I found the EC09 modem to be the best for me in terms of overall quality and signal strength. In addition, at one point, I was pulling two days of moderate usage out of a single charge with it. Plus, it *seems* to have the least problems of all the modems I tested and jt said a while back that even he recommends EC09 for cm7.
However, if you don't want that, ED04 is probably the second best.
Edit: Here's a list of all the radios with download links and instructions, in case you need it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12816670&postcount=39

I can tell you the EC09 really is all that it is hyped up to be. Zero problems with it and I was consistently getting 2 days per charge using it. I use my phone quite a lot but everyone has a different perspective on usage.
Some think that a few texts and 1 call a day is moderate while others see it as watching an entire movie + Facebook, twitter, news, weather, angry birds, and 10 calls + live wallpaper as moderate. This is a phone, not a desktop computer...keep that in mind.
Currently I am testing the new ED05 modem. I have not personally seen the increased battery drain but I did have a MMS problem today. Though it may not be the modems fault and it was quickly remedied.
Thanks guys, that sounds positive, I'll flash EC09 when I get home later and then calibrate the battery. I've been getting really poor performance with my current radio, so am looking forward to giving it a shot.
If you find wildly great performance, stability and battery life with ED, post back here, if you don't mind.
Thanks!

I've had windows phones for years now. and always end up grading my Roms due to more features, better battery usage, better radios, etc.
I just got my touch pro and have been reading a few threads about new roms. Roms always seem to fix 75% of stock rom problems and introduce 5-10 new bugs. But still worth the trade off.
Is it worth it really yet? I actually like my sprint rom. and it looks like most things can be changed/fixed with cabs......
I know it's a funny question to ask, that really has no right or wrong answer. But wanted some input from those that have upgraded.
Do you see:
Battery improvement?
signal improvement?
Graphics FPS improvement?
bug improvement or more problems than stock?
overall worth it with todays sprint roms?

-It depends what you're looking for but with the ROM I'm running I've greatly improved battery life. From what I understand there is a reg. edit that can be done to improve battery life with the stock rom (something about how often the phone polls the battery to check the level).
-I updated to another radio as well and I think I've had an overall improvement with the signal strength, but that's a little tougher to tell.
- Haven't noticed much of a difference with the FPS with any of the ROMs I've tried, but have seen a few of the stock bugs disappear ie the R button calling who ever is highlighted in the contacts menu. I have noticed a big improvement with the speed things load as well as the responsiveness of the screen/ TF3D
- I've always used ROMs to change up what programs the phone is stocked with. I personally don't use many of the stock programs that the phone comes loaded with from Sprint, so I use ROMs mostly to slim down the size of the OS. If that's something you're interested in load up a new ROM. There are quite a few good ones to choose from over on ppcgeeks
Do you mind telling us which ROM you are using? I am in the market for a new ROM and trying to see what people are using to better guide me.

Got a new Vibrant with Stock 2.2 KA6 and kernel 2.6.32.9
I had a fascinate (stock 2.1) before and I see lot of things differing in performance and battery life of the phone.
1. Battery doesn't last long. Lasts 12 hours maximum with wifi, email, gtalk running.
2. Battery lasts 24 hours on minimal email/gtalk/browsing using 2g mobile Network
3. Incall volume is too low, typed in the secret codes and increased it, but the call quality is poor. The sound has high bass and is not crisp and clear.
4. There is a lag while scrolling the apps and moving between different screens. Dont know why there is this rough scroll. Happens in all the apps through out the phone.
5. There is no flash and pics shot using night mode are of poor quality.
6. Some pics shot in day light also seem to be poor.
7. Browser hangs when the page has flash in it
Comparing this with Samsung Fascinate, Fascinate had better battery life and was ultra smooth and fast. Also the flash in the Camera made me a happy customer. Now since I moved out of US and compelled to use a GSM phone.
Now my priorities are to fix this phone:
1. To get better battery Life
2. To get better in call sound quality
3. Able to browse pages with flash in it.
4. To improve the performance of the phone, making it quick and responsive.
Can you tell me which rom/kernel would help me solve the issues.
I got very confused with so many kernels/roms and their versions. I'm not a tech type, so please help me.
My work requires me talking on phone with my clients and sending lot of emails and I'm currently not in US so cant change the phone easily.
Any help would be appreciated.

Most all the roms out there will be a major step up. Ask 5 different ppl and get 5 different answers. Read about the roms in the dev thread and choose one. If your not happy try another. I use Trigger but I am one out of those 5 ppl.
Anything is better than stock
Im with the guy above. Trigger. Most smooth, stable, fast, 2.2 rom out there. (Imo)
Sent from premium app
rom:trigger 2.9.4 w/kb5
kernel;overstock 1.4.3
theme:custom mash of all orange/tangerine
Try all of them out..From my experience, Bionix was definitely the fastest, then Bi Winning.

Will the rom alone solve the in call quality ? Is voodoo anyway
Related to the in call quality. I know that it's related to the sound.
Btw hows the battery life for trigger.
Im using the latest version of Bi-Winning flashed with the KB5 Modem, i've been unplugged for about 30 hours, with light usage, and im at 47% battery life. Call quality seems great. don't take many pictures with my phone. but the ones i have are Ok for a phone. Web Browsing is really fast for a phone, I was at Best buy playing with the Xoom, the Xoom was on Wifi, and my phone on 3G, and the Xoom was only loading pages 2-3 seconds faster, and the Vibrant was displaying flash alot better then the Xoom.
Anyway, you really can't go wrong with any rom. Bionix-v 1.3.1 is great, ran that for a month no problems, until i killed the GPS, and reflashed something Else. Trigger is also great. I'm running Bi-Winning because of the modified?? TouchWiz launcher, has the touchwiz app drawer, but with a customizable Dock on the home screen.
Edit: Voodoo Lag fix, if i understand it correctly, changes the file system on the System Partition from Samsungs RFS (Which isn't very good) to EXT4. Which makes the phone Much faster and snappier. As far as I've know/read, theres no downside to running Voodoo.
Thanks man. I updated to kb5 and the phone is ultra fast now. Lets see how battery performs.

But yeah, fourthing (or so) previous recommendations. Without custom ROMs, the Vibrant is essentially unusable. Not even exaggerating.

Add One... BlueTooth sound crashes sound system after using for 20 - 30 minutes.
I have not yet updated to gingerbread because its not stable, but this might force me to do it, I am still on eb01 with a few mods but battery dwindles and goes down 30 percent in one hour with me just checking face book and words with friends occasionally, also I am undervolted. any help on this?
Any one know what the most battery efficient rom is and is gingerbread better than this?
You may want to take a look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278838. It is reported to have a really good battery life, although there is some modem issues (but those can easily be solved). As far as i know, there has been no report of random reboots, so looks like youre in the clear of that. Also it looks to be pretty stable. Just check it out. Best of luck mate
Okay so I've been messing around with roms lately and I'm somewhat a flashaholic lol
But now I'm really looking for something flexible but GOOD on battery life.
What Combo is best for battery life?
such as Modem & Kernal (+ Rom)
I'm currently on this (at the moment):
Rom: MIUI V4 (360 PRODUCTIONS)
Kernel: 3.1.10-subZero-1.6 End_of_Line)) #167
Baseband Version: T959UVKA7
My battery life isn't really too special, I have wifi on, 3G preferred, auto brightness, sound on high. . .
85% - Discharging 2h 5m 30s on Battery
Any ideas on bettery battery life or is this pretty much good/normal?
also my battery isn't a samsung battery its an MYBAT 3.7V LI-ION Battery VLN-08 1200mAH . not too sure if that plays a big role in this.
sidenote: TWS IS ONLY 4%.

I'm going to make an assumption here, and perhaps it is an incorrect one.
I've installed countless ROM's on my Vibrant, and I've had mine a VERY long time (got mine the week before the official launch...long story).
I've found no roms that match the overall battery life of Samsung 2.2 froyo based roms. It is for this reason that, though I've tinkered with practically every single gingerbread, ics, and jb rom ever released, I always go back to my personal favorite as a daily driver. Project V w/Bali 1.8.8 kernel and KB5 baseband.
My assumption is that the "black box" effect is at play. Getting the last baseband available to us (KB5) to happily play with later builds of android has always been an exercise in frustration. Sure it has been made to "work" with later builds, but given the closed nature of it it's clear it just doesn't work as seamlessly well with anything else.
My battery life with 2.2 based roms has always been way better than later android builds, often lasting twice or more as long.
Thanks for the link I'll take a look at it.
@masterotaku : Everyone says Froyo has the worst battery life ever :\ but I also believe what works for my phone may not work for yours, and I do know Froyo is a very stable rom it was the rom i ended up going back to and sticking with on my MyTouch .

Okay. So I am currently running shostock3 on my sgs2 with siyah kernal. I read the article from zedomax on galaxys2root.com that it has very good battery life and very stable but when i am running it, I have terrible battery life and i am currently underclocked or whatever the word is. My advice, run SHOstock3 as it was released. It runs great as shoman94 dev'd it.

Most people get really good battery life on SHOstock3. Just search the SHOstock3 thread for the word battery to see what I mean. If you're not getting good battery life, you need to find out what in your configuration is causing the problem, and fix it. There is a thread in the general section started by Entropy512 that you should study to help you identify where the problem is.
I was on GB ShoStock for a long time thinking ICS and JB would never leave me satisfied on battery life.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353513
Finally came to my senses and tried out ShoStock 3 and have never looked back. To make it short the best Rom Ive ever flashed for any device I have had in the present and past.
You definitely have a rogue app killing your battery, find out which one it is and uninstall.

Sorry you have battery life problems.
I have been running Shostock3 since it came out (it's version 3.02 today!), but I also been on and off at least five (wow can it be that many?) JB roms on my SGH-i777 (won't even mention the # GB roms here!). After trying many, I must agree with the other posters who state that this rom delivers very good battery life when compared to stock and when compared with other custom roms.
Lately, it has delivered the best battery life I have ever had on this phone using any rom (although SlimBean JB provided very very good battery life for me recently as well! Also UnNamed was great for battery life in the old GB days )
I followed the recommendations made by creepyncrawly to read Entropy's (& others) battery notes/faqs. They provide some really good background, some with that typical "XDA flavor" (read technical!. That material, plus some more plain old simple user adjustments to how and what I use on the phone have improved my phone's battery time; and it might help you as well.
It really boils down to the fact that each phone user loads different apps and our usage patterns vary.
Assume that you've flashed it and let it settle for a few days and several recharge cycles. After doing this you can see what YOUR "norms" are. They may be good or bad, but that's the baseline for you with this rom and with the apps and usage pattern you have.
(You can tweak voltage and speed (well, not speed on SS3!), but my experience has been that the more noticeable changes will be by adjusting your pattern of use, or doing the "hunt for the app" (or apps) that are burning down your run times when not in use.
Not many here seem to like or do this, but I would also try one of those "help-you-with-battery-use" apps --like juice defender (Ok, I get that many here seem to think it a waste, but it really did help me --a little-- when I used it); or get DS Battery saver (a bit more aggressive and noticeable, but you also notice the lag while you wait for things to turn on when you want them).
Actually, these may not be precision solutions, and don't focus on your specific phone app use, but they do work in a macro way to slow battery use and simply working with them for a few days or weeks will provide you with a better a sense of what the heck is going on under the plastic; they will cause you to look at what you have/run and when.
Oh, this includes using Better Battery Stats, which is fine for reporting out exactly which the apps behave --or don't-- and by how much and when. I'm not slow (well, that slow but it frankly, it took me quite a while to figure out what I was reading in the BBS readouts and what they meant! (Now, after a year+ or so of using it, I don't even have it loaded, since I've done the fiddling I need --and BBS, plus those other battery apps, helped me to figure out what apps worked well, what apps I was willing to sacrifice battery on and what apps were useless and should be tossed.)
Finally, some roms just don't work for people! So it's not worth the frustration chasing something you may not be able to achieve with this or another rom. (You probably read how individuals have problems that you don't -yet, you run the same rom and the same phone! That is our world. So, too, you will read about some who make amazing claims on how long they continue on one charge. Some are pretty amazing, and some may even be real
My final five cents would be:
#1 run the rom a couple of days, get a baseline. Then switch from Jeboo kernel to AJK's latest for TW (I think it is 1.25ss, but I really also had great results from 1.48s) and run it a few more days. They were pretty much even for me, but others find one or the other kernel makes a real difference!). Compare after doing the same activities through a charge or two.
#2 If your battery life remains "poor," note what poor really is (ex. how much screen time? and how much total run time prior to getting to zero or 10-15%? ...something like that).
#3. Then get BBS and one of the "automatic" battery-saver programs and work with it for about 4-5 days and that many recharge cycles. See what your norms are but do it for the same type of usage!!! If better while using the battery fixers, then you can work at picking off the app or apps that are sucking your battery more than you want. Not as tedious as it sounds. Of course, staying with a rom for three weeks might be a challenge , but this is a nice rom to work with.
#4. I don't think you will need to under-volt to get good BL. I wonder if your phone is stable in doing that? Or, does it induce additional lag? That might be a high price to pay for more run time. (You could compare the UV results with your "norm" as well!)
#5. Finally, we are on Galaxy S2 Sgh-i777 -and can change batteries all day long for not so much per battery! It is not elegant, but it works. (Done it myself several times -even with good battery life).
Good Luck!
Best ROM, Good battery life... been with Shoman's ROM since shostock2 never have a problem with the battery life...
