Hey guys/and the few gals here,
If im to unlock my bootloader and install the leaked version of GB, when it actually is released will i still get the prompt to update my phone? Also is there a way to lock the bootloader again, would it just be flashing back to an older FW thats out or how would it work?
you will get the update much quicker being unlocked because you can guarantee the instant the OTA drops it will be posted everywhere and peopel will be flashing it.
if you dont unlock, it takes weeks to actually get rolled out to each device.
so if you want the OTA fastest, its better to be unlocked.

Once unlocked, always unlocked.
You may get bugged about the update, but I am betting you won't, (lets just say I researched it), if on the leaked 4.5.91.
I would go with Kenneth Penn's 4.5.91/2.3.4 beta 4.5.
so if i unlock NEVER NEVER do OTA updates just come here for it and it wont ask me to do an OTA update or will i keep getting that annoying pop up like every hr?

Not true! 4.1.57 and 4.1.83 came out a couple of days after the SOAK tests for them ended! Timing was about the same as this one is going. I'm betting on a 2.3.* release by end of next week
Also, I have got all my updates the first day they have been released. Very few people wait long for the update to be available. Some do, but many of these people have errors with their IMEI in the databases preventing updates. Also, many of them are modded and don't realize they have to be stock to get updates/upgrades.

Depends...............in some of the previous releases people have been bugged for the OTA after flashing the service sbf to update.
Oh, and for clarification, 2.3.* will be an upgrade, while 4.1.57 and 4.1.83 were updates.
Now, since this voids the warranty on the phone, if im paying for insurance on the phone through ATT and if i unlock the bootloader will they still take it back if anything happens to it??

im curious on this too. If the rumor is true with the OTA gingerbread unlocking the bootloader..will that be considered warranty void?

I may have to return my ATRIX due to Let'sTalk horrible customer service, but I was wondering if there is anyway to re-lock the Bootloader, or to hide the fact that it says, Unlocked. Thank you in advanced
Also, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section, as this is urgent to me and I have yet to see any otherpost relating this topic.
There is another topic like this.
No you can't re-lock and no you can't "hide" the unlock wording. Sorry.

Assume you installed 2.3 using CWM, if that is the case, you can flash the stock 1.8.3. Because the bootloader is not compatible with the unlocked phones, it won't show the "unlocked" text when you turn on the phone. I have tried it when I was trying to get rid if the unlocked text.
The down side is, you won't be able to flash custom ROM until you flash a compatible bootloader.

But downgrading will hard brick the phone.be very very carefully.
Reflash To Stock
Unfortunately, there is no way to relock a bootloader. Hence all of the warnings when you committed
but, if you use 4.5.91 the software at the address below should reinstall the newest stock software...
direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/motosupport/source/SoftwareUpdateSelect.asp?country=USA&language=ENS
be careful because Im not sure how motorola update will react to an unlocked bootloader. Ask around...do so at your own risk.
If you want to try a harder, albeit, safer method, and you are sure that you do not have a phone running 4.1.5.91, you can restore your phone to a factory SBF with this process:
briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-system-boot-file-sbf-leaked
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TRY TO RESTORE A 4.5.91 system to stock with RSD LITE.
To go to any of the blue webaddresses above, copy-paste them into your browser. Sorry, but I am not allowed to post links yet.
I wonder why nobody has created a CWM downgrade for US Atrixes. NFHimself made one for Bell or international users to go to 2.2.2 Bell and it works really well. Pretty much every partition is replaced. Great for masking that your boot loader is unlocked. Someone should probably do that for ATT to make downgrading less risky than flashing an sbf again...

The downgrading and hard brick problem stems from using the OTA update, so you won't hard brick if for example you upgraded with KP's 4.5.91.
You also should be able to flash the 4.5.91 SBF. You just can't downgrade. There are other threads about this.

The reason the fruitcakes were created and deemed safe by the devs were because it didn't touch the BL, which people believe to be the culprit behind the hard bricks. NFhimself was brave enough to testing flashing the BL via cwm in his gobstopper on international phones, but I don't think any other devs are willing to risk hard bricking their phones by testing that theory on US phones.
There also isn't enough "reward" for doing so because if people want to downgrade they can use a fruitcake. The only gain is to get rid of the "unlock" text. But if you were really that concerned about it despite reading all the warnings of this will void you warranty, you shouldn't have unlocked in the first place.

Hi,
One of the reasons I did up a default CWM of 2.2.2 is to have a means of doing a reset after trying all ATT/ORANGE/TELSTRA/MOVIESTAR/etc firmwares out there which may have side effects or accumulated side effects. Hence the inclusion of the stock bootloader and radio and a write of the extra partitions to clean up whatever mix and match leftovers are in there from the various carriers. The other big one is just to be able to get a Bell OTA applied when it comes out, it will probably be similar to the leak, but best to be safe.
This is more of a Bell/Intl issue as ATT folks tend to run just ATT firmware or flash just boot and system via CWM/fastboot and don't have the same issues as flashing a sbf file.
Both the stock 2.2.2 and leaked ap20 OTA bootloaders from Bell are safe to flash after IHOP, this is not the case with ATT bootloaders and may be the case for any included in a sbf file. Finding out the hard way is not an option.
Cheers!

no, you will still be able to recieve over the air updates, you will have to reflash stock recovery, reflash back to stock rom, then update your phone via over the air update, reflash custom recovery back and reroot your phone...excluding how long the update takes to download and assuming you know what you're doing it should not take more than 20 minutes.
word of caution, we still don't know too much about the update...so I would wait until developers confirm everything before doing an over the air update when it comes out...sometimes doing over the air, changes things and you won't be able to go back...for example it might take a while to get root again, or get a custom kernel, etc etc. always wait for developers here to give the ok to update and read before doing an Over the air update!
Good to know am not screwed.

previously we havn't had to lock the bootloader to get over the air updates, but you can never know about the future...i'm guessing you still won't have to...even if you do...it's not a hard process its just a one line code "fastboot oem lock" and you can unlock again just like you did before

Simple Fix, get a new Sim card (never used) and let the phone auto activate (power up and let phone auto dial to activate on it's own, takes about 30-60 seconds), once activated pull the OTA(make sure the batteery is well charged). It'll download without the replacement hassles or HTC mail-in flash.
I have already rooted using RagawMod. My question is if I update software to 1.22.651.3 will it mess up root access or should I unroot then update software and re-root?
Thanks in adfvance for any help
If you do the ota update Yes it'll mess up root. Why not flash a custom rom that's based on the new update?
NEVER unroot in order to take an OTA.
Also, get full S-OFF while you still can.
In order to upgrade now that you are rooted, you flash a custom ROM. Thats it. Don't take the OTA, don't unroot.
RE-root
The reason I asked is I just saw the have a new root for the new OTA 1.22.651.3. Was not sure if the new OTA fixed some of the bugs with the LTE?

What root are you referring to? All I'm aware of is HTC dev, and thats not what you want to use. Get full S-OFF while you can
Flashing a ROM that's based on the new OTA will give you all of the fixes of the OTA without screwing up your device.

What are the pro's to updating? I just got my EVO a couple days ago and its on 1.13.651.1 71ORD. I won't be getting any OTA's because I plan on rooting and getting full s-off. I still need to read the forums a little more before I do any of that. I've never flashed ROMs before so if that is the only way to update then I might hold off on that for now, unless there are some good reasons why I need to do it.

I am a new user here, but I am already rooted with 1.22.651.3. I completely regret OTA'ing simply because I find it confusing how to achieve S-Off while having this updated version. I've been exploring the developer section and I have really fallen in love with MeanROM, but I cannot get it as my phone does not have S-Off.

Still not sure why I would want the update after I root and get s-off. All I really want to do at the moment is root so I can delete all the sprint garbage and get rid of sense. I know doing the OTA is a no-no, but is there anything I should think about doing after I root? Can anyone recommend the best way to go about that? I'm basically a new, but I want to make sure I have the ability to mess with my phone down the road.

Do you mean "bumped," with TWRP recovery?
If so, you'll still get notified about the OTA. The OTA should fail to run, but on my last device some people had the KitKat update run even though they had a custom recovery, and it screwed up all sorts of things. So don't accept the OTA if you get it.
To make sure you don't get the OTA, see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/psa-stop-taking-ota-updates-update-t2909412
If by "unlocked" you mean something else, please explain.
As long as the phones system is totally original with no mods or deleted files you should get ota...depends on how it was unlocked.

Im sure if its unlocked it can still get ota by flashtool. If system is changed. But as far as root or bump. Certainly can. It can be bumped stumped etc. And flashtool back for ota. Depending how it was unlocked. Meaning if it was rooted to unlock then will have to flashtool back im almost sure. Again if your wanting to make sure it stays unlocked usually once unlocked it will stay. I guess it will depend how. And if oem unlocked then im sure re locking is not much of an option. However you should be fine from many of these worries. Hope not to confuse you. Im very tired. Lol. Trying to cover all bases. There are many ways to unlock many devices on many carriers so its really hard to say. But there are mostly generalized options one would believe.

Thanks for such a detailed answer,
Now when I get the bhone should i be unlocking Bootloader ?
Please suggest me an easy way to ROOT this device?
Which is the most customizied Rom available on this Sprint Thread, I am sure I should not be flashing any other Carrier Roms or International Version of ROM which may Brick the device.
My Friend is claiming that is factory unlocked,Is there a way to find if device is Factory unlocked ??
