Hi altogether,
i have an SGS2 and got an ofer to upgrade firmware via kies. I didnt flash or root anything with this phone yet.
After flashing the phone via kies i only get the problem picture: Phone-yellowtriangle-PC. AFAIK this is the sign you get, when the bootladers are corrupted. Am i right?
NEvertheless download mode is accessable, so i downloaded a stock firmware from this site and tried to flash it via odin. It connects, starts to flash, but wont go further than SBL1 for over 10 minutes. then i stopped flashing. I tried the same with just the kernel and it flashed correctly, and the phone restarts, but just to the SGS2-screen with a yellow triangle at the bottom. No further for over 30 minutes, so i canceled that too...
Any suggestions, how i can rescue the phone? Data is not important, i just want to get it running again...
try to use the files from the next thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
edit:
in addition try to preform a full wipe if the data is not important (will delete all data including the contacts)
Also make sure NO Kies related processes are running (Taskmanager -> "End Process" everything that even remotely sounds like anything containing "Kies").
Connect phone to another USB port and do not use a USB hub, connect the phone directely to the PC.
Maybe that helps a bit....
Thank you for your fast answer, but that is the guide i used first to flash a stock firmware. I maybe should have mentioned it. And thats the way it didnt work.
Just the single kernel worked out to cause a little positive result. But only seeing the start screen (not even bootlogo, and no further) is not what a phone should do.

Don't use kies, its rubbish, when this is fixed just use ODIN Use the method in intratechs thread in the dev forum, using Odin

Hope someone can help. Recovery is accessable too?
As it was Kies i would take to a service centre .

i just build myself a JIG, reseted the counter and will send it to service now....
nevertheless TY for all your help and fast answers....
How can a global player like Samsung really keep crappy software like KIES on the market for such a long time??? Did it ever work???

Hello,
I've got the same problem but it seems I can't go into download mode. What am I doing wrong? What else can I try?
My SGS2 is not rooted and was on Android 2.3.3. Kies told me there was an update available to android 2.3.4 so I went for it.
But I'm really disappointed, now my phone is completety stuck on this screen with the phone...orange triangle with exclamation mark (warning)...PC.
EDIT : Samsung Kies proposes to do an emergency recovery, but in the end it also fails.
Fortunately, I took a screenshot before upgrading. See attachment.
Please help me.
kind regards,
Andrew

If your phone is not rooted, you still have your warranty, bring it back to the shop and ask for a new one
I bought it an amazon. But I'd prefer to have a solution right now instead of having to complain.
I continued my quest on the net... Apparently, a usb jig might take me out of this screen and back to the download mode. Can somebody confirm this?

One minus Did you follow the Kies recovery instructions .
One turn off and remove battery for a short period .
Two turn on
Three try recovery mode
Four try download mode ..
Five yes USB jig may enable you to get to download mode and from that you can flash a stock Samsung rom .
Six service centre

Thanks JJEgan. I'll try once more and let you know. Assuming that I am able to get in download mode, why should I use a stock kernel and not the normal firmware I had before? Sorry about my question, but this is all new for me.
A USB Jig should be standard equipment for anybody who flashes their Galaxy phone, IMO.

Download Odin, download stock ROM, use Windows Task Manager to kill any Kies-related processes. Then turn off the phone, turn it back on in download mode and flash using Odin. Do not tick repartition and do not use the PIT file if the stock ROM comes with one.
Hi,
Thanks to this forum I managed to bring my SGS2 alive again step by step after that Kies broke it during the android upgrade from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4... Moreover, I am in the official 2.3.4 version now without using Kies!! ;-) Here's my story:
In the end, I was able leave the screen with the "phone..orange warning triangle..computer". and I was able to go in download mode without a usb jig. You have to press the 3 keys (volume down, home, and power on) quite a few seconds without releasing them. And then the download warning menu appears, press volume up to confirm that you want go go in download mode. And I was in "download mode'. Anyway, I will buy a jig ;-)
I tried once more the emergency recovery with samsung Kies without success. Failed.
Then with Odin I had problem. It was stuck at step "setup connection". Kies was not running and was not visible in the system tray. Though in the task manager, I still had 2 Kies* processes. Kiestrayagent.exe and another one starting with Kies and 4 letters (sorry I didn't write it down). I killed both processes. One step further... Then Odin was stuck on step complete(write) operation failed. Never found why. I tried several times, battery in and out again, without success. This was on a Win7 32bit. Latest Kies version.
In the end I installed Odin on another PC Win7 64bits. I had to install Kies also on it otherwise Win7 says "no driver found" when you plug in the usb cable of the SGS2. And on this computer, flashing with Odin worked perfectly.
Thanks again to all people who helped me + also thanks to this super forum where I could find the official firmware I needed after that Kies broke down my phone.

Simple solution:
Read the posts above!

Dear mighty community,
I recently successfully flashed with ODIN (the unsecure Kernel XWKDD) my S2. Everything passed and my phone rebooted.
Upon starting SuperonClick apparently just at the end of rooting the program starts to freeze. "Step 6" couldn't be finalized.
So, of course I had to force close Superoneclick.
Tried to connect with Kies. Nothing. Updated Kies and the "try to look for connection" solution didn't help either. Restarted phone and computer. Still nothing.
Installed Kies on another computer, latest version. My phone still won't be recognized. " solution looking" didn't work.
Tried my luck with superoneclick eventhough no Kies. Program freezes at Connecting to phone now, doesn't even get to "step 6".
Little bummed out of how to finalize root or even reset phone with original software without KIES recognition.
Please, mighty community, help me
kies has been having a few problems from what i have heard..as many have the same questions as you try searching first before you open a thread..anyway a thread similar to yours that dont recognize handsets or firmware is here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285544
dont know if it helps but shows that your not the only one whos having problems with kies..
By the way what was your original firmware?? Cause before it happened to me when i tried rooting and never had it recognised by kies...so i tried to find the kernel that matched the closest to mine and it was recognised and updated the firmware....
But il be honest i dont use Kies anymore and its not useful for me at all...but whats your original firmware and i will help you try to match the one you should flash through odin again
I played a little bit with turning usb debugging on and off several times. I turned USB dubugging off and KIES recognized my phone. Started Superoneclick couldn't get passed the "awaiting connection to phone". Forceclosed superonclick. Closed KIES, turned debugging on, started superoneclick and it got up unitl the point on the picture. Then freeze!
With great foresight I didn't wrote down the kernel version
I only have general information which, I guess, won't help anything:
The buildnumber is:
GINGERBREAD.XWK4
And the kernel version I installied is: [email protected] #2
Right i dont know if this will work but give it a try..i will give you two links..one is for rom and one is for your kernel...
http://www.multiupload.com/LH122I67IU
thats for your kernel stock
http://hotfile.com/dl/116887059/f45e1a7/9100XWKDD_I9100XXKDH_I9100XEUKD1.zip.html
thats for stock rom.
that will unroot you and get you back to stock again...once you done that and you flashed back to stock then try and see what kies says to you...and if your going to root please for the love of god dont connect to kies cause it will not recognise your firmware..but i think you can backup data and transfer your music and stuff
give me a message if you want more help

Three main problem I encounter is an interrupted rooting process. I am able to flash successfully the rom with odin but unable to complete root with superoneclick. It always stops at step 6 no matter what I try. Other machines, rebooting, start with admin rights. simply nothing.
Usb debugging off made kies recognize the phone but still unable to complete root.
I know, I started a thread with different problem and am now facing a new and different one. But I really owe you a lot for the time you put into helping me to figure out my priblem

Hi everyone,
I brought a new galaxy s2 phone about 4 weeks ago and it has spent most of that time soft bricked since I tried to update it to the newest firmware, K14....
I am using windows 7 starter, 32bit. I have installed kies, uninstalled and re-installed kies, tried uninstalling kies and just using the drivers.
Recently I did a clean install of windows, installed kies, as more drivers seem to be recognized and downloaded odin v1.85. I restart the computer, start task manager end all processes that say kies, run odin as a administrator, put the tar file in pda, only auto reboot is selected. I then plug in the phone, in download mode, wait for yellow box and press start and the process only goes as far as boot.bin.
I have tried all of my usb ports and the only difference is the number of the modem installed driver and how far along odin gets. With two ports it only goes as far as setup connection which was as far as anything went before I re-installed windows. I have replaced the usb cable and made sure the phone battery is fully charged. The phone was put into usb debugging mode before it was bricked. I have attached a picture of what drivers get installed when I plug in the phone. The firmware I am attempting to flash is the uk 3 version off the firmware page of this website.
Please can somebody give me the solution it is driving me nuts!
Sorry for waffling but I figure you need to know what I've tried so that I don't waste anybodies time.
Thanks guys
Did you try a different stock rom? Did you try a different pc? Or if you want to, flash a CF-root kernel. Then boot in recovery and flash a rom of your choice.
The flashcounter will start and stock roms can't be flashed this way (at least as far as I know).
Is your phone a I9100 model?
I ask this to make sure you are trying to flash the correct firmware for your device.

Hi Lenny,
Yh, i have tried it on my desktop which runs 7 home premium. Clean install with same results. Tried the K14 firmware a few times but that never got any further than setup connection. Don't understand the rest of your post sorry. Can you do a flash for dummies thing? And is there a firmware you would recommend trying?
@ aceofclubs -the box says i9100 and so does the sticker in the back.
@ JJEgan - the first cable I used was the one in the box and while the one I have replaced by ebay, they had good feedback. The K14 firmware was given to be by a user of the galaxy s2 that he had successfully flashed with.
Does the phone look to have installed correctly, the guy who gave me the firmware said he had abd appear in device manager, which I haven't got. Also after the phone is finished installing drivers if I click in the system tray, the green icon that shows devices that are present is not there and neither is the phone but if I go into device manager samsung composite device is.

No you dont need a ADB neccesarily for flashing. ADB (Android Debug Bridge) is a tool that comes with the Android SDK that allows you to control and interface with your Android device. Well do u have the phone specifications before bricking it, like Model No, Built, CSC, Kernal Etc.
First try to uninstall Kies and Install the latest version, so that you have the latest drivers.
Check the Intratech thread on Stock ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278) and download the correct rom.( I presume you have I9100 Intenational Version of S2). Open Odin 1.85, do not change any options, brownse and put the stock rom u downloaded into the PDA section and click on start button, you should be good.PM me if you have any issues.
The above didn't work. Here's what I got:

AS you have the yellow box in Odin you have the drivers all the firmware in that link works .
run odin as a administrator, put the tar file in pda, only auto reboot is selected. I then plug in the phone, in download mode, wait for yellow box and press start
Lets do this the right way just to be sure . Open Odin put the tar file in PDA
go to download mode at first screen download mode on phone follow instruction ( vol up from memory ) after next screen connect Samsung USB cable to phone and PC .

Thanks, think I've done that anyway but, just to check, what do you mean by next screen?
The screen when you are in download mode and press volume up.

So close! I plugged the phone in and got as far as cache with the green progress bar showing just the tiniest bit. Left it for over an hour but the bar didn't move at all! Encouraged I restarted the computer to try again only to find that now the computer and odin won't recognize the phone until I uninstall and reinstall kies and always hangs on cache. I restarted in the first place as the phone never shows in the system tray. Sorry to be a bore but have you any idea why everyone else can plug in and flash and my machines refuse to! I welcome any ideas you have. Thank you.
Instead of Odin, you could try Heimdall. Maybe that will work for you.

hey hope everyone had a good christmas and new year. Still no joy, where do I get PIT files to flash with the newest version of heimdall to go with our firmware? The newest version won't let me add files until I enter a PIT. I tried version 1.1 but I couldn't get it to recognise a compatible device.
On the odin front: I thought I'd cracked it. It started flashing, took hours but I had half a green progress bar and then it just seem to freeze. Also this seems replicable a few times and then I get stuck at setup connection again. I then have to do a system restore to get it to flash to the furthest point again. Does this give anyone any clues? Or does anyone know of any heimdell packages I could try? And the long shot, any way of getting firmware on to an sd card and flashing that way when a phone is soft bricked?
Sorry if I'm annoying you but there has to a way round this. I brought a rooted one to use while this is sorted, love the phone but need to know I can update and be able to sort it out if things go wrong.
Thanks again for your help and suggestions.

Hi there
Check your usb connections please, one of the most common and unmentioned problems with ODIN is that it doesnt like being connected through hubs or non usb2 ports, i failed with odin quite a few times, until i disconnected my phone from the usb hub and connected it directly to the pc usb2 port, everything was fine after that.
Odin doesnt usually fail, what files are you flashing, is the firmware a 1 file package or multiple files with a .pit file??
If its 1 file, make sure you untick repartition.
Odin is solid, i would ask you to go away and check all the above, use odin 1.83 which is the best version i found, then try again, also check your lead, sometimes cheap usb leads are designed for charging and not syncing.
Good luck
---------- Post added at 12:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:45 PM ----------
also the black screen mode is because the flash failed, you need to re enter download mode, and reflash until you get a pass, if it fails again, check md5 sums or download a generic s2 firmware and try again, its not bricked dont worry, as long as you do it right it will be fine.
thank for ur info.
anyway to get the hell out of the black scren??..
i connot re-enter the download mode... keep stuck in the black screen with a phone connecting to a computer with a yellow triangle warning sign!..
Can u get into clockworkmod recovery?
Press Home+volume up+ power key until you get to cwm recovery.
And yes you probably connected your phone through a hub or usb1 port.
If nothing else works you'll need a jig to restart into download mode. Try and look for the jig thread on general sgs2 forum for free locations.
That's forced download mode I.E. it's forcing you to flash something. Get a stock rom from Samfirmware or Checkfus & flash it with Odin.
Absolutley these guys are right, even if your flash has failed you should still be able to enter download mode, are you sure you cant, VOLUME DOWN, MIDDLE BUTTON AND POWER BUTTON, keep them all held down and it will boot to DL Mode, every time mine got a fail i still got to dl mode no problem.
Failing that yer, get a jig, usually they come from singapore, so if you cant wait that long pop to an electronics store, buy the resistors you need and a micro usb plug and make one, i made one yesterday and it cost me £1.40 to make, although its a makeshift for emergencies, it will do until the one ive ordered arrives.
Keep trying dl mode, no reason to not get into it.

Also, OP, make sure you are flashing an I9100G firmware, and NOT an I9100 firmware. Likely that was the cause of your predicament in the first place, as that is the common cause of this screen being reached.

tried to flash the phone from ODIN and failed, most probably he done it wrong. The only thing the phone does is displaying an icon in the middle of the screen with a phone and a PC and an exclamation point in between them. I can`t get it to enter in download mode (volume down+home+power) and I can`t start it eather. It just stays at that icon. Kies is not recognizing the phone although the drivers are installed. When I pluged the phone for the first time in the PC it automatically instaled 2 drivers and that was it. Is it bricked? I haven`t seen this before.
The phone is an SGS 2 model GT-I9100G, ssn I9100GGSMH.

Depends on what you have already tried flashing since you originally got into this mess in the first place.
If you started blindly flashing stuff for any which device, it's possible you have borked your device to the point where your PC will no longer detect it.
Say, if you tried flashing a Fascinate ROM or similar to a Vibrant.
I'm just guessing that's what happened, because you started this thread in the Fascinate forum.
The Fascinate and the Vibrant are two completely different models of phones. The Fascinate is the Verizon variant of the Galaxy S, and is a CDMA phone. You have a Telus version of the Vibrant, which is a GSM phone.
So if you flashed something out of the Fascinate forum to your SGH-T959D Vibrant, you likely caused this issue yourself. And why are you in the I9100 forum trying to solve your problem?
Go to the Vibrant forum for your problem with your Vibrant phone.

It had the latest update which I cannot find an Odin for. Am I screwed or is there any way to unbrick? Is there an Odin for a similar model like the i9200 or something that will flash to this? The sim card slot was trashed and didn't work so it was wifi only so if I could get a firmware from another device that would work with at least wifi, that'd be enough. And btw, trying to go to recovery gives the same error. Just an FYI, my internet is horribly slow, or I would just download random firmwares from similar models and try to odin them myself because I have nothing to lose but yea, I'm looking at around 6 hours for each Odin firmware download. Oh yea, forgot to mention also, I've tried Kids but it won't work. But I think it fails because it's trying to flash a firmware before the one that was on it I'm pretty sure.
Hi diesburg,
I was in similar situation with my SGH-I527M, the same error message and I fixed.
I guess 'I've tried Kids but it won't work.' would be KIES.
KIES can definitely fix your mega. Install it from samsung website. There is KIES, KIES Lite, KIES 3.
I used KIES for my mega. KIES will install a stock samsung rom on your phone and the carrier spec modem will be OK too.
- Put your mega in download mode and connect to PC. Start KIES on your PC.
- in KIES klick on firmware update. See if KIES auto connect to your mega. Most probably not.
- You'll have to provide the model number and the S/N number manually.
- The model number has to be properly given like: 'SGH-I527M'. Make sure you type accurate - upcase/lowcase etc.. NO 'i527'.
- You can find S/N under the battery on a sticker.
- Than KIES start download the necessary things to your PC first. It could take about 30-40 min.
- AFTER download finished you will see your download bar moving on your mega screen.
- If it stops during download, try again from the beginning. I had to do it 3 times to get through the whole process. Do not give up if it stops during download, repeat.
... and pls stop flashing random firmwares.
FYI: you can have proper recovery for the mega. There is excellent philzTouch and also TWRP available /see CM13/ TEMASEK / BLISS / XENON for mega 6.3 under MOST ACTIVE TOPICS (Silesh.Nair)
Good luck.

Hi drew,
Sorry for late answer...
I don't know for sure, but after a quick Google search I'd say 95% YES, KIES wipes all.
1. If you can access custom recovery, just mount up the drive of your data and save to PC.
2. Did you try dirty flash stock rom?
Hope it helps.
