The samfirware is very strange, different versions to update (or downgrade, I have the 2.3.4 ).... So I downloaded and installed the "new" (the original 2:33 Samsung, "# # S5830XWKPF) firmware must be different because through" ODIN 4.38 "missing files (OPS, BOOT, PDA PHONE, CSC, SAI ONE PACKAGE ....) or not needed?
Does anyone know if the firmware with these changes will solve the accursed "SOD"? and even now why change?

Hi I purchase my phone to a friend that had already flashed it with odin, now I want to use KIES to upgrade my roms it is easier for me.
I heard that what is important is the csc file to change but I am in switzerland and I don't know what csc file too add to do the trick so that Kies will upgrade my phone.
Could you please help me ?
thanks
You need to install the original rom that came with phone via ODin first only then will kies recognise it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928&highlight=official+kernel
you can try there to check the original for your carrier flash it with odin and then kies should recognise your device as upgradable.
Although I would suggest you stick with Odin as you can get to flash latest rom on Odin first then wait for kies
Hi friends,previously I had an official rom and it was supported by kies,after a period I flashed my phone to ICS 4.0.3 xxlpb..(I know this is un official and not recognized by kies),,when I reflashed again to stock firmware (JPKF3) using this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 again the kies is not recognize my phone and it says (your device can not support software upgrading) my current firmware is I9100JPKF3/I9100OJPKF2/I9100XXKF1/I9100JPKF3 (KOR)...and I'm living in kurdistan (north of IRAQ),can some one suggest me a firmware which will be supported by kies so as to be able to upgrate my phone officially by kies to ICS in the future...I will be very gratefull...
note: when i flashed via odin I loaded files as follows:
PDA:CODE_I9100JPKF3_CL303619_REV02_user_low_ship.tar
CSC:GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OJPKF2.tar
PHONE:MODEM_I9100XXKF1_REV_02_CL1017274.tar

If you have made a nandroid backup of your previous Gingerbread system, flash a kernel containing CWM recovery and restore the nandroid backup.
If you have not made a nandroid backup of your previous Gingerbread system, then you have to identify, download and flash the latest stock ROM released by Sasmung for your phone in your region.
You can use Check Fus Downloader (from here => http://fus.nanzen.se/).
After flashing the correct firmware to your phone, KIES should recognize it again.
Please backup everything important before flashing.
Good luck !
Is updating firmware the Samsung equivalent to flashing a new version of the stock ROM? (If not, what does a firmware update mean?)
Many thanks in advance.
Matt.
Firmware is essentially the software that allows the phone to run. Flashing a new ROM replaces some or all of the firmware.
Updating the software via OTA modifies the firmware, but doesn't replace it. It only updates the bits it needs to.

An update consists of modifications and improvements/tweaks or new components added to an excisting rom , the latest XXBLFB update was about 80 Mb.

So, to be clear, if I was running a CM9 nightly (for example) and wanted to get back to the stock rom, I couldn't just flash the latest firmware as that is merely an update to the existing "Samsung ROM" - I'd have to find the whole ROM itself?
(Thanks again - Matt)

You have to flash the whole rom with Odin. Firmware is here www.sammobile.com/firmware.

Thanks. So, the ...XXBLF file that I extracted from the temp folder which is near enough 800mb (795,370 KB file name "XXBLFBOXABLFBXXLFBXXBLFB" folder "Binary-->GT-I9300-->BTU-->XX") I guess this isn't it?

Extract the downloaded file ONCE with 7-zip or winzip to a md5 file.
Here is a short tutorial:
If you want to use Odin first download a stock firmware from www.sammobile/firmware, pick the rom of your country and download it.
Extract it once from .rar to md5 file.
Readup a bit, it isn`t hard but there are a few things you must know:
1. Enable usb debugging on your phone
2. Go into downloadmode (volume down + power + menu all at the same time)
3. See if IDCOM light up yellow and in the left bottom window it says added when you connect your phone to the pc.
4. Unzip the downloaded file ONCE into a .tar or md5 file if you haven`t
5. Place that file in the PDA section.
6. Do not tick anything, only f.reset.time and autoreboot should be ticked.
7. Press Start
8. Rebooting automaticly.
Close Kies, also everthing Kies related in task manager before flashing!
Hello,
had stock XEO ROM. Decided to switch to BTU. Took latest release (XXEMB1) from Sammobile and flashed it via Odin. Now even *#1234# shows its XXEMB1, my CSC is actually unknown and Kies does not support it (shows its KOR). How do i fix that and make my CSC be BTU? Thank You.
Gytis
If you flashed via Odin then it's normal and dont expect kies support.If you back to stock firmware and wait via OTA or Kies then you can see your csc and kies support.

Thats strange. So the only way is to untar FW, extract cashe.img, find BTU in CSC directory, copy its content into main CSC directory to overwrite KOR content. Make img file again, tar it and try to flash?
first of all CSC unknown is not a big issue, you can use the phone normally.
second, for most people (incl. me) reflashing the rom will give you back the CSC (if nothing was changed with the newer firmwares).
to change the CSC, try CSC changer from market or search for a flashable zip here on xda
So, to sum up: extracting CSC and pasting BTU content over default content in CSC dir did not help - flashed only modified CSC.tar.md5 and still, Kies shows KOR and not supported. Decided to flash back to initial stock SEB FW. Did that and still no success - my CSC is KOR in Kies. Seems like once you flashed via Odin, you are forever lost...
Hi,
i installed the latest jellybean official firmware.
i don't have EFS backup, and i got the "unknown" problem under the csc.
i can't change it by any way.
someone have a link to a jellybean csc for galaxy i9100?
* I will flash a new firmware that will be compatible with it.
~~~~~~~~~~ i found this thread (but no updated csc for i9100 though...) ~~~~~~
1. flash the Stock ROM one version older than the Stock ROM you want to install
2. check if csc is unkown (dialer -> *#1234#)
3. take some old csc file online* (one fitting best to your rom date)
4. go to download-mode (vol-down+home+power-on)
5. flash only the csc file via odin
6. reboot and check if csc changed (dialer -> *#1234#)
7. go to download-mode and flash the stock rom you wanted in the first place
8. reboot and check if csc has changed
9. enjoy your genuine Samsung Galaxy S III
