So I am wondering how my new GT will work with my one google account and my Evo.
For example, when I fist started up the GT it asked if I wanted to sync my google account, which I did. I then noticed that it put a bunch of my existing apps from my Evo onto my GT. So I now assume that any app that I have purchased on Evo in my Google account can be installed on my GT & Evo, is this correct?
Are there any disadvantages to using the same google/gmail account on both my GT and Evo? I would hope that using one account on both devices would mesh well and not cause any issues.
I was then also wondering if I should setup a new google/gmail account and leave my gmail account off just in case I let my wife/daughter use the GT. At first I liked the idea of using one account on both but now maybe not, but then I would have to buy all new apps again?
Guess I am just looking for some opinions/ideas on a good way to use both my Evo and GT together.
Thanks
Using one google account between both of your devices won't cause any problem whatsoever. I've been using the same google account on my phone and my tab (first 7" and now 10.1") for about 6 months without issue.
The Android Market (and Amazon App Store) track by both account and by device. I've managed my Evo and two Tabs under the same Gmail account without any issues.
Its the best way to do it. I have a personal email address "****@zakeen.com" that I send through gmail account and I use the gmail program on all my devices.
I was at the airport waiting for someone to come out and I had my phone there, I was writing an email to someone and the person I was waiting for came out, I just turned my phone off. It saves it automatically in the draft folder and later arriving at the hotel I turned my Tablet on and the email I half wrote was on the top of the Gmail account and I just had to finish the last sentence and send it. Did not have to go back to the same device.
Also I think for the future it will be better, like renting movies and that. I dont know much about it but I am sure it will be linked to account then rather device. So you have access to all your things related to your account for easy syncing.
Its all in the cloud. You could have your singular google account synced across as many devices as you'd like I think. If you go to market.android.com you can choose which device you install apps on.
Thanks for the responses everyone, it def seems best to just use one google account. Unless of course you don't want your significant other to see your emails and gtalk messages. Not that I have anything to hide!
Oh yeah, what about GTalk? Will IMs go to both the phone and GT or is that only one login at a time?
You could definitely have IMs go to both devices simultaneously if you're logged in on both.

Hi everyone,
New to the forum... My Hero's on it's way so I've been reading about rooting, etc, on this great forum I found . Never had an HTC before so not sure I really know what rooting is, but I'll soon give it a go and bust the phone or end up being able to do bluetooth file transfer!
Now to my question! I have my email all through my own domain, but run by/hosted by Google using google apps.
So I use a Googlemail webmail interface to collect my emails, but access it through mail.mydomain.com and get emails to [email protected] . My calendar works similarly.
Will this work with all the built in functionality of the Hero that ties in to Gmail accounts? Do I need to do a hack to do this, or will it work out of the box?
Thanks,
James
I use apps for domains too. Works perfectly except for buying software from the Market - had to open another account for that annoyingly.
Well, I've just recieved my Hero, and under my Google account, I entered my Google apps details, eg,
[email protected] and my relevant password. No luck It didn't recognise it. Off to do a bit of googling on the subject now, but any help on how to get it to sync with a Google Apps for Domains account greatly appreciated...
I can definitely guarantee you that it works. I use my domain with Google Apps for Domains, and the only thing that didn't work was paid apps on the market - even then, it knew that this was because I had an apps account and it asked me for a "normal" gmail account and would allow me to buy apps.
I suggest a full reset may be in order.
Regards,
Dave
Cheers
I just tried a hard reset and this time it worked when I entered the details as I booted up
Not sure if it's relevant but this is the "brown" HTV Hero from www.mobiles.co.uk
Loving the phone so far, really pleased it works with domains as that would have been a deal breaker!
Did I understand right, that the Hero asked for a normal gMail-Account in addition to the gApps-Account, if you want to buy software from the marketplace?
Or do I have to completely change to a normal gMail-Account if I want to buy something?
I'd like to keep my gApps-Account and have no problem to open an additinal gMail-Acc just for Marketplace.

Yes, this is correct. You still sign into the market using your gApps-Account, but you can't link a credit card to that account in the Market. In this case, all it does is asks you to authenticate yourself with a regular gMail account when checking out - all your apps are still linked in the Market to your regular gApps account.

Dave
I got a 10.1 tab last night and it's great. I have one issue maybe you can help me with regarding the market and apps. My wife and I both have android phones and we are sharing the tablet. When I set it up and put in our email addys I went into the market and it was downloading all of the app we have on our phones. Cool feature if I'm replacing my phone, but not for a shared device that I don't need to be identical to our phones. Is there a way to not make it do this? The thought I have is to create a dummy account for both of us but then it seems like it will be weird to use gmail app and stuff like that.
Thanks!
wait what?
Are both you using the same Google Account?
No shared accounts. I put in both of our gmails under, settings then accounts. Now we can switch between the 2 accounts in the gmail app but I hate that the market downloaded each of our phone apps.
It's because there is a setting when you first ran the market or setup your gmail on the tablet. It's the option where you allow Google to download previously purchased apps off the market and because your phone uses the same account, Google assumes you want the same apps, if the app is compatible with tablet. Remember purchase can be paid or free apps. It won't sync again like that after the first time unless you decide to reformat and you don't uncheck that box again.
Hi,
I have Android 2.3 on my phone, like most here. But I'm not familiar with the inner workings of Android.
When I started it up, I created a dummy account. It's the one used for Android Market, so Google uses that account to track installed programs and purchased programs. When I did that, it looks like the whole OS got associated with that account - the first time I used that gmail program, it also logged into that dummy account.
I do have a personal gmail account that I want my emails, but I also don't want all my google searches and location tracked to my personal account. Not doing anything illegal, just don't want the big brother looking over me.
How can I make the gmail app use a separate account than the one associated with the OS?
It may make you feel more comfortable, but I promise you Google already knows more about you than you want them too. regardless of how many accounts you associate or don't associate with your phone. All of this info ends up on big Gs servers one way or another. They keep your phones unique ID and the email addresses associated with it - so all they need to do is query your ID and find both of your gmail addresses and call them both "you".
But to your point. You can add both accounts to the phone, but the "First" account will always be treated as the primary account--Getting all of your search history and what not.
In Gmail you can tap the email address in the top right hand corner to switch inboxes/account being viewed.
Hi Guys,
So after my droid X shattered i picked up a Galaxy S3 off swappa and i love it. Until now... I have 2 gmail accounts currently. I am phasing one out since it is under a sub domain of gmail. The non -profit i worked for used gmail to handle all customer and technician info and emails. It allowed us to avoid renting a mail server or paying a ton.
Long story short its got a @pinelink ending. The problem is that email address's on gmail with a diff sub domain cannot get a lot of the features and add on's that a std gmail address get. So i created a new email on gmail, synced with old info and have the messages being forwarded to new email.
Problem starts when i try to add both accounts to my S3, If i add one, say the old email. works fine, And all my games and apps recognize the old address so i dont loose everything. When i add the second account, after the setup wizard where it ask's you is it new or existing? address and password, and click add arrow, POOF. Phone drops BOTH emails like they were never even there. If i don't add 2 its fine.
Doesn't matter what order i add them or what i do after. If just immediately says account added, check under accounts and nothing is there.
Any help is appreciated. Also i needed to know if there is a easy way to root the Verizon version yet? i was under the impression Verizon locks the boot-loader.
Specs:
Verizon S3 SCH-I535
Android 4.3

Unrooted, To scarred to try.
Got my new Pixel XL and everything is great, except none of my Google App Data is syncing (most notably my saved WiFi networks because that's easiest to check). Additionally, my Google Keyboard personal dictionary will not show up on my phone. I have no sync errors, all sync settings/accounts have been checked, forcefully synced, removed/re-added, etc. Standard troubleshooting stuff.
The issue is not just the Pixel. Two weekends I wiped my Nexus 5X and gave it to my buddy so he could take Android for a test drive (considering the jump from iOS). I use my Nexus 6 for my G Suite work phone, so while waiting for my Pixel to ship I just created a second profile on the Nexus 6 for my personal account. I experienced the same sync issue there as well. I chocked it up to running multiple profiles (I've heard Google Keyboard struggles with multiple profile dictionaries, especially business profiles) and just sucked it up until the Pixel arrived.
Well now here it is and I'm still not syncing, so does anyone know how I can fix this? I've never had an issue in the past, I'd log in on a new phone and all of my stuff would be waiting for me.
Side note: I spent an hour chatting with Pixel support this morning about this issue, even though it's not a Pixel issue, I thought I'd see what the support is all about. What a joke.
I'm wondering if this has anything to do with Nougat. Android Backup Service has never failed me until Nougat. Starting to lose hope that my data is recoverable.
I have similar problem with Google keyboard sync, primary I use personal Gmail account and as secondary Gmail work account. When I remove work account and reinstall Google keyboard sync start to work until I add Gmail work account... I don't understand where's the problem with it...

Interesting data point.
I don't think the issue is Nougat. I added a few words/shortcuts to my dictionary on my Pixel XL, and then ran the sync on my car's Android 5.1 head unit and the words did not sync. (Neither do my saved networks). I don't know how to get support on this. No one knows what I'm talking about most of the time, there's no official support;I can't just call up Google. Pixel support is really only good for helping me figure out how to power on my phone. I was hoping they might have some connections but it's just typical lackluster support.

It's because Google Keyboard doesn't support sync with GSuite accounts But I don't know how use two accounts, one GSuite and second free and connect the app to the free account. Any idea?
BTW f*ck Google when it takes more usability to free users that to paying...
