same when I woke up...
I fully charged mine last night and turned on JuicePlotter. Still showing 100% this morning. Both in the app and on the phones battery indicator (in the notification bar). Do you know of any other apps similar to this that could be run in tandem?
Weird, Battery Graph also does the same thing...
This needs more days of testing on my part...
My battery goes from 100% - 0% in about 16hrs... doesn't matter how much I use the phone or not.
I have BatteryGraph but the results don't really mean anything to me as it just shows battery life vs time on a scale.
I'll try JuicePlotter to see if I can pin down exactly what's causing my terrible battery life.
I have a feeling it's running at full speed even when in standby but I'm not sure how to check if this is the case. Any ideas?
EDIT: Looking at BatteryGraph I've lost 15% in around 1hr... nothing unusual going on with my phone that I know about... just standard stuff running in the background. Perhaps the battery itself is simply past it's best.

Wow that is terrible, try apps like Taskpanel and when you add programs to your auto kill list the program kills the programs as long as they are running in the background when the screen is off, however if you are on lets say your browser and you don't go to your homescreen the screen goes off into stand by it will not kill the app. Also try draining your battery to the point it shuts down by itself, plug it in let it charge for a bit, boot into recovery wipe battery stats start up the phone or leave it off (your choice) and let it charge fully. Are you using setcpu or OC Widget or anything? If you are using SetCPU make a profile for when screen is off and make it underclocked like 264 Mhz to 480Mhz, or with OC Widget tick the 'use different screen frequencies' (don't remember what it is called since I don't use it) and do the same; I like SetCPU better because when you turn the screen on it switches profile faster where as OC Widget takes its time however with SetCPU do not use the widget it will cause Sense to FC and I'm not sure about Vanilla.
Hope this makes sense since all my ideas are said at once.

The way I've learned to recalibrate the battery is to let it go down to 5%, boot phone into recovery and wipe batterystats, then power off the phone. Let the phone charge until the green led is on without turning it on. Then turn on and use the phone as usual. Learned it over at modaco. Worked as a charm, and batterytime was improved. I have personally experienced strange batterybehaviour after periods with flashing a lot of roms.

Here.
That's interesting...
Cause I've been playing with ROMs latetly, creating my own, testing hacks and stuff... And most of the time the phone is plugged and the battery is charged, during the flashing process it's using the battery and then it charges again. I also have to leave from time to time and when I get back I continue my stuff, meaning I'm charging the battery at high levels.
I'll have to try that calibrate method...
For now, for the past 2 nights, with JuicePlotter off, I've noticed the battery level did not change at all during the night. Tonight I'm going to try one more time with JuicePlotter on...

Wiped battery stats at 5% last night, let the phone die and then charged whislt off until green light came on. Been keeping an eye on it all day and there has been a noticable improvement.
The phone came off charge at around 2am (so around 12hrs ago) and it has only lost 20%, which is a lot better than I was getting before.
It was probably just due to me messing about with some many ROMs and update zips lately as I tend not to have too much crap running in the background (I use OSMonitor).
I will look into setCPU but I remember trying it before with VR12 and it ended up causing some weird problems meaning I needed to do a full wipe to get everything working again.
Thanks for the help
This night, with JuicePlotter on, I only lost 1%, seems reasonable now... I don't know why that one time I lost 8% during the night. Maybe an isolated case? Something was probably running when it shouldn't, I just don't know what.

Inaccurate battery% ALWAYS

Regardless of any calibration method i try, i can never get an accurate battery reading. (Before i continue, ill point out that every app ive used to check my battery health has said "good")
Ive tried calibrating with/without the calibration app. Ive tried just deleting the batterystats via rootexplorer. ive tried calibrating before/after cycling. nothing seems to work.
the reason i know its not working, is because i will calibrate/cycle. lets say ill start a day with 100%. ill unplug my phone, leave for work, and use my phone moderately to feel out the battery drain. then at some point, ill plug it into my charger at work......just now, for example, after three hours of use my phone went from 100%-71%....i went to charge it, and once i plugged it in my percentage display changed from 71% to 63%!!! my percentage will constantly jump up and down throughout the day when i plug/unplug my phone.
anyone else experience this?
PS - its not ROM or kernel, its been happening to me for the last 2-3 months...ive flashed several roms/kernels in that timespan, and have ODINed at least once.
PPS - Ill also add that when i unplug my phone to start my day (after its been charging all night), it will stay at 100% for about 30-45min, at which point it will then start draining on an average of 1%/10min. i feel this may have something to do with it.....does it have something to do with me calibrating at too high of a voltage??
Well as for your inaccurate battery readings, i would suggest that you to odin back to stock and. Leave the phone to charge for 4hours(the time my phone takes to charge from 0-100%)then use the battery calibration app or wipe battery stats via cwm. And as for the draining it might be corrected after you calibrate it.
I know this coz I have experienced this in the past and i'd lose around 1% every 20-25mins now.

You said you've ODIN'd like once.... dude, if you aren't going to be cool with suggestions, esp the most obvious ones, not sure what it is you expect from us.

the best way to calibrate ur phone and its worked perfect for me. Charge it to 100% and then unplug it and as soon as unplug it go to sgs tools and run apply script and inside apply script there is delete battery stats. Click on that and it will take less then 10 sec and ur battery will be running great. Now this works great on my phone i hope it works on urs nicely.
At your PPS: This is completely normal and expected battery behaviour. It SHOULD happen. Here is why

Please read this article fully to understand why it happens and why it SHOULD happen. As for your plug/unplug deviations...I have seen those but it has rarely been more than 2-3% difference which is around the normal range. It sounds like a bad calibration issue to me but then again I can't be sure, especially if you said you have done a calibration correctly. You can try a new battery like the poster above me suggests.

So if i clearly state in the OP that it was happening to me before and after ive ODINed, and someone says you should ODIN...thats not a lazy suggestion?
or if someone says to try calibrating, when I stated several times in the OP that ive tried multiple calibration methods...thats not a lazy suggestion?
What i expect is if ive pointed out that ive already taken troubleshooting steps, then dont suggest those troubleshooting steps. no one is forcing a response, so if you dont know, simply dont answer. dont just read the title, skim the post, and give programmed suggestions.
theres absolutely nothing wrong with trying to seek out answers other than the conventional ones. ODIN and reflash are the laziest responses......granted, they will often fix problems, but there may be other ways to solve certain issues.
The goal of my OP was to see if anyone else had experienced it, and if someone responded affirmatively, i would ask them about their calibration methods and we could brainstorm. I would much rather seek out problem-solving knowledge before resorting to ODIN/reflash/new battery/new device...which teach nothing.

This is typically the method i use. i usually let it charge for an hour or so beyond when it reaches 100%, just to ensure i have a full charge. this has not worked for me. i also take it a step further and let my phone discharge all the way until it dies, let it charge overnight when powered off, then ill wipe the battery stats first thing when i wake up.

this was an extremely informative read. it doesnt shed light on all of my problems...but it definitely explains the longer battery life upon unplugging in the morning. my only question is how am i getting that extra juice when im not actually "bump charging"...i just plug it in when i go to bed, and unplug it when i wake up.....maybe my phone doesnt stop sucking in a charge the moment it hits 100%?
i agree with what he says about not paying too much attention to your battery.....but when its bouncing up and down by 20% increments, thats cause for concern haha. im going to calibrate one more time tonight, and i i get similar results i will swap batteries with another vibrant user.
do you guys suggest deep cycling, before or after wiping battery stats? (or should i just wipe stats at a full charge, and not deep cycle at all) >>> there seems to be different opinions on deep cycling throughout XDA
I have had a similar issue. After flashing Roms, plyugging and unplugging it was jumping by a good 10-15%. This turned out to be a simple bad calibration. Normal jumping should be up to 2%, more than that usually indicates bad calibration. Granted, normally nowdays, mine does not jump at all.
I recommend cycling it fully empty. That means, go ahead and drain to 0. Then let it shut off. Then turn it on again. Keep turning it on till it STOPs being able to turn on. Then charge it completely. Don't charge overnight as that will charge to 90-95% as the article suggested. Charge it while you're awake so you see when it hits 100%. It's even preffered if you charged it while the phone is off. After it hits 100%, give it another hour on the charger. You can even bump charge to ensure it hits full charge. To bump charge, after it's full, disconnect and reconnect the charger every 20 minutes for that last hour you're charging. Then unplug it, boot into recovery using the 3 buttons. Wipe the battery stats from there. Boot normally into your ROM. See if it is still jumping by 20%. Worst case scenario should be a 5% jump. Let us know what happens.
^ See, there is my confusion... there is a great example of how to calibrate, but the OP seems to get in a tiffy for offering up a suggestion he has done (calibrating). I'd also be cautious about the bump charging as that will really hurt the battery. I'm not one to try and get something for free, but why not just get a new battery?

I support the new battery notion too. It's FREE.
Drain your phone til its dead.... charge it up full.... run a battery calibration app on the market and let it die fully again then charge to 100 percent one last time... good to go!
You might even try using a differnet battery

Topshelf, I have run into these problems, There are a couple of things that cause the battery to be wonky.
1st Samsung has the battery set not to 100% but actually less (95-98%) so when it is charged and reads 100% as soon as you unplug you get a immediate reading of 95-98% (nice huh?)
The dev/mods, and others have tried to rectify this. No one has found an exact fix for this. On thing I have found that does help is to charge to 100% then unplug and then plug into the computer and recharge back to 100% (the lower milliamp off the computer seems to allow you to get to a higher percentage). Then calibrate. Now when you do that the battery calibration/battery widget/and phone All will read more close (for me +/-3%). This is one of the issues you raised.
The other is the battery drain, with some of the custom roms the gallery seems to one of the culprits, mms sometimes stays on with others and some others that are in TSR but instead of being asleep they are taking resources.
I have used systems panel to trouble shoot and that has helped me. I think you may want to ask Explodingboy70, Roman or whitehawkx, they know more on this and maybe can help.
Hope you get it solved......... stay with it you will........... I did.........

3200mah battery works great, however...

... I just have some things I'd like a little assistance with if possible.
1. Because the battery has over double the capacity of the stock battery, I wasn't expecting even close to sensible battery reports from Android. However, I wasn't expecting it to last for a long time, drain at a rational rate, and then halt at 1% for 6 or so hours. I have no way of predicting how much time I have left when I reach that 1% mark, and it literally just shuts off the phone without warning, as if I just unplugged the battery. Is there any way to adjust anything so that It properly reports the battery charge value from 100-1%?
2. I have no idea how long to charge this phone. Obviously the stats of the stock battery are hardcoded into the OS; after the phone shuts off, I'll put it on to charge, it will enter the charge-only-mode (which is weird to me in itself, thought the custom bootstrap overwrote this?), and it will only take a couple hours to reach 100%. This is about how long it took for me to charge the stock battery. Anyway to have the phone properly display the current charge while in its charge only state? I'm afraid of not properly cycling the battery if I don't charge it long enough, or even worse, damaging the battery by charging too long. After it hits 100%, assuming I am correct in that it still needs to charge after reaching that mark, will the phone even accept more power from the charger? As silly as it might sound, that sorta made sense to me. If the phone is incorrectly measuring the battery at that point, shouldn't it cease to charge after reaching what it thinks/I] is a proper 100%?
3. If there is no way to fix the issue in #1, I read somewhere you can measure the voltage of a battery and know when the phone is fully charged or about to die based on that voltage? At least I think it was voltage.
I've calibrated, don't bother asking. That has never worked, even on stock; I'm convinced its a myth, but that's a discussion for another thread.
By the way, Eclipse ROM's battery life sucks. Anyone stating otherwise is misinformed. The best battery life I ever experienced was on stock 2.2, followed very closely by Liberty 3 ROM. I have no idea why Eclipse has such terrible battery drain, though I would be interested if anyone knows. I've gone through two phones, their respective batteries, and now my third battery, the monstrosity that is the 3200mah, so please don't bother trying to convince me that Eclipse has better battery than some alternatives. It sucks. I'll be downgrading back to 2.3.4 and flashing Liberty right after I finish writing this.
Thanks to anyone who can help!
Also, I've been following the Droid X2 bootloader status for like 6 months. Realistically, how close are we to being able to flash a new kernel? An I'm pretty sure we can't crack to bootloader anyways. I remember calculating the possible combinations of keys Motorola could have used; it was a massive number. In that case, how would hijacking the boot process allow us to use Cyanogen? If we can't crack the bootloader and then flash the CM kernel, wouldn't it just be a glorified version of Eclipse? I don't even like Eclipse. Lawl.
I'm done typing. My sexy computer comes tomorrow; crossfire 6990's here I come! Need to get to sleep so I can all-night-hardcore-no-life play BF3 with Shibby tomorrow. I hope someone on these forums knows who that is.
You need to boot into clockwork recovery. Go to advanced and hit clear battery stats. after that fully charge and discharge your battery 4 times and that should fix you up.

I have the same battery that you do with this phone, although I don't use the phone anymore.
You can NOT make Android read the battery correctly. You are in the dark.
Calibrating will NOT, as you've already found out, fix battery reporting.
I used to gauge when it was going to die by looking at mV left. Around 3500mV is when it would die. Get Battery Indicator from market to find out mV.
Oh, and: 4.2V = 4200mV etc

I figured as much. For a multi-billion dollar investment, you would think Google and its partners wouldn't overlook something so silly, not to mention locking our ****ing bootloader.
Anywho, I'll try out that app. Is 4.2V a full charge for the 3200?
Thanks!
This is a known issue with the droids. Some have had success with the batteryleft widget which can learn the full capacity of the battery.
Also not googles fault. This one is only Motorola's issue.

Battery Life

Hey guys,
How much battery life do you get on your X2?
I just installed CM7 and I'm down to 60% after 5 hours of LOW use :/. Could I need a new battery?
Are you doing anything with the settings of the CPU, such as setting minimum frequency, keeping both CPUs online at all time (this might be set via tweaking scripts)?
In fact, ARE you using any type of tweaking scripts (V6 Turbocharger, speedy, etc)?
I don't use any of them and my battery life is pretty good. I also have an extended battery as well, so that helps.
Let the ROM settle in. After two days you should get a better picture of what it's like. Don't forget to do a battery calibration. I haven't even done that yet and have been lucky enough to have great battery longevity. Can also look into managers like Juice Defender. There's also another app I have used in the past that can limit when an app can run. Like limit Facebook from always running in the background and syncing for data. Ithink it'd LGE or LBE security?
Sent from my MB870 using Tapatalk
Are you using the beta and not the alpha? The alpha has a problem with running the CPU at a high percentage when it shouldn't, which cause the battery to suck.
It is possible that you may need a new battery, but more likely is that the X2 simply has notoriously bad battery life. There are, however, things you can try to help. Go to your settings app, scroll down and click on "applications", and from there, open "running processes". Check out some of the processes. There may not be any, and if you see processes running for games or apps you haven't used in the last few minutes, it may mean that they are constantly running in the background. In that case, you may want to consider uninstalling. Try to use wifi over 3g wherever available. Screen brightness is a major battery killer, and as such, may want to keep it on the lowest setting; I've found it to be the most noticeable improvent in battery life. People are going to tell you to calibrate your battery, but I've done that many times on 2 X2s, never seen a difference. My friends and I agree its just a myth, but there's no reason not to try.
Honestly I don't know squat about batteries, but I remember hearing that the voltage of our batteries is 4.2 volts. If that's a measure of capacity like I think, you can try the app "battery left", which I believe has a voltage meter. If its less than that, maybe you should consider a replacement. Please don't take my word on this though, I can't confirm any of this to be true lol. Maybe someone else can offer their opinion on battery health.
This whole post probably seems like a big collection of thoughts. I'm tokin' right now, took me like 20 minutes to type this.
Hope I could help
To add to theredvendetta's comment, if you have your email set to check for messages, it can really have an effect on your battery. If you set it to never check, I'll bet you will see a difference.

I am using the Beta.
@theredvendetta: I installed the Battery Left widget, and when I go into details it's saying some interesting things.
I'm at 50% battery right now. For one, its saying my battery is at 3787 mV. 3.8 volts I would say considerably lower then the 4.3 it should be. My battery is only ~6 months old, but, for 4 of those months it sat unused, uncharged, and in my hot/cold car. I've only run it down a bit and charged it up 4 or 5 times this week since then.
It is reporting "battery health" as good, but idk.
Under "Accuracy" it's saying the charge reading is "Inaccurate" and the bar is totally red, indicating that the estimation of charge is very inaccurate.
Where can I calibrate the battery? I'll look around under Settings for now. EDIT: It's likely I was only around 60% charged or so when I installed the rom.
And as for background tasks, aside from the default stuff and my few widgets (not a heavy user of those) there's just Facebook+Words with Friends, Songbird, GO Keyboard. Not too terrible, I think.

And as for background tasks, aside from the default stuff and my few widgets (not a heavy user of those) there's just Facebook+Words with Friends, Songbird, GO Keyboard. Not too terrible, I think.

I probably should have said this to begin with, but when I was talking about the voltage, I meant 4.2 was the charge when at full charge. I can see I worded my original statement poorly, apologies. Try charging up to full, and then check battery left.
When it says "innacurate", its reffering to the battery percentage reading its giving you. When you have cycled the battery once or twice, it will tell you it is "accurate", and the bar Williams turn green. You may notice parts of the bar turn green while first using the app; this means its picking up readings for the percentage of battery you're on at the time. I mean if you're on 50%, it will soon turn green halfway through the bar. After you have completely cycled the battery once or twice, it will stay green and accurate until you reset it or uninstall.
To calibrate the battery, you have to enter Android recovery. I can't remember 100%, but I believe that you hold the up volume button while booting up the phone. It may be down, you can try both. Hold it until you see text pop up that I think says "fastboot". When you see this, let go of the volume button, and now hit volume down until you see text that says "android recovery". If you accidently cycle past it, keep clicking volume down, as the list loops. When you stop on android recovery, press the up volume key. After a few seconds you will see a new screen with an exclamation mark. Press the up and down keys at the same time. A list of options will now appear. Don't use any of them unless you know what you are doing. There should be an option called advanced or something similar. Cycle to it by using the volume keys, and hit the power button to select it. There will be an option to calibrate you battery in there. Itbwill take a few seconds, and after that, return to the main menu and reboot the phone.
Good lord that took me ages to type. There's no hope with dope kids.
I feel like a broken record, but again, battery calibration does not do anything. If there's a chance the meter is off, just charge until your battery's voltage levels off and use the battery fully before charging again.

I agree with you. He asked and I answered. 'Sides, there's no harm in trying it, as there are no negative aspects to it.
Im running cm7 and the only mod im running is the 8 touch points. I do have my screen set to the most dim setting thoough. My phone gets unplugged at 5:30 in the morning though out the day I'll talk send some text might play a few games and usually be on the internet about a hour or so. When I get off at 7pm my battery is usually anywhere from 75% to 69%. A few times it has gone 18 hours and only been down to 52%. Give it some time, CM7 has by far the best battery life that Ive seen for this phone.
Yeah, after clearing the davlic cache and going through a few charge cycles, it seems to of improve greatly.
I'm running CM7 and my phone has been unplugged for 23.5 hours with medium usage including 72 minutes total voice call time and I'm currently sitting at 23%, hence my signature lol and this is a stock battery.
SBF'd from my tasty X2 MAXX
give it a few days but cycle it hard, like don't plug it in until you're below 5%. I have the BH6X (1850mAh vs. 1600mAh) so it's not much of a jump in capacity... your voltage should start out right around 4.2v and drop to about 3.5 when it's close to dead. My phone sucks at telling me how much battery is left, it always has, I typically run this thing dead every day, but some days I'll have upwards of 40% left (voltage is still above 3.8v)
I honestly don't even pay attention to the percentage 'cause I can watch an entire episode of beavis and butthead in HD with the brightness all the way up using software rendering (more power consumption) when I'm below 10% and it won't shut off on me.
it takes me almost a solid two days to kill my battery and I've been on CM7 Beta for a week as of yesterday. at first my battery life was absolute crap, but it has improved... every time you wipe the dalvik it'll take a solid 2-3 days to rebuild it. that uses much more power.
I am prepping for CM7 now. With my mostly stock X2 using Juice Defender I am getting about 1.5 days between charges. When I charge I am about 20% or less on the battery and this is with mostly lite usage. I expect once I make the switch it could take up to a week for everything to level out as it will have to synchronize many things because it will be like having a new phone. When my X2 was new it took about a week to settle in and stop the random crashes. That was also about the time the battery improved from about 1 day between charges. I will write back in a week or two once I have my phone switched and stable.
I used juice defender for awhile but I realized I was really only using it to control data. I just keep a data toggle in the notifications bar. It's really not that much of a hassle to switch it off and it reconnects fast enough. Saves quite a bit of battery power. When I was doing that with my extended battery on liberty I could get about three days.
I am actually impressed with my x2's batt life (although it is a brand new batter when I got the phone a few months ago). I used to have the HTC Desire, and it wasn't the greatest with battery life. My bone stock x2 didn't have the greatest batt life when I first got it, and still wasn't a whole lot better with cm7 installed. But now that I have installed miui on it, and screen brightness is about 70% constant, with wifi ALWAYS enabled. I am going on almost 24 hours now (maybe more??) and I am at 57% with little usage. I've used the phone maybe 2 times today for a total of about 10 minutes talk time, I have no 3g/data, other then wifi when I am at home, so I'm sure that has alot to do with it.
Another tip, that probably everyone already knows, and some people say it doesn't matter, but it seems to for me. ONLY charge your phone when it is less than 10% left, and then make sure it is charged for at least 6-8 hours before you unplug it. I know they say the newer batteries are not effected by this but my wife had the HTC Hero (worst android phone ever IMO), but she would charge it every chance she got, even if it was at 80%. Now, the phone is lucky to hold a charge for 5-6 hours with NO USAGE at all (except wifi always turned on). Granted the phone is older than dirt, and so is the battery, but still. My desire still holds a decent charge considering how old it is. I can get maybe 14-18 hours with no use on it (or very little use) with wifi always on (granted, the phone is bone dead after this time though).
I just altered the cm7 performance settings... back to normal. This combined with a custom juice defender ultimate profile has easily tripled my battery life..

Yeah I've seen nothing come from battery calibration. I have problems with my meter some days draining really quick and some days just normal. If it's bothering my I'll do a reset and that will usually sync it up. I'll try the charged voltage level off and empty thing and see if that helps.
Thanks.

battery caliberation

hi
is it required to battery caliberate after flashing new rom?
and when ever i reboot my system either battery jumps from 10% to 30 or more
or becomes less than 10%..
if i should then which app should i use?
any guidnace
plz
TY
No such thing. After you flash a new rom, charge the phone to 100%, turn it off, remove the battery for 30 seconds, replace the battery, turn phone on, enjoy.
Anyone selling you the whole calibration thing is selling you voodoo.
hi
thanks for your reply
plz suggest me best battery app with battery saving feature , suggestion on what we can do with remaining battery , expected full time charge , complete graph or battery usage history by apps?
paid or free , tell me best one
thank you
There's lots of battery apps on Google Play, there's no such thing as the best one, go have a look under the Tools section in Apps (you'll also find some under productivity). Stay away from apps like Juice Defender that claim to save you battery by doing things automatically which you can do yourself in two seconds, these have been proven time & again on XDA to use more juice than they save.
ivl try battery monitor
thank you
No probs ;-)

Wouldn't that procedure above be considered calibrating the battery? LOL. J/K. Couldn't resist .

actually it cannot. this way you only help the system in your phone recognize full capacity of battery (which is not even full because not one battery works at it's full capacity - but it's fullest you will get at this point of your battery life). when it's about calibrating - listen to MistahBungle - it's all voodoo. you cannot calibrate li-ion battery unless you kill it and then revive. by killing it I don't mean depleting it in your phone, because even when phone shows the battery is fully depleted it's really not - there is still some juice in it. you'd have to use e.g. special charger which can drawn juice out of battery and make it really empty. only then your battery is dead and useless. you may revive it by applying cca. 5V but actually it not always works. so you cannot calibrate your battery in home environment.
what you can do is "re-calibrating" so called fuel gauge (description under links given below) and you may also help your system recognize the real state of your battery charge. sometimes it happens that systems readings are wrong and battery is on 85% but system is reading it as 50 or 100%. to help it read battery chip correctly you do the thing MistahBungle so helpfully described. sometimes you even don't have to do it but wait 2-3 charging cycles and system will adjust it's reading itself. by charging cycles I mean charging like from 20-100%. why not from 0%? because even if it's not a real depletion state, li-ion batteries doesn't like the state of being discharged too much.

and is there any way to stop auto startups of apps?i have around 200apps and most of them i use around once a day or not even once
i use android assistant to manage startup but it does on boot and after some time if i check running apps most of apps will be there running
is there any app to block it running automatically? not just at startup ? full control like anything?
thank you
actually I cannot help with that. I don't use such a software and really don't believe in it. but, the fact is that I do not use so many apps. other fact is that surely there is some useful software that could help you with that task, i just do not use one and personally I'm not interested in it. I know that perhaps the best method is to freeze them with titanium but if you use these apps from time to time then it would become complicated and not worth the effort.
still I have few questions:
why would you like to stop them from working? do they drain your battery? if so then check your logs with bbs and find out which ones are draining, try to change their setting or get rid of them, or at least close only these ones. long time ago I was fighting with some apps that I do not use often and they start themselves from time to time. I didn't want to get rid of them, so before every night I was killing them one-by-one from applications menu (actually most of them didn't wake up until I ran them myself). finally, after many tests I got to the point that it doesn't make any difference. apps I was killing, even if running, didn't use any recourses, didn't produce wakelocks, they were just using some RAM. and if it is the reason of your concern then do not be worried - they may use as much RAM as they want - android will free RAM when it will need it.
now I do not kill any apps and by night I lose 0-2% of battery which is my only concern - what should we care more? CPU, RAM - let it work as long as it doesn't stop us from enjoying our phone and make a usage of it uncomfortable.
and if you're worried about packet data then you may limit it for each app using system menu in ICS.

Thanks dude. I also have the similar problem. I have spent months on it without any improvement. Now I'm quite frustrated and not optimistic on the solution you have provided towards my issue, but your decription gives me a lot of clue.
But my problem is even more tricky, I would like to share it here so see if anyone have met it before, or if I need to start a new thread to deal with it:
The problem can be generally decribed as below:
1. When the battery is fully charged, unplug and consume the juice until the level reach around 30%, then the phone is shut down automatically; after I plugin the power and restart the phone, the battery level is displayed as 0%;
2. After charging for a while from 0% , restart the phone and you will see the battery level directly goes back to 50%, but still with very low voltage;
3. Changing with a new battery won't solve the issue -- though the new battery itself may also have problem(not sure if it is genuine), but I don't think a fake battery and an old battery should behave almost the same, so I don't think it is the battery's problem; criticize if I'm wrong
4. Re-flashing a new rom won't solve the issue either. I have tried different CM9 nightlies and now I'm using CM10 nightlies, none of them is immune to the problem;
5. Clear the battery state won't solve the problem. It is hard to say whether it improves the situation at least a tiny bit. I mean it may work somehow, e.g. My phone used to be shut down at 50% battery level and now it can last to 36%. But it never totally solve the problem once and for all, so I still don't trust this caliberation thing may work.
I hope I have clearly stated my issue. I'm so at the end of my patience, this little bastard have been always torturing me You guys are the last I can count on I really hope I came here earlier so as not to have wasted so much time.
