hi,
if you upgrade to 2.3.4, would you please share your experience about atrix heating with this version?

I have not noticed any difference myself.

For me, when I first flashed 2.3.4, it got warmer faster and longer than before but I gradually either got used to it or it's back to normal.
samcripp mentioned its warmer cause gb is better using dual core capabailities... but who knows.

I notice mine gets hot when I play games. Other than that, my office runs pretty cool.

I have noticed that since I have upgraded to the stock 2.3.4 ROM my phones doesn't nearly overheat as much. Though I don't have a statistical data to prove this, however perception is reality.

I was running greyblur before, and to me this seems to be much hotter. I am also getting some serious battery drain issues.

I am still at 32C idle, 38-40C on load, same as before on battery. CPU temps are the same also. After battery stats wipe twice and calibration twice my battery life is slightly better than before with no battery jumping.

Same here...from greyblur too...i have battery only for 5-6 hrs, and the bottom of atrix heats a lot, but battery temp doesn't rise significantly

To the best of my knowledge, ICS will be the first FW to better use dual core capabilities, and that GB is more of a stabilized Froyo.
Also the 2.3.4 experience is still beta, so the final version could still be better...

Anybody NOT having battery jump issues on Gingerbread

Wondering if some people are not affected by battery jumping issues (defined as battery % available is higher after the reboot compared to before reboot).
As far as I can tell I'm not. Seems like a normal, steady decline with regular usage.

You are on Gingerbread, right? Can you reboot your phone and see if you have % continue where it left off.
I'm having battery issues as well. It jumps drastically after reboot. I'm on HKTW and I was wondering if the official gingerbread would fix this but I wasn't gonna waste my time if the battery issue still remained

It affects all Gingerbread versions from what I have read so far, so that's why I'm asking if somebody on Gingerbread is NOT having issue to find out what they did or do differently from rest of us not to have this issue. My battery just jumped after reboot from 26% to 89% available.
I'm on Kens GB 4.5.91 and battery works fine. I did use Battery Calibrate after install. I am actually getting better battery life too.

So you if you reboot your phone your new battery reading is continues from where you left off? I did all battery calibration things and none helped.

Ok. Had 50% before booting and now 80% after.
I've only rebooted once since jumping to stock gb. Then, I think I was somewhere around 60% at first then 90% after boot. I originally chalked that up to the battery calibrating itself as the battery was crappy after the upgrade and got better after the reboot. I'll keep a closer eye on it from reboot to reboot.

Well I take back what I previously stated. I guess I am having battery issues. I just rebooted and battery monitor jumped 14% after reboot however it showed a decrease in the Mv available (4039 to 3998). I was much happier thinking I had working phone lol

[Q] UnNamed battery vs ICScrewed battery

does anyone know how the battery life of the UnNamed ROM compare to the ICScrewed ROM battery life?
really? just try it yourself
ICScrewed 1.4.2 awosome bat life! Can't speak for UnNamed haven't tried it yet. Been on ICScrewed since I got the phone.
Sent from my Dual Core Monster via xda premium app
They should be about the same, unless ICScrewD leaves the SNS widgets/services in. If it does you can remove them.
ICScrewD might be slightly better due to being based on an I9100 firmware release, but it's going to be a tiny difference if at all. I9100 firmwares seemed to have lower idle drain than UCKH7, but UCKK6 might be improved in that regard.
Just try them both - the differences in battery life will be negligible if anything.
Unnamed rocks
note this is a old image i took a while back usually i get similar to the above screen shot with battery life

Geez, is that with heavy use? I can only get about ~15 hours before I'm around 25%. I'm running Entropy and UnNamed.
honestly that was from weeks ago i dont remember, just found my screen shot, i normally get around 16-17 then i charge soooo
My best is 4 days on Unnamed with light usage (some calls, text messages, gmail, web browsing, comic reading). Haven't tried the other one.

I have used both and think they are both very good. I believe I may have had slightly better life on UnNamed but not by much at all. I personally run ICScrewD because I feel it is a little smoother and has a better layout.

[Q] How prevalent are the battery/power issues w/ the new kernel?

I'm thinking about flashing on the the roms based on the latest leak. Just wanted to know if everyone was having reduced battery life from it or just a select few?
I have had better battery since the upgrade.

Mines been about the same since the leak was installed, no major changes.
I am running the leaked ICS RUU from last month and my battery life is a lot better than when I was on Gingerbread.
3g enabled: same. 4g: better

Better battery for me. You should have done a poll
Sent from my rooted HRC Rezound
My battery life is better. But it will vary based on a lot of factors. I did somewhere around 30 firmware installs for other people. About 20 - 24 of those users have kept up with me. 2 are having really bad battery life and one more is poor but jot terrible, the really bad ones are both heavy users. They have high temp issues especially when downloading and streaming. Because I can't remotely look over their settings like I could on a computer, I can only deal with it further with some back and fourth trial and error while on gtalk. I know some is kernel related, as to why they have the heat and battery problems and others don't, I havent nailed it down.

High kernel usage

Loving the DNA so far but I've noticed my kernel usage has been high. I don't think It's almost never been below 30%, at one point it was at 50%. From my understanding this is not normal and is creating bad battery drain. If anyone has any suggestions or advice it would be appreciated. Maybe I should try a different kernel? Here's some screenshots from a few minutes ago.

You can try a different kernel there are two different ones in this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1967 . However, the kernel is (are) the piece(s) of software that basically runs everything, so having the most battery usage out of the kernel is to be expected. The kernels on the form I gave may have better battery usage for multiple reasons (optimized resource usage, bloat removed, etc.) but it will (probably) still be the biggest battery eater.

Thanks. I was kinda thinking that. It makes sense that the kernel will be higher in percentage the less the screen is used and vice versa. Just seemed like my battery drain was excessive and since the kernel usage percentage was the highest I assumed that it was the problem. I'll give a different kernel a go and see what happens. Thanks again.

Sure thing, but don't expect much more battery life. With a quad core processor, two gigabytes of RAM, a 1080p screen, and an active 4G radio this monster draws a lot of power.

I hear ya. Just seems like I'm getting a lot less battery than what I've seen other people claim they get, especially in deep sleep but oh well. And yes, this thing is a monster lol. Best phone I've had yet.

I wondered the same. Both kernal usage and android system are many times higher than my last HTC.

This phone sucks!!!

Is it just me or does this phone completely suck. Dont get me wrong I love android and Samsung. But this phones battery is terrible o have to charge twice a day and as soon as I play any game it heats up and drains all the battery. And everything is slow and laggy. I know its an older phone but this is rediculous. I am running stock att jelly bean

The phone is actually pretty good, especially for its age...
You really need to ditch the stock ROM and try something like Cooked. It will perform better AND have better battery life to boot. There will be nothing laggy about it
Also, keep in mind that playing games will drain the battery quickly on any phone regardless of the ROM.

This.
And, a few people have even stated they still like their SII better than their SIII or SIV.
Check out this battery life. This is on SHOstock3 with lite usage.
I still don't get the fuss about battery life when there are removable batteries ...
Definitely not normal to not last a whole day unless that battery is old. Either case, get some new batteries.

True. This is very light use. No gaming. Not a lot of screen time even. But it illustrates that the kind of problem that you described is due to firmware, and not the phone. There is a thread in this forum titled Known identified battery drainers that can help you understand how to correct battery issues. Part of the problem can be the rom, or more specifically the kernel, but there are other possible issues to consider. You can configure your phone to get very good battery life, even with heavy usage.
