So I got an early upgrade of 6 months ahead of my original upgrade a week later, the phone line that i got still says that i have an open upgrade, if there any reason why ? Billing cycle ends in 9 more days btw
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
That's weird, but I'd take advantage of it. Buy another phone and sell it or use it on another line.

I had the same situation. DON'T SAY ANYTHING!! I let it go through one billing cycle to make sure it was still there and it was. I was able to use it again and they never caught it
more then likely, whoever set ur phone up at the sprint store did an ESN swap and not an upgrade.. i used to work for a sprint retailer and i've seen associates do this so many times..
if u don't see an $18 upgrade fee on ur next bill then thats exactly what happened, and i wouldn't worry about it at all...
yeah, leave it be and enjoy an error in your favor.
i've got just the opposite and have to go back to re-enable my upgradabilty since they forgot to turn it back on after returning my evo 3d. but i may end up getting it again since sprint has fixed the data problem in my area and is now better than it used to be.
Thanks for the replys guys , it looks like I will have an upgrade for the nexus phone if it comes out on sprint lol
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
I would snag the GS2 whenever it drops lol

Every rep knows not to do that or their employer would be out the cost of the phone. You must have worked with some real idiots.
What happens is, OP might have accepted some type of deal or credit...
Then they go in and manually change the eligibility... OP, check your contract... What does it say for term? 24 Months? or NC? I suggest using it before you lose it. They do this thing called a audit you know...
Well this is what I see in my account so I think I won't be able to use

You're a SERO/Everything Plus Plan customer aren't you? On the store's end, they did the upgrade correctly. Now when you go somewhere else to use the "second" upgrade (not a corporate store, go to Best Buy or something), they're going to notice that your end date is 2 years from now even though you're upgrade eligible. 95% chance they give you the upgrade anyways because it's money for them. The people at the first store are going to get their report back saying that the upgrade actually DIDN'T go through. So they call up their own support line, which gives them credit for the error, but then the second store you went to gets screwed out of their commision. So for example, if you used your second upgrade towards a Nexus S 4G, they just sold you a $550 phone for $150. Get it? Don't ask how I know. I never did this, but I'm friends with a manager at a Sprint indirect store who explained it to me. He said the second store you go to won't come after you because Sprint has a "customer is always right" policy (don't quote me on that). He said he's done it for the same customer 3 times and nothing has happened.

its an error in the system they use, think back, did the rep say anything unusual
like, hmm it didn't apply your upgrade price, or bare with me I've had a system error
happens all the time, now the rep should have gone back into your account and manually applied the upgrade, but more then likely didn't
it's an in house violation on the rep, and the corp system IT guys are trying to fix it
I wont go into anymore detail as to what it is or how I know
pm me if you want any further info

You can use it but you'll get the rep in trouble if you do. They would have to pay the difference of the retail price of the phone and the price they gave it to you for. So if it's a NS4G and they sold it to you for $150, $550 - $150 = $400 out of their own pocket, plus a slap on the wrist.

wow.. amazing how u can speak for what "every" rep knows about.. are u in the minds of every rep??? I used to to do training sessions in different areas for employees, and u would be surprised at what "every" rep knows and don't know..
ie: employee does esn swap and not an upgrade.. employee still gets paid commission on following check.. 3-6 months later store gets hit with price of phone, not employee.. depending on how retailer operates, employee losses that commission in 3-6 months, not pay for the phone..
like i said.. i worked for sprint retailer for years and have seen this NUMEROUS times..
retailer is to corporate, like night is to day.. complete opposites..

I really mean no offense, I am just completely cynical, since dealing with AT&T for the past twelve years. The best deal I ever got from them was my Wizard for $50 and it was refurbed and they were discontinuing it. Hell I had to pay $200 for my refurbed Cingular 8525! I hear these stories all the time, but I have been up three levels in Customer Retention, and the supervisors, supervisor wouldn't give me a break on my Herme's.
Seriously, Good Luck though!!
Uh huh...

I think you got the subject wrong... should be "Trade up your 8525 for a POS". I sure hope you got that in writing, pal.
Actually...
I managed to get a great deal on my 8525 back in December 2006.
I was coming up on the end of my 2 year contract and called them to see if I could get the 8525 for a deal since I had read other people managed to do so from HowardForums.com. I read a post that you will get the best treatment if you go through the cancellations option and deal with the retention department.
Here is what happened for me:
- $67 credit for roadside assistance I had been paying $2.99 a month for almost 2 years and never used. Told them I didn't know it was on there and they credited my account on the spot.
- Negotiated the price of the phone to $300 with a new 2 year contract and was informed that the phone came with a nice leather case (which I knew it didn't, but the lady insisted that it did).
- Was told that they would send the phone overnight for no extra charge and put the amount on my bill so I could pay it later, but after 3 days of (going crazy) waiting I called and they told me they were waiting for a credit card number from me in order to send it. I told them that wasn't what I was told and that I was a bit upset about it. Got escalated to someone else.
- The new person confirmed that it would be sent and charged my credit card for $250 (rather than $300 - I just remained quite when she said the amount) to get the phone sent and informed me that they would credit my account $100 for the trouble.
- I asked the new lady I was dealing with about the leather case and she told me that it didn't come with one. I let her know that I was told it did so she credited my account another $35 to go to a local Cingular store to buy a new leather case.
- Plus there was a $50 rebate for that phone as well at that time.
- And to top it all off 200 bonus anytime minutes every month. I can't remember exactly how this happened, but I know I asked for it at some point in the dealings and they gave me 200 extra minutes every month for no charge. Shows up as a feature on my Rate Plan & Features page online:
200 Bonus Minutes $0.00
So here is the breakdown...
$250 for the phone
$67 credit for roadside
$100 for the confusion (offered, didn't ask for)
$35 credit for a case
$50 mail-in rebate
$12 waived for overnight shipping
===================
Grand total for a brand new 8525 Dec '06 = -14$ and I got those additional 200 anytime minutes a month to boot... So... sometimes you can catch AT&T (in my case Cingular) on a good day.
Mark

Sorry man, ATT doesn't give out HTC phones due to operator error, you traded "up" to a Nokia.
And as far as best deals on a phone, try $100 for a Hermes.
I kinda like the deal I got. My wife wanted an 8525 (She had just had a new Pantac c300, Talk about extremes) So she tried to get on referbed on the web site but couldn't get the referb discount to work, the phone was discounted to $99 with a 2 year re-up. So I tryed. Got it to go. set it up on her account. 2 days later the phone arrived with an invoice for $0.00 and 2 weeks later she got an invite to come into a store an pick out a free phone if she Re-Uped.... heh like it never happened... Now she dosent want to pay for a data plan so the hermes is mine....

Cingular/AT&T 8525 (Hermes 100)

Radio v 1.50.00
Gotta say I was pretty happy with my deal - paid $100 for an 8125. Had to go through 2 more refurbs(one kept freezing up and the other was VERY buggy - missed calls, white screen, etc). I called after the second and said for the amount I spend on my phone bill each month, I want a phone that works. I was fortunate enough to get someone on the line that was willing to work with me. She looked at my account and started with the whole "you need to go through three of the same device before we can swap for another" but without me even saying anything, SHE suggests that she upgrade me to the 8525. Free express shipping, etc. Got the phone brand new in box! I would gladly pay $100 for another one!

How about $0 thru ATT Premier?
I paid a big fat £zero for my Vario II. I only pat £30 per month for £180 worth of calls/texts/whatever I want plus £12.50 for w'n'w. Bloody brilliant!
Will be the same for when the Vario III comes out. Already got the store lined up to do the deal for me. All about the bargaining!
Well, actually...
I got ATT to trade my 8125 up to an 8525 for free. I don't want to go into the gory details, lest it not work the next time I attempt to trade up, but here's the basic story.
I'm under contract and I wanted an 8525 to use 3.5G internet with my laptop. EDGE is worthless, so I figured it couldn't hurt to try and get ATT to give me one. In the past I've had to swap 8125's for new ones because of some hardware issues. So I went to the service center and told them I was promised a new 8525 in exchange for my 8125 because it's been buggy and i'm losing business and blah blah blah. They couldn't actually do it, but they gave me some helpful info on how this process would actually be done by ATT. Then I proceeded to call ATT and tell each tech i talked to that the people at the service center told me that they would swap me a 8525 but that I had to call up to get it through the mail. Then theyd pass me off to a new tech somewhere else and I'd tell them that someone down the line had promised me the 8525 and I'm just trying to get it. The key to this little social engineering exercise is to know that every time you contact ATT, through the service center or phone, they add a little paragraph to your account summarizing what happened. Each time i talked to a tech theyd add a new paragraph stating I was promised an 8525, and like a game of telephone, the message got a little more garbled and a little more true each time. After an hour or 90 mins I was transferred to the actual department that does this, transfered to a supervisor, and viola. "Ok we'll mail you out the 8525". They mailed me a brand new (i think) 8525 and asked that I mail back my 8125 in the same box.
No ****.

This is the best story, ROTFL
I paid $80 for an 8125. then turned around and sold it to my brother for $150+$100 luggage so $250 off my 8525....
this topic makes me giggle
talked to a rep in one of the local stores who told me the eris was worth $220-$230 in the verizon buy back program.
well shoot, that could get me 2 droid X's, I'll just keep waiting for the incredible HD... or the HTC Merge... or the Motorola Olympus... so many leaked phones just need to be confirmed by now sheesh.
It tells me $132
http://www.trade-in.vzw.com/
And after playing with the Droid X at work and Fascinate (my actual work phone), and Incredible (a supercharged Eris), I'm going to wait until the next HTC comes out.
Looking for an Evo on Verizon, basically. 4.3" screen, front-facing camera, LTE, aaaaaand I'm sold.
Btw, if this is your first Android phone, try not to get one with a 'skin' on it. Stock 'android' is next in line, Droid's Motoblur is just OK, and the Samsung's software CRIPPLES the phone, is awkward and ugly looking, and isn't even Froyo yet.
I grab my 3.2" Eris more than my 4" Fascinate (fastest processor on market).
Sucks to say.
Wait for the next gen, at the beginning of the year, I bet.

no front facing camera, but that's verizon. verizon does NOT like video chatting for some odd reason, it's why they made the fascinate drop the front facing camera unlike all the other galaxy S series phones.
I'm holding off till February (nexus S coming to verizon then), or waiting to see if the motorola olympus (4g, dual core, 4+inch screen) gets fully rooted, e-fuse chip be damned.
I found the buyback program several days ago, too. I see one small potential problem, what value or devalue will Verizon assign if you have rooted and flashed your phone to another rom?
If you send your phone in and they don't like what they receive, then you can't get your phone returned. I would hate to send in my rooted phone, only to be told sorry your phone was rooted and has no value to us, we are giving you nothing.
I save everything and I have not touched my wife's Droid Eris. Is it possible to reflash the DROID Eris back to the stock rom as shipped before selling it back to Verizon.
Thanks.

Let's say I were still on contract and sent my phone in, would I have to pay the full price on a phone of my choice or could I get the 2 year contract deal? I assume it's likely the full price since I'm already on a 2 year contract.

Only trying will tell for sure, but from what I've seen others report, most likely you would pay a discounted price at least, not the full retail. Possibly even the regular upgrade price if it's a $99+ phone with an upgrade normally.
Ok, I did this so I'll let you know the details.
You can trade in a phone for a verizon credit of 132. This does not get you out of your current contract/get you an early upgrade. I happened to have 3 erises (eri?) crap out in under a year, and if you act irritated to the rep they will probably upgrade you to a D inc. In this case, you got the upgrade because of the phone issues, so you can trade it it.
Long story short, this is nice if you are up for and upgrade, but its not a way out of your current contract.
Hope this helps!
Would they take a phone with a bad ESN? Also heard bestbuy and Walmart have buyback programs, wonder if those are any good...
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
Not sure if they would buy back a phone with a bad ESN.
So to my understanding, you send your device to Verizon and through the course of 30 days they will receive the device verify that it works, send you a gift card for $132 and then you could use that to buy a new phone.
Now the question is, will you have to buy the phone for full retail value then? Do you get your upgrade early and then get the discounted price? Or do you get a discounted price without using your upgrade?
I would seriously jump on this for a more up to date smartphone if it didn't take away my upgrade and I still got a discounted price.
But I think the sad thing is your with out a phone for a maximum 30 days.

Having the gift card wouldn't change the price of anything, so if you would have to pay full retail normally then you would still with the gift card. If you're eligible for an upgrade, then you would be able to get the upgrade price.

That's what I was thinking.
Does anybody know how long this will last? I'm holding out for an Incredible2/HD or Bionic, but will upgrade to the Thunderbolt if the program won't last till Q2...
*edit* went to my local store, they don't know when this will expire and were shocked that the Eris was worth $132. The person I spoke to speculated that this was to lure AT&T iPhone users for what that's worth.
Worth much less now
Just checked recently and the trade in value is now $32.

that sucks, Best Buy is offering $66 right now...
Ebay is trying to drum up sales now, say they'll give me $103 for my Eris... think I'll hang with it for awhile yet or use Best Buy's trade in/buy back...

Currently $32 for the eris
I just got a call from radio shack confirming that I was still on for the 24th. So this means that they must be getting in their shipments. I was told that I could come in at 8am on friday to pick up. They usually open at 9am so they must be doing pre-orders before they open. not sure on that. But anyway.
on a side note:
I went to my local sprint store today and the CS there had a evo 3d to play with. I am very excited for this phones arrival. I think the the camera quality is good. Its not any worse than the evo 4g, I have to wait til fri to go in depth with it but I feel 100% positive about using my upgrade for this phone. Also when in portrait the parallax barrier has no effect on the screen, being, I could not detect it even being there. In landscape I had the same result.
radio shack already has them in
I went to my local radio shack yesterday. The manager just happens to be my friend because I rooted his and his wife's phones. But anyways he showed me the phone and I was able to look at one and hold it. Unfortunately they sku isn't in there system yet so he couldn't sell it to me yet but he will contact me as soon as he can if it's before Friday. Ill keep you radioshakers posted as soon as I know. But they are definitely there already.
yeah i just got confirmation my local RS has 15 of them and all the cases and screen protecters. mine got them into about a hour ago
Called my RS earlier and spoke to the manager. They're not opening early but he said since I was first on the list, to come by 15min before opening...so 9:45 for me. I wish the HTC kickstand case was out for Friday but it looks like we won't see it til July
Picking mine up on Friday from RS too! Gonna be the best lunch break I've ever had from work.

Hell yeah, I unfortunately have to work also, but not till 3pm. Then I have sat sun off to play with the beast! It will be hard not to get yelled at for playing with my phone to much on friday. The only reason ill get yelled at will be because they are jealous Iphone sheep, that dont like other ppls phone to be better.
Dude! Radioshack called me yesterday to set up an appointment.
The guy who called me told me he contacted Sprint for me and got my upgrade pushed forward (originally not till Sep. 1st), so I get my 3D for 100$ after turning in my old Evo. I was looking to spend around $500. Bonus!
Radioshack (or at least this employee) just made my experience with them sweeter than I could imagine. Definitely tipping this dude $40 +.
Can't wait till Friday, thanks Radioshack!
Well I called the Radio Shack here in Miami and they are opening at 6 in the morning . I wonder why tho. I'm guessing a lot of people Pre-Order it . He told me I wouldn't be getting a phone . Lol that got me scared . He told me only people that Pre-Order it will be getting one . I told him I was the second person who did pre-order . I'm be there at 5:30 in the morning . Can't wait .

After the Radio shack guy did the work to get him his upgrade early you're going to tell him to screw the poor guy out of his commission?
The rs hear called too. Offered to ask her boss to open early just so I could pick up my phone! hah.
Got mine today in the mail and LOVE IT...!!!!!!
Giving up my spot and keeping the Evo.
Edit: You know... just called and found that there's no risk for giving it a try for 30 days, so I just might do that. Hmm. Decisions.

Hmmmm, thanks for the info! Sprint told me $100, then they told me they weren't accepting any old Evos. I don't know if anyone working there knows whats going on, so I swayed away from them. And, I already bought a no refundable gift card from RadioShack, so I might as well use it I guess.
Thanks though

As stated, who here has gotten the sprint premier letter stating It's ending?
And how mad are you guys about it?
And who is leaving Sprint b/c of this?
3vo Free'd from desire
I did not get the letter. Kinda makes me mad however it's currently the best for unlimited data. Not leaving unless they cap or throttle it. If that's the case, I will go back with cricket. It would be cheaper, and throttled also.
I don't know if I will leave or not. I spoke to a CS rep on the phone and she said I will still get my upgrade from this year and be able to upgrade next year too. The letter said something completely different then what the woman on the phone said. I am upgrading as soon as I become eligible(November). I don't think I will leave over this because you can't get yearly upgrades anywhere else, but I do think that they might lose some customers over this. The crappy data speeds and no 4G expansion going on right now, I wouldn't be surprised if they lost some customers over this. Especially after they use their last updgrade.

lost my premier in april with the first round of changes. I have two Sero premium lines; can't leave, it just can't be beat. If the new network changes take effect, sprint will actually have great 3G and better coverage, and that will make it an awesome network. if...
here's to hoping, cause with my plan I'm not going anywhere, and this (data) $hit has got to get better.

Every time I've really wanted an upgrade, I've gotten one, (when not eligible) , after a single phone call to Sprint. You just gotta "work it" a little bit, and they'll do it. Sprint is NOT in the position to be losing customers over the issue. Win for us: it's definitely a "flipper's market" right now for Sprint customers.
(I even BRIEFLY considered asking for another full-upgrade when I got the EpicTouch a few days ago, but my brain just wouldn't let me say so much bull**** to another human being... (considering I just got a premature upgrade for my EVO3D)......
But, it did let me say just enough to get the add-a-line price of the phone knocked down from $199 to $75, lol.
<<bringing it since 2010>>
got it yesterday. between this, fees slowly going up and the fact there 3g network in my area is pure crap im headed to verizon.
Im to the point where ill pay more for capped data but actually be on a reliable network something sprint is not in my area.

Wish I could leave, but around here verizon is even worse. They are not actually even able to take customers. Every cell provider sucks around here except US Cellular, but they are only good around here, and suck everywhere else. So I just change my prl and roam on US Cellular, best of both worlds, just have to watch the roaming usage, lol...........
It does suck, but at least you get one more Gold Upgrade in 2012. Assuming you upgrade on or before 10/01/2012. I had them push up my upgrade to this month so I could order my 3D now, instead of waiting for 10/01/11. This is on their website.

Leaving because a company is trying to do more to make money and boost its pretty crappy 3G speeds by eliminating stuff like the premier program is a stupid reason to leave. No other carrier will offer you that either.
Sprint will not care if the few of you getting-mad-becasue-you-don't-get-premier-perks decide to up and leave. You were probably the reason they eliminated it, that and insurance fraud.
Nothing Sprint does short of raising prices to match or become higher than VZW will ever make me leave.

Ummm well I've had Sprint for 8 years never did any sort of fraud or insurance scheme, buy them there are the bad seeds hahaha, And ATT AND VZW is offering early upgrades tho I think It's for iPhone users only tho.
Basically Sprint is going against everything they've said so far, it'll be time when they take out unlimited data as Dan Hesse said himself It's possible. And believe me the horrible 3G speeds I definitely see it as Iive in NYC and speeds is HORRIBLE!!!!

Got mines the other day. Read it and through it in the trash. I dont care about any of that. If I'm not able to get my upgrade, I just purchase full price if I want it that bad (know I'm going to have to do if the Nexus Prime comes to us lol). Simple as that. Signal is not the greatest in my neighborhood, but once out, I'm good to go. Have a Airave in the home and its serving its purpose so far. Nothing for me to "leave" over. But thats my own personal feelings.

Congrats on getting a Note 2 man! Hopefully we'll still see you around every once in a while.
Mind if I asked where/how you got it?
My upgrade isn't available for a while, and I'm not sure adding a line and then paying the extra 10 bucks a month for it to get the subsidized fee is worth it. What's the most economical way? Is ATT selling it off contract for $599 like they do with most if their phones?
Hey james...Actually me and my wife signed up for AT&T in March 2012...I've had a few problems with my phone...But I called 611 and got through a sales rep...I asked politely since am having some phone issues if could receive a early upgrade...He asked his supervisor and whalaa..The phone is 299.I received the upgrade for my line but not my wifes....(she has a s2) And that was it...I had to use a credit card to put the phone on a hold until it ships then they charge the credit card...Its worth a shot if you had it...the worst they can say is no..But if so..Sell your current device in CL for 300 or 350 and use that for your upgrade..so your not using anything....Try it ..Can't hurt

I'm in the same situation with my RF and SD issues. I'll give it a shot asap.
what kind of sd card do you have?..I just realized mine is a 16gb class 2 sd card...That's a very slow read/write speed ..
There was a sd card fix somewhere I would try First though before deleting anything I'll look for it .
Here is some info on classes of micro sd cards and there read/write speeds I found this...Am getting a faster one for the note2....

I was also having trouble with my Note and finally after speaking to a supervisor, he said I could get any other phone for the upgrade price (except the iphone). I told him I wanted the Note 2. He told me the system would not let him order that since it had not come out yet. This was last Friday. I told him I would wait then. He said he was putting the offer in my case notes. So I plan to call back this Friday and hopefully get the Note 2.

This is a rather long narrative, but it illustrates the inconsistency of dealing with AT&T. I know we have all have read posts in these forums and thought to ourselves that they must be lying, because I tried the same thing, but I did not get that result. So anyway I called this morning to get my upgrade and was told I must have misunderstood, because I had owned my phone for only 8 months and it is impossible to get an upgrade. I said there were supposed to be notes on this, and they said there were, but it was unclear whether it was a standard upgrade or just an early upgrade, and that they were not able to contact the supervisor who I spoke to. They said they still wanted to help and the fourth person I spoke to came up with this elaborate plan. I would add a dummy line for $10 a month and they could have my new phone added to this number. They would give me $150 credit and also credit 6 months of email ($90) so the $10 for the 24 months of my commitment would be a wash. I told him that I did not want any of my plan to change, since much of it is grandfathered rates. He said he could code it so it would stay the same. So right before he was to confirm, he said sorry, I would have to change to a family plan. I said no, and asked him why he could code in this complicated plan, but couldn't do some code for an upgrade. He said he couldn't and after a 2 hour phone conversation I was back at square one. So this afternoon I called back to find out what it would cost me to discontinue service and decided I would switch to another carrier and get a new Note 2. The guy asked me why I was canceling my service, I told him and he said he looked at my account and I have really been put through the wringer. He said he could help, and I said I have heard that line before. About ten minutes later he came back on the line said he had authorized an upgrade and for my inconvenience will deduct $50 from the price and charge me $249.99. He also said he will throw in free priority shipping and I will receive it Monday. After giving him my credit card number and thanking him he said wait, I see your last statement has just come out, to keep you as a valued customer, we will pay that also, I am marking that as paid right now. You could have knocked me over with a feather. As I was typing this, I received my email confirmation that it has already shipped. What a crazy deal.
