[Q] Porting 3.2 from Xoom - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if any devs had given this a shot? It seems to have been done for the Iconia tab. I was thinking about trying to work on this tonight, theres a lot of performance enhancements in the 3.2 system from what I have heard in the xoom forums

Sounds awesome, I can be your beta tester
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App

Im also working on this right now as i am a complete newbie to dev. well see if it work. im doing a nand backup right now and will be flashing afterwards
No go: I always get a E:error /sdcard/update.zip (status 0)
i think my script is messed up

Wed need a few things to get this rolling:
- A deodexed ROM and have CWM version made http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1165998
- Bonsai or Pershoot or Supercurio builds a 3.2 kernel from source (do we even have that yet?)
- Is 3.2 for XOOM a vanilla?
Are there any hardware difference such as wifi, BT, screen, sound that are different between the A500, XOOM and Tab 10.1? Also, just like HTC, there might be specific framework that works with only the XOOM and nothing else.
EDIT: From what I can see, there is definitely a different kernel for the 3.2 and not compatible to 3.1. Therefore without the proper kernel support, things WILL break. The CWM for the XOOM needs an external SD card and modifying the script might work. I will have a look into it.

I was able to get it to install but would not boot.
You are correct only 3.2 kernels work. Tiamat now has 2 kernals for xoom. One pre 3.2 and on post.
At this point building a kernal from scratch mixing and matching they're 3.2 kernal with our drivers is the only way

At this moment, I think Bonsai has the latest kernel using nVidia's source. I will post a message in his forum and see if he is interested in building his next customer OS from the XOOM 3.2 CWM.

I just want to share my appreciation and anticipation of a ROM with 3.2

Yeah, I gave their patched update.zip a glance last night and it doesnt look good in terms of 3.1 kernel support. I am still going to try a couple of things over the weekend, but we will probably need pershoot/randy's help in working out a 3.2 supported kernel. For now though... going to just use pershoot's 3.1 kernel, and try and merge their system.img with what we have for stock 3.1 on the GT. I'll report back if that has any luck

I messaged Randy and he will have a look at it when he has time.
In the mean time, I took a quick look at the APP folders and seems that there are many Moto apps on there that need to be stripped out of before it can be usable.

Ah ok, if there is kernel patching involved then I'm definitely not messing around with this . Let me know if I can help in any way.
Good luck, can't wait to see the results!

Nice to see doc working on this. Going to open some kitchen space?

Edited, new base

Is it stable at this point? Need some help around the kitchen? I'd love to learn my way around these ROMs.

awesome doc is here.

Damn your teasing ...

Doc is in the house! I've worked with him before, and I have confidence in him!

Any updates?

[Q] VegaComb 3.2 port?

Is anyone planing on attempting to port over the new version of VegaComb. I would try however I'm not quite that good at making roms yet?
I thought it would work without needing much done, but haven't tried it...
I tried flashing the gtabcomb 1.1 and 1.2 over to my viewsonic 10s and it did not work.
if anyone can pull this off the gtab will have full hardware acceleration on hc. I hope someone port this!
I always thought the Advent Vega and the G-Tablet were nearly identical devices. How the hell are they running perfect Honeycomb 3.2 with full flash and hardware acceleration and we're still stuck on Honeycomb 3.0 with bugs galore??

So how hard would it be to look at one of our honeycomb kernels to make changes on their kernel to get it to boot?

You'd probably need a good idea of low level programming languages and a good understanding of how the hardware is setup to interact with each other.

Well to install Vegacomb 3.2, you have to install Moddedstock 1.10 v2 first. I tried it on my Gtablet but it fails during NVlash cmb script right at the end. Without this Vegacomb 3.2 rom will not install.
I was under the impression that the Viewsonic Gtablet and the Advent Vega tablet were the same units basically, but a poster replied that no Vega roms will work on the Gtablet when I asked for some help.
So now I'm not sure. But if anyone can figure out how to get Moddedstock 1.10 v2 to work then Vegacomb 3.2 could possibly install.
Hoping.....

[KERNEL] Dirty Kernel - Nexus One Port

Hi there
I'm Chaosz-X, known from some kernel work for the HTC Desire, and my custom ROM, and one of the first people (with Texasice, Sandvold, and Shaky153) to get ICS running on the Desire. Since it wouldn't be a bad idea at all to update the kernels of our devices to 3.0, as that is the recommended version for 4.0.3 of ICS, I decided to work ono that.
I took the Tiamat 8x50 source as a base, and applied all the changes of 2.6.39.4. Once this version is up and running, we should be able to download a brand new version of the kernel as 1 patchset, and apply it within a couple of minutes. And more importantly, it will make the work on porting of drivers (e.g. HWA) easier as our kernel isn't a bottleneck anymore. I just finished uploading the source code of this 2.6.39 kernel, and with a few modifications, it should run on the Nexus One too I think. So here is the link:
http://api2.ge.tt/0/8XflAuC/0/blob/download
The file in the root called 'RENAME THIS TO (DOT)config', you can remove it. It is the .config of the Desire. Instead, copy \arch\arm\config\tiamat_mahimahi_defconfig to the root of the folder, and rename it to .config
Edit the MAKEFILE in the root to redirect to the place of the toolchain. The line that has to be edited for this is:
CROSS_COMPILE ?= arm-eabi-
Get Linaro Toolchain for Android, and replace this arm-eabi- with the location of the Linaro toolchain. Enter the terminal, get root access, and type:
make menuconfig
And press EXIT, and YES to save. Then enter
make -j2 -i (if you have 2 cores, if you have 4, you can try -j4)
And it should compile. It will tell you where it put the WiFi 4329 drivers, and you should find a zImage in /arch/arm/boot/. I never checked how the Nexus One has to be flashed with a new kernel, but this zImage is the one you need to get on your device (pretty sure some people here can take care of this ).
And then, report in this topic how it works, what works and what doesn't, etc. I haven't tried compiling this yet as I don't have my Linux machine here atm, so you may run into errors and it can stop compiling: if so, tell me.
(and make sure you got all the dependencies to build a kernel, if you don't know which one you need, Google it)
Sounds promising. Is everything from desire thread working for N1?
You mean in the kernel? This kernel is based on Tiamat, and that was the one we were using for ICS, and only tethering through USB (natively) and real HWA without hacks wasn't working, and I applied modifications from 2.6.39 source to get the kernel to new standards, so it should work better on ICS. I don't know whether it really fixes the issue, because I haven't tested it yet (don't have a N1 around here, and I don't have a Linux machine with me here atm).
I hope to update it once again to Linux 3.0 kernel in one or two weeks, along with modifications from CodeAurora which got everything running on the DHD too. But for now, this kernel may already fix the issues, but we don't know until we flash 'em

Sounds very promising, Chaos-X!
What we would need now, however, is for someone to pack this into a boot.img (or flashable zip) for easy installation.

PHP:
include/linux/types.h:156: error: redefinition of typedef 'dma_addr_t'
/home/zyr3x/android/kernel/222/arch/arm/include/asm/types.h:23: note: previous declaration of 'dma_addr_t' was here
no make
Remove the declaration on line 156 then, seems pretty obvious to me ;p And make sure you're building with -i
this not help, mass errors
This news is great to hear. If I read correctly, hopefully a 3.0 kernel will be on it's way. Finally we will be able to get ICS in full hardware acceleration mode! Long live the N1 and the devs here on XDA!
No luck compiling I assume? :/

- If you are able to build a zImage, I believe, it is pretty simple to convert it to boot.img. Android provides a host side utility mkbootimg.
- It is build during Android compilation process. It takes the zImage, ram-disk and concatenates them to form boot.img which has a header to identify where kernel starts, where ram-disk starts etc embedded into the boot.img.
Its syntax is:
mkbootimg --kernel <path_of_zImage>/zImage --ramdisk <path_of_ramdisk>
The only thing that needs to be checked is, will the default ramdisk (from any working boot.img) work with new kernel?
From Desire topic:
Think it's almost done... The BCM4329 module caused an error, which took some time to fix, and atm there's an issue in 80211 functionality, and when that's done I think we're pretty close to getting final image

Still working on it
This is so exciting, is this all that's standing in the way of full Hardware acceleration?
Well, theoretically no. You could port over all stuff from a 3.0 kernel to a 2.6 kernel regarding HWA, and it could simply work. However, ICS is recommended to work with a 3.0 kernel, and a later version of Android maybe won't even work anymore with a 2.6 kernel, so the earlier we move on to the latest kernel, the better. Even if HWA wouldn't be working in this new build, it certainly will be much easier to fix it, because the entire environment is now ready for a patch for a 3.0 kernel.
Example:
You want the HWA fix from 3.0 in 2.6. You port it (which takes time), and then you see it depends on something else > port that over too. Oh wait, that conflicts with this old snippet of code, fix that...etcetera.
In our new build: the fix is already there and working, or we can simply fix it once, and don't have to worry about 50 other files which got broken dependencies.
BTW, build finished for Desire, uploading it now. If it boots for a Desire, I'm compiling it for the Nexus One too today or tomorrow. Though I will need someone from your community with a CM7 running device, but more info on that coming

[Rom Port] [WIP] AOKP based on CM9 Alpha

This is a port of AOKP.
/// I'm having a few issues with building from source, and wont put too much time into it until the 3.0 kernel has progressed a bit more. It's making it a little harder to test on the 8GB also. That's not to say that the devs aren't doing a great job because they are. I will try to get some more ports up when I get the time.
Be aware that any and all issues that are present in AOKP and in the current CM9 for the Nook will be here and then some.
CM9 Thread : Currently using Alpha 0.03
The AOKP Port used the build for the Kindle Fire ("Otter")
Remember that this was just for fun and not to expect any major fixes from me, also that this is less functional than any current CM9 build.
If anyone wants to help out feel free. And if any one finds any other issues post and I'll update the Op
The instructions will be the same as CM9.
The 8GB uses a different recovery and instructions can be found Here

Thanks to everyone involved with with development on the Nook without you I wouldn't have a CWM to flash with or a CM9 to port from (especially getting it working on the 8GB too).

Could we have a link to the original rom thread? Is this it?

Flash it like you would Cm9 if you have a gingerbread based rom. If you have Cm9 simply flash over it.

I guess that was the thread for it although I didn't go there I just downloaded from the aokp server. Alot of mods may somewhat work, but remember that they are usually device specific so more issues may arise if you flash them.
And yes it should be what ever kernel and hardware files that cm9 is using as that is where they were all pulled from.
Rotation
I haven't tested it but about half down on the build.prop it says ro.sf.hwrotation=270 when it should say 360 instead of 270.
Edit:It works fixes the touches and rotation.
If Keith puts that fix in the .zip I'll try it. I'm exited for a new ROM to flash!

Yeah no daily driver here either, running CM7 until I can run video and probably until the kernel gets farther along.
I assuming that governors and different cpu states (at least ocing), aren't supported in the kernel.

Against forum rules to post the "best" ROM. But my preferred ROM is CM 10.1 4.2.2. If you want a more stable version I suggest CM10. I just like using the most up to date ROM is why I use 4.2.2 build.
Pick whatever you want. Head over to the iamafanof website to find the ROM of your liking. He has CM, Paranoid Android and Xylaon. All do the same thing with slight "extra goodies".

I'd suggest Succulent's CM10.0 build dated 12/31 http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/cm10-0-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet/.
You can try running his various builds off SD first before picking one to install internally.
I second CM10 dated 1231. I have that on a NT used by a 9-year old, and it's doing its job beautifully.
When I tried higher builds on my NT stock browser has been a bit glitchy, and there has been a few minor problems while streaming video. Works flawless in CM10 1231 build!
(I visit a pretty poorly coded web site quite often, and I'm sure many problems are due to the poor site, but it doesn't alter the fact that it works well on CM 10 an not on higher builds!)

You're using a VERY old ROM. Assuming you have it internal flashed all you need to do is copy the .zip ROM and GAPPS files (that you can download here) onto your SD card.
You have to preform a factory reset/wipe data, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache. So if you have data on your device you want to keep make sure to back it up.
Once you do that then install .zip from SD card and select the ROM and Gapps. Reboot your tablet and TADDA, CM10 is internal installed on your device!
I have some suggestions!

Hi, I've rooted a friends NT wth 1.4.3 using the SD card method. I am looking to change this thing to a traditional Android Tablet with Android ICS or higher. Any idea what is the best and most stable rom? How about Xylaon?

The most stable version of CyanogenMod is CM7(Gingerbread)
If you want the second most stable, that would have to be CM9 because CM10 still has a minor crash/sleep*STUCK* bug and some versions of it just dont work period. I have the NOOK Tablet 16GB with TWRP Installed, but having the "Unable to mount /data1 partition" error but will shortly be fixing that and i will be testing like a champ once again ^_^!!! *Im fixing my problem tonight before i go on a 13 hour trip

*ADD ON* CM9 IS A VERSION THAT IT JUST LIKE CYANOGENMOD10
Not meaning to yell but Android Ice Cream Sandwich has almost all of the features Jellybean has in store. but Jellybean supports the NOOK Color without the problems of the NOOK Tablet<--Kernel Difference + Hardware Difference(Thats the only problem with Android Jellybean
Cm10 was made into a stable version with its final release. I run it with no problems. CM10.1 however is very buggy. Still crashes and runs slow.

You don't need cwm recovery 6 to flash it. You can use recovery 5.*.*.*. (Latest version of 5).
You can replace the recovery.img if you want with the newest 6.*.*.*. The newest version is red. But you dont need to replace it.
thanks it works ill play around with it see how it goes

Evervolv 4.3 - alpha

Hi all, As I said, here comes the first version of android 4.3 for the x10. This is based on the evervolv ROM.
The binaries can be found in evervolv 4.3 folder.
https://www.wuala.com/CMX10-Releases/?key=CMX10Team
BUGS
NO CWM delivered with kernel
NO CHARGEMON
The WLOD that because famous with android 4.3
Maybe a lot more.
Install
Copy ROM on your SD card.
Wipe Data and Cache
Get into CWM and install ROM.
Flash the kernel.ftf using flashtool
This is an early version, I might not have time to work on it a lot. If someone wants the sources before their released, PM me.
Scritch
PS: Forgot the little disclaimer.
No warranty about this. I can't be blamed if somethings goes wrong or if phone is damaged. Use at your own risk.

Unfortunately still the old 2.6.29.
Good job! But unfortunately we won't be able to achieve the smoothness we want if we can't get out of kernel 2.6.29.
Great job and nice to see you back

Hey
Yes I got it... "just" have problems with display drivers... As scritch released his 4.4.3, I will work harder to make the kernel working... hopfully 4.4.3 bugs would be solved with it...

There's some pretty cool version of JB. The CM10 now has every thing except hardware video encoding/decoding. Everything else is working nicely.
CM10.1 and Everolv 4.2 and 4.3 have an issue with the kernel. But I can't manage to fix it. So we've been working on newer kernel, 2.6.32 but it has a camera issue. And we're trying to port a newer kernel, but it's not that easy.

Yeah WLOD, like for the 4.2.2, it's a shame, otherwise I like the Rom.

Yeah, only place when You change something with GPS options is "Location access" in "Personal"
Some other options i cant find - for example i cant change icns on status bar - wifi, sync or something else - i dont know chow too change it ;p
But ROM can be nice in the future i like it too in alpha stage its better then other in beta ;p
One more thing - is it possible to restore USB charge or something like this to kernel? Becouse i read You remowe this options from source code and from 4.X kernel we cant use other then Sony charger - i have Philips charger for 2 phones but cant use it.
