Ice cream sense - HTC EVO 3D

Will the EVO 3d be updated to ice cream and will it have sense on it?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App

Most likely yes and yes, but I doubt we get a new sense, just like the og EVO will get stuck with our current sense but as long as we get the new features I'm ok with it and hopefully ice cream support of qHD displays

LOL I want Sense to support the qHD display, Gingerbread itself seems to handle it well AFAIK. I do hope ICS supports all Dual-core chipsets & graphics acceleration.

I thought ICS was specifically built to be the Dual core chipset OS? did I miss something?

Dual core?

What exactly does the 2 cores do in terms of performance? Where should I be seeing improvements? I came from a cm7 og EVO that's was pretty damn quick. I love this phone and the battery life is suprisingly wonderful. I understand this is all stock without any kernel mods but it still should be one powerful device

well you could start by putting sense 3.0 on your OG evo and running it for a while and then turn on your BMF EVO 3D and you'll see the difference.
It runs separate apps on each core, soif you do a benchmark the scores won't show up that well, but does use both do you have osmonitor it should show both cores.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think 2.3.3 supports dual-core, at least from what I've read. Dual-core support came out for Honeycomb, and most likely Ice Cream Sandwich, but I don't think Gingerbread supports it.

Correct.

Well as HTCRALEIGHFAN said above me, Ice Cream Sandwich (2.4) will most likely support the dual-core hardware in our beasts. I mean don't get me wrong I'm not some shmuck, my 3VO flies, I'm just imagining what monster it'll become once both cores are operating.
Could app force closing be due to the dual cores? Not all but a few apps can't play on my 3VO but could on my og EVO.

Both cores ARE operating....otherwise it would run like an overclocked Evo.
And I seriously doubt Ice Cream Sandwich will be a step down in version number from Honeycomb. Some have suggested it will be 4.0, which seems likely, but definitely NOT '2.4'

The Motorola Atrix is dual core with Froyo. A Gingerbread leak recently posted as well.
Sure the hardware could be dual core or quad core for that matter but if the operating system doesn't support it its useless. I'm not %100 sure if anything other than Honeycomb support it but it seems that way from what I've read around.

I'll check later, but I'm near positive the Atrix Froyo kernel supports dual cores.
EDIT: Nope, you are right, I am dumb
Probably not optimized for dual core but I'm sure ur uses the chip set a little lol

Agreed. Although I'm sure one core complements the other... I think the full power is yet to be unleashed. With Android, everything seems to start small... Then hidden potential is unleashed later... i.e. root.

I agree that when the ICS update comes, it will probably take full advantage of the hardware, but its not like the dual core processor is useless right now. HTC wouldn't have put it in their devices to be released already if the damn things only ran on a single core. They would've been better off releasing this phone with a 2+gHz single core processor if that was the case. Anybody that has played with the EVO, had it rooted, overclocked, etc. can tell you that this phone is way faster than the EVO ever was at its maximum potential. That would not be true if the 3D only ran on one core.
The dual core processing works. This is not an OS feature, but a kernel feature. Dual core functionality was first introduced in honeycomb, because honeycomb marked the move from kernel 2.6.32 up to 2.6.36.
Multicore functionality was added to the linux kernel 2.6.35, which coincidently, our Evo3D is running. So yes, our phones currently are utilizing the multi-core processor.
Its simple think about it in terms of windows xp with a quad core... you didnt see any change in the proformance of windows xp going from a dual core to a quad core actually most of the time you saw a marked improvement from overclocking the dual vs the quad. This holds true here as well the "core" of the operating system can utilize the dual core but the actual software doesnt have any intelligence.. that means that it cant tell one program to go to this core not this core it kinda just bounces is around like crazy.. so fast forward to Windows 7 and all the sudden those quad core systems are crazy fast.. this is becuase windows can now tell programs hey this processor isnt doing anything so run on this one. this is what ice cream will do for us you will see a huge increase in multithreaded apps and being able to run multiple things at once which is already nice as it is on this phone i run pandora and text people and have no slow down which on my old phone was a joke. so just give it time this phone will continue to get fast over time this i knowo from being a hardware tech for desktops

Its totally different to abuse htc's social networks, from making a petition that noone cares. Not even htc.
It won't happen. It's too late in their development process to make sense 4.0 for our devices. There probably already finished with 3.6 they are just waiting for final confirmation and allowance from carriers to push it. Although I'm not sure lol

HTC said that the new image processor is an important part of sense 4.0. So yeah that spec is something our phones don't have. How true that noone will know unless HTC gave us the Sense 4.0 source code.
They said first to that HTC Desire HD wouldnt get Sense 3.0 and it still got it. So who knows we will get Sense 4.0 official to.
We will see then. But I don't worry about an small think like that as there is already an sense 4.0 rom and I'm sure as soon we have official ICS for our device that the devs will make an fully functional sense 4.0 rom.

Important part lol..
They rebuild Sense 4.0 from the ground up! It's based on Sense 2.1 iirc, which is the best Sense version imho. The image crap they put in is nice, but it's more a brand thing.. like "Wow HTC has a dedicated Image Processor for better quality!". You can compare it to the Beats integration, it's cool to have it, but it doesn't add a whole lot to the overall experience.

So you've seen the code and see it's based on sense 2.1? It may look similar but we don't know what's under the hood yet.
I'm sure the bigger reason is they don't want to spend the money to rewrite the code for older phones, or the carriers don't want to split the bill for that work. Plus the non-vocal majority of people who own these phones will be quite upset if their phone UI is changed to something they're not used to. It's similar to Apple not giving you Siri on an Iphone 4 vs 4s. We all know that work is server side so it's not the processor, it's the fact that Apple wants you to buy a 4s vs a 4.
Does it suck, sure, but I can see the reasons on their end they went with sense 3.6 instead. Atleast we're getting ICS and an updated sense.
Better question is what does 4.0 offer that 3.6 does not...exactly.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Its true Sense 4.0 is much different from Sense 3.0. And be honest I think its an big change. So I can understand if they not include Sense 4.0 in the updates for HTC Evo 3D and HTC Sensation.

Sense 4.0 ROM?

Hey everyone.
I wanted to install a sense 4.0 ROM, but I see that the thread is locked. Is sense 4.0 not being worked on anymore?
No leaks. It can only be booted up and played with when your bored. Not really worth bothering

Aren't we getting sense 3.6? If so, wouldn't we not get a 4.0 leak? Just asking. I've heard others say the same thing about waiting for a leak. Is there another way we can get 4.0?

Indeed, once the official Sense 3.6 update is released the necessary parts can be ported into a Sense 4.0 ROM and be made fully functional for our EVO's. Patience my friend .

dont worry too much about it... often you have to wait a lot longer than the companys say... in the end you are just so sad.. just wait and drink tea

will we ever get htc sense 4 notifocation on...

On our EVO 3d? I mean like it looks awesome. It would be cool.
You could try out the sense 4 rom
Just try ICS cusrom with sense 4.0 or wait for the official. Even the inferior One V could run it, Evo 3D must be capable of it, too.

It's not about the specs [ie, ram, processor etc]. HTC have stated that all the HTC phones barring the One series don't have certain hardware components that is needed for Sense 4.0. Like the new Camera.
EDIT: I actually might be wrong check my post under the next 2

Yes but it doesnt have ZSL and all those other sense 4.0 goodies.
This isnt a debate. You will not be getting Sense 4.0 Officially. So either go flash up a unoficial Rom or just stop posting.
Hey guys, the decision to not update Sense 3.x phones to Sense 4.0 isn't related to technology; it's a business decision. HTC has to weigh the costs and benefits

it is hardware related too.....something called ImageSense is related to hardware components that are new to the entire one series...including the 'weakling' one V.
We will see sense 4.0 custom ROM with all the bells and whistles we want, once we get all the sources for ICS released. Its just a matter of time and these android updates are dragging it all the way.

HTC Rezound ICS Coming soon?

It seems though the HTC Rezound is going to be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich very soon. The picture on Verizon Wireless's website shows an HTC Rezound with Sense 3.6, but when I click on the page to view the phone, it shows the phone back with Sense 3.5. This should mean that the update is coming soon.

Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) has been out for almost a month on this device, it was released August 1st, and pretty much everyone I know with a Rezound has gotten it already, worked the kinks out, and is generally satisfied with it... if you are stock, have you done a check for updates recently?
Yep, it has been out for a while.

The Rezound was officially updated from Gingerbread Sense 3.5 about a month ago to ICS Sense 3.6. The Rezound probably won't ever see Sense 4.0 officially. We have to depend on developers for that at this point.
