[q] urgent- why not use torrents! - Optimus One, P500, V General

Why the hell do people use direct download sites for roms and such? It would be alot less painful to just download a torrent and wait a few minutes then click through a billion pages and wait up to half an hour.
Come one people if your smart enough to mod smartphone roms then your smart enough to create torrents.

Mostly, torrents are seen in the general public as a method to distribute pirated software.
Yes I know major Linux distributions rely on torrents to release new versions.

I second that.

What kind of a mod takes half an hour to download? Yes, sometimes you have to wait an extra half a minute, but the downloads are usually very quick, especially considering the typical sizes of the mods. Also, why is this urgent?

This is or rather could be the evolution of content delivery. The cloud.
One problem, one person sharing the file while many try to download isn't good.

Don't leave me behind Gingerbread! (best standby rom on GB)

Ok, so I made a thread about a month ago asking for a battery saving Froyo ROM, most suggested was Bi Winning, and i've been on it since.
While on Bi Winning I noticed something..
Sometimes my phone would be at 50% at night when i recharge it, or most of the time 70's and 80's
I know I don't use my phone extensively as most of you do, but MORE than HALF of the time, my phone is on standby. Are there any good GB roms that have good standby battery? I'm planning on going to the new ROM JETPACK, because I think it looks beautiful. Any suggestions guys?
Yes. Simply Honey just calibrate your battery. Trust me. But try jetpack

Gingerzen. I get about 18 hrs daily and for the most part my phone is in stand by. Its also not themed out with a bunch of junk like simply honey or any of those roms.

Simply Honey just... is not my look. the status bar freaks me out and i dont even understand it? Is there a theme that makes it look like a normal GB rom? or something similar?
@Johnsexydavis (nicenamelol)
I can't find Gingerzen on Vibrant Dev forum, and i just noticed your on GT-I9000... are you sure your from this phone? you might be suggesting me a I9000 rom lol
Actually gingerzen is on rootzwiki and I think xda. Brick'd made it

Words with Friends + CM9

Okay, I am hearing the same thing from a lot of people:
Atrix 4G + CM9 = Words with Friends crashes.
Apparently this is a Kernel issue. Is there a Kernel that does not cause Words with Friends to crash?
Nothing yet. Only solutions are playing it on a laptop, desktop, tablet, CM7 or other ROM, or not play it all.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
This totally sucks. Yesterday, I will still on Android 2.2. Words with Friends sees more clock time with me than any non-phone related app.
If there is a resolution... please oh please someone message me.
Trust me. I'm a big fan/user of words with friends as well. It's either CM9 or words w/ friends. Take your pick.

I know personal mileage may vary but I'm currently running turl's v8 CM9 with the acerbix kernel and have very few crashes or lockups with WWF. Moore often than not it is slow when switching between the game board and the ads and back, but it usually comes back just fine. I tried the v8 kernel and faux's kernel, but they didn't work.

I can also vouch for the acerbix kernel making it livable.
When I tried acerbix's kernel I was getting plenty of FCs. I've been on Jokersax's builds though, could it be that turl's with acerbix kernel can run it but joker's can't?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I haven't yet tried a jokersax ROM so someone else will have to chime in on that. He's supposed to have an update soon, including a kernel update, so I may switch over and try when that release drops.
Words also wants to crash on my cm7. However, when the force close screen comes up, I choose to wait and usually it'll work for a while before crashing again.

I honestly have the timing down now. There are only two ways its crashes and I typically have to pull the battery because of it. The first like everyone says is the transition to the Ad screen after making a play (it is only after the play has been sent to the Server so this is no big deal.) The second is in the Chat window of a game that will crash if you try to hit back. I found by hitting Home within a second or two of the Ad coming up you can force the app closed and reopen it. It takes a few seconds but not much more time it takes for the ad to go away.
Makes me wonder what in the world WWF is doing that makes the kernel go so crazy. Every other game that I've put on turl v8 seems to perform flawlessly--2D and 3D games alike.
Can someone link me to acerbix's kernel? been searching around, but cant find it.
TIA

i used void too surely was awesome.. always wanted to try megatron never got a chance for it... hope you can revice them..
I could revive them if I had a computer worth of doing such a thing...unfortunately I'm not sure the old xp could even handle that sorta thing...not to mention,we wont have internet back til Sunday....I don't have a Linux program, but I already know there easy to find...I'd have to talk to the original developer of void to get his blessings bit if anyone did it before me...that would be awesome..keep it minimal and light and have the options of doing what you wanted....incredible battery life for battery lovers and high benchmark for those gamers out there....funny thing is if it hadn't been for those legendary roms this device had almost 2 years ago we wouldn't of seen many great roms afterwards...if anyone has any ideas as to how I'd get started with using a crappy PC,let me know..its about time I make a better contribution other than being a senior on this site...

If more on this site took the time to learn a few things, there would be less noobish remarks made on developer threads...the moderators have taken great measures to keep most of em clean but for the not part I've seen users actually asking how to root this device...a step by step guide in good English on developing, theming, and porting would be incredible to see...have some links to programs that darknight,Neco,Franco,mik_os and others have used....

[Q] Help - poor battery

Hi, I need some battery help, this is my first android phone after running with ios for the last 4 years, I'm using th S3 and loving it however I'm having to charge the phone twice a day. Like I say this is my first android so rooting is new and I unsure what I'm doing here. I've followed plenty tips to save battery life but it's still running down too quick.
After 3 1/2 hours of very little use my battery is at 70%
Standby has zapped 24% of that
Screen another 24%
Internet 21%
System 12%
OS 8%
These safe the main culprits for the battery use, I understand you can do something when you root the devise, any help would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks
This should be in the Q&A section, but please be specific as to what exactly you were doing? (Gaming, browsing in 3g or wifi, etc.) If you just got the phone however, just wait for about three and four days and the real battery life would start to emerge. This is the time when most phones can actually last for almost a day or two. Another thing is that you should download Better BatteryStats and find apps that give the most wakelocks. Just take a screenshot and upload it here if you need help. And live wallpapers and widgets do cause some unnecessary battery drain.

I've had it since release. I hoped that JB would fix the battery. I'll try and get a screenshot later
maybe something stopping your device from going into deepsleep.
One use Better Battery Stats ,
Two read the multitude of battery threads .
Basics .

I think he's talking about underclocking the max cpufreq to 800 mhz when you're sure that you're not going to be using the device for a while. I think it's a pretty good idea actually, but certainly not practical for everybody especially heavy users like me

Yeah. I sometimes do that when im not near a charger and my battery is dwindeling. Anything less than 800mhz is pretty bad though when your used to the rapidness.
Looks like im selling this badboy anyway. Hopefully get a lg nexus next week. It seems to me that to acheive proper butteryness you have to use toichwiz ui. None of the cm10 or even when i use nova or any other launcher. None of are as smooth as tkuchwiz.Im mad for mods and flashing so think its time for a switch.

Thinking of the same too actually. But based on the rumors, I hear more nexuses coming from other OEMs are to be actually revealed rather than just from lg. Although if the nexus 4 really does come with just 8gb of internal storage without a microsd slot then I'm sticking with my S3. Although I hear that new parts of code are already starting to show up in the Origen-board-something for exynos processors, this might turn out to be a gamechanger for our problems with cm10 or other pure android goodies.

What's the most stable Rom with everything working?

I dont really need sense 4 or best battery life I'm always next to my charger so that's fine I with or without sense is ok not really needed but stable download speeds is a must cuz I do some hardcore torrent downloads thanks and performance is a must to cuz I'm a hardcore gamer so basically I'd like a Rom for gaming and downloads I know the terms about you can't really say what's the best Rom cuz everyone is diff but I just need to know of some that are good for gaming vipersense is out no offense I love the the Rom but shadowgun kept freezing my phone and adownloader wouldn't download anything I left a download on all night it only downloaded 30 mb out of 7 gb this would probably give you an idea of what kind of Rom I'm looking for thanks

Umm from what you are describing as your needs you should just stick to stock experience because you will always run into small random bugs in virtually every custom ROM that most people who are experienced in flashing can easily fix or make workarounds or do relevant searches regarding their problems. Since battery life isn't an issue and complete stability is what you desire stick with stock/rooted debloated ROM or just flash faux kernel on top of stock ROM and over clock it using system tuner pro (for intense gaming if you feel the device is underperforming). Good luck

Since everyone is going to give you a different answer that won't be correct for your phone, we generally close these type of best/fastest/mostest threads whenever we see them. Like now. As stated above, try them all until you find the one you like.
Also, you might benefit from taking some time to read some of the stickied guides. I see you are new here and I understand the excitement and rush to post and ask everything at once, however, I believe that many of your questions have been asked and answered before so a little reading time might be the fastest way to pick it up.
