Greetings
This is my first post and hopefully ive scoured the forum well enough before I post this. HTC and Sprint have been advertising the HTC EVO 3D which I have and they say the processor is a dual core processor. Is SMP enabled with the android OS? All the cpu utils that Ive downloaded so far only show one processor and top only shows one cpu?
thanks
Rich
It is asymmetric, so, not SMP.

Thanks for the reply and answer on this issue.. I was curious why multi-processors werent displayed..

for better dual core support now shows both cores
Thanks for the heads up, and but is it optimize for gingerbread now?
I just noticed my first core is just running at 740 mhz and the first seems off, I remember the OG evo always would run at 800mhz plus
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
SystemPanel Lite was not updated however
I don't use it enough to justify buying it, so I guess I'll wait and see if they update the free version.
Thanks

Will have to load up and check it out. I bought it when I had my OG Evo but stopped using it, it was kind of a hog so I switched to Watchdog. (*Watchdog doesn't show nearly the detail as CP) We have plenty of headroom on the 3VO so I will give it a whirl again.
Thanks for the headsup!
It show the second core dead for the most part anyone else see this? It will move the second core when I wake the phone but thats about it.
Edit:
On my Xoom it shows both cores playing together.

Xoom doesn't have asynchronous cores. The cores on the 3D only activate when needed. They operate independently, so the second core will only be running when it needs to be.

Hey zone23 i know the you develop roms coming from the OG evo myself, you think it will be a way to make both run side by side, and I mean that phone is speedy but just wondering

That is something that I want an answer to as well..imagine the speed this thing would have if we could.open up both cores..then we could show the gs2 what's what ..
hello
i want to change from htc sensation to atrix 4G but i want to know..how much Atrix can get it in quadrant advanced..i want 2D & 3D result
which CPU & GPU is better ?? atrix or sensation ??
Quadrant will produce an inaccurate result because it is not dual core. There plenty of benchmark threads for reference.
Antutu seems to be a decent and well spoken about spp. Comparisons to other phones aswell as other options also has its own setcpu style program.

Anyone know if theres an app, or some way to overclock the gpu?
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda premium
Chances are no. I believe it has to be done on a kernel level. Also if an app says it does I would definitely stay away from the app Lol also have you tried the better drivers I've read that improve performance on gsm modles ??

Nova3 is tearing, mc3 the same, gta3 with high details too.
What is wrong with this phone? I have stock ICS, did a wipe. Sd card class 10 sandisk mobile ultra. On gingerbread it was the same, even on roms with 1,8ghz OC.
On htc Sensation this game is fluid, so wtf?
Any help? Ppl say that on their evo there is no lag or tearing.
Oops, I never try any high quality 3D game on my androidphone. I only play the games like temple run doodle god etc. I dont care about game performance on cellphone because the size of screen is only 4.3......If I really want to play game, I will enjoy it with my xbox360 and 46``HDTV

i had GTA 3 on GB,ICS Sense 3.6 and ICS Sense 4.0.it was zero lag.like on a game console.
The thing that pissed me off is that ppl say there is no problem with MC3 and nova3. On my phone there are problems. So may it be that my phone has worse sillicon and drops framerate etc.
On console you dont have gyroscope, and i dont like console games. I like android ones.

With the latest ICS the phone can barely manage 2000 quadrant, so top end games are always going to lag. Even temple run stops and starts and lags sometimes for me, not to mention the crappy crackling sound.
..forcing dual core and setting the governor to performance helps a bit, but it's still not up to par where an S3 should be.
But I know it's possible since on my GSM version when putting some of the old GB mui based roms on I could get 4000+ quadrants with a bit of overclocking and games ran noticeably better.
My guess is because the screen is 3D capable it's not as efficient as other phones even when running in 2D, so HTC throttled the crap out the cpu/gpu/mem-bandwidth to equalise the battery drain.

Some ppl complain at ICS performance in games. Benchmarks dont tell **** cause every phone has lower scores at ICS I think. Look at galaxy nexus.
With this screen thing its interesting, but for me either my phone is faulty, or there are some drivers issues. I have 5+5 mpix gsm version, so that maybe its worse or sth.

Forcing dual core?how? Do you mean our dual core processers only work under one core?

by default the way its supposed to work is, the first core is always on, running to run apps and system. The second core is supposed to kick in on demand. When what you are running demands more, the second core is supposed to kick in.
This worked well on GB roms because thats the way they wrote the code. It was designed that way.
On ICS roms, there are ways to turn on both cores. There is a patch. There are some apps. The best one I've found is system tuner pro. You can set it to turn on both cores on completed boot and they will always be on.
This kicks up the performance of the phone significantly. However, there goes your precious battery life.
The EVO 3D has a pretty powerful dual core processor. Without it, the 3D would be totally useless.

Thanks for your explanation. But I am still confused about one thing. Do you mean the cellphone running ICS rom tuns on both of two cores when it completes boot? And no matter what I run, it always keep dual core running? If it was, the cellphone would spend more energy than GB rom.and generates more heat.....

That all depends on what rom you are using. Some developers have init.d edited to where both cores are always on. Or they've applied the patch to do so. By default, ICS is supposed to do the same as GB where the first core is on and the second is supposed to kick in on demand. I just feel that GB did a better job at managing it this way.
Chad Goodman always recommended turning on both cores and leaving them on in ICS as you will always get the best performance possible. Personally I like the option to turn em on if I want to with system tuner pro or leave only the first core on to save on battery life.
Chad had a very good explanation of this - how it works - even how to edit the file yourself. I just did a search for it and it appears to be gone.

But these games should work nice on stock. See the htc sensation which has the same hardware. Many ppl say it runs games much better than evo. Games that I play the most often are mc3, nova3, gta3. They should work nice on evo, as they run ok on single core phones.

by the way , on freeza's and cobraboy's ROM , I and most CDMA users gets 4200-4600 quadrant scores......yeahhh and that's without overclocking!!!!!!! imagine the scores at 1.8 ghz.
If we ever get linaro optimized cm9 or any Rom....scores would be much higher.
I doubt that buddy! Wihout overclocking?? Thats nearly impossible:/

And if I remember right, that ROM is cooked to give you higher benchmark scores, but that does not translate into real world speed. Honestly, benchmark scores are relatively useless as I've had ROMs with mediocre scores feel a lot zippier than ones with high scores.
Yeah u are correct and lot of people have a wrong idea about benchmarks ! Like they compare a galaxy s2 i9100 with custom rom that got 4700 to a one x that scored 4700 but they dont realise that the one x is running a 720p display 1280x720 and the s2 800x480 so the one x has way more pixels to push ! If the one x was tested at 480p it would of smoked the s2

Yeah I know but that ROM was much smoother on my EVO.
I don't depend on benchmarks as the screen resolution differs from phone to phone but there are "OFF SCREEN" gpu benchmarking apps too that does not depend on screen res.
And adreno 220 scores much better in normal gpu benchmark apps also like nenamark, scores a few fps better than Mali 400 though we have higher res!
I posted the above post just to show OP that much higher scores are possible as he himself posted his quad scores comparing to devices with higher resolution.
