I've rooted plenty of devices, flashed countless ROMS all the way back to Windows Mobile but this dern Aria is killing me.
This is a coworker's phone that I rooted and flashed CyanogenMod 7.
it's out of memory, of course, ClockworkMod version is 2.5.0.7. Rom Manager is the latest in the market.
First I tried to partition the card through Rom Manager which didn't work. It did format the card though.
Went into ClockworkMod and there no menu for partitioning. So... I put the SDCard in my Epic4G and partitioned it there.
The partition shows in Titanium Backup but no apps go there.
He's previously moved all apps to the SDCard, no partition, if that matters.
I've tried DarkTremor, didn't boot and had to restore, Tried S2E, caused EVERYTHING to FC. Tried installing new apps to test they still go to internal. Tried mounting the SDEXT in ClockworkMod, Same.
I'm out of ideas, Help!
Is the partition formatted as EXT3? AFAIK, S2E is not compatible with EXT4. Also, try to reformat with the linux tool gparted.

u can try a program called link2sd its free in the market.
Thanks, I'll bring my linux notebook and try to muddle through it.
I'm not sure what my Epic, IIRC it does have an official clockwork recovery, formatted the card to.
Do a clean install on his phone. Backup all his apps with titanium. Boot into CWM, format /system, wipe data and factory reset, clear cache, clear dalvik, install Rom, install kernel (optional), flash DT script, reboot (it will bootloop twice, this is normal behavior and then it will boot into android). Restore with titanium and all the apps will be installed to the EXT partition.
This phone is hateful!
Wiped everything, installed the latest nightly, flash DT Beta 04.
Rebooted started installing apps and they all went to the EXT partition. Yay!
Titanium FC'd in one app so I installed GAPPS and BOOM! The internal is filled again!
WTF?!
Open up terminal and type
Su
a2sd reinstall
Reboot (don't know if this is necessary)

I have s2e install on my aria and it runs flawlessly. I have all about 200 apps and my dalvik on my sd and still have 140mb available of internal space.
This maybe a long shot, but in cm settings, make sure "allow application moving" is un-checked and install location is set at automatic. s2e tricks the phone in thinking the ext is the internal space. I hope this is helpful. good luck.

Hello.
I just got an HTC Hero, and I've faced the problem of lack of space already.
So I read about this app, unaware I would need it (naive of me), while I was downloading the VillainRom v13, to replace the VillainRom v12 I had.
I flashed it succesfully. I installed the apps I had before. But now, unfortunately, I'm running low on internal space.
How can I move application to the SD card? Is there a tutorial that explains me how to do it for my phone and rom?
How can I determine if my SD card is fast enough?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
to move applications just go to settings>applications>manage applications and click on which ever app you want to move to sd card. Once you click on the app it'll go to a page which will allow you to move your app to the sd. Usually class 4+ SDs are fast enough
The question is that I have tried that... But I don't have that option!
I believe it is because I'm on the 2.1 rom, instead of 2.2, and that option was only introduced in 2.2.
welll, im not sure how to do it without wiping and starting all over again but,
if you make a nandroid.. then backup your sd card onto your computer(including the nandroid backup)
you could go into your recovery image and partition your sd card, swap - 32mb, ext2 - 512mb and fat32 the rest (it takes you through those settings step by step)
then wipe factory reset/all data and wipe your dalvik cache
then flash your rom (double check that the rom has a2sd).. and the rom will do the work for you!
i just did this with wildhero... its the only rom im 100% sure will do the a2sd for you

I was struggling with this aswell
The thing is my ClockWork Mod doesn't have that formatting option...
Does VR13 support A2SD natively? I believe so.
I use HTC HD2, Android on SD card, don't know how to use A2SD ?
Now i use Swapper2 to set Swap file.
Something strange is happening to me. I always have installed 2.2 roms on my X10 mini pro with the same precedure: formating cache, wipe status and fotmating Dalvik cache and never had a problem; but now, with Gingerbread based roms, even doing the same, always appear my old installed apps and the roms don't work properly. I can't avoid this and I've installed roms even from the original stock rom and I can't solve it, i also tried to format the SD Card, and same...
Strange? Any solutions?
Thanks in advance!!
Weird.. never experienced that issue before. I've noticed gingerbread gives you a list of apps when you set up your google account. You can tick boxes and it will install the apps without having to bother with market - however, the 'modern' version of market doesn't like it and is sllllooooooowww.
If the phone/sd card is wiped I don't know how it keeps them. I can only think you could try to move the apps to sd and then format it, then reinstall the rom.
Sent from my U20i using Tapatalk
I've tried to move the apps to the SDcard, and still the same. Maybe if I don't tick the Google option about Security Copy it won't happen?
Even if I'm not logged in Google, when I've just installed the rom and the android symbol appears (Touch the android to continue), appears my previous installed app IMO+ and Advance task killer; and when I get the apps list, several of them still there, but withot data, only the apps.
Agree: New market sucks...
Thanks for the help bro!
Here it is what I do always I stall a new rom:
1º.- Recovery mode (Clockwork recovery)
2º.- Wipe data/factory reset.
3º.- Wipe Cache partition.
4º.- Wipe Dalvik Cache.
5º.- Install the rom from the SD card..
6º.- Wipe Data/Factory reset.
7º.- Wipe Cache partition.
8º.- Wipe Dalvik Cache.
And... tachaaaaaaaaaaaaan!! The previous installed apps still there, but no their DATA...
I experienced your same issue. Maybe CWR wipe does not wipe porperly.
I solved this way: extracted SD from mini and formated from PC.
Thanks, i'll try wiping with Xrecovery and if it doesn't work i'll format the sd in PC.
Thanks a lot!

Still using Xrec? Most ROM's now use CWM, D4rKn3sSyS recently released a dual recovery (xrec and cwm, depending on which button you press), it somewhere on page 1 at the time of writing. (sorry, im too lazy to go copy its link =P)

Yes, I know and I always use CWM, but when I wipe the apps don't dissappear, so I tried Xrecovery and a different version of CWM, but still the same.
My SD Card has a EXT partition for Link2SD from 2.1 Stock rom; maybe...?!
My SD had EXT partition too. When I formatted it from PC I deleted that partition. New custom ROMs don't need any more to have a different partition to install applications on SD.

Hi all,
1
I've been using Simple2Ext on CM 7.0.3 eversince i installed CM 7.
I was using a 2GB sdcard,partitioned 1,8GB FAT32/ 256MB EXT3.
Yesterday i've bought a new 16GB sdcard and partitioned it 15GB FAT32/ 1GB EXT3.
I've copied all data of both partitions from the old card to the new one and most of my apps are still working.
However when i try to install an app from market the phone reboots and the install fails, this doesn't happen with every app.
I've already wiped the cache and dalvik-cache partitions but it didn't help.
I also tried to fix the permissions using rom managers "fix permissions".
Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks!
Edit: I know it would be easy to disable s2e,clear the partition and restore a titanium backup but i can't do this cause titanium backup refuses to restore any backup since i've changed the sdcard.
It gives a parse error, and i still have to try to solve this. (didn't have the time)
Edit2: Nevermind,i've noticed Cyanogen 7.1 went from RC to stable so i flashed it,this solved my s2e and titanium backup problems.
I have an Optimus V running IHO with s2e installed.
I am trying to use s2e to copy my dalvik cache to my sd-ext partition, but it's not working. I check the box and it says "reboot required", so I reboot, re-open s2e, and it still says "reboot required". I don't think it actually copied it to sd-ext.
How can I get it to copy my dalvik cache (~107MB)?
I havent heard of iho. But s2e is only for cm7 based roms...
Sent from my LG Optimus One P500 using xda premium
Android is right, you can only use with cm7...try using ungaze or darktremor
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
IHO is based of CM 7.1. s2e copied my apps and download cache to my sd-ext just fine, it's the dalvik cache it's having issues with.
I had the same problem yesterday, uninstall s2e than reinstall from market and all of those blocked selections will be available to check....giving your on a cm7 rom...if that doesn't work repartition the sdcard than reinstall the s2e.apk than select which options you want moved to sdext and it should work

Try wiping dalvik-cache, maybe the new one will be created on the sd-ext.

I currently have my apps and download cache on sd-ext. That worked (works) fine.
I just noticed that I have both /cache/dalvik-cache and /data/dalvik-cache. Could this be why I can't move it to sd-ext?

I tried uninstalling and re-installing s2e, didn't work. The weird thing is that my apps and my download cache moved to sd-ext just fine.
im having the same problem. just loaded bobzhome CM7.2.0 on my optimus v. it will move anything but the dalvik cache. whats the problem?
IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!!
i moved applications only to the SD ext partition. after this i wasnt able to load many of my apps, the most important of which was s2e. so i wasnt able to undo the move. fortunately this happened early on after i flashed the new rom. so i just called it a bad job and reflashed the rom.
im giving up on the idea of extending my ext partition. i just reformatted my SD card for basic SD storage. i will just have to live within my means. not being able to move the Dalvik cache should have been enough to ward me off, but after having it mess my apps up too im not going to try again until im really desperate.
Personally I tried ungaze a d s2e and darktremor was my favorite. You get the .zip for recovery and the UI in market, search for darktremor in it. You will have the option to move dalvik cache to sd ext. My ext is formated in ext4 by the way, might be your problem. I write here mainly to tell you that in my own experience moving dalvik to sd-ext on top of my apps to sd-ext made my rom laggy and slow. Apps only worked fine. Darktremor's the best. Try it.

Mount as Ext4
how r u partitioning the sd card? I use mini tool and have partitioned it fine. make sure you make a fat32 1st, 2nd ext2 & 3rd Linux swap (see attached image - Disc 2 as example). Thats the only way it works. Best of luck Also, once s2e is installed, open s2e > menu > settings > select option 'Mount as Ext4'. I will not recommend moving applications and private apps, just move dalvik cache and download cache.

I have been going round and round with this issue for a long time.... i used mini tool and other programs like darktremor and NONE worked,
I used mini tool like nth20 has stated only I created a fat32 partition,
I used the integrate SYS davik option in titanium backup!
I am useing a IHO rom that has link2sd and that worked for me...
good luck i have reflashed and tried so many roms and was finally able to get this to work.

I don't really want to move the dalvik-cache, to sd-ext, but when I try to install or update anything from the market, I get "package file invalid". I'm assuming that the error is that my cache is full.

Do you need a swap partition for dalvik cache to move correctly? I didn't add one, so that may be the issue. Unfortunately, I have too many apps, and I need them moved to sd-ext, because they don't fit in the internal memory.

Yup. Either your dalvik cache or download cache or both cannot find enough space in internal memory.

You need the swap partition as apps use it the space while installations. Saves you from the 'package file invalid' error.
Hope this helps.

I can try to add one, and see if that helps, but I think if I can install apps now, then I don't need to actually move the dalvik cache.

Just 20MB. That's kinda low. Attached is a screenshot from my device. Check the size of the dalvik cache.

First of all, I apologize in advance. I searched through everything and can't find my question. I'm a complete smartphone noob (got my first one a couple days ago--Canada's wireless providers are criminally expensive and I boycotted them as long as I could) and, while I'm reasonably good at technical things overall, I'm totally inexperienced here, with smartphones in general, Android, and it's parent OS Linux.
That out of the way: I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace, with Gingerbread 2.3.4 on it, through the provider Koodo. I am loving this phone, but I'm not entirely sure why certain things didn't work. There were apps I couldn't download due to a lack of space (despite a mostly empty 16GB microSD card), and apps that wouldn't install for other reasons. And always that frighteningly small 158MB system drive staring me in the face. So I decided to try to fix it.
I carefully read every bunch of instructions I could find and understand. Successfully rooted the phone. Installed ClockworkMod Recovery. I repartitioned the SD card with a big ext partition and swap space using CWM. I installed CF-Root-S5830_dtapps2sd-v1.2.zip successfully, and App2SD from the market.
This hasn't helped my free space at all. Nothing seems to be using that new ext partition. My available space did not go up at all...but (of course) my SD card space went down by the size of the new partitions.
I was under the impression there were kernels that could help your phone treat the SD card ext partitions like system space, but I can't figure out where or how for the life of me. Everything has worked, but it hasn't actually done anything.
-NoobGrrl
ur cf-root is not the latest, and I think if u make sd card partition by using cwm, the format will be ext3 not ext4.. so, u should try this step :
1. flash the latest cf-root v37-b82 through cwm from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158197
2. partition ur sd card by using minitool partition wizard (google it) and make ext4 format.
3. flash the latest darktremor through cwm (don' forget to mount system n sd card) from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715116
4. install a2sd gui from market... done..
You probably forgot to move the dalvik cache to sd-ext from A2SDGUI.
To begin with, as you haven't done this before, I recommend you download the app link2sd rather than app2sdgui. Your system will be ext3 from CWM. Select and reboot. Then return to link2sd and you can move apps one by one or by batch installation to your partition by creating a "link". This method gives you finer control over which apps to move. It shows file sizes and how much of the app will be moved. After moving the apps reboot and hey presto - free internal memory.
I also recommend getting an app called DiskUsage to see what is taking up space and a file browser with root functions. I use Root Browser by jrummy16 - free on market.
Sent from a phone with an app.
First of all, thanks for the replies! I like the detailed instructions from musf especially...step-by-step for me is really the best way.
Okay, tried to follow those directions exactly. Minitool Partition Wizard has reformated the little 2GB partition I made on the SD card to ext4. Most recent CF-Root and dtapp2sd zips seemed to install fine. I think I mounted all the drives...I just do it from CWM, yes?
Downloaded A3SDGUI and it gives me an error:
Exiting A3SDGUI
Could not start for one of these reasons:
1. Your device is not rooted (it is, superuser shows access granted to A3SDGUI)
2. A3SD scripts could not be found (if so, no idea why.)
3. No EXT partition found (again, no idea why.)
Edit: Tried Link2SD and it gave an error as well, "Mount script could not be created. No such device."
Okay, so obviously it doesn't see my SD card's partition. So I put it back in my PC and recreated it again. No change at all...
yes from cwm, choose the "mount n storage" menu, then moutn system, then mount sdcard, then instal the darktremor zip file..
That seems to have almost worked...yes, I was mounting the drives after running DT. Duh. (I assumed somehow that DTapp2sd allowed me to set up the drives and I was telling the phone to mount it afterward so it could be used. I didn't realize DTapp2sd just needed to write to the drive.)
Almost. Almost worked.
Now, app2sd actually starts up successfully, no errors. (link2sd still gives the same error.) However, App2SD can't actually move anything. All items remain disabled, even after selecting them.
So then I remember the post above about the dalvik cache. So I go into App2SD and try to move it to the sd-ext folder, and it tells me there is not enough space. I have 124 MB of system memory left right now...and the SD card is mostly empty.
Follow the following instructions and tell me if they work:
(redo the steps even if you have done them already)
1. download cwm5 from the forum and place it into your sd card.
2. make a backup of your sd card and reboot your phone into recovery.
3. flash cwm5 file and reboot the recovery.
4. from the recovery, re-partition your card with a ext partition (you dont need more than 256-512mb. I have 16gb card and mine is only 256mb).
5. select swap if you want it.
6. ~partitioning complete~
7. Connect your phone to your computer with usb wire (while in recovery.)
8. mount usb storage from recovery.
9. copy the cfroot file to your memory card from pc.
10. unmount the usb storage.
11. mount system, sdcard, sd-ext (just to be on safe side) and flash with cfroot.
12. reboot.
13. open a2sdgui.
14. click yes, apps are on sd!, zipalign on boot is on!.
15. set swap if you want it.
16. from dalvik, click on dalvik cache on sd-ext and click move and rebuild.
17. your phone should reboot and you will be done
Notes: Its normal that after flashing a2sd script, your phone restarts a coupe of times so just leave it alone for a moment.
Don't forget to give superuser permission to a2sdgui.
If you still get some error, sty flashing the script again.
If it still doesn't get through, search for the dt a2sd beta 4 script and flash that from recovery. Other steps are the same!
Happy FLASHING

Go to recovery, Wipe cache/system/data. (make sure you have made a backup of your data.)
Mount the stuff and flash with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258830
You have a new rom with dt a2sd running within
I'm going to try a different version of dtapp2sd first.
Should the ext and swap partitions be logical or primary?
I'm starting to think my EXT partition is not formatting properly in mini partition tool. Unfortunately CWM uses Ext3 and I'm told it's worse than Ext4 and Ext2 is better than both for an SD card.
Both primary. 1st one should be fat32 and second one should be ext2.
Well, good news and bad news. After some work, reformatting the partitions again, reflashing a new kernel, I finally got it working.
Trouble is, it's not stable. Apps keep crashing, the "Gallery" app only shows a black screen, and it randomly loses access to the FAT32 partition when running, and the SIM card occasionally says "Unrecognized" (forcing me to "restore to factory.")
*sighs*
Flash to the rom i linked you to.
